Emma Watson tops celebrity feminist of the year poll!
It’s been a good year for Emma Watson (Hermione Granger). Earlier this year, she delivered a powerful speech at the United Nations Headquarters, launched an equality campaign, HeForShe, and was announced as the new UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Now, an online poll has named Emma the feminist celebrity of the year.
Emma tops the list and is joined by other female celebrities, including Beyoncé (4), Amy Poehler (6), Tina Fey (7), and Meryl Streep (8).
The survey was run by Ms. Foundation for Women, together with Cosmopolitan. The president of Ms. Foundation for Women, Teresa Younger said,
We celebrate all feminists every day, but today we’re giving a hat tip to celebrities who are helping to promote women’s equality. Every celebrity on the list has either embraced the term ‘feminist,’ spoken out for women’s equal rights or battled against sexist oppression.
She further stated,
Celebrities who embrace feminism or speak out for women’s equality are helping to spread the word and build support for women’s rights. With this survey, we’re expanding the conversation about women’s empowerment to even more people.
Congratulations, Emma – very well deserved after such a wonderful year.
