UPDATED: J.K. Rowling and Emma Watson Nominated for Shorty Awards
Earlier today, The Hollywood Reporter released the nominees for the eighth annual Shorty Awards. For those of you who don’t know, the Shorty Awards highlight the best content across social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Periscope, Tumblr, Twitter, Vine, and YouTube. The range of categories is substantial, with sometimes dozens of awards in one category alone.
Among this year’s nominees is J.K. Rowling, who has been nominated alongside many other well-known authors for her presence on Twitter. From shutting down haters to giving her opinions to fans, Rowling has made quite the name for herself on social media, so we are extremely excited to see her nominated in this category!
For her work in the #HeForShe campaign, Emma Watson earns a nomination in the Activism category. Emma has taken tons of heat over the years for standing up for what she believes in, but her passion has never wavered. In 2015 alone, she held a live International Women’s Day talk on Facebook and interviewed Malala Yousafzai about feminism, both of which garnered millions of views and inspired Emma to continue speaking out for equal rights.
If you want to vote for your favorite nominees across dozens of categories, visit the Shorty Awards website. There, you can view each nominee, read about their work, and visit their social media pages.
Don’t forget to catch the Shorty Awards this April in New York City, where it will be livestreamed internationally!
UPDATE (April 11):
Congratulations are in order for Ms. Rowling, who beat out fellow authors Andy Weir (The Martian), Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love), Saeed Jones (Prelude to Bruise), and Sloane Crosley (How Did You Get This Number) to take home the Shorty Award in the Author category.
