Hagrid’s Fantastic Beast of the Month: Pukwudgie
‘Ello!! Welcome to Hagrid’s Fantastic Beast of the Month! I am Rubeus Hagrid, keeper o’ keys and grounds at Hogwarts (I was also a professor fer a term or two). This section of the Daily Prophet is going to be dedicated to introducing a new kritter to our magical realm. It is my hope that you’ll learn something new and realize they aren’t all bad.
Hermione was visitin’ the other day and showed me this new Muggle contraption called a Podcast (it’s like radio but shorter and specific to one topic). ‘Twas called SpeakBeasty, and these “Muggles” (I think they are Squibs) were talkin’ ‘bout a movie, but more interestingly, magical beasts! I will share their knowledge, with my opinion added in o’course.
This segment is gonna be about a little kritter called a Pukwudgie. This is a 2-to-3-foot-tall creature from the Wampanoag folklore in Native American culture. They have a human look to ‘em but have bigger noses, fingers, and ears. It has smooth gray skin that sometimes glows!! How neat is that!! The podcast went more into detail about the abilities. I have just picked a few that were my favorite. Pukwudgies have the ability to create fire at will and appear and disappear as they please. The best part is that they can transform into a walking porcupine! It seems like a porcupine from the back and looks kinda like a human-troll hybrid from the front!
It is recommended that humans do not attempt to approach the Pukwudgie. They were once friendly to humans but now kidnap people, push them off cliffs, attack their victims with short knives and spears, and use sand to blind their victims. I am sure that these creatures are just misunderstood and mean no harm. I may need to go on a lil’ field trip to America.
Thanks fer readin’, and I hope you learned something! Remember to check out SpeakBeasty for an even more in-depth discussion and commentary on this kritter. Always remember to follow the spiders!
