i loved this book got it the day it came out. and finished it in one n' a half days. :)

Well... it wasn't as good as i expected it to be... for me, the beginning was the best then it went downhill, stayed there, got up a little then plummeted to rock bottom. I'm really upset to say that Deathly Hallows just didn't cut it for me... still, well done Jo for all of the other amazing books and that i'll sorely miss Harry and everyone else! *cries*

****SPOILER WARNINGS*****This book will not be my favorite - OotP and PoA still hold that position. though I did enjoy it overall. That said I loved the stories of Snape (especially his final words - genius), Neville, Ron, and Kreacher. I cried hardest at Dobby. I loved the scene where Ron comes back and where he finally hits Malfoy. I loved the first 5 or 6 chapters as she begins the book w/ a bang and it continues thru the wedding. I thought the camping part was a bit long, but I was reading in the early morning hours. I felt the final final battle in the great hall between Harry and Voldemort was almost anticlimatic and what was w/ Mrs. Weasley cursing? I was really disappointed like most in the epilogue and found it really weak and unsatisfying. I wanted to know what happened in the wizarding world, did they pass new more lenient legislation for elves, what happened to Poor George and the business, what about Umbridge (she didn't get her comeuppance - and couldn't believe she got even nastier than before), what did James, Lily, Harry Ron and hermoine do for work, what happened to McGonagal(sp?), Hagrid, and Luna. So many questions left unanswered. I thought the Lovegood and Kings Cross Chapters odd. She seemed to be using the same phrases over and over again - don't know if that was intentional, but got annoying at 2:30 in the am. Overall I can't believe it is over. I've started my re-read already and will sorely miss this wonderful world and the wonderful characters JK created for us.

i have to say there were times i had to stop reading .....an pull myself together ( crying ) , i admit i had read one of the spoilers before hand ... that had said ron died , an well it also said alot of other stuff that wasn t true ether . i kept expecting ............ oh s_ _ _ this is it ! then it didn t happen ........ sigh ........ big GRIN i hated that fred died ...... in a way i was glad tonks an lupin went together ....... an ted i m sure was never left unwanted . i still sit here with sooooo many questions . questions i thought ... we were supost to get answered ................. so many things i wish i could ask .... but i think it s also part of me that s just wanting it to go on .

Posted by hARRyliVEs4EveR Jul 24th 2007

Amazing!! i think apart from oOtp this is the best book yet. although there are alot of unanswered questions as many other fans has pointed out. i was not at all happy with the epilogue. i felt that she could have told us more about the characters and let us know about the other people that we have all grown to love just as much as the trio. jk out did herself with this book. and all i have to say is thank god snape was good. and thank you jk for letting harry live and giving us a new world and look about the word, magic!!!!

its awsome init

Posted by horcurxes8 Jul 24th 2007

are there not 8 horcruxes?? (btw i know my name is horCURxes8 - spelt wrong) voldemort harr y nagini hufflepuff cup slytherins locket ravenclaws diadem marvolos ring riddles diary am i right? or did voldemort originally create 7 and accidently make 8 with harry?

Posted by sectumsempra918 Jul 24th 2007

you are right about the horcruxes. He made the 7, (including him), and accidentally made Harry one. That does make 8...

Posted by L0uisa Jul 24th 2007

The epilogue wasn't that exciting, but I thought it was great nevertheless. I think it added an element of moral seriousness to the whole series. By focusing on family, children, and friendship, Rowling was making a statement about what is really important in life. (What a contrast. Remember how Harry started out, a lonely orphan.) I think it's great that Rowling didn't focus on the characters' careers because doing so would have been putting too much of an emphasis on that sort of achievement. I'm 26 now. I don't know if I would be saying this if I was 10 years younger. Also... I thought the book was great!! The relationship between Snape and Lily was positively haunting.

Posted by ADumbly Jul 24th 2007

Someone before had mentioned that Wormtail killed himself by choking himself with the silver hand that Voldemort game him in the cemetary in GoF. I think that Voldemort had put in a precaution that if Wormtail ever betrayed him the hand would turn on ol' Wormy. I don't think Wormtail killed himself, Voldemort killed Wormtail. All we heard is that Voldy was a highly skilled Legilimens so maybe he used it on Wormtail and saw Harry sparing his life in PoA and knew he was indebted to Harry for sparing his life? just a thought.

wow thats alot of books to be sold... and still people are buying.. my friend is looking to buy one on the first because of the way his income is...

Posted by LovinLuna88 Jul 24th 2007

Yeah Harry and JKR.......Way To Be

Posted by ginagirlgfh Jul 24th 2007

OMG!!! WOW!!!! best book ever i cried at the end b/c the series was over but there is still a lot of questions that hasnt been answeredand ever time i think of one question another one pops into my head like what happened to ted tonks if harry was his godfather then ted would be raised by him right? or what happened to the dursleys? or did harry ron or hermione went bsck to hogwarts to take there newts? what is going to happen to weasley wizard wheeze with fred gone? and so many more questions. i thought they said that an adult that wasnt able to do magic before. i wish jo would right another book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by LovinLuna88 Jul 24th 2007

BTW, Voldemort himself was NOT a horcrux, he was just himself. He did make 7 (one acidentally, but 7 nonetheless). His soul was in 8 parts: 7 horcruxes and his body

Posted by YJK_91 Jul 24th 2007

The all the HP series were awsome but it was the last and the best 7th book i hope J.K Rowling who share the same intial as me :) continues to write more books and perhaps continue the story?? with harry's son? and i would like to know more about what happen to the rest of the characters in the book not just the 6 characters in the epilogue. LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER

JK Rowling, thank you for such an awesome and fantastic Harry Potter series!! I'm now 53 years old and yes, I'm a Potterhead. Even my husband knows to leave me alone when reading a Harry Potter book. I have enormously enjoyed Harry's journey since the first book was released. You are truly a writer for all ages. Bless you!!

I just finished reading it 50 minutes ago. I went to this site and jkr's site - i just had to, for "closure". I was glad she put in harry 19 years later or i would have just wondered like mad whatever happened to him after the war was over. I agree in wondering what was dudley's worst memory. and other things... i agree that it feel like leaving one's childhood behind or parting with a longtime friend. snape LOVES lily?!! that was really...a frisbee to the head. i loved this book but i also didn't like some parts. some people were too soft in the end: dudley, petunia, kreacher, draco. jkr did a good job, no doubt, i totally applaud her and respect her and admire her, but i just don't like Du, P, K, and Dr being a (bit) nicer to harry in the end. should have been like vernon who kept his stand on still not liking harry. whatever happened to dudley, petunia, and vernon. they're not important but i just wanted to know. i think the last chapter could have been a lot longer to say whatever happened to all of them, but at the same time, if jkr thinks it was best that way then it probably is. fantastic fantastic. i spent 3 days reading it, late afternoon to middle of the night shifts glued to the book,i just had to know. "the journey is more valued than the destination" i just had to speedread to get the whole story. thank goodness for these books, especially books 1-4 which entertained me while i was living under a rock. fantastic.

Worst Book Of The Series. I hated it. Check out my LJ for my full review: http://draconisangelus.li vejournal.com

Posted by thechelsness Jul 24th 2007

I can't believe it. I though reading serious's death made me cry. I bawled like a baby when Dobby died and almost lost it when Snape died. He was my favorite, I knew he was good.

Posted by PPMKatie Jul 25th 2007

The first read was quick. I just needed to know what happened. The second settled it in my mind. This is the best book of the series. I still haven't accepted the deaths during the Battle at Hogwarts. If I start thinking about it, my mind freezes. I've cried, but not mourned. The earlier deaths have been processed, and sobbed over. And the death of a Gryffindor in disguise, my mind keeps returning to it. As much as I know they'd hate the attention, they're getting kudos and hugs and praise galore. My main problem is deciding what everyone's doing with themselves. Thank Merlin Jo's going to bring out an encyclopedia!! Until then, I'll leave it to the fan-ficcers. Brilliance Jo!!!! Thank you so much!!!!! :')

Hi Hi... i happen to be weasleyredhead21 but i cant get my sister's name to "sign off".....anyone know how to do that?? **RaineDrop-- you hated it??? really... thats shocking considering the book was flippin amazing. :]] i love how harry potter sold so many... that just rocks. i loved DH so much. and we must thank jo for all her amazing work all these years. she is genius... its true.

Posted by waltersk Jul 25th 2007

I must have missed it, I read so fast, but where does it talk about the "one who did magic later in life?" Loved the book. I loved the ending, even though some people think it is sappy. My favorite part is when Harry buries Dobby. I think he is redirected on the correct path and does his "duty."

Posted by mad_j Jul 25th 2007

You know, she has left a much space for herself. I mean how many new characters have you seen in so-brutally-shorted epilogue? How many children, which may have maby not so scarry but such as interesting life? And they all are moving stright to Hogwarts!

Posted by BriteIs Jul 25th 2007

I must say I liked that book, but I didn't love it. It was too slow in the beginning, and then there was no update on the other characters after the final battle. I just read about the interview she gave to NBC. McGonagel to old to be Head Mistress? Are you kidding? How old was Dumbledore? For shame!! I think that Stan Shunpike is the one who displayed magic at an older age. Remember when he first meets Harry, he physically picks up Harry's trunk instead of using a wand to carry it onto the Knight Bus. Just a guess, but it's the best guess unless she cut it out.

Posted by sweetchick87 Jul 25th 2007

Great news for J.k bad news for us muggles no more books!

Posted by southernbelle Jul 25th 2007

Absolutely loved book 7, am going to re-read it asap! Am I the only person who thought that the gum wrappers that Neville's mother passed to him at St. Mungo's were going to be important in later books? That was my only disapointment....tho the epilogue left me wanting more info.

Posted by No1fredandgeorgefan Jul 25th 2007

The book was amazing, Was good to have Percy come back though i was not prepared for the death of Fred. but i'm a little confused as to who Victorie is.

Posted by angelaxox27 Jul 25th 2007

it was great! im reading it all over again!

Posted by IamtheSilverDoe Jul 25th 2007

i don't even know where to begin with all of this. i feel as though my get-away is over, and my world well once again be a muggle mess. but the book is def one of my favorites its right after PoA. Fred, Lupin, Dobby...i'm going to miss you RIP! WHAT IS THIS WITH/WIZARD WHO DOES MAGIC LATER IN LIFE ALL ABOUT?! EVERYONE IS COMMENTING ON IT. I MUST HAVE SKIPPED SOMETHING, WHERE IS IT? CAN ANYONE HELP? The epilouge could have been better i agree. So much to say...so little time.

Posted by mrollivander Jul 26th 2007

Sigh. I cant believe its over. Its like my childhood is over now. I liked the entire book (even the epilogue, although yes she could have spilled more) and thought it was really deep, and sad for Snape. Oh, and I guess I didnt get the memo that someone was supposed to get magic later in life...ehh. With all the action it will make a great movie! Well I hope Jo writes more in this world not neccisarily the same characters but i cant get enough of the world she created. DH in my opinion was the worst book in the series, dont get me wrong it was amazing but my favorite parts of the books were day to day life at Hogwarts thats what i relished in, and there was none here. Ihave already written too much so I'll stop.

Posted by mousenmdcat Jul 26th 2007

To all the people saying "who was supposed to do magic?" Though I have not checked, I do not recall JKR saying anyone was supposed to DO magic late in life, just that someone would manage it! And that person was none other than Dudley Dursley. He thanked Harry for saving his life and told him he wasn't a waste of space. He managed to accept that Harry had magical power. Other than that, I nearly cursed my boyfriend when I read Snape's memory-I SO wanted him to be bad! Epiloge was a little weak, but I am glad Harry got his happily ever after, though I wish she had gone with my idea and had Ginny have fraternal twins, Jamie and Evan :). I think Victorie was Bill and Fleur's daughter. And Lupin and Tonk's son was raised by his grandmother, of course! We'll find out any more holes when the encycolpedia comes out!

Posted by Kreacher_Crookshanks Jul 26th 2007

Awesome!!! So glad I contributed to it!!!!

Posted by youknowpoo2 Jul 26th 2007

o.k....I was most deeply saddened at the "almost" death of Hagrid!! As close as the trio was to him...I think it would have been devistating!! Personally, I would LOVE to see Fred remain at Hogwarts as a ghost ...maybe like an impish prefect or a jokester. R.I.P. Snape! (Professor Snape).

Posted by xdeanna Jul 26th 2007

Goodness - it's selling like the Bible! Oohhh, that was some really terrible blasphemy..

Posted by Hecro Jul 27th 2007

IS ANY1 HERE FROM THE OTHER COMMENTS FROM THE BOOK?

Posted by arrrgh_its_over Jul 27th 2007

It was a truly excellent book! Not sure if its the best but its very unpredictable, really kept me on my toes! As soon as you relax into the atmosphere, each time its distrupted by a catastrophe of some sort! Just this impending feeling of Voldemort and the Death Eaters hot on the trio's trail, anything was possible. Towards the end I cried like a baby! But the last fight had me quibbling with anticipation, and hilarity at Mrs. Weasley!! The epilogue I felt was satisfactory, but it left me wanting to know more, like where were the rest of the characters now? Had the younger ones also got married and had children? And where had Ted Lupin grown up without his parents? Also I thought there was a missed oportunity for a funeral scene paying respects to the deceased beforehand. Plus when they make the movie it's going to have to be a 15 certificate methinks because of all the death and whatnot. And it should be awfully difficult to adapt, it being so complex with every bit of information being important! I just hope they do it justice!
