WOW!!!! It was great! Best book ever. I cried most when Dobby died because he was so sweet and innocent. Lots of deaths, but it was a war. JKR ROCKS!!!!!
The book was good, but I have a few issuse with the deaths. I know it's war but it seemed like only the good guys were dying. I wanted to see some more death eaters fall. Snape's story was everything I wanted it to be. I LOVE him. I liked the epilogue, but wanted more. I need to know what happened to George and Luna and what jobs and so much more. Doby killed me and I have decided is it still alive. Also Krecher was awesome. A great relief in this book. Kreacher is amazing! I'm so sad it's over but glad to know Tom Riddle is finally dead!
my heart aches at the thought of no more h.p. I'm grieving but the last book was absolutely perfect, forget the unanswered questions, I think the point of the discreet epilogue was to show that Harry finally got what he always wanted. A normal, happy life.
By the way: Cheers to the Mugglenet staff, especially those of you who helped write the book. You lot were spot on with nearly every one of your predictions. I'm very impressed. =]] It's all over, guys. It's been an AMAZING run. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Here's to J.K. Rowling. You were fantastic, Jo. Thank you for Harry Potter, and for everything that's happened because of it.
Oh and I would really love to hear from Emerson, Melissa (leaky) and Ben!! So hoping to hear from you guys soon!!!
I began crying the moment I got the book in my hand, and had to put it down many times to stop during the course of the reading. I feel that, in all, it was an excellent book. I was disapointed in the epilogue, simply because I wanted more information on what everyone was doing! It was TOO short... The only BAD, HORRIBLE, and UNBELIEVABLE part of the whole story was the line where Ron opened the Chamber of Secrets...I can't imagine why JK felt that Ron should be able to do that! Far reaching, as far as I am concerned.
Victoire, I'm assuming, is Bill and Fleur's daughter. It's French.
I thought the book was reeeealy good! I'm so sad that it's all over though! :(
The deathly hallows has defenitely been my favourite Harry Potter in the series! I loved it so much, when Harry was walking into the forest to let Voldermort kill him was so sad but brave I've never cried so much! I'm glad we heard from Dumblefore again and I was so happy when Snape turned out to be good, and him being in love with Lilly was lovely! I seriously think JK did the best job ever! Fred dying was horrible same with, Lupin, Tonks, Snape and Mad eye! And hedwigg!!!!! Oh and Dobby! He saved them though! It was nice that Kreacher turned out to be not twisted and evil also loved the touch with Dudley actually being grateful to Harry! Good really did beat evil!
Pooterprophet7 said;; **"And i wonder what happened to the Dursleys. I think the epilogue just didn't sound like jk rowling it was more like a fanfiction"** I agree. Though, it obviously /was/ JK, I have to agree that it sounded like a /poor/ attempt at fanfiction. I thought that the names were, frankly, awful. I mean, it would've been nicer to see that one of the children were named Fred. And as for Fleur and Bill naming their child "Victoire" I first thought that it was a boy, and then I thought that perhaps it was the child of Viktor - until I understood who it really was. Aswell, in the epilogue, it never mentioned anything about Luna, and that was a let down. It also left us hanging as to what happened to the Dursleys, and Hermiones family. We can only assume the best here. We also do not know *officially* who performed magic late in life. There are speculations, but it definitly wasn't answered. Now, after I am done being so /negative/ I could spend my entire life talking about how spectacular the book was. It was my favourite line, ever, when Mrs. Weasley said "I won't let you hurt any more of my children you b****!" Though, it would've been fantastic to have Neville be the one to finish off Bellatrix. I also LOVED the room of requirement, and how all the people being hunted by the Carrow's (is that their names?) fled to the ROR. It reminded me of the lost boys hideout in Peter Pan. The book was obviously my favourite, and I have to wait a bit to read it again - I want to spread it out - I cannot believe that this was the final installment of Harry Potter. It's all over...but, atleast, "All is well."
It had me at the edge of my seat through the whole read, JKR is truly a Master Storyteller! As if the event wasn't bittersweet enough, the epigraphs at the beginning were heart-wrenching start. The journey was a rollercoaster of emotions. She gave enough backstory to not require a seperate book for it (in my opinion), but I would have liked more info on the aftermath of Voldemort's death - the "rebuilding" of the Wizarding world. For ex: what happens to Umbridge, Gringotts, Wizard-goblin relations? Also, the questions I thought would be answered in the epilogue or elsewhere in the book were 1) Does Harry become an Auror, 2) What exactly is the story of the Veil in the Dept of Mysteries? Superb book though - can't wait to read it again and to start the whole series over and pick up all the little hints that led to the solutions in the end.
I loved it. It was perfect. It was everything I ever wanted. And, at the end, for the first time ever, in my reading experience of any book, I sobbed openly, unashamed, uncontrollably and in a joyfully sad type of way.
I'm telling you guys, the "late in life" thing is IN HBP. Merope Gaunt was a Squib, and then managed to do magic because she was desperate. Sorry all of you that are insisting about Ted Tonks, but OotP (family tree scene) clearly calls him not a Muggle, but Muggle-born. He's a wizard. And remember, the reason he's killed is because he's a Muggle-Born. And while I'm at it, I'll change gears a bit. For me, the most moving part of the entire 7-book series was also one of the most simple moments, and one people may sadly have overlooked. Harry, at his most vulnerable, knowing it's about to end yet doing the bravest thing he's ever done in his life, shows that under it all, we really are human, and we really are just so unbelievably frightened sometimes: "Does it hurt?" It's the only thing he can think to ask, and yet he still carries on. Goosebumps.
I agree with opaque this will definitly get past 1000 i remeember on leaky mug on april fools day there were a zillion comments too. I didn't think one twin would live and the othere would die. I thought hagrid might die but some of the deaths surprised me who got the reprieve? i'm guessing tonks and lupin were the 2 who died
i thought it was absoultely wonderful. i was crying hysterically when harry was walking to his death. it was so sincere and brave what he did. Harry was always brave i think, but that really showed you like... how selfless he was. he didnt even question not going or not dying, he knew what he had to do. wonderful. dobby was a tragic loss! and fred! and lupin! and tonks! ... crazy. anyway, loved it, the epilogue...while a litle disappointing im glad i know what happened later in life for everyone even if it was brief.
I thought it was fantastic, J.K. Rowling really surpassed herself and though there are a few unanswered questions i'm sure in time we will find out the answers such as everyones occupations! The middle few chapters were a little 'boring' with just the three of them but needed to be there to complete the story telling though i wish there had been more set in hogwart's and with the general Harry Potter structure of the school year (e.g. Christmas!). I had to stop reading for 30 minutes while i composed myself after reading 'The Prince's Tale'. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience - i've grown up with Harry and i would like to think Jo has taught me some good morals while telling her story - Thank you!
I didn't understand alot of things...maybe it was because i was reading it a bit too fast...yea maybe that was it. Well i guess I'll have to read it again! Muahaha better for me! Meh Favorites In Order From "ehh" to "WO!!"
it was such an emotional book! i cried throughout the whole thing, especially chapter 34. i just wish more questions were anwered in the epilogue though. i couldnt believe the deaths...hedwig, mad eye, FRED (*BAWL*), tonks, lupin, colin creevey, snape...geez... i also found snape's story so endearing and sweet, especially how he loved lily after so much time =] i cried so hard when he cast that patronus in dumbledore's office. overall...my favorite book so far. so powerful. I WANT ANOTHER ONE!
Ok, so i'm kinda peeved (haha, harry pun)... Rowling said that the book would explain everything...i've finished the book and I'VE STILL GOT QUESTIONS!!! for example: -what happened to George? the jokeshop? -what about the rest of the Order? was kingsley made minister? -what about Hogwarts? who's the Head? -what about Hermione's parents? did she undo the spell? -...tell me more about Teddy, Rowling. -what happened with Charlie, Bill and Fleur? -what about the Dursleys? They were just getting nice! altogether, i just thought the Epilougue would explain more. like "harry went on to have 3 children, become minister....yada yada....the Order still met regularly to keep the memory of those extraordinary events alive....yada yada.....George continued on with the jokeshop and later became....someone important...." i dunno. maybe i'm just sad it's over. now every time i reread the books, i'll just be thinking "oh if only you knew..." I was absolutely devastated when Lupin and Tonks died. I can see why maybe she wanted Lupin dea, but Tonks' death was TOTALLY unnecessary. she wasn't of any use once she was dead, unlike Lupin who at least came back for some kind of message. *frustration* Ohhhhhh but i was pleased to find out that i was right that: 1. Snape was good. 2. Snape killed Dumbledore on Dumbledore's orders. 3. Harry was a Horcrux. 4. Harry/Ginny and Hermione/Ron get together. 5. Snape loved Harry's mother. 6. The barman in Hog's Head was Aberforth. 7. R.A.B. wasw Regulus Black. 8. Lupin died. 9. Harry didn't die. 10. Neville became Herbology Prof at Hogwarts. I was most surprised by: -Lupin/Tonks had a child. -Mad-Eye died. -Harry didn't go to Hogwarts at all. -Snape died. -Colin Creevey died. -Lupin and Tonks died. -George lost an ear. Well...I guess it's over, then. Still a masterpiece of a book.
Seriously----disappointed . HATE the epilogue. Loved the battle, but thought the ultimate show down between Harry and Voldemort anticlimactic. Seriously upset that I invested ten years for that ending. If you delet the epilogue, it's a MUCH BETTER BOOK! POOR DOBBIE!!!! :(
While the epilogue was pretty cheesy, I started bawling when I read it. Thank god everyone else was in bed. I can't believe it's over...it's so surreal! While there are some minor complaints, I loved the book and I'll definitely be rereading it again soon to catch the details I missed. It's been an amazing nine years and when I have kids I hope that Harry Potter will be even half as big a part in their lives as in mine. Seriously, I'm going to have my own Potter parties for them or something. Thank you, Jo!!!
That was the best book by far. But I did have some tiny things that I didn't like. One was the part where they were looking for Horcruxes. Some things came up in the middle of it, like Ron leaving and the conversation they overheard, but otherwise it was a little boring and repetitive. The other part was the epilogue. I liked it, although I found it a bit cheesy in a way. I also wanted to know a bit more about other people in the book, like George Weasley, and others, and I also wanted to know more about Harry especially. I wanted to know what his job was and more about his kids. She did leave an incredible amount of information open, which I found a bit disappointing, but I'm guessing she did that for one reason: to leave it up to the readers, and maybe even to let them write about it! Plus she probably couldn't fit it all unless the epilogue was fifty pages! lol, But everything else was wonderful! Favorite book by far!
I'm really sad the series is over, it meant so much to me. However, I am really glad it ended the way it did because it offered the best kind of closure for us readers: a happy ending with life going on. I honestly find it difficult to pick a part everything grammatically wrong with it. These books are a part of our generation's history. This is what we're going to remember when we look back on our youth when we're older. We're the generation of Harry Potter. These books mean so much to so many people and you can't put a review on that. The final book was amazing, as are all the other books. To some it may have not been the greatest writing, but JK made us feel something incredibly strong for Harry, Ron, Hermione and everyone involved. We followed the epic journey, we made Harry Potter real and we love him as well as the Weasley's, Hermione, Hagrid and so on. We laughed, we cried, we got mad and we sympathized. JK made us feel like we were there with Harry, Ron and Hermione on their journey. That is something very hard to attain by an author, and to keep it going through seven books. I think there should be a big Good Bye party for Harry Potter.
the epilogue was disappointing. i'd like to know what became of george and luna. yes, and who was the muggle who performed magic later in life? ted tonks? and what on earth is the deal with fred?! too morbid. and hedwig?! unnecessary.
I absolutely loved this book. JK Rowling really out did herself on the whole. The only thing I wish she did differently was to add more info about other people at the end. The sudden deaths were a little surprising. This is my favorite book in the best series ever written. Thank you Jo!!!!!!!!
I agree, absolutely FANTASTIC! The ending really fit well. I read Mugglenet's "What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7" a couple days before the book came out. I liked comparing them. Boy were they wrong about Dobby XD I was just wondering, how the heck is Ron able to speak parseltounge (I cannot spell it) all of the sudden?
I thought the book was terrific. The only thing that kept me from breaking down completely when Harry sacrificed himself to Voldemort was the thought that there seemed to be too many pages left in the book for Harry to be truly dead. Even so, I read the chapters about Snape's memories, Harry's walk to the forest, and "Kings Cross" through tears. However, I am a bit confused by something. I've read, in the weeks leading up to the release of the book, that JKR had said that Harry was not a Horcrux. In fact, I seem to have a recollection of reading this on her website. After I finished the book, I went back to her website and looked, and of course nothing to that effect is there. Am I the victim of a Memory Charm? Does anyone else remember this? Or was I simply reading speculation that I took for canon?
It was amazing, I thought that it was a spectacular book to end the series with. My one problem with it was the epilogue - I thought that it was too short, I wished to recieve more information on what the characters were doing then. But overall, I believe that it was my favorite book of the series. I honestly started bawling when Harry admitted he must die - and all of the other deaths made me tear up as well. I thought that the story was good, and I actually enjoyed that most of it was featured on the trio. I know many questions were left unanswered, and in a way that's quite irritating, but in another way I'm glad JKR did that. It leaves us with the opporunity to always speculate and dream about those variety of details left open in the Harry Potter world. I read the book all day Saturday, couldn't put it down, and know I'm half way through reading it again. I am terribly sad that the series is over because I grew up dreaming I was part of the HP world. But I'm also very satisfied with the way it ended. The Harry Potter books will always be some of my favorite reads. Thank you JKR.
did anyone else break down crying after they finished the book? Of course I cried during the book at the sad parts, but then I finished and it felt really weird..like ok, I can't believe its over..this is just really strange. and then a couple hours later it hit me...the end of the series..no more new books (most likely, although never say never!) and I just started bawling and couldnt stop! oh and I agree with everyone who says there needed to be an extra chapter in between the last and the epilogue...it just would've explained more and given a little more closure..i like closure. I really hope we get the encyclopedia!!! and I thought Kreacher was adorable with his change of heart....aww!! and Mrs. Weasley NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU *****!! that was great! loved that she finished her. i loved everything but...yeah, Ron and Hermione's kiss was excellent too. there's so much more but I couldnt possibly put into post online...amazing, and I just pray we get that encyclopedia!!
I absolutely loved this book. I dunno if it's my favorite, but it's definitely up there. I'm immensely sad that it's over - I've grown up with Harry, I began reading at age 10, and finished at age 17, just like he did. He'll always be a part of my life. I personally enjoyed the epilogue - I thought the name homages were touching, though I dunno where Rose and Hugo came from. Thin air, apparently. I cried a lot harder for the early deaths (Mad-Eye, Hedwig, Dobby) than I did for the later ones - I wanted to cry my heart out for Fred and Remus, who I loved and were some of my favorite characters, but I expected them to die, so I think it was less of a shock. Lots of things I was hoping for closure on went unanswered, which kind of disappointed me - we saw less of the other characters and Hogwarts teachers than I would have liked, and didn't even touch on the Dept. of Mysteries or the veil. I hope JKR does that encyclopedia she's been talking about, maybe some of that stuff will be in there. Anyway, it was fabulous, I loved it, and I wishwishwish there could be more!!!
Um the last chapter that was like written when the series began would that be the last chapter or the epilouge?
Absolutely brilliant. The epilogue was a little corny, and I wish she had told a little more about their lives in between the last battle and the present, and how everyone was coping, but the book on the whole was a wonderful ending to the series. It only makes me sad that it's just that...and ending. What am I going to do without Harry Potter?
this was the best book ever! I laughed, cried, choked, and forgot to breathe several times! I cried when dobby showed up, i cried when he died, i cried when fred, remus, and tonks died, i cried when harry was walking to his death!!!! I laughed and cried when mrs. weasley went after bellatrix, when the book was over, when george lost his ear (holy) when ron came back, and i just loved this book sooooooooo much!!!!!!!!
I liked it a lot, probably my favorite of the series. i did enjoy the epilogue as well, there were a couple of things unanswered, but i am pretty sure Rowling wanted it that way. Its kind of weird though, ive grown up with this series and now that its all over...you can't help but be sad about it.
the book was amazing!! the last few chapters were so sad i cried....and i wish she would have said more about the rest of the ppl in the story
Wow. I thought I might just faint when I realised Snape told Harry to look at him just to see Lily's eyes one last time. And King's Cross was pure bliss. I felt incredibly elated on the last 3 chapters... just brillant!!
"OI! There's a war going on here!" LMAO!!!!
Great book I have not decided if it or POA is my favorite yet. Epilogue was good it just needed a little more info. All the deaths were really sad but the ones that hit me the most were Fred and Dobby's. And by the way what is this later in life thing everyone is talking about did I miss something. Thanks JK you are amazing!
The only thing I don't understand/missed in this book was why Dumbledore intended for Snape to become the owner of the Elder Wand. What was the original plan?
A. Maz. Ing. Just, wow. It was just amazing. I couldn't put it down! I read it in only twoys. It takes me longer to read the Sorceror's Stone! But I can't believe it's actually over. I mean, it's like it just started. It felt kind of unreal to me. But a lot of your predictions came true Emerson! I mean, you said that Dobby had the least chance of dying. Well, now we can see that he - er - DID. Poor Hedwig! And LUPIN and TONKS! They just got married and now Ted is like Harry, never knowing his parents (well remembering them anyways) but atleast Ted doesn't have to defeat Voldemort. Neville got his golden moment of glory. Luna was amazing. Ron was hilarious. Hermione was (as usual) clever. (Thank goodness those two FINALLY got together.) Fred! How will George go one without him? Molly was HARD-CORE, man! P.S. I knew had seen the Deathly Hallows symbol before! When we had to open the door on JK Rowling's website, (You know, to get the name?) we had to arrange the line, the triangle and the circle in the DH sign! P.P.S. Eagerly awaiting news that we have been disinformed, that it is, in reality, an at least eleven book series. P.P.P.S. Long live the Crumple-Horned Snorkacks! P.P.P.P.S. PoA still my favorite!
This was the best book in the world! I love the twist with harry at the end. and it was my dream to have harry and ginny get together:)YAY!
hmm this is just a thought but coukld she have been talking about dumbledore's sister? because everyone thought she was a squib...? maybee?
I do not quite know what to make of this book. I loved and hated it at the same time. I thought that the book could have flowed better and am perplexed as to how there are several plot holes. For instance, the age of Teddy Lupin does not fit into the story if he is nearly one and then 19 years later is still able to attend Hogwarts. Perhaps the horcrux concept should have been introduced prior to HBP. However I do applaud Rowling for thinking up many aspects of the stories that no one could have possibly seen coming. Several theories were right, yet I doubt anyone could have guessed correctly about the DH.
This book was amazing... the first time... the second time... and the beginning of the third time so far. I am still kind of in shock, and i do want to find out the extra stuff, so i will be very happy if the encyclopedia comes out. okay. i am going to read it again. but the only thing i didnt like very much was the epilogue, and dudley being nice to harry... i honestly thought it would be petunia
to me, it felt like ages ago when the trio were camping in the different places now that ive read the battle of hogwarts and the epilogue. the epilogue like most say here was cheesy but i liked it anyway. i thought for sure jo would kill harry, but she didnt. but now theres so many unanswered questions like what happened to fenrir?, what was george to do with their wheezes shop?. where did ginny and harry live with their children? who was the new headmaster or mistress of hogwarts? and when Harry was hit with avada kedavra when he walked ib the forest by voldemort and fainted, how did dumbledore enter his mind? and if harry wasnt dead, was dumbledore not either? the battle of hogwarts to me was kinda corny. like in every tale out there, a final big battle always happens. i guess i was just expecting something more magical and complex. a terribly sad story also and only wouldve made it sadder if Harry died but poor snape, everyone gave so much of their life to protect harry which why i guess jo didnt kill him off, so it wouldnt end in vain and stuff. i also wonder which character got the reprieve since jo said someone would, perhaps harry. i hope jo answers some of these questions on her website. i liked the malfoy manner and gringotts chapter the best. very exciting.
What were Lily and James' professions? Did the Dursleys just go back to Privet Drive after Voldemort was defeated? Why Fred? Why Remus? Why Tonks?
The book was great. It started off with a bang and I was just amazed of everything that went on in the first few chapters. It could not have been better. Although, it dragged on for so long in the middle when all Harry, Ron, and Hermione were doing was hiding out. They didn't do much and it seemed slow. However, once they were captured and taken to the Malfoy Manor it picked up again and from then on it was just gut wrenching. Dobby's death did it for me. That was just.. terrible. The deaths that came before Dobby's were sad but yet none of them could match the grief that Dobby's brought me. Everything was a blur afterwards and it was just great how everything was structured in the end. Every single little detail. My favorite part was when Snape gave Harry the memory and of course the actual memory. Plus, when Voldemort and Harry are facing one-on-one and Harry just tells him off so good. Voldemort looked like such and idiot and he died, hah! I can't help to agree with everyone though. The Epilogue was disappointing and there's a lot of stuff that was left unanswered. Nevertheless, it was an epic book. Not sure if it's my favorite yet but if not it's for sure second favorite.
AMAZING BRILLIANT INCREDIBLY AMAZINGLY REDICULOUSLY SUPERFANTABULOUS but a better epilouge would be nice
WOW! Simply breathtaking. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows does not disappoint. All the loose ends are tied up. There are many aspects of the book that simply could not have been predicted. The deaths were handled well, and significant to the storyline of the book. I was personally left in tears before I even reached chapter five. This was simply a master piece by Ms. Rowling, who has made a tremendous impact on 21st century literature. With every page, there is something unexpected discovered, yet so blatantly foreshadowed. With every page, secrets were unraveled and long lost stories told. With every page, the end loomed closer to the devoted fans, waiting to hear the fate that lay ahead of Harry and his companions, which had been set into stone light years ago. I applaud Ms. Rowling for her dedication to the series, bringing forth what will be without a doubt become a household name, and classic tale loved for, and by, generation and generations to follow. I have to say though, whenever I think of the title, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", I think of the line: "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU girl!"- Mrs. Weasley
The book seemed soo dark and i began to wonder, "Does Harry even have a chance??!!" J K Rowing didn't answer soo much though! I miss Hedwig, Tonks, Lupin, and Fred!!!!!
