I still want to know the whole importance with Lily's and Harry's eyes. And then with Albus sharing the green eyes. I was happy we finally found out why Dumbledore always trusted Snape. But the way she wrote Dumbledore, I was really kinda mad at him the whole time. I lost some respect for him in this book.
I loved the book it felt like i was living it as the characters where. the epilogue was just to thin. i want to know more!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, Harry said "open" in parseltongue (sp?) to open the locket when Ron stabbed it with the sword
I went camping right after i got the book, and i read half of it just on the way up there, and i just barely finished it, and let me say.....kudos J.K. Rowling! i don't think that any other book or series will ever top or be as good as the one that you just finished. You have made us laugh, and cry, and read more than ever. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent and imagination with us for the past seven years.
I don't see why people disliked the epilogue... It makes it really really easy for her to continue the story with that...
I have to add that I thought Ron speaking Parseltongue was awesome. xD It was one of my favourite parts, an honour that was, of course, shared by Mrs. Weasley's "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU B-" you know the rest. I love that book. So. darn. Much.
I was dissappointed with the epilogue. I wanted to know more about the other people too like Luna and Dean. I wanted to know what jobs every one had and who got married to who. but when you guys get the chance you need to bombard all of these questions to jk rowling. and try get her to answer! but other than that i cried from page 700 until i found out that harry wasnt really dead.
I ADORE IT! MY FAVORITE, BY FAR! I am disappointed about the information that was left out (especially that which was promised), but there are a million AMAZING moments in there anyway (like "saintlike", Kreacher, Percy, Ron and Hermione's kiss, King's Cross (Dumbledore!), Hagrid carrying Harry's "body" just like he did going to Privet Drive, Snape's loyalty, and, like I said, SO many more!). If JKR tells us the information she promised (on her website, maybe), and some more information on the characters' futures, I'll be happy enough.
book overall was amazing it kept me on the edge of me seat the whole time reading...but things that we were promised didnt show...who did magic late in life and what was soo special about petunia....also the last chapter sucked. we didnt find out what they ended up doing later in life.. but deff the best book of the series
i think that it was probably the best in the series. The final battle was great, but i wish Neville could have killed Bellatrix. Still it was absolutely amazing coming up with the whole Hallows/Horcruxes thing. I thought this was an absolutely fabolous way to finish the greatest book series ever.
I loved it, it was the best one. I know some people found it cheesy in some parts but I thought these parts were ok so I could laugh a little between all the moments I cried with all these deaths. The epilogue could have been better, and it wasn't even necessary (well, it's what epilogues are), but I had a good laugh too. JK answered all the important questions, there wasn't any long and boring part, Snape's name was cleared up and Harry didn't even die !!
omg sooo totally great my fav but i didnt like the epilouge much though but still TOTALLY AMAZING PIECE OF WORK!!! but she totally didnt have to kill so many!!!
I was really disappointed with the epilogue and with the fact that there were a lot of loose ends that didn't get tied up. JKR did have absolutely frentic pacing in trying to keep up with everything she had to wrap up, however, so I suppose that is understandable. I was so sad for all the character deaths, but it was a war, so that had to be expected. Some of the stuff, like Ron and Hermione getting together, Harry being a Horcrux, and Snape loving Lily have been predicted quite accurately by fans for ages, but a lot of things, like Percy redeeming himself, Kreacher joining in on their side, and Dobby dying to save them were quite unexpected. I can only say that reading this book made me hungry for more Harry Potter and sad that there will never be any more.
I can't say I liked it. There was one chapter and a few parts I loved so much, like Tonks and Pettigrew dying. They've been my least favorite characters since they were introduced. I just wish Umbridge could have died. And I felt a lot of people died because she could. I thought a few people were out of character as well. Molly Weasley, cannot defeat a boggart and kills Bella? Remus, only hit with one spell in the entire book series dies? And Voldemort died much too quickly. I honestly sat there and stared at it like "What? That's it? He dies like THAT?" I saw a lot of things she said would be answered that were unanswered. I didn't see anyone do magic in an extreme circumstance. We didn't see what the dementors did to Dudley. But a lot of Snape's reactions in the book where answered for me. I cannot WAIT for Alan Rickman to do the scene where he dies. I LOVE watching Alan acting a dying character.
BLOODY BRILLIANT!!!! WICKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST BOOK EVER!!!! the epilogue left a bit to be desired and the middle was a bit dull. Ron just sat there and complained about being hungry!!! BUT THE PART WITH SNAPE WAS FRIGGIN AWSOME!!!!!! I KNEW HE WAS GOOD I KNEW IT!!!!! TAKE THAT ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO DIDNT HAVE FAITH IN DUMBLEDORE!!!!! SHAME ON YOU BUSHY!!! ( sorry most of you people wont know her ) SEVERUS IS NOW OFFICIALLY MY FAVE CHARACTER!!!!!!! the final battle was awsome! Well thats all i have to sat sooooooo....... BYE!!!
The book was ok. I thought it was wrapped up too fast, still too many loose ends and things glossed over. A lot of things were disappointing, especially when things were added to make other things fit (don't want to say too much about horcruxes here).
Another thing that I forgot to mention was how impressed I was with Neville's leadership. Although, I was a bit sad that he wasn't the one to kill Bellatrix, Molly Weasley kicks ass and I love her. But back to Neville. I nearly cried when Voldemort set the Sorting Hat on fire while it was on Neville's head! I was hyperventilating by that point anyway. Then when Neville broke free and killed Nagini by pulling Gryffindor's sword out of the charred hat made me cry. What a great allusion back to books one and two (book one when Neville himself said he should have been in Hufflepuff and book two when Harry pulled the sword out and what Dumbledore later tells him about that fact). I was touched that he helped so many students leave the castle for safety. All in all, Neville is and will always be my hero. He, above all other characters in Harry Potter has taught me the most about finding a true purpose and calling and being a leader, despite what others might think of me and my abilities. For he, like Harry, made a choice to fight a good fight, regardless of whether he was in danger or not. Perhaps, then, the prophecy also talked about Neville, for he killed Nagini, and although Nagini was not Voldemort, per se, he was a part of Voldemort's soul. It was his initiative, even when Harry asked him just to inform Ron or Hermione to do it that shows me his true strength and loyalty. He will always be one of my top favourite characters. Thank you, Jo, for putting someone so wonderful into your series.
ok the book was absolutly amazing! it was perfect, I think some things could have been better but JKR knows what she wants to accomplish I have a feeling she may write more.... heres a video to remember those who die WANING it'll make u cry lol http://youtube.com/w atch?v=F7SbwWcJYMM
didnt jk say that we were going to find out about the teachers spouses and where they live and just alot more about the teachers? am i missing something? also, no one seems to be mentioning wormtail, and that he died as well. everyone's like, RIP fred, madeye, tonks, lupin, etc. but no one mentioned wormtail. i know he was a scumbag, but i felt bad the way he died.
could someone pleeease answer my questions: why didnt voldermot curcio curse work on harry(after harry came back to life)? and in the final battle, was harry saved bc of his mother protection or bc the everlastng wand was really his? if it was his, why was it his? he stole dracos plain wand not the everlasting one! pppppppllllllleeeaassee e answer!!!!!
I am going to pose a question. I have read a lot of comments about the amount of less than desirable deaths and why those particular characters. I myself wondered a great deal about Hedwig's death, quite troubled by it actually. Okay, so ponder this: Harry is leaving the life he has known for almost 16 years. He is not returning to Hogwarts which was his true home. He is moving on to a much more sinister and unknown world of war. As with the deaths of Sirius and Dumbeldore being explained by JKR to be necessary for Harry to move on and gain the wisdom needed to defend Voldermort, perhaps the death of his Firebolt as well as his beloved friend and one and only comfort when at the Dursley's, Hedwig, was just as neccessary to help exemplify the need to continue to move forward and leave no desire to go back? Tethers to a life that was no more? It seems quite harsh, I know, but it does make me think.
I bet someone has said this, but we did get an answer to who else was in godric's hallow the night the harry's parents were killed... Bathilda Bagshot. She lived in godric's hallow too. The question was not about someone else being in the Potters' house, just in the village.
Hedwig did not need to die, but otherwise, I loved it. Victoire, I believe, is Bill and Fleur's daughter. Hedwig, Dobby, Tonks, Lupin, Fred, Mad-Eye, Snape, Colin --- RIP (DId I miss any good guys). Who did magic late in life? Did I miss it? Was it edited out? Thought the epilogue could have been a bit better, but she can be forgiven, since she gave us the best series ever. Thanks JKR!
Perhaps the unanswered questions are left, to maybe bring back another series? hehe
wow. 21 deaths. but still the best book ever. and the epilouge didnt dissapoint. those couples were ment to be together. but i hate the fact that the series is over. but still BEST BOOK EVERRR
I am sure Teddy lived with Andromeda Tonks (Only Ted and 'Dora passed). And I am sure we were left to assume Victoire was Bill and Fleur's child. Also, I think that Teddy was seeing Victoire off to school, not going (since it was 19 years later).
How come the horocrux inside of Harry wasn't destroyed when he was bit by the basilisk in book two? I am sooo confused! Other that that, I loved the book. (Ps...the person to do magic late in life = Trelawney?)
i loved it, though she didn't answer everything.. i'm happy with that. i think i'd be disappointed if she had answered everything.
i luved the book ..i stayed up till 12:15 in the morning readin it .....i think this is the best yet.....although i do agree with the POLKADOTTEd bout the epilogue thing....but besides that the book was awesome...i appluad u j.k rowling!!! can't wait till tyhe movies come out althoguh i'll be really sad when it's over...:(
So, I finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows last night, or, morning to be correct (4:36 AM). I honestly can't express my feelings on it. The book was absolutely amazing, but now that the series is finished, it feels like there's a gaping hole in my heart, knowing I will no longer be able to look forward to another adventure with Harry Potter. Jo already stated that she wont extend the series, so there's no hope. It still feels like i'm expecting another book, but at the same time I know that it's over with. I know you must all think i'm a huge loser (lol), but i'm totally serious. I've grown up with Harry Potter, almost my entire life. My first-grade teacher read the Sorcerer's Stone to us in class, and that's where it all began. I read the second book by myself after our teacher had finished the first one. When the 3rd book came out, I went and got it and read it too. The same thing happened with each and every book, and as the books got farther along in the series, I became more and more enthralled with the books. It is so enjoyable to read the Harry Potter books, despite how dark they may get. Just imagining Hogwarts, number 12 Grimwauld Place, the Burrow, Dumbledore's office, and all the other imaginative places and characters Jo created. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville, Fred, George, Sirius, and all the other amazingly real characters Jo created all seem like real, living friends to me. I know them all so well, and with the series ending, it almost feels like I have to say goodbye to them forever. I can of course re-read the series, but i'll never have another adventure of the trio to look forward to. After reading the last page of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I feel almost empty inside. Well, I guess the series had to end sooner or later, not that I wouldn't have minded waiting another year or two for the last and final installment in the epic story. But, I have to say that it was definitely my favorite of the series, and that it is proba...
TED TONKS IS NOT A MUGGLE, HE IS MUGGLE-BORN!!!!!!!
I think Jo gave just the right amount of info. to help us all understand but left room for us to wonder. All in all: an incredible love story
Why did Dumbledore want Snape to have the Elder Wand in his original plan?
OMG that was AWESOME!!!! It was sooo different from the other six, but still Jo really hit the nail on the head!! Wow!
after deathly hallows i bet u one thing EVERYBODY WILL LOVE SNAPE hahahaha! well I cant say is my fave, nor the least fave... but I love it n.n!! i cried i laughed... omg! rowling.. u r the best! the epilogue was so weird though... @-@
I loved to book - every crazy, sad, psycho part of it! I'm glad to hear there are other people who couldn't find the answers that I couldn't find either. I do wsh there was more to the epilogue, but I guess she wanted to leave more to our imaginations. We don't know who raised Teddy, but in the epilogue he is 19 or 20, having been born before the final battle. It stands to reason that he might even be living on his own by the epilogue. One character does say that Teddy came to see Victoire off at the train. I would have thought that Draco and Harry would have been closer later on, considering his mother lies to save Harry's life. Meanwhile, after moving I intend to read it again. Much slower this time.
What a wonderful book. Excellent end to an excellent series. Loved the Epilogue; however, would have loved to hear about more. Still - it was wonderful. I am still missing Fred. Sobbed my eyes out over that one. Thanks, JKR.
This book was AMAZING! definitely jo's best in terms of writing, but also in terms of story...i mean there were those like 200 pages where ron and harry and hermione just kind of chilled in the tent and whined, which was kind of annoying, but i think it added to the overall effect of the reader feeling harry's frustration at not knowing where to go, and by the time we heard "potterwatch" we felt as desperate to hear the voices of others from the wizarding world as the trio did. the epilogue was lame...sorry. i want to know what happened to GEORGE, for instance...he lost his twin, after all! and what about the dursleys? and the trio's occupations? and as to the deaths...i was absolutely beside myself about friend and lupin, and i was quite horrified when dobby kicked the bucket as well. i don't think i've ever cried so much while i was reading a book! oh...and THANK YOU JO, for bringing percy back!!
This book will go down in history. I thought it would be hard for jo to make it everything i and everyone else wantedl, but she did she really did. I cried so much at diffiernt randon things, like the on the inside flap where it says "We now present you with the seventhand final installment in the epic tale of Harry Potter" I couldnt stop bawling after that. And when neville said his gran was proud of him and that he was living up to his parents, i smiled so much. The book simply amazed me, and im still in a daze. The fact that its over hasnt taken over that much. But this was the perfect way to end this series, nothing can top it...ever! I love the part where Mrs. weasley calls bellatrix a girl. lol. I totally applaud JKR for putting that line in there. It shows she doesnt just want to be known as a childrens writer, and this book deffinetly shows that. lol. They BETTER keep that line in the movie, it shows Mrs. weasley is strong and will fight for her family. It is the best choice of words, ebcuase that is what any mopther would say if someone was trying to hurt their child or any family member for that matter. Oh and i know this is longgg, but the kiss made me run around and jump up and down. I couldnt help it. years of waiting for that freaking kiss. I was so please. :D
I sobbed uncontrollably when Fred died and at the end. My favorite line was "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU girl!"
awesome awesome awesome awesome!!!!!!!!!!!1 sad but the best ever!!!!!
Oh and I cannot even express how relieved I am that Hagrid didn't die, I thought forsure that he would be a goner, who was the one that was supposed to die but got reprieved?
Wow. I thought the book was pretty good. The beginning was exciting, but I was disappointed about Moody and I thought Hedwig's death was pointless. I got bored in the middle and had to force my self to keep reading. From the time they started using that tent to the time they got caught was pretty much lame. I was disappointed that Ron walked out on them. The end was amazing though. Aberforth was not what I expected. I didn't quite understand what happened though, when Harry went to King's Cross. I was so greatful that Snape wasn't evil. I really hated how Voldemort died though. I wanted there to be an all-out duel between him and Harry. Instead it was like Harry won by default. The epilogue sucked though. I want to know what happened to the Weasley's, expecially George. I thought Fred's death was pointless. Overall, it was AMAZING. Great job, JK.
Best book ever! :D
Wow! I thought it was AMAZING! The beginning was slightly slow, but the ending was better than the first 6 books combined!
i pretty much agree with everyone. the last chapter ruined a great book, i supposed ruined is a strong word.. but it didn't really leave you happy with the result. My only other problem with the book was that it took almost too long for them to actually start on their journey for horcruxes. Much of the book was spent explaining background details..... which i guess is to be expected considering the number of new characters introduced. Overall i really liked it, but i hedwig's death was pretty brutal and kind of unnecessary. I realy wanna know what happens to everyone else...... like the remainder of the weasleys, luna, hagrid and hogwarts in general. hopefully those questions jo will answer in time.
dhfan...1) the crucio didn't work b/c the elder wand didn't have as much power for voldy, because he wasn't the true owner (harry was). 2) The Elder Wand saved Harry, because the wand refused to kill its own master so it killed Voldemort. Because he stole Draco's wand, he had defeated the old master of the Elder Wand, thus getting ownership of the wand. Hope that helps.
I really wish we found out what happened to Luna in the epilogue.. I really liked her. As for Snape, I love him now. I knew he must have been alright, Dumbledore trusted him soo much and he is rarely THAT wrong. I love how Snape wanted to look into Harry's eyes right before he died because they were like Lily's .. SO CUTE! It really hurt when Fred died, same with Dobby and Hedwig.. I haven't cried so much in any book i've read. It was by far the best though, and I don't think she could have done any better =] GO J.K! byyeee harry.. WE LOVE YOU =D
The final battle was pretty captivating, but what was the deal with harry hanging around in a tent for several chapters? And also I did not like the epilogue...I kept having to remind myself I was not reading fanfiction. It sounded just like something cheesy you'd read in fanfic...it didn't seem to fit in well with the rest of the series and the way Jo writes. I would have expected something more witty and fun as opposed to what we got in the epilogue. All in all, still my favorite series of all time, and Jo is my personal hero. But, parts of this book did not seem to fit in with what I would have expected based on the previous six.
I cried my eyes out when Snape died.
