Stephen Fry spends too much time talking
Never tickle a sleeping dragon.......in what book was that said?
Thats really interesting considering I usually watch the Wizard of oz at least 10 times a day... :) its my favorite movie!
u are a crazy bean pole
We may finally learn why Jo always made that word put at the first page of every HP books. :) @hp_rocks13, it writes in every book, at the first page where you can see the Hogwarts emblem; it only writes in a different language. ;)
Doesn't Draco mean dragon? Never tickle a sleeping dragon. Perhaps Draco, after being blackmailed into being in Voldemort's service, takes up the fight against Voldemort to protect himself and his family.
Draco means i am gay
the "clue" was only Latin it translates to "never tickle a sleeping dragon" and is the motto of hogwarts found on the title page of Uk/Canada HP books right under the Hogwarts crest!
I like Jim Dale way more than Stephen Fry.
i have never listened to the audio books cuz i listened to like a page of GoF and i liked reading it better but man his voice is awesome! i may have to buy DH on audiobook so i can hear him read it! never tickle a sleeping dragon? i'm guessing MuggleCast will cover this little clue in an upcoming episode but i am loving all the dragon connections so far...it's playing more into the book parallels which i love ~Sarah
i can take on a dragon easlily...
That is soo cool! Haha :] Stephen Fry is so awesome.
hmm...was the dragon on the cover awakened by the trio? hm...
No offer to Fry but I adore Jim Dale!!! But cool it will be available same day!
I'm a bit confused! I just checked google and Titillo means tickle in latin. Not titillandus. And Dormitorius means sleeping. Not Dormiens. And I also found out that Draco means a Snake-like dragon. The dragon we saw on the U.S.A. Deluxe Edition of DH also looks like a Snake-like dragon! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm..... Could this mean something?
the little latin bit in the teaser means "Never provoke the sleeping dragon."
Okay the dragon on the Deluxe Edition of DH only sorta looks like a Snake-like dragon but it could still mean something!!!!!!!!!!!
I've said SO many times over the last month or so, ever since the Deluxe cover came out that ''Never tickle a sleeping dragon'' in significant SURELY to the school because it sounds kinda stupid and stupid things shouldn't be on something SO important as the school's emblem. I could swear that Voldemort will attack the school. Now we know that DD has casted many protection spells over Hogwarts but Hogwarts has been there long before Dumbledore's time so it surely has something mighty to protect it. A DRAGON, maybe... And I can't believe somebody thinks Snape is evil.Do you agree with this. In HP we know that DD and LV are the strongest by far. And after them comes Snape. So now that DD is dead, Harry has to fight LV AND Snape?! It's too much and the story would be far more interesting if he was good and when Harry and Snape meet, Snape shows Harry, let's say Hufflepuf's destroyed Cup. I AM CERTAIN Snape will destroy a horcrux, it is the only way that Harry will believe he is not evil. Maybe not good, but NOT evil...
of course snape aint evil i woz sure of it after readin the 6th buk but wen i calmed down i saw the light and realised that snape woz gd
erm....I wonder if that is a clue, or just, you know, something to get us riled up....? Well, at any rate, I hope it's a clue and it means they're going back to Hogwarts or something. =] I'll just sit here and listen to all of you're theories, I think. =]
I don't know about snape...I hope he's evil bc personally I hated him from the first time I saw him...lol he's so mean to poor harry!
I just hope that the dragon on the cover is Norbert. I was expecting him to end up being the dragon Harry drew in Goblet of Fire but, alas, he was not.
Personally, I never cared for the Hogwarts motto. Yeah, it's funny, but I have always felt it was too much like the quote Bilbo developed after escaping Smaug in "The Hobbit", which goes: "Never laugh at live dragons"
I really don't see Snape being evil because HOW on earth are Harry, Ron, and Hermione going to beat LV, Snape, Bellatrix, Malfoy, Wormtail, Fernir... We know that the DE will probably have a major conflict with the Order but when it comes to Horcruxes and Voldemort, none of the above are going to be present because nobody knows about the Horcruxes. So it's the trio versus Snape and an immortal dark wizard who is unmatched by power, i don't think so. Snape is surely good of one simple reason. If let's say Bellatrix killed Dumbledore it is game over for the Good side because nobody can stop Voldemort in hand-to-hand combat except Dumbledore (and Harry but certainly not yet, he couldn't cast a spell on Snape). So if the bad guyes have LV and Snape who could stop them from killing everybody? And know this, Snape has never been beaten by anybody in combat yet, he hasn't fighted that much but can anybody except DD and LV defeat him, i don't think so...
I love Stephen Fry! I wish we got the UK audio books in Canada, but we only get the American versions. We get the UK books, why can't we get the UK audio books?
that's axctually really funny!! lol, I never heard Steohen Fry, but I sure love Jim Dale!!!
I just don't buy Snape being evil. True, he is a total jerk, but that's different from being evil. The way I see it, what happened on the Astronomy Tower was designed to save the soul of Draco Malfoy. Remember, Dumbledore said earlier in the book that murdering someone fragments the soul. Draco, while he is also a jerk, has never killed and thus has an intact soul. Dumbledore was already a dead man before Snape killed him. If the Death Eaters didn't bully Malfoy into doing it, one of them surely would have done it. I think Dumbledore made Snape promise to do the deed himself before Draco was forced to do it. It's a bit like when you see a hero shoot an innocent person dead because a quick death is the only mercy he can offer the poor soul.
Okay so I just finished reading the first HP book when I came across this passage...."The passage sloped downward, and Harry was reminded of Gringotts. With an unpleasant jolt of the heart, he remembered the dragons said to be guarding vaults in the wizards' bank. If they met a dragon, a fully-grown dragon--Norbert had been bad enough..." This was the part when they just escaped from the Devil's Snare. So as I read it I thought wildy, "what if there is a dragon under Hogwarts?". And so far I think Stephen Fry's clue helps my theory...maybe that's where the trio gets their dragon? Then again it cold also be Norbert or it could be a dragon from Gringotts, but that doesnt fit with the clue. I really think there is a "sleeping dragon" under Hogwarts....
As for the name "Draco". Literally, it means "serpent". Rowling once mentioned this in an interview. Yes, it has been adopted to refer to dragons as well, but Rowling specifically said, at least once, that his name refers to serpents rather than dragons. Probably because his beliefs reflect those of Slytherin.
i heart stephen fry! QI rocks!
ok im so confused i must have totaly missed something.( i wasnt able to get to a computer for three weeks) why is'nt jim dale doing the audiobook for the DH? and who's stephen fry? im soo lost someone fill me in please lol
Half-Blood Prince was only 18.5 hours long and in the UK HBP was 608 pages too. So UK DH must have smaller font!
Well that was random! informational.... but random.
Stephen Fry's not the guy that normally records them, is he? My little bro listens to him; i think it's a different guy. But, no matter! Just out of curiousity (*says it like Elizabeth Swan*) who came up with all those random facts? *wonders what type of weirdos are running Mugglenet* But, they're weirdos that we love. :-)
And what the heck does the school motto have to do with anything!? Never tickle a sleepign dragon!?! HUH!? Thought somebody mentioned somethign about how "draco" means "serpent", not dragon, so maybe that DOES mean somethign... Interesting. And Jim Dale! Hp_gradgurl08 reminded me that it was Jim Dale... Oh... he reads the American edition...I get it. *facepalm*
Well, maybe the trio is going to learn the hard way about just when the Antipodean Opaleye DOES get violent...
The deluxe edition has a misty-eyed Atipodean Opaleye. Maybe Harry has to use Rictusempra on it to wake it up?
I own most the the British audio-books, and I love all of them. Stephen Fry's voice and character portrayel is just excellent. Those are some pretty weird facts =)
so is jim dale still going to do the english edition or is this stephen fry for both? I looove the audio books i have all of them so far i love the way jim dale does the voices =)
Well, I'm surprised no one's mentioned that Jo looks very comfortable and happy with Stephen. She's worked wih him on the British Audiobooks, listen to the BBC radio4 interview from (?) 2005 with Stephen and Jo. I think they see eye to eye on many things outside the world she has created. Stephen Fry is a very interesting peron , writer and talents actor well worth finding his books or other performances if you have'nt come across him before. On the other hand I know nothing at all about Jum dale. So there you go!
Hp_gradgurl08, Jim Dale reads the American audio books and Stephen Fry does the British ones. Okay. :) I don't know what Jim Dale sounds like but I like the way Stephen fry reads the character's.
oh ok thank you for clearing that up for me =) and stephen fry seems to have a lot of support so i think ill check him out ! im so sad this is the last hp but im excited to hear it on audio!
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. But aren't the audio books narrated by Jim Dale?
as arianna pointed out to me the english version is indeed done by jim dale. but the british version is done by stephen fry. =) yay harry potter!
sorry to correct my last comment jime dale does the AMERICAN version and Stephen fry does the BRITISH version. =)
is this clue supposed to be giving us a hint about hogwarts or about dragons??? if it is about hogwarts, i hope theyre not going back. how can harry ron & hermy manage to take classes, go to godrics hollow, find horcruxes, go to a wedding, and take NEWTS all at once?? and the whole "never tickle a sleeping dragon...." quote just confuses the heck out of me. who wood tickle a sleeping dragon anyways? well i suppose hagrid might :] ps- everyones theory about a dragon under hogwarts is leaving out one BIG part of that theory..... WHY WOOD A DRAGON BE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE???
I don't think they'll be going back to Hogwarts to take NEWTs or anything, but they definitely need to go back to talk to Dumbledore's portrait. And I think we've seen enough of Hogwarts' mysteries- CoS covered whatever may be lurking in its bowels- but I have a feeling that the dragon may be guarding a high security vault *coughHepzibahSmithcough* in Gringotts. Though if the whole point of the "Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus" motto is to warn people against tickling a dragon, and the trio tickles one, I can't see why it would let them ride it considering the negative consequences the motto suggests. On a completely unrelated note, Io_sono_Emilia, I love your username! :-)
Lol, that's so great that you calculated Queen's 'It's a Kind of Magic'. It's great that so many of their song titles could be used as themes for characters or events in HP...
It is 24hours and 1 minute long...that is crazy!!! I have to read the book that Saturday before I go to work on Sunday morning. I've never listened to any of the audio tapes before though, I want to, but I like reading things myself better.
100! thats cool.
