David Heyman
The Los Angeles Times posted a never-before-seen photo of Dan Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, taken the day they first met. Producer David Heyman took that picture 9 years ago and he reflects on the Potter franchise and the trio in this interview.“I know they all will have great success in whatever they choose to do,” Heyman said at his Watford office, putting away his photo collection. “Emma is astonishingly bright. She is radiant and relaxed. Dan is extremely focused on his acting, and I have the fortune too to read his poetry and short stories, and there are some major poets who have written the most glowing, supportive things about his work. And Rupert — Rupert is the most natural comedian of the bunch. I think that he is like an old person in a young person’s body. He is a wonderful eccentric, a distinct original.”

In their latest newsletter to members, the UK cinema chain, Showcase Cinemas, released an exclusive interview with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince producer, David Heyman. In it he gives a brief but exciting snapshot of what we can expect from the sixth movie. When asked about the darkness of the film David said, ‘I don’t think it’s any darker than the fifth. I really don’t. I think it’s on a par with that.’ Talking about the overemphasis people place on the darkness of the films Heyman stated that, ‘Everybody obsesses with the darkness but ultimately I think that what it is, it’s very accessible, moving, funny and exciting.’

A new interview with Daniel Radcliffe and producer David Heyman has been publised in Empire Magazine. Dan talks about how refreshing Deathly Hallows part one is because it's always set in different places, and not just at Hogwarts. He also said, "I think for me, what's intimidating is going to be the walk at the end to meet Voldemort in the forest. That's going to be really tough, but I can't wait."
Heyman added what will probably be a relief for fans who want the films to be completely true to the books, "I think there'll be less edited from this film than films past because we have the freedom of making two films and I think it's going to be fantastic."

The latest issue of Empire Magazine, set to be released on April 23, will contain interviews with actor Daniel Radcliffe and movie producer David Heyman, as part of its Harry Potter feature. Empire released a preview in which the pair discuss the splitting of the final film. Whilst no mention was made as to where the split will occur, David Heyman gives us an insight into how this point was selected.
"We've played around with a couple of places and ultimately settled on a place that we think is very exciting, and I think quite bold, in that it's not necessarily where one might expect. You want to give a sense of completion, on one hand, but a sense that there's another piece, more to come. We tried one and then Steve (Kloves, screenwriter) came up with the idea to try it another way and when we tried that, it felt just right."
Daniel Radcliffe added that the split is "at a very tense cliff-hanger". He also speaks briefly about filming the epilogue, saying, "I am nervous about that because if it's good I'll be really, really pleased; if it's not good and that's what people are left with, that would be awful. If it's a choice between having me, Rupert and Emma looking a bit stupid and it being slightly comical or having other actors play us, I would go for other actors every time. So, we'll see."
Speaking at the premiere of Yes Man in Los Angeles, Potter producer David Heyman talked briefly with The Press Assocation about the film franchise and what they're planning for Deathly Hallows:David revealed work is about to begin in the new year on the seventh movie in the series.
"We finished the sixth film which'll be coming out next summer and we start filming the seventh which we'll be breaking into two parts for a 54 week shoot starting in February."

IESB.net has a great new interview with Potter producer David Heyman, who talks about, among other films, Deathly Hallows:IESB: I have to ask the obligitory Harry Potter questions, is it a good thing they split up the upcoming films?
Heyman: Yes, I didn't want to do it initially. I was like, "This is crazy." And then the decision rested ultimately with the filmmakers. The studio said you do whatever you think is right and initially I was like, "This is crazy!" And then I started going through the book and the thought of doing it in one film is insane. This is the story where so much is resolved. In previous films we've been able to remove certain things that didn't relate to Harry, we took Harry's journey. And in this one it was nothing, I mean, it was so much harder to remove things. The think we could have removed would have been the Deathly Hallows, but the book is called The Deathly Hallows and that would have been slightly problematic. And so we made the decision and I was speaking with Steve the other day, Clovis [sic] the writer, and he says, "you know there are times I think we could have done three movies..." There is so much material and it's such great material that now I feel very positive about the two film approach.
Heyman also talks about working on Potter-related movies after Deathly Hallows, and specifically says that he would not work on Beedle the Bard. This is particularly interesting because just the other day we showed you a rumor saying WB was considering a Beedle film.
With all the news concerning The Tales of Beedle the Bard there have been a few other things of note going on:- Alan Rickman, who plays Severus Snape in the Potter series appeared Wednesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He also did an interview with SciFi.com where he discussed his filming schedule and the impact of the final film:
"Well, it'll be a big finish, won't it? That's true, and appropriately. You can feel it now, the size of the undertaking."
The online magazine also got a hold of producer David Heyman where he discussed the delay of the sixth film and the impact of the decision to split Deathly Hallows.
- On Thursday, RDR Books officially withdrew its appeal of U.S. District Judge Patterson's decision to publish an unauthorized companion novel to the Potter series. J.K. Rowling's public relations agency issued the following statement:
"We are delighted that this matter is finally and favorably resolved and that J.K. Rowling's rights -- and indeed the rights of all authors of creative works -- have been protected," the statement said. "We are also pleased to hear that rather than continue to litigate, RDR have themselves decided to publish a different book prepared with reference to Judge Patterson's decision."
The Muskegon Chronicle goes on to say that in the new book the words "An Unauthorized Guide to Harry Potter Fiction and Related Materials" appears boldly below "The Lexicon" title and above author Steve Vander Ark's name. There is further explanation that neither Rowling nor a host of others with trademarks and other interests in the Harry Potter series had any part in the book.
- Finally, USA Today has written up a preview of ABC Family's Potter weekend which begins tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET. You can expect to see deleted scenes from Goblet of Fire as well as a look into Half-Blood Prince. The paper quotes producer David Heyman on the sixth film:
"It's different than the other films. It's not the non-stop action that some of the others are, although there is some action. It's more of an emotional film."
ComingSoon.net recently sat down with the producer of the Potter films to talk about his upcoming film The Boy in Striped Pyjamas. Thankfully for us fans, they also asked him about the Half-Blood Prince delay to July 2009.In the interview, Heyman confirms that the film is complete except for one 'tweak' they'll be making. He also says that to prevent the film from leaking, it will not be pieced together until it has to be printed for theaters (six weeks prior to opening). Read the piece for David's thoughts on the delay itself, too.
Coming Soon also had a quick interview with David Thewlis in the same article. He says that the romance between Tonks and Lupin will be set up in Half-Blod Prince in preparation for Deathly Hallows.
EDIT: Moviehole.net has two interviews with David Thewlis from the same press event. You can check them out here and here. Thanks to Snitck Seeker for the tip!
