“Cursed Child” Wins Goodreads Choice Award 2016
If you’ve been following the Goodreads Choice Awards for the last few years, then we’re sure you’ll be aware that J.K. Rowling or Robert Galbraith has been nominated – and shortlisted – every year. Yet the author has always been beaten at the last hurdle, and often only just. Well, for the first time, a title that boasts J.K. Rowling’s name (even if she didn’t technically write it herself) has won a category!
Well, the results are finally in after weeks of voting. We’ve watched the rehearsal script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, written by Jack Thorne, rise through the categories. With a clear victory of 128, 543 votes, the script has won the category for Best Fantasy, beating authors such as V.E. Schwab (38, 615 votes) and Brandon Sanderson (28, 982 votes).
The full list of winners, as well as the runners-up, can be seen here. Other winners include Hamilton: The Revolution (Nonfiction), Alywn Hamilton (Debut Goodreads Author), and Sarah J. Maas (Young Adult Fantasy).
Congratulations to J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne!
