New Emma Watson film “Noah” plagued by dispute between director and studio
We previously reported that Emma Watson was starring in Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming film, Noah. The film stars Russell Crowe as the Biblical figure and Emma as Ila, Noah’s adopted daughter. But now it appears that Aronofsky (who both writes and directs the film) is at odds with Paramount over the film’s final cut.
The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the film has had multiple test screenings, all of which have shown worrisome results. The article states,
In recent weeks, the studio has held test screenings for key groups that might take a strong interest in the subject matter: in New York (for a largely Jewish audience), in Arizona (Christians) and in Orange County, Calif. (general public). All are said to have generated troubling reactions. But sources say Aronofsky has been resistant to Paramount’s suggested changes. ‘Darren is not made for studio films,’ says a talent rep with ties to the project. ‘He’s very dismissive. He doesn’t care about [Paramount’s] opinion.’
However, the article does go on to state that Aronofsky screened footage from the film at the church-based Echo conference in Texas this July and that “tweets from audience members suggested that the sneak peek was well received.”
Hopefully, Aronofsky and Paramount can work out their dispute and release a good film. Noah is set for release on March 28.
