Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller on Their Newest Sci-Fi Projects
Fantastic Beasts stars Katherine Waterston (Tina) and Ezra Miller (Credence) both have some big fan franchise projects coming up (outside of the wizarding world), so we thought we’d share some exciting new images and interviews from their respective films.
Waterston will be starring in the newest addition to the Alien franchise, Alien: Covenant, as the female lead, Daniels. Have a look at her gun-wielding character below.
The synopsis reads,
In the new ‘Alien’ installment, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise. It’s not long before they find that the planet is a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David, a survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
In a recent interview, Waterston wasn’t allowed to go into much further detail about the plot, but she described that the characters were “colonists” and “scientists” but not “military experts.”
Alien: Covenant is directed by Ridley Scott, who directed the original Alien, starring Sigourney Weaver, and 2012’s prequel Prometheus. When asked about Scott’s ability to create strong female leads, Waterston said,
Yeah, I mean, people are talking a lot these days about the progress we’re making, or storytelling, with great roles for women. But… maybe Ridley[ i]s not getting enough credit.
I think [Scott’s] attitude about it is very similar to my own. It just seems obvious… There are a lot of cool, complicated women out there.
Watch Waterston talk more about the film and working with Ridley Scott in this interview with the Slanted.
And as it turns out, Waterston’s haircut in the film is thanks to Ezra Miller’s questionable hairdo in Fantastic Beasts! Apparently, after trying on one of Credence’s backup wigs on the Fantastic Beasts set, Waterston showed it to Ridley Scott, and he decided to use it in the film. “I’m just ripping off Ezra,” she said. We can see the resemblance!
Meanwhile, Ezra Miller will soon be seen in DC Comics’ Justice League as the Flash. Check him out alongside Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in this new promo image.
Miller compares the Flash to Ringo Starr, saying, “He annoys everybody, but he doesn’t have any specific beef with anyone.”
As for the rest of the Justice League, he describes,
Uncle Fish Curry [Aquaman] is very grumpy. Dad [Batman] gets grumpy too. (He’s had a long life of fighting crime.) Wonder Woman is very considerate, so even though she’s annoyed with the Flash, she’s still very compassionate.
Alien: Covenant will hit theaters on May 19, 2017, and Justice League is set for release on November 17, 2017.
