UPDATED: “Cursed Child” and “Harry Potter” Alumni Nominated at Evening Standard Theatre Awards
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child continues to reign supreme over the West End by breaking records, winning awards (with Anthony Boyle recently winning Best West End Debut at the West End Frame Awards), and now being nominated at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards.
Cursed Child has been nominated for not only Best Play, but also Best Director (John Tiffany having already won the Cultural Award last week), Best Design (Christine Jones), and the Emerging Talent Award (Anthony Boyle).
Harry Potter and Cursed Child actors have also been recognized in a number of awards:
Best Actor
Kenneth Branagh (Professor Gilderoy Lockhart) for The Entertainer
Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort) for The Master Builder
Simon McBurney (Kreacher – DH1) for The Encounter
Best Actress
Noma Dumezweni (Hermione – Cursed Child) for Linda
Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy) for The Deep Blue Sea
Best Play
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Best Director
John Tiffany for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Best Design
Gareth Fry for The Encounter (featuring Simon McBurney)
Rob Howell for The Master Builder (featuring Ralph Fiennes)

The shortlist will be revealed on October 23 and the winners announced on November 13.

UPDATE 10/23
The shortlist has been revealed, narrowing each category down even more, and we’re delighted to see that Noma Dumezweni and Anthony Boyle are still in the running for Best Actress and Emerging Talent, respectively. Dumezweni is up against Potter alumna Helen McCrory in the Best Actress category. Kenneth Branagh and Ralph Fiennes also remain on the list, vying for Best Actor.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is on the shortlist for Best Play, and John Tiffany is up for Best Director.
