Role Call: Season of Entertainment
In this week’s Role Call, the season of entertainment begins! We have War Doctor news, our first look at Ralph Fiennes in both Spectre and the under-wraps Hail, Caesar!, the first trailer for Dad’s Army and learn a little more about Madam Maxime than we wanted to. Take a look at what your favorite cast members are up to these days!
Sir John Hurt, who we are happy to say has been given an all-clear from his cancer diagnosis, will next appear in the Sky Atlantic series, The Last Panthers. Stills from the series and a trailer were recently released ahead of the November 12 launch of the six-part series, which you can see below:

CultBox also tweeted that Hurt would be rejoining the Dr. Who universe once more in a collection of audio stories, where he will reprise his role as the War Doctor. The series will be sold in four boxed sets, which will contain three linked stories of the War Doctor’s adventures. The first of the boxed sets, Only the Monstrous, is slated for release this December.

The producer of the series from Big Finish, Jason Haigh-Ellery had this to say about Hurt’s involvement:
John wove a fantastic character together from a great script by Steven Moffat. Now we have the chance to get to know that character more and hear John stretch in the role. We’re all in for a hell of a ride as the War Doctor engages in battle. But who are the greater threat – the Daleks or the Time Lords?
We told you previously about The Journey, starring Timothy Spall and Sir John Hurt, which recently began filming in Belfast, Ireland. We now have our first look at Spall as Ian Paisley! Take a look at the photo below from Entertainment Weekly.
Fans of the Star Wars franchise can look forward to a Los Angeles, California red carpet premiere of The Force Awakens on December 14, just four days ahead of the worldwide release of the film. Domhnall Gleeson stars in the film alongside legends like Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, which is slated to release on December 17 in the UK and December 18 in the US.
The actor, perhaps best known to the Harry Potter set as Bill Weasley, was also recently announced as joining the cast of a romantic comedy opposite Christina Applegate. Crash Pad tells the tale of “a man who thinks he’s struck the jackpot of true love with an older woman (Applegate). Until, that is he learns that she’s just using him to get romantic revenge on her neglectful husband (Church). Our hero threatens to blackmail his paramour by telling her hubby all about their affair, only for the man to decide he’s going to get back at his wife by moving in with Gleeson and returning to his bachelor ways”.
The trailer for comedy Hail, Caesar! has been released, starring Ralph Fiennes and George Clooney. Take a look at the movie set within a movie:
You’ve been sleeping under one of Hagrid’s rock cakes if you haven’t seen the media blitz for the latest installment in the James Bond franchise, Spectre. As we previously reported, Ralph Fiennes is back as the new “M” but here’s our first look at him in his new role. A clip was released of Fiennes opposite Andrew Scott from Sherlock. Take a gander before the film hits US theaters this Friday!
Fans of David Tennant can look forward to a third season of the ITV hit, Broadchurch, which was announced back in February. His co-star Olivia Coleman revealed that filming on the third series would begin during the summer of 2016, which we suspect is due to Tennant’s current commitment to the Netflix series, Jessica Jones.
A poster and trailer for Dad’s Army was released, starring Toby Jones, Bill Nighy and Sir Michael Gambon. Feast your eyes on the comedy below, with the new tagline “The British Empire Strikes Back”:
Vicious and Harry Potter actress Frances de la Tour was featured last month in the popular television series Who Do You Think You Are? on BBC One. While US fans can’t access the video yet, UK fans who may have missed it can view the episode here, where it is revealed that her family have dabbled in gambling, secret affairs and a divorce long before they were commonplace. Hopefully, the series will soon be available for US viewers.
That’s it for this week’s role call – let us know what you think about Domhnall’s new romantic comedy role, Ralph in Spectre, or the new trailer for Dad’s Army!
