In-Depth Review of Japan’s New Version of Wizarding World of Harry Potter Hogsmeade

Japan is a country known for its attention to detail, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios Japan is no exception.

Upon first entering Hogsmeade, you are greeted with the Hogwarts Express and its conductor, as well as a crowd of fans of all ages excited to take a peek into Honeydukes or perhaps purchase their very own wand at Ollivanders. If that is not your fancy, try catching the tantalizing aromas wafting from the Three Broomsticks, including that of their newest dessert: treacle tart!

This dessert was introduced on March 18, 2015, and is made with molasses and lemon and topped with mint, raspberries, and clotted cream. Of course, there is no better companion to this dessert than a cold or frozen Butterbeer, the perfect treat for hot summer days, with a taste that is truly magical!

Want to relax before journeying into Hogwarts Castle? Why not take a break near the Great Lake, a beautiful addition unique to Universal Studios Japan? The lake is surrounded by pine trees and overlooked by Hogwarts Castle. The castle’s reflection on the lake’s still surface is among the most popular photo ops for tourists, and with good reason. It is absolutely stunning!

Hogwarts Castle itself stands tall among the rest of Hogsmeade and can make anyone feel as if they are truly entering the world of magic. With a keen eye for detail, the castle in Universal Studios Japan was built such that the sun rises from behind, illuminating the whole park and creating a breathtaking scene. It also houses the most popular attraction, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.

This ride takes you through some of the most iconic scenes and locations from the series while showcasing tons of characters and creatures. Prior to this most recent visit, I had experienced the journey for myself four times, and every time was just as magical as the last. I would never have imagined as a child that one day I would get so close to experiencing the real world of Harry Potter. But what if I told you that this journey could become even realer?

Well, that is exactly what happened on May 21, 2015, when Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey was opened to the public in 4K3D. This new feature has given the attraction more life, and the lines were testament to that fact. Fans in green, yellow, blue, and scarlet eagerly queued up for a chance to experience the journey in 3D for as long as 270 minutes, and I followed suit. What would await me behind the oak front doors of the castle?

“The 3D adds much more immersion and offers a great rush! It was a lot more thrilling,” says a tourist from Singapore upon exiting the attraction. From the crowds were screams of “So cool!” and “I actually reached out my hand!” from Japanese tourists.

Where do I stand among all of this? Let’s just say those other fans were not the only ones with outstretched hands vying for the Golden Snitch. The addition of 4K3D to what was already one of the greatest attractions of all of Universal Studios Japan was a move that will be remembered by fans of Harry Potter, new and old. It has given us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in a world we hold near and dear to our hearts in a way previously unimagined.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios Japan, I urge you to do so. This newest update to an already magical ride is just another reason to yell “Accio Firebolt” and fly on over. What magic awaits you is up to you to decide!

日本といえば群を抜いて細部にまでこだわる丁寧さが有名ですが、この高い技術力はウ ィーザーディングワールド・オブ・ハリーポッターでも存分に発揮されています。

ホグズミード村に一歩踏み込むと、視界は全てハリーポッターの世界で埋め尽くされま す。右にはホグワーツ特急と車掌さん、そして辺りにはウキウキしながらハニーデュー クスで買いものをしたり、初めての杖をオリバンダーの店で購入する人達の姿で一杯で す。 それだけでなく、三本の箒からは心が弾むような香りが漂ってきます。もちろん 、新商品の糖蜜タルトの甘い香りもふわふわと漂い、人々を中へと誘っていました。

このデザートは2015年3月18日に販売が開始されました。ベースは糖蜜とレモンで作ら れ、トッピングにミント、ラズベリーとクロッテッドクリームが使用されています。そしてこのデザートにとても合うのがバタービールです。フローズンや冷たいバタービ ールは暑い夏に飲むには最適で、味も形容しがたい、魔法をかけたような不思議なもの でした。

ホグワーツの中を冒険する前に、黒い湖を見ながらひと休憩するのも楽しみ方の一つで す。 因みにこの黒い湖はユニバーサルスタジオジャパンだけにあるもので、松の木に 囲まれた憩いの場となっています。水面にはホグワーツ城が壮大に写し出され、いつも 人気の高い撮影スポットになっています。

ホグワーツ城はというと、ホグズミード村の建物を遥かに凌ぐ高さでパークの一番奥に 聳え立っています。入り口に近づく誰もが、魔法の世界に入り込むような気分を味わう ことができます。 ホグワーツ城建設に際して製作チームが細部までこだわった一つの 点が、日の登る向きです。 日が登った時にホグワーツ城の後ろから太陽が登り、ホグ ズミード村を光で包む光景にする様に設計を進めたそうです。 この美しい風景には、 誰もが感動すること間違いないです。 また、ホグワーツ城は皆さんがご存知の通り、 ハリーポッター・アンド・ザ・フォービドゥン・ジャーニーのアトラクションが体験で きる場所になっています。

先に挙げたアトラクションでは、物語の中に登場する有名なシーンや場所を飛び回るこ とができ、また皆さんが愛して止まないハリー達や様々な動物、生き物達が沢山登場し ます。

この記事を執筆する前、僕は既に4回もこのアトラクションに乗った事があるにも関わ らず、毎度違う発見があり、一回一回を新しい体験として楽しむ事ができました。 子 供の頃の僕には、こんなにハリーポッターの世界に近づく体験ができるなんて夢にも思 っていませんでした。 更に、この度の4K3D化で僕達は今まで以上に魔法の世界を現実 で体感できるようになったのです。

2015年5月21日、ハリーポッター・アンド・ザ・フォービドゥン・ジャーニーは4K3Dに 進化を遂げました。このアップグレードはライドに更なる現実味を与え、その証拠にア トラクションの人気は爆破しました。 僕が訪れた当日は、既に緑、黄色、青そして赤 を身に纏った人達が270分以上も待っていましたが、僕も皆さんと同じようにドキドキ しながらホグワーツの門を潜ることにしました。 城のドアを潜り抜けた先に何がある のか早く知りたい！その一心で僕は待っている間ずっと興奮していました。

ホグワーツを後にしながら、あるシンガポール人のファンは「3Dになったおかげでも っと世界に入り込めた！凄いスリリングな体験ができたよ。」と感想を述べてくれまし た。 日本人のファンの人達からは、「かっこいい！」「掴めるかと思って本当に手を 出しちゃった！」という声が聞こえてきました。

アトラクションに対する僕の感想は、というと、スニッチに向かって手を伸ばしたのは 僕も同じだったということです。 USJの一大アトラクションであるハリーポッター・ア ンド・ザ・フォービドゥン・ジャーニーの4K3D化は 、多くのファンの記憶に残るだろ うと僕は思います。 なぜならこのアトラクションは、僕達が愛するハリーポッターの 世界に、想像もしなかった程リアルに飛び込める機会を僕達に与えてくれたからです。
