This book was amazing! It tied in EVERY loose end you could think of. Plus I really love how human she made Dumbledore. He always insisted he was far from perfect, and I think this book, in revealing his flaws in how as a young man he wish for power and struggled with his home life, it really makes it so. Also the deaths were SO sad. Poor Teddy, won't have any parents :( Speaking of which, the epilogue was golden. And the last two sentences were my favorite(right after "yet the fact remains that he can move faster than snape when confronted with shampoo") :) it's so sad that the series is over but there is no better way for it to of ended.
It's was purrrrrrrrrfect!!!!!!!!!!
Hallows has to be my favorite book of the hole series. At times was shocked of who all died but the book was amazing. It was a great way to finish the series. I hope that when the 7th movie comes they fallow the book and dont leave anything out!!!!! I give Jk Rowling more than 5 stars!!
I loved the book. I was crying and laughing and just on a total rollercoaster of emotions. To answer the question a lot of people are asking I believe the person who came into their magic was Ron. He was far more "magical" this book then in most of them. Same with Neville. I am also confused as to whose kid was Victoire. But the book was amazing I love it love it love it!!! The epilogue was pretty vague but it was nice to have that snapshot of the future. How cool about Albus Severus. Very touching.
The story was incredible. Though many of our questions were not answered to the level we would like, JK Rowling still did a magnificent job on this epic classic. Yes...CLASSIC. As deserving as Tolkien, Lewis, etc. I did predict the Snape aspect, even down to the fact that Harry would not know the truth until after Snape's death. Various deaths made me cry (especially dobby's...digging the grave with a spade...I am tearing up again...) but one thing that really made me tear up was Hermione telling the other two what precautions she made to protect her parents...how sickeningly sad! It is truly a dreadful thing to imagine, but a beautiful way to have done it. The only real question I have left is what happened to Luna? I thought it strange she was not included in the epilogue. Overall--geniu s, incredible, exhilerating, WOW!
Great book, we laughed, we cried, we talked history and world politics! Loved Neville and Mrs. Weasley in the final, final battle...;-) And the name "Albus Severus" ROTFL! Wished JK had given us more reaction from Harry when he saw the Prince's story in the Pensieve (before he was distracted by realizing the enormity of his role at the end of the memory sequence). We *really* wanted Harry to talk to Snape at some point.... if even to just Snape's headmaster portrait at the end (Snape was a good headmaster, protecting the students as best as the situation allowed. So where was his portrait?) Also not sure why - after Harry and LV have this big discussion of the Elder wand in front of all these people (including death eaters!) - no one ever tries to get if from Harry? Given the wand's bloody history, it seems unlikely that no one in the room was seduced by the thought of getting it from him (whether then or later in the next , say, 19 years...)
dhfan...voldemort's curse didn't work on harry in the final battle because the Elder Wand belonged to Harry, and refused to kill him, so it rebounded off of Harry's spell and killed voldy.
I loved it only: Who did magic later in life, what were James and Lilys jobs, what are Ron, Hermione, Harry, and Ginnys jobs now? Who is Victoire? But I loved Snape's memories. The epilogue made me cry cuz it was so hard picturing Harry away from hogwarts and all grown up lol. plus i have been really depressed 4 the past 2 days cuz its beggining to sink in that there is no more HP.....i am soooooo depressed... R there any chat rooms 4 thisss?????
i absolutely loved this book. and i actually liked the epilogue.. it was very lighthearted and you basically learn that they're all doing okay.who cares if we didn't learn their occupations an whatever.. i think the epilogue was just there as a happy ending kinda deal. and i think jo did a very nice job of tying up loose ends.. you can only get to so many in a book such as this. but congrats to jkrowling on such a fantastic end :]
It was AMAZING. the deaths hit me hard, could have done with a little less of those (tonks and lupin especially). agreed the epilogue was a little lame, it was a little corny and unimformative but.. hey. I'm happy =]
It was so touching when Harry buried Dobby. Dudley really surprised me in the beginning. I guess what Dumbledore said about choices and abilities really applied to him.
Best book ever!! As to who used magic for the first time, if you read carefully I think you see Filch saying a spell during the Battle at Hogwarts. Let me know if I'm right. I need to read it again to catch all the details.
This book was the greatest of the series. I loved every aspect of the book. It had unexpected events in every chapter, the only thing i was disappointed in is Snape's death. It wasnt in depth i mean we know how he died and what he did for harry but i felt like alot was missing...maybe its just me. I loved how jk made the "unnecessary" deaths mean something in the book. Yes they didnt have to die but no one has to die in that sense. Colin had no reason in dying but jk made it seem like more innocents die due to the course of voldemort.....
Manda056: I CRIED TOO! i was just sitting there crying and my mom was like, 'what the heck?!' anyway... i liked the book, but i think the epiloge was a total cliche and i think she could have done a little more with it. there were a couple things still left unanswered, like which character showed magical tendencies in later life? was it ron with the parcelmouth? i wasnt sure. also, in the OotP, the prophecy said that harrys parents defied voldemort three times, but here it never said how they did it. and also in OotP, right after harry had the dream about nagini and mr. weasly, what was w/ the smoke snakes, and dumbledore was like, 'of course, but in esence divided?' i didnt see an answer in this book. i was also shocked by how, whenever they needed something, hermione had already thought of it, already had it, or already knew how to do the spell. it made it seem more like a fan fiction story then a real harry potter book. i really liked how you got to learn so much about dumbledore, and i loved the last couple of chapters, where he talks to his parents and lupin and sirus about death, and of course i liked the disscussion w/ dumbledore at the end. over all, a very good book, but i am SO depressed that there will be no more. it makes me very sad. =[
Perfect.
best book ever....SO SAD THOUGH!! I CANT BELIEVE ITS OVER! i cried for forever....loved ron and hermione!!! and i felt sooo sorry for snape...i love him now!! i wish we found out what happened to luna...but what about all the things we were supposed to find out? like lily being good at charms and stuff like that??? oh well...i am satisfied. ya epilouge was kind of normal but it was how it needed to be so.....R.I.P. FRED and DOBBY and MAD-EYE and HEDWIG and REMUS and TONKS and COLIN CREEVY and everyone else....loves it
an awesome book. I dont know if anybody answered this yet, but it was petunia who did magic late in life, because she was being sent to hogwarts, but didnt want to go. I loved the epilogue, because it was a nice little finishing touch, and didnt need much detail, or we'd all still be asking questions about the ending. I wonder why the veil was never explained, and the U.S. cover looked nothing like the end of the book. Overall great book.
I could DEFINATLEY see someone picking up where J.K. left off.....Just thik, the new generation of Hogwartians! I'm half hoping some one will!
I Love the book! I think Teddy is living with his grandmother.
I, like many people, was disappointed with the epilogue. However, i think what bothered me most wasn't that it didn't give us more info (even though that would have been nice). My biggest problem was that it didn't really feel like we knew those people. They had the same name, certainly, but they were presented in such a drastically different context. We had no real idea what we ought to expect from a 19 years older cast and this is a real departure from JKR's normally spectacular character development. In one turn of a page, harry went from a teenage hero at the height of glory, but who also didn't fit into the world around him in many ways... to a humble adult who had his own little world where he knew perfectly well where he belonged. It was confusing in that sense and also pretty lame. However, it seems to me that this would have been easily fixed by a true 'aftermath' type chapter taking place after he left the headmaster's office. It would have included him taking the first steps towards being included again (ginny included), a better summary of general rebuilding, as well as clues as to where everyone was to go from there. If such a chapter had existed, I would have been satisfied with her cute epilogue. The good news, is that if she wanted, she could write it, and... i dunno... post it on her website or something... *cough cough*. That, i think, would bring me the closure the book in its current form lacked.
Definitely AMAZING, but I feel really sad now it's over...and there are lots of things I'd like to know
i already wrote, but who was victoire?
Incredible. Every emotion possible was felt throughout the whole book. Snapes death shook me, I was convinced he was good therefore I'd always liked him. I didn't want to admit it even to myself but I had been afraid Jo would kill Harry off and I am beyond happy that she didn't. I also loved the names for Harry's children it showed Harrys love towards people, even ones that weren't always particularily nice to him. Jk did such an amazing job all throughout the series and in the deathly hallows rapping up all the loose ends. I am so crushed that it's finally over. And just from speculation polkadotted -- Nymphadoras mom was still alive so I am guessing he lived with her or on his own by that point as he would've been 19 years old.
WOW!!! I still can't find words to express exactly how I feel about this book. I'm pretty sure that it has replaced OOTP as my favourite one. I absolutely loved it! I know there have been a lot of complaints about the little unanswered things, but I honestly could care less. Everything that was really important was answered! I also have to say that I completely bawled through all of "The Forest Again" and even in the beginning of "King's Cross". Once I figured out that Harry was for sure not dead, I calmed down a little. Over all, I can't thank Jo enough for this incredible book. Seriously, how does she write all this stuff??? We love you Jo!! THANK YOU!
I was physically shaking in several, several scenese. AMAZING BOOK. I WANT MORE!!! Yeah, The Epilogue was a dissapointment. I wasn't expecting a specific scene, but a narrator explaning what excatly happened to all the major character after Voldemor got pwned.
I simply loved it! I cried, I squeed, and I even danced in some parts. I can't believe its over though, 8 years of having Harry Potter to look forward to, and now I know the ending. Deathly Hallows has become my favorite out of the whole series, and my favorite book of all I would have to say. The epilogue was alright, not anything near any of the other chapters, but its nice to know what at least going on with our main couples and Neville (hes so cool!), oh and Malfoy. I just can't wait to read the whole series to my children...when I have some in like 15 years from now haha!
The BOOK WAS ABSOLUTELY GREAT!! It got me to rethink my thoughts about some people and kept me guessing and in shock. Although quite obvious toward in the end who would win and what would happen. I'll never forget it! LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER!!!
I loved this book. OOTP is still my all time fave though. Way to go J.K.R. I am still kind of sad to see it all end.
the book was AMAAAZING !!! i loved it, and although i hate to say it, the epilogue was a bit of a let down that was made up for by everything else. i thought the epilouge was kinda corny and fan-fictionesque, and i really hoped jk would come up with something a little newer and with more closure. However, i liked reading about more of the backstories behind snape and dumbledore, they were AWESOME ! wonder who was supposed t do magic later in life... hmmm :/ oh well, it is absolutely my FAVORITE!!! thank you jo !
Excellent People whinging about not getting all the things that were hinted at? Sort of missing the point really. The point of the book is to tell a story, not to give answers to the hints and rumours she put out. One small thing. Early on Hermione says she modified her parents memories. A few pages on she says she has never done the memory charm. Its probably my misreading but isnt that a bit contridictory? A great story that they will seriously need to think about making into 2 films, not one. Will probably have to be an 15 too.
dhfan: I don't know the answer to your first question, but firstly, Harry didn't come BACK to life, he NEVER died. Now, I think Voldemort's Crucio curse didn't work on Harry because Harry had died to save Hogwarts it's students and generally the world. And Harry is technically still a Hogwarts student. So as Harry says at some point, Voldemort's curses didn't work on any of them as Harry had already given the ultimate sacrifice, even if it didn't kill him. As for the elder wand. I THINK the way it works is that it is between the two wands, rather than people. Draco's wand beat the elder wand, because he disarmed Dumbledore - that was the last spell the elder wand faced. So the elder wand owes allegiance to Draco's wand. Then Harry beats Draco's wand, with the other one. So now Harry's other wand, owes allegiance to Draco's BUT Draco's wand still lays claim over the elder wand. So the elder wand recognizes the wand that beat it and will not work properly against it. A bit confusing :) But that's my two cents!
The best in the series!!!!! I laughed. I cried. It was everything I could have hoped for and more, but I don't want it to be over.
The book was amazing!!! I especially liked learning about Dumbledore's past and Snape's connection to Lilly. The relevation that Petunia wrote to Dumbledore asking to be a part of the school was also very interesting (not to mention explains a lot about why she had those sudden outbursts of knowledge about the magical world). However, I was dissapointed with the epilogue, and it felt like JKR was inventing too many new rules concerning magic that hadn't really existed previously (like the whole wand transfer thing). Also, the destruction of some of the horcruxes seemed too convenient, like how the fire just HAPPENED to be cursed fire that could destroy horcruxes and the sword of gryffyndor just HAPPENED to be infused with basilisk venom or some such thing. But even though there were some promises that JKR didn't come through on, (unless we all missed something...) I think she gave us so much info that it doesn't really matter. I think this book was my favorite, even though Fred was my favorite character and I didn't want him to die.
overall it was a good book..im just sad that the series is over and i hope she writes another series..epilogue left some loose-ends...but idk im just sad that its over
it was amazing. so sad it's over. so happy snape was good :))). still a few unanswered questions though, but i suppose some things are better left to mystery. and if not, JK can answer them all now without risking giving stuff away. i know it's stupid but the main thing i wanted to know was who teddy had been living with, but tonk's mother's the most likely i expect. and AWWW at albus severus. J.K.ROWLING IS AN ABSOLUTE GENIUS.
best lines ever 'Fred, Im holey, Get it? Holey?" "St.Holey" "How dare you insult my intelligence" -Hermione (that line was also on the godfather" "YOU girl"-Mrs. Weasley RIP DOBBY, TONKS AND LUPIN!!!!! I really didn't like the epiolgue tho, only if there was a little synopsis about EVERYONE then it would've been great, but otherwise, it was a bit too sappy for my liking. overall tho, the best book in the series!!! *for a good laugh, i suggest readind one of the overhyped "leaked' editions online, they were wicked funny and brightened my day after finishing the real book. just google in harry potter and the deathly hallows pdf downloads, and look for one that sez something like (FAKE) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. it is totally worth reading if you want to bring up your spirits!!!!
An amazing book - pure genius. Genius. Yeah, I would have liked a better epilogue, but the one we got was strangley satisfying. DH is the BEST BOOK EVER!
I haven't read all 529 comments, but did anyone else notice that Albus Severus Potter= ASP ? One last leftover snake connection with Harry? Overall, I loved the book. I agree with some others, though, that the epilogue was pretty weak. After the 7 books, and thousands of pages, preceding it, it just didn't seem to fit and afterthought on her part. The only one of the main characters we got any closure for information-wise (aside from the obvious fact that they got married and had kids--didn't we all assume that anyway?) was Neville. What were they all doing for a living? What was George doing? I also felt McGonagal got shortchanged. I know there was a lot to fit in, but she could have at least gotten a mention in the p
OMG!! that was the best book I've ever read. I was so HAPPY that Ron and Hermione finally got together. They are the cutest couple ever. Victoire is Bill and Fleur's child just 2 clear that up. I was ok with all the deaths (well of course i was sad), but I think they were kind of necessary in a way. Except 4 FRED!! Y did he have to die, i totally didnt see that coming. I cried so many times while reading that i really can't even remember how many times. I was bawling while reading the epilogue. It was just such a happy ending, especially when Harry and Draco saw each other!! And then of course Harry named his son Albus Severus. How can you not cry on that part!! I can't believe the series is over. It feels kind of weird, i mean i've been reading HP for like 7 years. It's sad to see it go, but i know i'll keep rereading the books !!
just finished... it's a great end to the whole series - but it didn't convince me in every part.. Many pages are waisted telling us how the trio isn't able to go on with their task due to lack of ideas. I was extremely relieved that Harry didn't use the killing curse in the end - although the methods of the good and bad ones seem to be melting together in this book. Harry uses the imperius curse, mrs. weasley kills a person,... but i'm glad harry lives and is at last free to have a normal life. the background of snape and his death was somehow shocking - i'm astonished many of the fan theories turn out to be right
I love Snape! =D
I absolutely loved it, and I hated it. I'm so depressed it's over, I've been with Harry since I was in sixth grade and read the first for reading hour. Best book series EVER.
DHFAN, those are great questions.. i was wondering most of them too. 1.. i think that harry could not be killed AFTER the fourth book when voldemort took his blood [this is why dumbledore had that 'gleam of triumph' in his eye.] the reason why dumbledore didn't tell snape that harry couldn't really die is because snape had to show harry the memory, and harry had to BELIEVE that he was going to die in order for the horcrux to be removed. [this is what i think, anyone else agree?] 2...I have no idea why the Crucio curse didn't work? Maybe it doesn't work if the caster thinks the target is dead? 3...The curse didn't work because the elder wand would not kill it's owner, and also because harry couldnt die anyway while voldemort was alive [thats what i think atleast.] 4... that whole thing with Draco's wand being taken from him confused me too. Harry didn't take the elder wand from Draco, but I guess once you take one persons wand, all of their wands belong to you? Good question.
I liked the book by itself. but i thought the OOtp HBP and GOF were much better. I loved the first 8 or ten chapters... but then it seem like stuff just started getting crammed in.... as if to cut down on the length of the book. I didnt really get too surprised by the different horcruxes especially harry, or the snape thing or R.A.B. they all seemed to turn out to be the most popular theories.... so different from the other books. in other words, this book lacked the great surprises the other books held. No real huge bombs of info seemed to get dropped like that of the horcruxes. I loved the stories of dumbledore's past... but i was irked by the fact that harry seemed so dumbed down compared to everyone. I'm a huge harry fan and well.... the book seemed more focused on the trio than harry. Teamwork's good and all but harry didnt destroy one of the horcruxes. why? he seemed to take a backseat to hermione's intelligence until the end. I also wish we could have seen much more of all the side characters... i mean we didnt see the professors of Hogwarts until the very end. But i was most bothered by the snape lily thing ... but it seemed to tarnish james' image. We only got to hear about the good of lily ... but never of james. How did james get lily if she disapproved of his treatment of snape? How did they defy the dark lord three times? What did dudley see w/ the dementors? What happened to all our other beloved characters after the war like hagrid? I want to know more... but its over......
JK did not disappoint me. The pace of the book certainly picked up in the end; I felt like I was reading an episode of 24! Many questions still remain, and I hope that JK will address them in an additional book. As a mom, I liked some of the small statements she seemed to make in this novel... that fathers (Lupin) should stay with their children and that moms are strong (Mrs. Weasley offing Bella to protect her family; Tonks fighting even though she just gave birth, etc.) In the end, my takeaway was that JK came full circle with the idea that we are made by our choices, not our abilities, as Harry chose to live in the King's Cross chapter. Excellent book!!
Absolutely perfect, some unanswered questions, but hey, I'm not the author. Jo did an amazing job!
it was definitley a dark and sad book. i didnt like at first when i finished it because i was so shocked at how it ended with harry just thinking of his bed at hogwarts and then the epilogue which made me confused but now i think its my favourite out of the series
Good book............a few things i would like to know....what happen to the dursleys.......and krecher-he sort of helped harry a lot and became good....woulld have wanted to know what happens in the end about them...........my favourite chapters in the book were: krechers tale and princes tale (dunno if thats thye name of the chapters but i am sure you know what chapters it is*********************** *************SOMEONE ANSWER: 1) Who did magic late in life?.....2) Where was rons car? 3) would have wanted to know more behind the veil in tghe department of mysterires. other than that it was good....book 6 might have beaten it though.....not sure :)
Albus Severus Potter's a good name......... if u think so reply that it is!
I thought the book was great but the epilouge was a little too perfect. it didn't really fit with the rest of the series. It reminded me of a Fluffy fanfic. I loved everything else though and cried a lot = )
