Matt Lewis & other “Potter” stars work overtime for charity
We’ve posted before about the Matt Lewis’s support of philanthropic causes, including the Walk of Smiles earlier this year, but this fall the Harry Potter star is outdoing himself with his contributions to charity.
Lewis revealed through his Twitter page that he is participating in not one, but two events in the coming weeks. The first is a cocktail competition that benefits Yorkshire Cancer Research, for which Matt will serve as a judge. Lewis tweeted about the event earlier this week:
Gonna be judging a cocktail competiton at The Hub in Leeds on Wednesday. It’s not exactly the perfect prep for a half marathon but…

…it is for charity. You can order tickets from @hubleeds and all proceeds go to @yorkshirecancer research.

The half-marathon Matt mentions is the Bupa Great North Run, in which he will be running on September 15 to benefit the Leeds Rugby Foundation. Matt is Vice President of the foundation, whose mission is to use the power of sport to make a positive impact on communities and individuals.
And Matt’s not the only Potter star using his fame for good this season! This week Rupert Grint took part in a Truck Pulling Challenge in Leicestershire to benefit the son of Army drummer whose father was killed in May, and James Phelps participated in a celebrity cricket match to benefit Help for Heroes, The Afghan Trust, and the Edinburgh Students’ Charities Appeal.
We love to see our favorite Harry Potter stars using their fame to create positive change in the world, and we have a feeling that J.K. Rowling – who recently donated the proceeds of her Cuckoo’s Calling lawsuit to charity – would be very proud!
