Video: Dan Radcliffe and J.K. Rowling extended clip to be featured on the “Wizard’s Collection”
On the special features of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 Blu-ray/DVD, an interview between Daniel Radcliffe and J.K. Rowling was featured. However, more from the interview will be showcased on the soon-to-be-released Wizard’s Collection Blu-ray/DVD package, including the segment shown in this video clip.
During the video clip, Dan shares a moment of what the significance of Harry’s leadership would be from a discussion the two had during filming for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Daniel Radcliffe: In the fifth film, you came to the set, and we had probably had the biggest talk about the character, even though it wasn’t major thing, but I was asking you questions about the relevance of Dumbledore’s Army and how important that is in terms of what will happen later. I remember what you said to me, that it’s very important because at some point Harry will have to lead large numbers of people.
J.K. Rowling: Yeah, the only real resistance, the only organized real resistance. I always knew the final battle would happen at Hogwarts. So that’s where all this was working towards. Along the way I had to set it up so Harry could become a leader of some form of resistance movement, because it was far too implausible. I remember that talk – I remember that talk vividly.
Daniel Radcliffe: And on the wall, in my room, I had just done a big project where I had taken pictures of lots of authors off the internet and written little biographies about them underneath and written their names. I can definitely remember you picking out one.
Rowling: It was George Eliot.
Daniel Radcliffe: Let’s talk about the relevance of George Eliot.
Rowling: When I was looking for maiden name for Lily, I chose Evans on the basis that it was George Eliot’s real name.
Daniel Radcliffe: See, that’s wonderful. I don’t think anybody knows that.
Rowling: No, it was just one of those – it was quite random things, but sometimes, for strange reasons, you use a name that always thereafter means more to you than it does to anyone else. Yeah, I do remember that.
