Dobby was the most amazing and best house elf ever!!!!!!!!
I absolutely loved it, and if you really think about it she ended the story but she kinda left it a little open, she definately could fit another book in there if she wanted to, and I hope with all my might that she will one day. Book seven and three quarters perhaps. I'll always keep hope, but for now I'm satisfied. Thank you JKR! You have brought magic into my life.
I'm not surprised it sold so many copies. I mean, you have all the fans who have been fans for ages, and then, of course, you have all the new fans who have joined since the last book was released. And like other people said, this book was really awesome. :)
The saddest part for me was when Harry and Hermione went to Godric's Hollow and visited his parents grave. Just the fact that Harry could not hold back his tears made me burst out crying. An equally sad moment was in the Great Hall where the Weasley's were gathered around Fred and Remus and Tonks and Harry realizes that so many have sacraficed their lives for him. Poor Teddy, not having parents. Its kinda fitting that Harry is his godfather becauze he also lost his parents in the war. I wasn't very fond of the epilogue, but I do enjoy that one of Harry's boys hold the name of his most hated teacher, Snape, who I love now! I really wish we knew what James and Lily's professions were unless I missed it. All in all it was great! I loved it! Got it at 12:01 and finished it in 1 day so now i'm back for round 2!!!
yess!!! GO JO!!!!! i was really wondering what this number was..thanks mugglenet....i wonder how much it was worldwide...
I can't believe it's over... I would like to read it again and again... All my thoughts are around this book... it was amazing! Even though there are lots of questions and I think all we can do is try to answer them according to our imagination! At least this is what I do... As I imagine Ron&Hermione and Ginny&Harry are neighbours ,maybe they live at the Burrow and the children grew up together so they are more than relatives, they are as good friends as their parents are... And stuff like this. The most important thing is: "All was well" :) And this makes me happy. :)
That's awesome to hear! The book was amazing so I'm glad it sold a lot.
Now it is time for my emotional recount of the series and its impact on my life... The first time I ever discovered online forums and chat rooms is because of Harry Potter. I remember making so many friends and having such fun times in the fandom. Reading Harry Potter also inspired me to start writing, and I entered many writing contests and won many awards, which is something I am so proud of and would have never happened if it weren't for Jo and her characters. While reading this last book, I was very emotionally involved but I didn't cry until the end. That's when I realized, this is the last time I will ever finish a new adventure, and the last time I will have attended a midnight release party so I can stay up all night discovering new secrets about Harry's world. I started Harry Potter when I was 8 and now I am nearly 16. I have spent half my life with these books and I just don't want to believe it's over. Thank you, Jo. Thank you, all of the friends I have made because of these books. Thank you to all of the fandom for creating all these memories for me.... I've read so many other series and none have touched me like this one. PS- thank you to anyone who took the time to read this sappy recount :)
i cried at neville and his loyalty to harry. he thought harry was dead so tried to kill nagini like hary asked him to do. he stood up to voldemort, screamed at him for harry. that made me cry a lot, neville was so brave
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Jo has done her best job yet on this one, finished it last night. All I can say is WOW! I cried, laughed, went into shock, came out of it and shouted scaring everyone in the house, who of course came running laughing I said can't tell ya. :)
Yay for JK! Yay for all of us who've spread the love of HP so much that the sales have been huge! I don't think it could have happened to a nicer, more down to earth person. Congrats JK!
hey sticky.....thanks for answering the question about lily's eyes. i kinda thought that was it but wasn't quite sure. i loved the book...finished it Sunday at 4 pm also in the middle of housework and laundry. Didn't even open the sunday paper until 5 pm. what a range of emotions we all went through.....laughter, crying, "aha" moments, "I knew it!" moments, OH NO moments, and that was probably all on one page. All i can say is, i'm glad i hopped on the hogwarts train when i did, to be a part of history. thank you. Now hopefully when they make the movie, it'll be about 4 hours long!!!!! And I want a prequel too, even though Jo did a great job with some of the "memories"
*CRACK*[apparates] Where to start? The final book of the Harry Potter series brought me through such an emotional range, from punching my fist in the air and screaming "YAH! FINALLY!!!" to absolutely sobbing in various parts of the book. There were also times when I was absolutely frightened, actually holding my breath as I was reading, and other times where I was in absolute shock. Other times I found myself saying 'What? what just happened? I must re-read that!' All in all it is my SECOND favorite book. The first one being of course my first. Why? Because it introduced us to Harry. I am rather fond of my first memories of Harry...thank you J.K. Rowling. I do have one question for anyone out there who can help enlighten me...what does the US cover of DH have to do with the story? SPOILERS hereafter: There are only two times that Harry and Voldy are together, and neither times, Harry has his back to Voldemort as depicted on the cover. It (the cover) definitely doesn't depict the Forbidden Forest scene...and in the Great Hall, they both have wands, which on the cover, neither of them do....any ideas?
Neville's awesome.. and we finally get to see why he was picked to be in Gryffindor!! all that skepticism!!! And i also thought about the Potter's jobs... ****SPOILER*** ** I dont think they had any because, if i understand correctly, Harry is a decendant of a Prevelle (sp??), and the gold his parents left for him must have been sooooo much, that they don't need to work.... and i think that we dont find out what harry, hermione, and ron's jobs are is because we can, as fans, fit into their shoes so well, that by leaving it open we are not secdluded to being something that we don't want to be. We as Harry, Ron or Hermione, can have any occupation to suit our needs!*********END OF SPOILER**** I also loved ******SPOILER******* how Neville gains posession of the real Gryffindor Sword and Griphook and the goblins don't end up with the sword in the end.... phooie on the goblins! greedy pigs!!! Potter's plan worked!!! **********END OF SPOILER*********
It does my heart good to see 8.3 million people reading :)
I don't know if you guys know but DH has sold over 15 MILLION COPIES WORLD WIDE! 8.3 in the US alone! FAR OUT! http://www.variet y.com/article/VR111796899 1.html?categoryid=21&cs=1 http://money.cnn.com/ 2007/07/23/news/companies /scholastic_potter/?postv ersion=2007072305 http ://www.veritaserum.com/bo oks/book7/ Thanks to the guys over at Veritaserum.Com
That just proves that HP has gotten even so much bigger since the sixth book! It's a must-read.
congrats! I'm still not finished reading. I've attempted to distract myself and save the enjoyment of the first time reading as long as I can because after this it's over, there will be no more books. I've been with it all 10 years since the sorcerer stone came out, and now it's finally time to say goodbye to a 10 year journey through the wizarding world. However Deathly Hallows may infact be my favorite book because the action starts straight from the beginning, and you learn a lot about old characters who still raised questions, you learn a lot about characters whose names have only been referenced to in passing. I'll miss reading these again, but at least I can always go back and read all 7 books from beginning to end without having to wait for any missing links to the story that we've had up until now. =]
woo hoo! its a great feeling when you know your one of those people.
Exactly! It sold like five million more World Wide. That's another half of what HBP sold. Crazy! Seriously mad! Mental, as Ron would say.
I won my copy!!!! In a trivia contest at the store! I was the first person to receive a copy that night. (in their store) I tied in the contest with a guy, so I guess it was a "ladies first" type of thing but who cares?! Power to the Potter Geeks!!!!!
i feel sorry for those people who haven't ever opened a harry potter book. they don't know what they have missed. *shakes head* i am glad to say i have been there since the first book, and will always stay a true fan
Oh my goodness. I wish the forums were up. I feel like I need a support group for those who've finished reading the book. It's all I can think about -- and I have a job interview in an hour!
can sum1 tellme if we found out how harrys and nevilles parents thwice dfied voldemort. R.I.P dobby
I bought one of those! YAY! Deathly Hallows was AWESOME! JK Rowling totally deserves this!
OMG! my family bought 5 books and 1 set of the cds. TONS of people still haven't gotten it yet though SOOOOOOOO.... anyway i hoped every1 luved the book! WOW 8.3 MILLION copies!!!!!!! thats a lot. Well thanx for reading!!!!!!
hannah at hogwarts....the cover is the Great Hall, when the Elder wand is spinning thru the air, waiting to choose it's rightful owner. the only way i was sure about that was the orange-y color, and that fight happened at sunrise. :) SPOILER************ok, not sure about this one, in "King's Cross" when Harry and Dumbledore were speaking, what was the baby crying in the background? Was that Voldemort's spirit/soul, if he didn't repent? I wasn't too sure about that one.
Ghost_Of_Winter- thats cool!!!!! someone at my bookstore at the midnight release one on too for free, and they got a vip pass or something, i wasn't sure what that was about though. they were at the front of the queue, i was about seventh in the queue, so one fo the first to recieve the book!!!! cool! i was happy to pay for mine..i would have done anything to get my hands on a copy!!! lol
Had mine pre-ordered, already read it once and I am halfway through my second read. Fantastic way to end the story (I will not give out spoilers). I laughed, I cried, and then I laughed some more and cried some more. I was heard throughout my house crying "WHAT!!" and "That just can't be true!". My sister thought I was posessed by demons in the night, LMAO. I loved every page of this book almost as much as I loved OOTP. It will require at least one re-read to understand all of the wonderful stories and answers that were given to us by JK. I have very few questions left, that I am sure will be answered upon finishing my second read. (I admit I was soo excited to read the book and find out what happens, I may have skipped some things unintentionally). Finally after months and months of sleepless nights contemplating the outcome of this book, I can sleep soundly knowing all the answers that have plagued my mind. Way to go Jo! May your next novel be just as entertaining and spellbinding as Harry's story. Whatever the subject, I will be first in line to read it.
Thanks Sticky. I took my Grandma with me and she was so proud that I could answer all the HP quetions. LOL
*****spoiler***** I am of the opinion that the person who used magic late in life is Mrs. Weasley. Technically she has already used magic, but what I think Jo was talking about was offensive magic, and she killed Bellatrix. This was hands down my favorite part of the book even though I loved the ending an the epilogue. Mabye I'm wrong, but I think that is what she meant. As to people thinking it was Arianna, she was only like 7. Late in life doesn't mean 7 I wouldn't think.
best book of the series. period. the only problem is that I think it needs to show us more about Harry's life after the war. We know he has kids but what is his profession... details!
i was very suprised as mrs weasley killed bella. i guess she had already lost fred, she was scared of losing another. this is what jkr could have meant, it is a good theory.i can't remember a time where molly has used magic against someone like that, usually just simple stuff around the kitchen. good thinking
I was pretty sure the last one would make a big hit. I wasn't able to get it at midnight cause my mom wouldn't let me go. and i was reallyyy mad. So I got up at 6.00 on the 21st and went to the store at 6.30 and waited outside until it opened. I got the book and when i had it in my hand i was soooooo happyyy. I even got the box that the books came in. I actually got two. But excuse me.. while i'm off the read it for a second time.
It makes me sad to think that after all these years of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, the story is over. The book was amazing, but the epilouge could have been longer and a bit more informative. Now I want to know which characters died in place of one getting a reprieve! AND, how did the Potters and Longbottoms thrice defy Voldemort??? The muggle world may never know. *tears*
Mrs. Weasly really did come off with some great magic at the end. I had forgotten all about the teasers. Course Dudly acting decent to Harry could be considered a magical occurance.
i almost didnt go to my midnight opening. it was flooding down here and my parents said as they came home from work it was impossible to get into town. i had a silent stress, which is danger mode. i shut myself up in my room. luckily we managed to get there, and it was great! lots of lovely fans. i would have swam there if i had to. lol
I have the worst stiff neck from reading all day! But it was worth it! =)
I'm realy feeling awfully anxious!!!!!!!! haven't received DH yet =( it's gret that it is selling so well! way to go harry!!!!!!!!! ^_^
BEST BOOK!!!!!!!! SPOILER WARNING AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I htink Teddy could have been living with the weasleys or maybe George. I think the two parts i cried the most at were the parts with Kreacher, (that was so SAD!) and when Dobby..... Died.... that was awful!!! I really love Kreacher now and hermione was right all along. I think some of the biggest unanswered questions are: Who is the headmaster/mistress of hogwarts now? what are ron harry hermione, and ginnys jobs? What happened to the ministry? Could percy be the new minister? and there are a lot of other things she didn't explain. SPOILER ENDS!!!!!!!! But really i want to say something to Jo even though she wont see this. THANK YOU JOANNE KATHLEEN ROWLING! YOU HAVE MADE MY LIFE... YOU HAVE MADE MY LIFE COMPLETE. ive been a fan since i was 5 years old. I am 12 now. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE HARRY POTTER POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU JO, BLOOMSBURY, SCHOLASTIC, AND I JO'S FAMILY..... THANK YOU MUGGLENET!!!!!!!!!! yea!!!!!!!! picklepak!!!!! hee hee lol...... And again i loved the book.
whhoopp! yeah! the book was freakin awesome! i luved it! glad it made so much money! tee hee
That's absolutely amazing! And I'm very proud to say that one of those 8.3 million copies was mine. =]
Yeah I work from 8am till 11pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I went over to Borders at about 11:30 after I had taken a shower and dressed up nice and all and hung out there with pretty much every person I have ever known. It seemed like every person and their mother was at Borders that night. I ended up getting a poster of the main cover, and one of the boxes the books came in, but since I hadn't gotten there early like everyone else I would have had to wait till bout 3am for my pre-ordered copy. And due to working I couldn't manage that. So my best friend and I sold our souls to Wal-mart and aided them in world domination just so we could get our copies at a decent hour, I'm ashamed, but it was all in the name of Harry Potter. I'm infinitly sad that this is the last book, I've been a fan since day 1, I was 11 if I remember correctly and my mom brought me the first book and I like freaked out. Nothing will ever compare to Harry Potter in the slightest. But I am glad that the story ended perfectly, and I am so happy that I was one of those many people that have been with Harry since day 1. And thats all that counts. I got my box though so ^_^
I'd prefer to know the worldwide count!
SPOILERS Reading about Neville here and I totally agree. Neville was awesome. He is apparently the Heir of Gryffindor. One question I have though... and if it was answered, I missed it... but who was the one with Voldy the night Lily and James were murdered? Who was able to recant the story? Minor point, but it bugged me. Also-- Did anyone notice the homages to Mugglenet (and other fan sites)? I thought that was pretty cool. The best of the homages was Peeves' song after "Voldy" dies.
I only own 4 6 and 7.. im gonna buy a box set and leave it unopened. I know thats stupid, but to me its a collector's item. its gonna be the UK version too :) cause those are the 'originals' thats gonna be fun to get.!!!
***spoiler warining!!!***that book was completely amazing. i couldn't get it at midnight on friday because i was at band camp =/ but i got it when i came back last night and finished it this morning at 7 :] i laughed and cried so much it was crazy. i was really upset in the beginning of the book especially when hedwig died. i think i was just really emotional because this WAS the last book. i LOVED all the ron/hermione moments :]]]]] especially the kiss towards the end :DDD it was sad hearing about how snape was in love with lily and why dumbledore trusted snape so much. i was happy when it was revealed that harry was a horcrux because i knew it was long coming...unfortunately i ruined the book for myself a few days earlier. i read the epilogue and the deaths but i still cried pretty much uncontrollably when harry was "walking to his death" with all his loved ones. though i knew he would be alright. :] at first i didn't like the epilogue but after reading the whole book i'm glad it had that happy of an ending. overall i LOVED this book :]
**************SPOILER ALERT DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN"T YET READ THE BOOK***************** wastingmy----- No one was with Voldy the night he killed the Potters, what you see is him remembering it while Harry is in Voldy's head.
what are all the homages... anyone wanna go and post them here?? wastingmy? and just for my speculation. i THINK it was Dumbldore who was there in the room. I think it is him because he asked James to borrow it, to see if it really was the real hallow. so he must have used it and had not been harmed because the cloak protects the wearer right?.... OR maybe Bathilda Bagshot could see it all, because as we know, the potters never shut the blinds that night when Voldy walked into the house. maybe it was just visible to everyone???....through the window.
I was never more let down by any book in my entire life. Harry potter is a huge part of my life and she ripped away a lot from me. The book had no climax, turning point, and the ending was like a fairy tale! They also found the horcrux in like 2 minutes a piece with no struggle. The epilogue was weak and the entire book was just them going from palce to place retrieving the horcrux, defeating death eaters. The book reminded me of the holocaust with all of the mudblood stuff and then reminded me of cinderella with the ending. There was no reason to kill Fred Weasely and there was no reason for the DEathly hallows. All haryy ended up doing was defeating the horcrux's!!!!!!!!!! It's like J.K. Rowling took all of the magic out of my life. It was worse than the last episode of the Soprano's. It was annoying how Harry didn't die and how everything turned out perfectly. The world isn't perfect. She took all of the reality out of Harry Potter and all of the fiction out of my life with a disgustingly horrible last book. My loyalties no longer lie with J.k. Rowling.
