Emma Watson Named to Apolitical’s Young Leaders List for Gender Equality
What can’t Emma Watson do? Besides playing our favorite witch, she’s a Disney princess, a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, and the public face of UN Women’s movement for gender equality, HeForShe. Now, Apolitical has included her in the Young Leaders category of its Gender Equality Top 100 list.
Watson joins UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and fellow G7 speaker and Nobel laureate Nadia Murad on this list of the world’s trailblazers for women’s rights. Apolitical recognizes 100 of these activists, civil servants, politicians, and academics each year as outstanding policymakers, a list that includes icons like US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsburg and #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, as well as dozens of lesser-known heroes of the movement.
Watson also recently sat down with another Apolitical honoree and fellow G7 speaker, Congolese Nobel laureate Dr. Denis Mukwege, this past month. The two met in London to discuss the role of rape as a weapon in war and the need for advancement in women’s health care. Check out this moment from their conversation, and keep up with Emma Watson’s advocacy – she’s not stopping her fight for gender equality anytime soon.
