TWNJ I don't think fawkes is dead. He left the school when Dumbledore died, at the end of book 6.

Posted by caytie67 Jul 23rd 2007

awesome book JKR... I havent finished mine and havent peeked in the back to see the ending lol... Although tempted... Also saw the 5th movie... It was awesome...

Posted by marinacule Jul 23rd 2007

it took me awhile to figure out what happened when harry was talking to voldemort i found that VERY confusing i had to read it again anyone else?

Posted by TWNJ Jul 23rd 2007

we all must take a minute to realise that, if jk had killed harry in the end or made neville the chosen one or any of the other crazed fan ideas that people so desperatly want and, clearly, even now, by the sounds of their comments, should have been used as the ending, then everyone would still be saying the same thing. in fact even more people would be giving negative reveiws because harry died or it wasn't him that killed voldemort. so i think the ending that was written was the best, most probable and most assuring end to the book.

Posted by jkmonkey28 Jul 23rd 2007

I agree that Snape was the biggest loss, I cried from the moment I knew Voldemort was intending for him to die to the end of the book. We always knew there was more to him than was let on, but just how much only made his death even sadder. I wish his end were different too, but alas I am not JKR otherwise I would be drowning in money right now instead of debt. Oh well.

Can someone explain to me how Mrs. Weasley killed bellatrix when Sirius, Kingsley and most likely a bunch of other wizards/witches could not?

Posted by TWNJ Jul 23rd 2007

i think im now entering the negative side to my after shock because now i do doubt the ending. i still think was probably better than anything else she could have written but i think it was a roo rushed and not everything was explained......great -_-

Posted by HP_reader Jul 23rd 2007

omg thats amazing! and thats only the US!

Posted by pmerrill6565 Jul 23rd 2007

fenix1090 - I think Mrs. Weasley was the one that could because she was a mother fighting for her children not for herself.

Posted by TreRadical Jul 23rd 2007

i heard it sold 20 million worldwide. WOW.

Posted by TWNJ Jul 23rd 2007

come to think of it, the whole lily/snape thing is like something stright out of a fanfic....

Posted by jkmonkey28 Jul 23rd 2007

To answer the question of Mrs. Weasley defeating Bellatrix, that is simple. Never mess with a mothers child. When it comes to a mother and child extrodinary things can be done. My house was burning down 2 years ago with myself and my 3 kids trapped in the bedrooms. I am not strong by any means but I busted the whole window frame out to get my babies out, if I hadn't we all would have been dead. When your child is in danger you can do a lot that may not have been otherwise possible. Hope that helps.

jeez, i leave for like an hour and this went from a level-headed discussion about points in the book to a totally uncivilized, name calling fest. also, i think we should probably take note that there is actually a thing for our thoughts on DH now, so this should be left for comments about the 8.3M copies sold in the USA. oh, and for all the people that think that Snape transported his memories through harry's eyes, your wrong. it clearly says in the book (not an actual quote) something like this: "there was something silvery, not blood, coming from snape. harry conjured a goblet, and when the last had been gathered, ran up to the headmaster's office, got past the gargoyle, and poured the goblet into the pensieve and entered." and thats where he saw all the memories of snape and lily. just thought id clear that up.

Posted by REMiiSAHMAZiNGx4 Jul 23rd 2007

TWNJ i agree with you it wouldve been so amazing if like snape used the reserecton stone to tell lily how he really feeled about her that wouldve been so sad but it wouldve made him dieing a little easyer for me even though i despised him up intill the chapter of his memories. i hope she ends up forgiving him eventually for calling her a mudbood he was just a stupid boy in love that was under peer pressure :) it happens all the time

Posted by albus_snape_potter Jul 23rd 2007

snape didnt die alone harry staid with him.....green eyes found the black, but after a second, something in the depths of the dark pair seemed to vanish, leaving them fixed blank and empty. the hand holding harry thudded to the floor and snape moved no more. and voldermort to nagini with him so snape didnt get eaten and in ootp snape was tring to teach harry occulemncy to close his mind snape was a master of legienmency (may have spelled that wrong) and occulemency.so snape could read others thoughtssnape turned on vold because he refused to spare his only true love lily. im also verry sad about the way snape dies but i feel it was necassary because i dont think he would have been regarded has much of a hero as he was with his death

Posted by trizle12 Jul 23rd 2007

it was amazing the best of them all

Posted by TWNJ Jul 23rd 2007

albus_snape_potter i agree. some one aske about that and i said that he was looking into harry's eyes to see lily's one last time. or thats what i think anyway.

Posted by flowerpower20 Jul 23rd 2007

the book was great. but just why Tonks and Lupin!? how sad...that disapointd me and the death of moody and fred. Overall the book was great i can just imagine the Deathly Hallows movie. It all came together the story so clear and inderstandable. i recall myself satisfied with book #7

Posted by albus_snape_potter Jul 23rd 2007

i think that was the point of lilys eyes so many people loved her harry having lilys eyes helped with getting the memory from slughorn i think that was also a reason that snape had a time with trying to teach harry occulemency that and he was afraid harry would see to much about him and lily

Posted by TWNJ Jul 23rd 2007

flowerpower20 yeh, thoes deaths, particularly tonks and lupin were a bit unessessary. i mean if it had told us about how he and ginny had raised him or something then it would have been better but its just pointless. and fred was killed probably so that harry ahd something fresh to want revenge for.

Posted by candygrl Jul 23rd 2007

omg..... reading these comment boards almost made me cry again...... wowowow. I cannot believe that it is over. Harry Potter has been SUCH a big part of my life for years and years. Deathly Hallows was truly AMAZING. It was the most amazing way to end an amazing series. I am definitely not ever going to forget Harry Potter, and definitely am going to be passing it down to my children, and their children, and their children...... heh. mmm..... there was actually some stuff, however, that I was really really disappointed about cuz Jo DIDN'T add it in. :( ALL of the characters have been soo important to all of us, and I was sad that she only had the trio and Ginny and Neville in the epilogue. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO EVERYONE ELSE!!!!!

Posted by my3day Jul 23rd 2007

I think this is easily JK's best work yet (and that's saying something since I think all of the books are great). I didn't even feel the sadness I was expecting at the end...I felt a sense of closure. I was crying so hard right after Harry came back from the Pensieve and especially when he turned the stone. I burst out cheering when an unexpected brother came back. I laughed so hard when Molly yelled at Bell. The epilogue seemed to be something that was added as an afterthought but I really didn't mind it all that much. I know JK is done writing, but I would love to see another book that is basically an epilogue in and of itself. It might not really fit in with the series but I also think that a lot of the HP fans would enjoy knowing what has happened between the end of the LAST BATTLE and Albus Potter leaving for Hogwarts. My only real complaints are these (CONTAIN SPOILERS SO DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW) 1) Did Ron, Hermione, and Harry actually graduate? Where they awarded honorary diplomas? 2) Why didn't Ron or Bill name a child Fred in his memory? Perhaps George would have been better suited to do that since he was a twin...but they didn't even mention him (something that could be addressed inthe above "epilogue book")

Posted by LumosSara Jul 23rd 2007

This book had a fun beginning but the ending was one of the greatest disappointments of my life. It took far too long to get to the point and it seemed as if J. K. Rowling got a little lazy and didn't keep all of her promises when it came to answering many questions. Too many loose-ends and there should not have been so many characters introduced in the last book of the series. However, I can't say I was completely surprised. I would get lazy too if I had to write 7 books. All is NOT well.

Posted by candygrl Jul 23rd 2007

yeah I really wanted to know what happened with George. :( Fred's death was definitely the saddest one for me, because he was just the most amazing person. He even died laughing. :'( I don't know how George would even live without his twin..... but, wow. I want to know what he was like afterwards.... and what happened with Weasley's Wizard Wheezes....... lol isn't it funny how, after 4100 (exactly... i added them ;D) we're still desperate for more?!

Posted by PhoenixSong089 Jul 23rd 2007

i thought the book was brilliant!! although, i quite agree that i would have liked to know more information. for example: harry, ron, hermione, and ginny's professions. what george has done with his life whether he's married. who malfoy is married to. luna and what she's up to. but these facts are just my curiosity and have nothing what-so-ever to do with the book and how wonderful it was. honestly, i think the ending was perfect!!! i'm so sad that i won't be able to feel that mounting excitement for another new harry potter book, but for the next few years, we still have the movies! i'm sad that fred had to die, and i would love to ask jkr why she picked him. now, i have to read books 1 through 7!

Posted by 42zang Jul 23rd 2007

hey ppl...TODAY IS DANIELS 18TH BDAY!!! y havent they put it up yet!! they do for every other character in the books and movies...HOW COULD THEY LET DANIEL RADCLIFFE'S SLIP???? good book tho

Posted by itsfun2bbrunette Jul 23rd 2007

oh dear it was amazing. i'm not the biggest fan of epilogues. but i will admit that i got teary when he called his son albus serverus. i never had faith in snape but i got ever other prediction that i had true. so i guess i'll say i'm happy! :] BEST ONE YET!

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jul 23rd 2007

The best part of Josi ran down his AUNT'S leg. Think about it. :-) Josi, how does it feel knowing that you'll never amount to anything?

Posted by candygrl Jul 23rd 2007

I was really disappointed that pretty much every theory the fans had came true. I almost wish we hadnt been so obsessed, cuz then alot of it would have been more surprising...... *sigh* I thought the epilogue was kinda wayy too cheesy, but the second time i read it I felt better about it *yay*

Posted by LumosSara Jul 23rd 2007

I would also like to ask what J. K. got out of killing Remus and Tonks.... I can understand one of the Weasley's I mean they're twins anyways so you'll still have the other one and most of the other deaths were necessary but killing those two and leaving they're child without parents.... it seems like she couldn't bring herself to kill any of her main characters so she decided to take out the supporting characters. I would also like to add how this book was supposedly to be an emotional roller coaster and not many characters would make it out in the end but it seems to me that there were more characters by the end of the book to begin with and I can assure I had no change in my emotions after the last 1/2 of the book. I believe we have been led astray.

Posted by TheProfessor31 Jul 23rd 2007

Wow- I've been trying to read what others have written, but I can't keep up. Letsee... The artwork on the US edition was rather disappointing, but we knew that before we bought the book. Dursley's "I don't think you're a waste of space" was adorable. Nice to close of that chapter of HP's life on a happy note. Mad-eye's death was terrible, b/c you see him as so strong. It's like, at that point, everyone's fair game. Dumbledore's will cracked me up "...in hope that he will remember me when he uses it...". Kreacher. "to think I used to fantasize about cutting his head off..." haha. Sometimes HP's stupidity annoyed me to death (ie using Voldemort's name when he KNEW it was taboo). I loved that there was this silver doe patronus we couldn't figure out (or at least I couldn't... lovely.) I loved meeting Aberforth and learning dumbledore's history. And I LOVED it when they were back at hogwarts. Harry's reaction "he spat at you" and Mcgonagall's "how very gallant of you"...later "we teachers are rather good at magic"... the battle scenes... and last but not least, Snape's dying act of loyalty. ahhhhhh. It was gut-wrenching when HP realized what he had to do, and comming to terms with death... then the whole "i open at the close" clue... the best part of the whole book. Enjoyed Dumbledore's "of course its happening inside your head, but why on earth should that mean it isn't real?" Naturally there were boring parts, annoying parts, the confusion of the hallows vs. horcruxes and the significance, the epilogue left me wanting (but oddly it allowed me to end w/ a small-and very tired-smile). Overall, I would have been quite happy to wait for JK to write me a 5,000 pg book, but given what it was, I was QUITE content. I LOVE the way she manages to connect so many stories, details, etc through all 7 books (yeah, she may have missed some). Glorious. Now, what will I do with the rest of my life?

OK you guys are all gonna have to bear with me here. I have been reading these comments..and frankly its kind of dissapointing. I feel that as HP fans, we are obligated to say our own thoughts and opinions as you guys have. However, it has surpassed the barrier beyond which SOME of you have become plain old spiteful towards those who disagree with you. There is also some things i feel i need to ask and other comments: Has anyone else read the US edition, and noticed that, epilogue and all, it is only 759 pages long? What about the cover now...it seems so...wrong i guess is the word for it. It does not fit in with what the book says, but w/e. Also, who was the squib who "performed magic later in life"? Next, Ariana Dumbledore...what did those muggles do to her and what did she become then...i was a little confused there. Now, about Snape having a love for Harry...nope didnt happen. Never did he love Harry. He loved Lily and protected Harry only on Dumbledores orders, and yes Snape had to die. I personally feel that Snape did know Harry was there, and did it for him...but if Snape knew, why didn't You-Know -Who? Next, Harry says why he named his child Albus Severus Potter...they were named after two headmasters, and the Slytherin one was one of the bravest men Harry knew. Also, Snape turned on Voldemort not because he didn't spare Lily, whoever said that above. He turned on Voldemort in hope that he WOULD spare her...Dumbledore sought to help with his need to trust and make good. And, I felt as if Harry never really died. He just lost the piece of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named' s soul. ok, now another question...how did Mr. Weasley's patronous find the trio in Grimmauld Place, and how did Lupin know they were there too...they were hidden and no one knew they were there. Now, i have to say that the criticizing has got to stop. As i said b4, it went to far. Imagine if JK would see this right now...she'd be ashamed at how HP was driving you guys apart...

Posted by kitten47 Jul 23rd 2007

I agree that some questions were not answered but, on the whole, I loved it! The epilogue disappointed me at first. However, after reflection, two things occured to me: first, I remembered that J.K. wrote the ending quite some time ago; and secondly, perhaps the point of the epilogue was simply to show that Harry had gotten the one thing he had always want- a family (let us all remember what he saw in the Mirror of Erised) and somewhat of a normal life. One question though- why was the book 759 pages when it was listed at 784?

Posted by Taddogg Jul 23rd 2007

Deathly Hallows was a great finale to a great series. I particularly enjoyed "The Prince's Tale" and "King's Cross" chapters....it was great to hear Dumbledore actually talk straight for a change (rather than in half-truths and carefully chosen words). It was a bit of a bloodbath, but I kind of expected that. I got a bit weepy more than once. The epilogue was a let-down....the future is best left to the reader's imagination, in my opinion.

Posted by sectumsempra918 Jul 23rd 2007

CONTINUED FROM ABOVE: ok my last comment was long, and i ran out of space for what i wanted to say...i agree with TheProfessor and the Dumbledore bit was funny. Anyway, i realized that the ending of my comment came out wrong and i meant she would be ashamed of those of you who used this to psst each other off and not talk about HP. Anyway, i'm u will all be jumping up my butt now, but w/e. Anyway, i feel that JK owes me 25 more pages b/e it wasn't 784..oh well still loved it....SECTUMSEMPRA ~$^$~

Posted by albus_snape_potter Jul 23rd 2007

maybe with the deaths of lupin and tonks she was hoping to give harry back some resemblence to what he had with sirius, it would seem to give them a bond of having the same thing happen to each of them. also if anyone else noticed all of the makers of the maruders map died. she put the best friends back together again.

Posted by btownhockey44 Jul 23rd 2007

ok, i kinda rushed through the book, and then lent it to my brother, so I cant look this up, but if anyone can help me it wuold be greatly appreciated: did hagrid live or die?

Posted by kristenk24 Jul 23rd 2007

hagrid lived

Posted by pocketchange Jul 23rd 2007

I loved it... I could NOT put it down. Firstly, I don't care much about certain things that she promised to say... like honestly who cares about what their professions are? it is an amazing piece of literature! Secondly, the saddest part by far for me was realizing that Snape told Harry to look at him when he was dying so that he could see Lily... I cry just thinking about it. I was not disappointed in the least, I really thought it was a great book. I loved Ron in this book because all of his weaknesses and strengths were adressed. One problem I had was whether in the end she was trying to say that Harry was human or superhuman...? He survives death, but on the other hand he grows up to have just an average kind of lifestyle. Does that mean that even if you are superhuman all people want is to be human? Maybe it means that everything is just a fight for normalcy... hm. Well I thought it was very thought provoking and I'm glad I can see it all as one big concluded book!

Posted by albus_snape_potter Jul 23rd 2007

hagrid lived.....in the end harry reminds albus severus not to forget his tea time with hagrid on firday

Posted by kristenk24 Jul 23rd 2007

although there were a few times that i thought he was a goner

Posted by TheProfessor31 Jul 23rd 2007

another couple of thoughts... So nice to see some of the characters (Neville, Luna, and Ron esp) come into their own in sticky spots. They started to in the Hall of Prophecies, but in this one, someone other than Harry got to do some major stuff. Go Neville!!! A true Gryffindor, yess! i do agree that the deaths of the characters we know during the fight needed detail, in my first reading I completely missed that Tonks was killed. When Harry was thinking about the ppl who'd died, I had to go back and re-read. Wanted Teddy to live w/ his godfather, but as it turns out, all the characters have a bunch of children of their own. We finally "get" snape, dumbledore, and some of the others. okok. I'm done for now.

Posted by gandalfxj9 Jul 23rd 2007

Wow, HP7 became the fastest selling book of all time...WHAT A SURPRISE LOL.

Posted by candygrl Jul 23rd 2007

lol, Teddy Tonks may just be the next Harry Potter. >.

Posted by greekgator Jul 23rd 2007

wow! If any book ever tops this, the world be amazed

Posted by albus_snape_potter Jul 23rd 2007

not that he was superhuman just that he had powers that vold had not...love,compassion,fri ends and harry overcame volds greatest fear...death. when harry "died" it was voldermorts soul that died not harrys. harry was willing to die to save everyone at hogwarts, voldermort would never had done that

Posted by dashaleb Jul 23rd 2007

loved the special edition. bought two ofthem

Posted by wildnose94 Jul 23rd 2007

i think that deathly hallows was the best book in the whole world. i'm not surprised that it sold so much!
