Tom Felton’s BBC Three documentary given air date
Over the past few months, actor Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) has been busy with his directorial debut, a BBC Three documentary about superfans. Originally titled Tom Felton: Meet the Fanatics when it was announced by BBC, the documentary has been renamed to Tom Felton Meets the Superfans.
Thanks to an Instagram post from Tom, we now know that the documentary has also secured its air date: Monday, March 23, at 9:00 p.m. GMT. In the post’s caption, Tom told fans to “be there or be rectangular.”
For the one-off, hour-long documentary, Tom traveled to fan conventions and spoke with other celebrities (including some of his Harry Potter co-stars) to answer the question of at what point a fan becomes a fanatic. BBC writes,
In the programme, Tom spends an evening with 20 year-old Brian from New York, who dedicates most nights to tracking down his favourite stage and screen stars for a selfie. Meets 26[-]year-old Steve, from Pittsburgh, the self-proclaimed ‘world’s biggest Harry Potter fan’ who has turned a basement into his very own Hogwarts and talks candidly with celebrity friends including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and JK Rowling.
In an interview with JustJared.com last month, Tom said of the documentary,
It’s just kind of a chance for me to have a more in[-]depth look at the world of super fans, and these people [who] have followed franchises – kind of at the root of why ‘Harry Potter’ was so successful. It had such an active fan base. It’s allowed people to be passionate about stuff that maybe they couldn’t be so open with in previous years. It’s kind of a look into that; it’s a road trip journey with me narrating.
Tom Felton Meets the Superfans will air Monday, March 23, at 9:00 p.m. GMT on BBC Three. For more on the program, visit the BBC Media Centre here.
