“Potted Potter” Gets Residency on the Las Vegas Strip
Las Vegas might not be the first city that comes to mind in association with Harry Potter, but one popular parody show now has its own residency! Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience has opened for previews at the Windows Showroom at Bally’s on the Las Vegas Strip, according to Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The 70-minute spoof of the Harry Potter series will remain at Bally’s for the next 12 months, and originators Dan and Jeff (Dan Clarkson and Jefferson Turner) will be starring in the show until June 23. After that time, new cast members will take over the performances. The show will run daily at 8 p.m., except on Thursdays.
Las Vegas Review-Journal interviewed Clarkson and Turner by phone about their new residency. Clarkson gave a quick summary.
This is literally two guys taking on all seven Harry Potter books in just 70 minutes. Jeff takes on Harry Potter. That leaves me to play all 350 other characters. I play everyone from Voldemort to [Arthur] Weasley to a fire-breathing dragon that will put ‘Game of Thrones’ to shame.
Clarkson added that his height alone (at 6’5″) justifies the price of admission to the “cozy” venue.
Watching me play these characters, at my height, alone will be worth the price of admission.
Intended for all ages, Potted Potter has been nominated twice for the Olivier Awards. As a nod to Las Vegas, Clarkson added that fans could see some additional guests in the show’s new residency.
It’s interesting how easily you can make house-elves into House Elvis. It might be that we have house-elves appearing for our Vegas show.
