2015-16 Quidditch Season Venues Announced
The US Quidditch Cup – previously known as US Qudditch World Cup – will return to the South Region on April 16-17 in partnership with the Columbia Regional Sports Council. It will be the first national event hosted at the new fields for Saluda Shoals Park. The bidding process that began in December 2014 was narrowed to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Columbia, South Carolina, in May. The announcement of all venues for the 2015-2016 season came from US Quidditch on August 10.
The park itself is an opening to exceptional educational, recreational, and cultural opportunities. Located along the banks of the beautiful Saluda River, the facility includes six multi-use fields with exceptional visibility and lighting.
Hosting nationals in Columbia will allow us to put on a championship event that highlights the high level of competition that our top teams have to offer. The South Carolina Sports Alliance has demonstrated a deep commitment to [Q]uidditch, which is reflected in Columbia’s bid.
Sarah Woolsey, USQ’s Events Director, said,
The Cup will be contested by 60 teams in a competitive pool play structure. Last year, the Swiss gameplay format was put into play for the first time. The Swiss format places an emphasis on strong play during the tournament itself, while the pool play format focuses on how well each team performed during the whole season. We could not be more excited to open our new park with such an incredible event. Our staff & our community look forward to welcoming US Quidditch in April of 2016!
