Introducing Chute 212, a new “Harry Potter” conference!
Wizarding villages are difficult to locate: There’s Hogsmeade, accessible via secret passage from Hogwarts (if you can find one) or from the Hogwarts Express (if you can board it); there’s Godric’s Hollow, birthplace of the wizard Harry Potter, located somewhere in the West Country of England. But for those wizards (and Muggles) elsewhere, hoping for a place to brew their potions, toss some gobstones, or practice their Quidditch, we can proudly announce that an entirely new town will reveal itself, to everyone, this July.
Chute 212 is an upcoming Harry Potter conference taking place at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Northern California from July 2-6, 2014. This conference will be set inside the center’s very own wizarding village, complete with storefronts, alleyways, and gardens aplenty. During Chute 212 the village will be packed with artisans, musicians, magicians, performers of all types, special guests, teachers, close friends, and YOU!
From the press release:
“Chute 212 is a new and innovative literary and create-play conference coming to the Santa Clara Convention Center. A celebration of the wizarding world in all its incantations, Chute 212 is the first of its kind to blend the environmental, theatrical world of a fair, with the literary, musical community of a convention. Combining traditional panels and workshops with fan created programming and cosplay, attendees can invoke their favorite wizard or witch, enjoy live music and magic acts, shop for unique and handmade products, create a potion or join in a game of Quidditch.”
An exciting facet of Chute 212 will be its emphasis on “Create-play,” an opportunity for all attendees to create and then embody their own wizarding character, from name to backstory and even clothing, resulting in that character’s induction as a town citizen for all festivities. The huge emphasis on theater and hands-on creativity distinguishes Chute 212 from other conventions one may find.
DISCOUNT TICKETS for registration are available between now and March 15 as part of the convention’s “Early Broom Special.” MuggleNet will be reporting with additional detail on several other aspects of this particular conference in the coming weeks. But in the meantime, all information can be explored by you on their web site and Facebook page. This July 4 weekend, let us celebrate our togetherness as magic-folk beneath the fireworks of local theme park California’s Great America and in a town built just for us.
