MuggleNet Throwback: Emma Watson goes collegiate
After wrapping up filming on the final Deathly Hallows film in 2009, there was still one thing left on Emma Watson’s to do list: go to college! And this week’s MuggleNet Throwback focuses on just that when Watson announced she would be attending Brown University, just five years ago this week.
As her Harry Potter days came to an end, Watson made it clear that her education had always been a priority for her – she would definitely be leaving show business behind for a time:
I’ve been working solidly since I was like 10… so I’m going to take a bit of break.
Rumors swirled for several weeks as to where Watson would attend school, and it was finally revealed that she would study literature at Brown University in the United States after achieving an impressive set of straight As on her A-level exams! But her departure from acting was by no means a permanent decision. Watson completed two years of study at Brown before taking a short break – just for “a semester or two” to work on acting once more – and then returning to complete her study and graduate just this past spring of 2014.
Watson has certainly done her Hermione proud! And she did it with the best of attitudes, praising her peers at school for their friendliness and even politely laughing off rumors of a classmate exclaiming, “Ten points to Gryffindor!” upon hearing Watson deliver a correct answer in lecture:
No. Actually, I’m really glad that he asked. That has never happened to me. Maybe someone said it under their breath, but I’ve never, ever had anyone say that when I’ve been in a class.
Whether it really happened or not, we think Watson deserves ten points and more!
