First Trailer for “Escape from Pretoria” Released
The trailer for Daniel Radcliffe’s upcoming movie Escape from Pretoria has been released, along with a release date in the United Kingdom of March 4, 2020.
In an exclusive reveal from Empire on what is the 40th anniversary of the real events that inspired the movie, the trailer shows Radcliffe in the role of Tim Jenkin, an activist imprisoned for his “anti-apartheid activities.”
This is the first official look at the movie. Prior to the release of the trailer, fans had been piecing together snippets of information from photos captured during filming.
Based on real events, Escape from Pretoria follows the story of two men, Tim Jenkin (Radcliffe) and Stephen Lee (played by Daniel Webber), and their escape from Pretoria Prison in South Africa in 1979. Both men were imprisoned for working on behalf of the African National Conference, a South African political party, and were imprisoned alongside other anti-apartheid campaigners, including Nelson Mandela.
Radcliffe is joined by fellow Potter alumnus Ian Hart (Professor Quirrell), who can be seen in the trailer playing Denis Goldberg, another political activist. Check out the trailer below.
Speaking about the movie, Arclight Films chairman Gary Hamilton made reference to Escape from Pretoria‘s relevance and timelessness:
‘Escape [f]rom Pretoria’ is an elevated and timely relevant thriller that will stand the test of time. All the partners who have stepped up to embrace this amazing film are top-notch, and we could not be happier to be in business with companies [that] consistently deliver the best distribution results.
