British DH audiobook to be released July 21st
British DH audiobook to be released July 21st Bloomsbury has just announced that for the first time the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows audiobook, read by Stephen Fry, will be released at the same time as the book (July 21st). Click here to hear Fry's message about this (containing a possible clue?), and here to see a promotional image of Fry along with Jo Rowling.

Here are some other interesting (random) facts about this audiobook:

-Listening time for the DH audio edition is 24 hours and 1 minute
-The audio editions of the Harry Potter books have now sold over a million copies.
-Stephen Fry has spent a total of 38 days in the studio recording all seven Harry Potter books
-Stephen Fry has voices for over 170 characters from the books
-In the same time as it takes to listen to all seven audiobooks you could go to the moon, and still have nearly a day left over to look around, or listen to a Harry Potter book, once you got there.
-In the same time as it takes to listen to the Deathly Hallows audiobook, you could:
· Fly from London to Sydney, Australia
· Run the men’s 100 metres world record 8800 times
· Play 16 football matches
· Listen to Queen’s ‘It’s a kind of magic’ 330 times
· Watch The Wizard of Oz 14 times

Posted by mweasley721 Jun 29th 2007

Hmmm... Never Tickle A Sleeping Dragon... An interesting 'clue', haha. :) I can totally picture Hermione freaking out because Ron/Harry never bothered to learn to school motto.

Posted by imapirate5 Jun 29th 2007

never tickle sleeping dragons?? that's the latin phrase he said, correct? maybe it has to do with the dragon the trio is riding on the US Delux Ed.

Posted by emma30 Jun 29th 2007

it's cool, but i wouldn't be able to take it seriously...the guy's voice is kind of silly : p

Posted by Sirius_ly_Addicted Jun 29th 2007

Cool. Wanna watch wizard of Oz 14 times?????? If you listen to pink floyd, then put in the best of Pink Floyd,,, Including: Time, Money, Eclipse, ect. And press the play button when the lion (from wizard of oz (Beginning WB thing)) Roars on the third time, Mute wizard of Oz, and then sit back and enjoy..... It goes along with it real well! Kinda off subject.....

Posted by Cess Jun 29th 2007

Ahhh...I love Stephen Fry... Never tickle a sleeping dragon...Finally, we are going to find out what the heck that was all about. It seems to be all concerning the founders isn't it? We are getting all these little clues about them: There were a lot of questions about them in the WOMBATs, they have been featured as wizards of the month for the last two months (HH for May, SS for June, my money is on RR for July, and GG for August, when we have already read the book), we know that two of the titles that were trademarked a few years ago were HH and the Hallows of Hogwarts, and HH and the Hogwarts Hallows, and now we get that the school motto is a clue... There is no way that we are not going back to Hogwarts, apparently it's going to be a very important part of the book.

hmm, never tickle a sleeping dragon.... is this 2 do wiv the plot or just a silly red herring? cant w8 til DH will b at the shops at midnite 2 buy it! By the way thx v much 2 all the ppl who run mugglenet, i go on it every day at least twice and it has kept me going between the neverending w8s between the books!!!

Posted by inomoreabouthpthnu Jun 29th 2007

hmmm...i wonder..

Posted by RyAn2006 Jun 29th 2007

Ohhh interesting! ive also been intrigued by the fact "Draco" means Dragon-will this be important?! Also Hogwarts on the back cover, a dragon on the front...the school motto will be very important I believe! Im so glad he thought it was fabulous!! Although the fact the audio edition is being released on the same day is something weve known since we knew the book release date-its not new information!

Posted by freem Jun 29th 2007

Oh I love Stephen Fry. I'm tempted to buy all of the audiobooks once I get the money, just for his voice xD Also, I'm quite excited for what appears to be a big dragon plot in DH!

Posted by urgtheunclean Jun 29th 2007

How random is this??!! Who actually made these calculations and with what kind of thought process?lol. I mean, can you just picture someone thinking "Hmmm.. lets see how many times i can watch wizard of oz in 24 hrs and 1 minute" or "How many football matches can YOU play in 24hrs 1minute.. only 14? I can play 16. Ha"

Posted by hpintwense06 Jun 29th 2007

hahaha I really liked that little "clue" from Fry. I think that reading the 7th book to me is gonna be like opening a present... you don't know what your getting! YAY!!!!!!!!! So excited!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Hpfanaticgrl Jun 29th 2007

Wow! He's great! =] He's funny too, I still love Jim Dale though, but I really want to hear Stephen Fry read one of the books. He has a great voice!

Posted by boons914 Jun 29th 2007

Stephen Fry is amazing. He's one of my favorite actors / sketch comedians, plus he's a renown author. He's simply amazing. I think I might go to the library and pick up the previous audio books, just to see how he does them. I'm positively sure he does them well though, because he's such a great actor.

Posted by jessiethinks Jun 29th 2007

What happens if you tickle a dragon though? What if this whole story is a dream? A dragon's dream? I'd hate that!

Posted by stainedvintage Jun 29th 2007

So yeah im gonna go watch wizard of oz 14 times. haha.

Posted by lovexlaugh_potter Jun 29th 2007

is the bit about Queen in there for Jamie and Andrew?

Posted by bwof Jun 29th 2007

Haha, doesn´t seem that short that audio book..." go to the moon and fly from london to sydney". Lol. Not bad. I have never listened to these audio books...maybe I should give it a try...

Posted by LadyM Jun 29th 2007

HOLY CRAP NEVER TICKLE A SLEEIPNG DRAGON! theres a dragon on the cover of the american deluxe version! dragonsdragonsdragonsdrag onsdragons!...ok im done being hyper/nonsense for the day!

Posted by RyAn2006 Jun 29th 2007

I believe that the Audio edition for Harry potter and the Order of the Phoenix-at 38 chapters, about 255,000 words-was 24 hours long itself. Does this mean that at 608 pages UK Deathly Hallows may just have small text but be as "wordy" as Phoenix? Can anyone confirm the length of HBP for me-as it is 607 pages in UK we should be able to tell the length of the book roughly word wise! I need to get out more....

Posted by srose2270 Jun 29th 2007

ooooooh, cool trivia. next time i fly from london to sydney, which i've never really planned on, i'll be sure to buy and bring all the audiobooks on the plane with me.

Posted by themissinglink22 Jun 29th 2007

hmm very interesting....never tickle a sleeping dragon.....he mentions the motto and there's a dragon on the cover...Coincidence??? I think not the facts are great...who wouldn't want to watch the Wizard of Oz 14 times?? haha

Posted by bella_rox_4eva Jun 29th 2007

Hmm...Never tickle a sleeping Dragon.... Maybe that's got something to do with the deluxe edition cover. Also, because he said, as they say at 'Hogwarts' could we be seeing Hogwarts again?

Posted by rob15 Jun 29th 2007

i say we all go to OOTP in ponchos...

Posted by MrsSakuraPotter Jun 29th 2007

Okay... This has been said on the forums before, but I must reiterate. "Never Tickle A Sleeping Dragon" Harry, Ron, and Hermione sit astride a dragon on the US Deluxe Edition cover. (Possibly Norbert? To me it looks like a Hungarian Horntail, not a Norwegian Richback.) I always found it interesting that Hogwarts had such a motto. Could the school be housing a dragon? It did hold a basilisk in utter secrecy. Personally, I always thought the title was more of a metaphor... That Hogwarts was not a school to be trifled with. Perhaps some of the trio's adventure takes place in Romania.

never tickle a sleeping punto...

Posted by maki Jun 29th 2007

never tickle a sleeping dragon? only jk rowling can create this stuff! she's really a GENIUS! all this clues and hints and things that you think are irrelevant but are really major and all the magic and names and plots and personalities....she really has a genius mind....

Posted by Chochy Jun 29th 2007

This means that Deathly Hallows is LONGER than Goblet of Fire. The Stephen Fry recording of Goblet of Fire runs just under 21 hours. That makes the Deathly Hallows recording 3 hours longer than the Goblet of Fire one. While there could be a variation in reading speed, 3 hours difference makes it obvious that it is longer. YAY!

Posted by MissMarauder Jun 29th 2007

ahh... gotta love Stephen Fry!

Posted by Killer_Queen26 Jun 29th 2007

I love the Queen reference. I've never been able to listen to that song without thinking about Harry Potter.

Posted by Nimbuschick Jun 29th 2007

Posted by Sorlia Jun 29th 2007
