J.K. Rowling inspires Manchester women
The Harry Potter series has been much more than just seven books for so many of us, and has affected the way we live our lives in ways very few things have, as has the woman behind them. In a recent poll of Manchester women, J.K. Rowling tied for first place as the most inspiring British female. As reported by Mancunian Matters, Rowling tied with Olympic champion Jessica Ennis at 56% of the Manchester vote.
The poll, which was part of Oxfam’s Get Together fundraiser, listed Dame Helen Mirren at number three in the region. The campaign is part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, taking place on March 8.
Harriett Roberts, Oxfam community fundraising manager for Oxfam in Manchester, described Oxfam Get Together:
“It is about celebrating and supporting women around the world who are working hard with passion and dedication to get themselves out of poverty.”
