Reminder: OOTP preview this weekend
We told you previously that ABC Family would show a preview of Order of the Phoenix this weekend. The station will also broadcast the first Potter film tomorrow, the second on Saturday, and the third on Sunday; during Prisoner, they will reveal some never-before-seen footage from the fifth film.

We currently don't know when the OOTP clip will be aired, but some of our readers are guessing it will play between the two showings, 5 and 8 PM, of POA on Sunday. If you can capture a video and send it in, do let us know.

POA sketch to be sold today
A previously unseen sketch for the third Harry Potter book will go on sale today in London for 8,500 pounds sterling. Art experts estimate that the lucky buyer could re-sell the coveted piece for a five-figure sum.

The sketch's illustrator, Cliff Wright, who also drew the artwork for Books 2 and 3, commented: "In some ways I prefer the sketch to what ended up on the cover. It's more dynamic: in the final version, the hippogriff is not moving quite so fast. JK Rowling herself faxed over an image of what she thought the hippogriff should look like."

JKR: Book 7 coming along nicely
For the first time in five years, JK Rowling has won a literary prize in her own country. In a poll of 3,000 schoolchildren, aged 8-12, Half-Blood Prince was voted the best Scottish children's book. Jo was unable to attend the awards ceremony, but did pass along this message, containing news of progress on the seventh HP book:

"Thank you so much for this award. I'm sure any writer will agree that it's always reassuring to receive recognition for your work, but it's particularly meaningful when the decision has been made by the readers themselves. To them, I'm enormously grateful and delighted that Harry Potter continues to give so much pleasure.

"I'm sorry I am unable to receive this award in person today, but I currently have my head down writing the final book, which is coming along nicely."

Thanks to everyone who emailed!

Jason Isaacs on filming the Ministry scenes
The Lucius Malfoy actor recently spoke to The Observer about his upcoming projects, and, of course, a little about Harry Potter.

"I spent two weeks having a wand fight with Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix) and Gary Oldman (Sirius). Potter is a well-oiled machine now, whichever director is in charge, although it's a slow process working with all those special effects. But it's such a laugh - five weeks hanging out with Oldman and Maggie Smith (McGonagall) and Michael Gambon (Dumbledore), who's a right mischievous devil."

Dan sends Holiday Greeting to fans
Dan Radcliffe fansites DR.com and DR.co.uk both received a special holiday message from the actor who plays Harry in the Potter films. In it, he reveals that he is finished filming Order of the Phoenix and talks about what's in his schedule for next year:

It has been a very exciting year for me. I had a great time making 'Order of the Phoenix' and working again with Gary OIdman, and for the first time Imelda Staunton, was simply fantastic. David Yates was an inspired director who I would walk on hot coals to work with again.

As many of you know I am going on stage next year, to appear in Equus and the letters of support I have received since the announcment, from many fans have been very exciting to read. Thank you for your words of encouragement.

Later next year I will film MY BOY JACK and again am completely thrilled to be working on this fantastic and very moving script. It is going to be a very full year and I will relish every moment.

Dan also included a new photo of himself with the letter, which will be mailed to everyone who writes to him beginning in January 2007.

Description of HBO's 'Phoenix' sneak peek
As we reported earlier this month, HBO will begin to show a sneak peek at the fifth Harry Potter movie, starting today and ending on December 17th. Previously, we had no information concerning what scenes from the movie would be shown, but some details have now emerged online.

Low-quality versions of the OOTP trailer have already leaked online, so we can tell you that this sneak peek does sound similar, though it may contain some new shots from the film. Thanks, TLC!

If anyone can capture a video of this, please let us know.

Book stores receive HP 7 ads
In the past number of weeks, we've received innumerable reports with regard to Amazon and various other online stores taking pre-orders for Book 7. The book is not yet finished nor has a release date been announced, thus we believe these stores are simply jumping the gun and assuming the book will hit shelves next summer. However, now Barnes & Noble is beginning to receive posters with information on pre-ordering the novel, and one employee sent HPANA this report:

I had the joy of opening the holiday sign packages at the Barnes and Noble I work at today to discover signs for the seventh book. They're vague and I don't know an exact date, but it means that the company big wigs probably know a date on which to expect more information. So, if nothing else, it's a sign that good news should be headed our way soon. As you can see from the attached photo, the book will be sold at 40% off list price for those who pre-order.

You can see a photo of the poster here. Jo Rowling has always told fans to heed only what she or her spokespeople say about the seventh book, so please take this advertisement with a minuscule pinch of salt. We will update you on what JKR's representative has to say shortly.

UPDATE: Our guess was right. A JK Rowling spokesperson has just informed us that Book 7 writing "is going well" but stores taking pre-orders means absolutely nothing at this time.

ABC Family to air OOTP preview on December 1st
A short commercial for an upcoming Order of the Phoenix preview was recently aired on ABC Family. Thanks to reader Ashley, we have a detailed description of the preview's ad:

The first thing that you see is two (what appear to be) Death Eaters, one with a blue mask and one with a green mask, I believe. It then switches to a scene with Harry in it looking scared and sweaty. Then it switches to a scene with Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Neville, and Luna riding broomsticks (they ride on Thestrals in the book) in London right over the Thames River. You see the London Bridge in the background and you see a cruise tour boat that they are flying past. Then it switches to Harry, Ron, and Hermione (Ron isn't present in the book) in the Forbidden Forest backing away from something - it's either Grawp or the Centaurs. Then it switches to Harry, Hermione, Ron, Luna, Neville, and Ginny flying past the Houses of Parliament/Big Ben. And then it switches to Harry flying towards the screen with London in the background, over the Thames River.

The Order of the Phoenix preview will come as part of ABC Family's Harry Potter weekend, which will air on December 1st. We will have a video online shortly afterwards.

Thanks to everyone else who emailed!

Emma scared of the end of Harry Potter
Emma Watson yesterday gave an enlightening speech at Oxford University, detailing what she's learned from playing Hermione, how she really enjoys the Potter sets, how Evanna Lynch humbles her, and a number of other interesting matters. Emma also spoke a little about her future, explaining how she wishes to continue her schooling and acting career.

Emma Watson has always wanted both school and acting, and this is how she sees her future. She really wants to go to university, particularly when the acting system is 'unreliable.' She wants to go elsewhere, to learn what it is like to live on your own, to live with friends and away from parents. Speaking of which, she was then asked what her parents -- who sat on the front bench to Watson's right -- think. Both attended Oxford and are intelligent enough to do what is best for their daughter.

'All my money is pretty much locked away,' she said, and she is more than happy with this. She doesn't really like being asked about money, but does describe that she has an allowance and that enables her to live like a normal teenage schoolgirl.

Will she be comfortable in a future of acting where she is not Hermione? It is 'a bit of a daunting concept' and she hopes that she is 'talented enough to pull it off' when she does finally dabble in something different. Perhaps theater or maybe just a 'big blonde bouffant.'

A very thorough report of Emma's appearance at the prestigious university can be seen over at TLC.

UPDATE: Thanks to Stella, you can now view some photos of Emma's appearance here. If anyone attended the event and managed to take some photos, or has a report, please let us know.

UPDATE #2: MuggleNet reader Faye was in attendance at the event and had this to say about Emma's speech:

She did a brilliant speech, talking about her life since Potter started, filming experiences, life outside the films, speaking with JK about Hermione, what she may want to do after and much more. She seems such a level-headed and grounded young woman and that's so good to see in this age where sometimes the young in showbiz can forget reality. It was a brilliant speech and inspirational to see someone so young, so wise.

Production Weekly's latest issue contains information concerning Half-Blood Prince, including that David Yates is set to direct the film. While everyone should consider this a rumor for now, we heard that David had been in talks with WB to possibly direct HBP.

We'll update you when we know more! Thanks to H for the tip.

A video of this appearance can be seen here (right click and save, 4.35 MB). Please note, however, that the video may not be entirely suitable for younger audiences and we therefore urge you to view with caution. Thanks to Nick for the recording!

OOTP trailer description false
On Wednesday we showed you an alleged description of the upcoming Order of the Phoenix trailer, which had been previewed at early Happy Feet screenings. Bad news now, because Warner Bros. has just informed us that the description is completely false. This does not mean, however, that the description isn't accurate of the trailer shown in theaters recently, but that it doesn't reflect the content of the trailer to be released on November 17th.

Radcliffe hopes to play death in last film
In a recent interview, Daniel Radcliffe was asked if he would be playing a death in Movie 7, and he then suggested that Harry might die in the final book: "That's the only way [J.K. Rowling] could ever halt any call for her to keep writing [Potter books], because, I mean, if Harry survives, she'll just be getting plagued by requests to write an eighth book for the rest of her life."

The actor's friend also drew a parallel between Harry vs. Voldemort and Sherlock Holmes vs. Moriarty. In the book, Holmes had to die in order for his nemesis, Moriarty, to be vanquished. Dan continued, saying: "But, obviously, he [my friend] hasn't read the sequel [in which Holmes was revived]. So, yes, but that's the thing that I would sort of like to see coming."

Thanks to everyone who emailed!

Emma Thompson says HP role is 'fun to play'
Emma Thompson (Trelawney in POA and OOTP) recently gave two interviews to coincide with the release of her new movie, Stranger than Fiction. Newsweek asked how her daughter has reacted to her being cast in the Harry Potter films. "I'm in big with my daughter. In fact, I'm taking her to the set at half term. So I'm in with her and her friends... It's a great threat to have. 'I will not take you to the premiere. I will not give you Daniel Radcliffe's number.'"

The actress also told USA Today that roles in child-oriented movies, like Harry Potter and Nanny McPhee, "are very rich and fun to play." Additionally, on facing off with Imelda Staunton (Umbridge) in Order of the Phoenix, Thompson said: "We were playing something that was very cross comedy and tragedy."

Finally, Emma appeared on the Ellen show yesterday, and attempted to discuss her character's fate in Book 7 but didn't manage to get the words out. Check out a very amusing clip here on YouTube.

UPDATE: The actress will also appear on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross at 10:35 tonight. We will have a video online shortly afterwards.

Thanks to Andrew, Hemlock, Kristen, Heather, and Nicola!

Hoffman not HBP director
The other day we reported that Michael Hoffman was slated to direct the sixth Potter film. WB has now confirmed that this is not true. No word yet on any other possible directors, but it should be announced in the coming months.

Description of Movie 5 trailer
We told you previously that our first glimpse at Order of the Phoenix would precede Happy Feet, due for release on November 17th. However, this past week, advance screenings of the film have taken place, and accordingly the first OOTP trailer has already been seen by a few lucky eyes.

Dissendium.com now has a detailed description of the trailer, which sounds absolutely amazing! Though, if you want to save yourself the anticipation and excitement, it might not be wise to read it. We're currently checking with WB on this description and will update you shortly.

EDIT: False; see the appropriate post above for more details.

Jason Isaacs on 'This Morning'
The Lucius Malfoy actor appeared today on the UK chat show, where he discussed the Harry Potter films and mentioned that he finished filming his scenes for OOTP last week. If anyone managed to record the program, please let us know.

Thanks to everyone who emailed!

UPDATE: Jade has written in with a report of what Jason had to say:

He talked about the HP films he'd been in, about how he came up with a costume because he didn't like the original - salt and pepper hair and a pinstripe suit. In COS he made up the idea to kick Dobby in Dumbledore's office. He worked with Gary Oldman (one of his favourite actors) on OOTP and they had loads of fun doing the fight scene at the Ministry. They enjoyed coming up with new and exciting ways to wave a wand and to fight with spells.

Thanks, Jade!

JK Rowling ranks #5 in top UK fan bases
According to a poll by hotel company Travelodge, Jo has the fifth biggest fan base in the United Kingdom. The Harry Potter author ranks behind Manchester United (an English soccer team), pop star Robbie Williams, and the Liverpool Football Club. This news poster is disappointed to see that Irish rock band U2 comes in at number six.

TIME dubs JKR a hero
In celebration of their 60th publication anniversary, TIME Europe reflects on the heroes that have emerged in the past six decades. Jo Rowling, of course, made the list, along with dozens of other inspirational figures. Here is an excerpt from the magazine's write-up on JK:

Always have faith in yourself. Be true to your friends. And never repot a mandrake plant without wearing earmuffs (their screams are fatal, you know). As any Harry Potter fan knows, you don't need a wand to learn life's most important lessons.

Harry may have been born a wizard, but his journey through adolescence is purely human. For kids, he's a trusted companion during that awkward, angst-ridden adventure called growing up. For grown-ups, his escapades offer the chance to feel like a kid again. And that is J.K. Rowling's greatest trick: remembering the thrills, and fears, of being young.

The latest episode of our weekly Harry Potter podcast has been released! If you're new to the show or have been wondering what all the hoopla is about, this is a good episode to start out with. - The crew discusses the latest update to Jo's site.

- Main Discussion: Luna Lovegood.
- Is she related to Ollivander? Lupin?
- Is she as "Loony" as everyone makes her out to be?
- Her relationship with Harry and the comfort she provides him.
- Considering that she does not seem to fear death, will Luna be a pivotal character in Book 7?
- Why is she such a social outcast?

HBO to air sneak peek of OOTP
HBO on Demand will start airing "a sneak preview" of Order of the Phoenix on November 20th. Right now there are no other details concerning what will be included in HBO's preview, but our guess is that it might include clips from the trailer (which will be released on the 17th before Happy Feet).

As we reported in October, Goblet of Fire will make its television premiere on the 19th. In association with the movie, HBO is holding a contest to win tickets to the OOTP premiere.

No time is listed on HBO's website for the OOTP sneak preview, but we will update you as soon as we find out! Thanks to Tom for the tip.

Interview with David Thewlis
Metro.co.uk has a new "60 Seconds" interview with the Remus Lupin actor. In it, he mentions that filming for Order of the Phoenix is nearly complete and talks about the atmosphere on set:

I love doing the Harry Potter films. It's such a big family, everyone knows each other very well and have worked together for so long on these films. The other good thing is you know it's going to get seen, that it will be in the cinemas. This isn't always the case with films you make. You know millions of people are going to see it.

David also doesn't believe that Harry will die in Book 7. For the full interview, visit Metro's website. Thanks to Amanda for the tip!
