the significance of harry having his mother's eyes so snap was reminded that there was part of lilly inside of harry and he must look after harry. I ENJOYED THE BOOK VERY MUCH.....PPL GIVE IT A REST....RESPECT THE FACT THAT JO SPENT SO LONG WRITING AND DECIDING THE ENDING....jo well done!!!
now she has enough money to write MORE books!!! *gives hopeful look*
i was thinking the same thing. before iread the book.. i firgured the deathly hallows was a place.. but now i don't know why that would be the cover.
SPEW07 - harry and voldemort reaching for the elder wand in the great hall
i was thinking the same thing spew... i couldnt figure it out for the life of me
DH was the BEST. I laughed, I cried uncontrollably, I was relieved, I was so happy with all the explanations. Jo did a wonderful job. I am so impressed. I still wish it wasn't the end ... may she could continue on ... with certain other family members??? Oh well non the less I am so thrilled that DH was so awesome. I slept very well after I finished it at 9 AM Saturday morning. Now Im rereading at a slower pace to really absorb the book and the meanings. Thanks Jo for a great 10 years.
OMG WHO BLOODY GIIVES A Y'S BAGGY FRONTS! everyone is being completely self centered and stubborn, i am talking of those who are bashing the book because they are pathetic and childish. ''oh look the book didn't turn out the way i wanted it to turn out so i will hate it and insult it because i have nothing better to do with my life!'' it is pathetic and no-one gives a dam anymore! if you hate it fine, your opinion, but bugger off and stop causing riff raff and telling people who have enjoyed the book that it is completely useless and pathetic! If you are upset because of how it ended, wallow in your pity if you must...but do not disrupt those who absolutely love the book! Thsi is JKR'S book not yours,a nd those who are hating it for the reasons above are being completely selfish. calm down everyone now, i am only annoyed because people are being completely blind as they have read the book and have missed out important things therefore do not understand. reading inbetween thr lines is important.....
Yes, so The Prince had to die you believe..well then, why didn't the author give his character some closure? All Albus ( who btw turned out to be a disgusting person) could say was 'Poor severus'?? That little chat Harry had with Voldemort was obviously not enough and naming his son after him is just corny. The author didn't even give us an insight into how the characters felt after all this. This plainly shows immaturity in her writing. Pity. You'd think fifteen years would have made her improve in her storytelling skills.
Oh I loved Deathly Hallows, it is my new favorite by far. In my opinion, I'm very glad that Snape died. Now don't go beating me up! I think Snape really needed to die; think about it. He's been in so much pain all his life with his horrible home life, and more importantly his unrequited love for Lily. I think that killing Snape was the only way to end his suffering, and it makes me feel better that he's now in a better place and, hopefully, finally at peace. (That being said, when I realized what Snape meant when he said, "Look.. at... me...", it broke my heart. What a horribly touching story.)
i completely agree with you sticky! 'ear, 'ear!
jan94: i totally agree with you!!! i loved this book so much... but yeah, tonks, moody, fred, i mean, these were major characters in the series... i would have liked some acknowledgement for their deaths... i wonder what george is going to do now... go on with weasley's wizarding wheezes with lee jordan maybe? epilogue: sigh... i wanted more. yeah, they have kids, but what are their jobs now? do they ever finish schooling? i don't imagine hermione as a house wife... i guess everyone complaining, including me, just wanted a longer book... maybe, most likely no, but maybe, jkr will miss the series so much, that she'll write about what happened after voldemort fell, and about harry's kids, and more and more... i just hope mugglenet newss won't only be about the movies now... sigh. my childhood is over.
okay IHATEDDEATHLYHALLOWS my comment got cut short before the phone rang and the mother in law wouldn't stop talking. I really was very dissappointed for quite awhile, it did seem very anti climatic. But I have had time to simmer down a bit now and like I said before she is the only one who could decide what to make the book, but on the other hand I can't wait to see rewrites of it in fanfiction for years to come. I'm sure there are many others who will also think things weren't right and do it over themselves. In all I blame myself a bit for maybe expecting too much, as a book it was rather good, enjoyable, but as the end of the epic tale people have followed for years I was a bit let down.
I cried my eyes out when I read the part where Dudley's saying bye to Harry. I bawled my eyes out when I was reading Snape's memories, Fred's death, the stone bringing back Harry's parents and all that, and Dumbledore telling Harry about his past.
btownhockey: My comment wasn't really directed at you, seeing as you only posted twice, more to Josi and the likes. Anyways, Snape's death was not irrevelant or nonsensical. And you're saying the problem is that Voldemort should have realized Draco was the owner of the Elder wand, but Voldie didn't, he didn't bother to check, he was sure of himself (this is in character, he's always been arrogant and precocious) so Snape's death made perfect sense. Voldie killed Snape to gain the Elder wand, who he believed to own it. Like you said, Snape died because of an irrational mistake, but it's very fitting for someone who's been standing on the other side of the pond all his life. It's unfair (darn, that word again, I hate it now). It's not a weak point, it's annoying, unfair, but shouldn't make the story /bad/.
there are 784 pages if you include the table of contents and the blanks at the end.
i know it mentioned soemthing about what dumbledore saw in the mirror of erised but it never said it outright... can someone tell me what he would have seen please?
Dumbledore isnt disgusting he made mistakes just like anyone else If you read the book and got t the chapter called Kings Cross you would figure out the true Albus. Its sweet that he named his kids that. And Jo is an extrodinary writter. One of the best so hop off it
8.3 million copies were sold but so far as I know that doesnt include the 12 million that were pre-ordered so it's more like 20+ million copies actually. I ordered the trunk today too...
btownhockey44: I made this post in the 100/101 mugglecast Comments section-I hear a lot of people saying that Snape's death is unnecessary. After much thought, I have to disagree. Snape HAD to die, because, otherwise, Harry would have never gotten those memories. Also, Voldemort would have never gotten the idea that he was the true master of the Elder wand, letting Harry have the advantage of suprise over him. When it comes to the memories, If Voldemort had not killed Snape, how would Snape have given them to Harry? Voldemort would have noticed if Snape had tried to "quietly" disappear, even for a second, to get those memories to Harry. And, if Harry and Snape had really met, do you think Harry would have accepted them? Remember, all the anger Harry holds for this man: He puts some Blame on Snape for Sirius' death, and views him as murderer and traitor of Dumbledore, and the Order. IT is likely that Harry would have tried to duel Snape or something of the sort, which would have accomplished nothing, would have been noticed by Voldemort, thereby giving Voldemort a chance to catch Harry unguarded. And to tell you the truth, In a way Snape DID sacrifice himself for Harry. It's obvious that he knew that the trio was there with him, yet he said nothing, gave no acknowledgment, and allowed himself to be killed by Nagini. I think that He knew that the only way to get to Harry was to appeal to Harry's better side; He knew Harry would pity his death, and so took the chance, and, through this manner, gave Harry his memories, completed his promise to Dumbledore, and died looking into the eyes inherited from the women he'd always loved. blondybabe242: The 'later in life' has not been explained so far. But the most resoudning theory for Harry's eyes is for Snape's Benefit; He wanted to look into the eyes of the women he loved before dying.
yea, thats what i concluded....but it looks likes its outside....it looks like its in the collisum
really the insults and all... hmmm if everyone that critised and insulted jo wrote a bestseller, there wldnt be the prob of kids not reading would it? everyone has their opinions but please dont try to draw attention to yorself by being disrespectful and rude, it is not nice... thank you once again jo, for all the magic and wonders for through the years, I would be one of the many to say proudly that i was in the generation that read and grew up with hp
Btownhockey who the hell do you think you are saying the likes of me ! Snapes death did not make sense! FN moron! the snake killed him not VOLY... For the LOVE OF GOD! VOLY WOULD HAVE HAD TO DISARM or DEFEAT HIM TO GAIN CONTROL!!!!! there are more holes in this fn book then swiss cheese..you friken mongo
bohemien - the fact that snape was being so adament on leaving voldemort so that he could bring the boy to him was fact enough that it was at that instant that he saw nagini so protectedfor the first time, leaving him at last to follow dumbledores orders of telling harry bout his death... It was at that time that Snape was oging to leave and find harry to tell him.
Josi, you might have the silliest reasoning of the lot. Like Sticky said, just because things didn't go the way you wanted, just because people didn't do things you wanted, just because certain characters died, doesn't mean the book sucks. P.S: I'm happy to have stumbled into a Snape sympathizing lot. Before I used to like Sirius best in a vague way, but Snape's clearly my favorite character now. JK Rowling has created a really astounding, tragic figure in the literary world. (: I can't remember the last time I felt so sorry for a book character. "Look...at...me," he whispered. The green eyes found the black...
Albus was greedy untill the end. He put on the ring for what. For Ariana? Well that was silly, covered in junxes and curses. And he gave himself up because he was going to die anyway?? "OH well, might as well go out with a bang." Did he even make it up with Aberforth? And always, doing things 'for the greater good' pffft. with that, I'm off.
absolutely incredible. It really just goes to show how big this series is. I can't see another book, ever, reaching the same heights. I cannot wait to see the total book count after they factor in the UK and all the other releases in other countries, the number will be astronomical. Actually, I really hope that after the buying frenzy of DH dies down a bit they can give us a final tally of how many books have been sold for the entire series across the world- i think that would be really interesting to see!
Snapes death was necessary as it was just pointed out by Bohemian_Moon 3
OMG! OMG! OMG! DH was far beyond any book I have ever read. JK Rowling- as a single women you have inspired readers and young writers alike. You have touched the hearts of millions around the globe, joined fans, encouraged literature and reading. The characters you have created are so rich and defined! Your conclusion to the series has surpassed all my expectations. In short- you totally rule!
Lol, I have to say thank you to btownhockey for taking the heat for me. : D
No shock there, considering that HBP sold what it did, and the series only got bigger with each installment. I'll join with those praising the book--it's quite extraordinary, although I will never, never, never forgive Jo for killing off ************.
you are a retard! memories were passed thru the eyes!!!
it does seem kinda weird that harry, who despised snape for seven years, decided to name his son's middle name after snape instead of sirius, lupin, moody, etc. and lol to the ear reference mariatc
Fantastic! And only in the first 24 hours too...wow!
Loved the book, my only wish was that there was a chapter showing how everyone got their closure and went their seperate ways... I think that would have helped me get closure as well. Other than that I really enjoyed it and feel sad that there aren't anymore!
OH MY fudge GOOOOD. ITS DAN'S BIRTHDAYYY! HOW COULD MUGGLENET FORGET?! SDFSDFSD. ANYWAYS, DAN, HAVE A HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I LOVE YOU. AND I WANNA MARRY YOU.
btownhockey44 1 I think he did it because after seing all the memories he knew that Snape really wasnt bad n He loved him. I thought that was really sweet
We don't know James' or Lily's middle names; they could've been named after Sirius, Lupin, or Moody. (Lily's being in female form, of course.)
I surprised Harry wasn't a little repulsed/shocked at Snape's love for his mother. Hm.
wasn't it said that we will find out why some people become ghosts and others do not.... maybe i missed it but was it there?
yeah why haven't mugglenet posted up dan's birthday yet? i have already wished him a happy birthday but i will do it again! :D HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAN! ONE DAY OUR FATES WILL ENTWINE AND JOIN......
Second day of moruning is tough. Like many said, MN is our only connection for a while. I can't believe it's over. It really is sad. Bad thing is people who never read the series don't understand how hard and painful it is. We're the HP generation and we're proud, but it's not easy to understand. We'll read them to our kids and make them dream and make theories, and grow in many ways and that we'll make us complete. I cannot thank JK enough.
absolutely amazing...the way the book allowed us to reflect on this magnificent adventure throughout our way to its end was breathtaking. thank you jo for allowing us to accompany you and harry on this journey.
Kadaj, Albus wasn't greedy, he was fatally flawed and he **knew** it. Otherwise, he would have taken on MOM instead of heading up Hogwarts. He fought the burning desire for mastery over death, just as Ron and Harry did in their own ways. Think of it as a LOTR thing -- such power brings out the worst in otherwise good people. The epilogue implies that HP did finally forgive Albus, ending his hero worship of the man and seeing him as imperfect but good at heart. Hence, he healed. Hence, he named one of his children Albus.
for the good people of the world if you like the chapter of Snape and Lily go to youtube and find snape in my immortal... you will cry
First off, Amazing book. Thank you J.K. for the last ten years of memories. Second off, To all who hate the book because your character died, and your no longer an HP fanatic because of this, your selfish hypocrites who should never be called an actual HP fan. Thirdly, To all those who are in mourning that this is the end, Harry Potter will only be gone when none here are loyal to him. And Finally, I want more books, Whether about the maruaders, the adult trio, the next generation, Teddy Lupin, Snape's memoirs, or just an encylopedia. Please Rowling, Lol.
I think you might become ghosts by choosing like the way Harry choose after he died and met Dumby at King's Cross. Anyways, I'm tired of conversation, so yeah, bye everyone. Book 7's my favorite, Rowling rocks, yadda yadda. (:
Kadaj: If I loved Dumbledore before, I love him even more now. When we are first introduced to Dumbledore, he is, by all means, an almost saintly character: Defending the Muggles and other Wizards and/or magical creatures that were unaccounted for and in a few ways excluded from the rest of society. But as the books grew, I loved how Dumbledore slowly became more Human. Because believe it or not, Kadaj, Dumbledore WAS human. He made mistakes, had doubts, worries, that as he often said (after apologizing), tended to be larger and deadlier than the average wizard, for he was indeed cleverer than most. When it comes to Dumbledore being young, there is no way I can hate him for the mistakes he made. He was young, knew he was brilliant, knew he had the potential to do great things, but was frustrated by a series of events that were conflicting him to be what he wanted to be. Dumbledore loved his family, but his feelings of being pushed down, of being lessened by his unwanted responsibilities blinded him. The way he feels is actually quite normal: How many times have you felt anger and resentment towards your parents because You felt that certain responsibilities were unfair, despite how imporatant they may really be? When Albus put ont he Ring, he specifically says that he wanted, momentarily, to see his parents and sister again, to apologize for his mistakes. The thought of being able to see them again, despite knowing the curses on the horcrux and the great possibility of death is as kin as Harry accepting Voldemort's possesion and the possibility of Death just 'to see Sirius again'. And Dumbledore knew that he'd have to let Severus kill him if Harry's true destiny was to be carried out.
I just wanna say thanks JO for bring Harry Potter into our lives and im hopin their will be more!!!
Did she really have to kill Tonks and Lupin???
no, I think she just did not want to write after the 4th book, she has all this money and she never realy felt the books would take on thier own life. and in was consuming her so she did all she could do to make sure she did not have to write another book
