God it was brilliant. Epilogue... Disappointing. It still left room for her to continue writing in my opinion.
ehh i realized now that i dont really like james potter, i mean he was kinda of a ..... yeah. haha. is that bad to say? i mean ive never been a snape fan, but of now i love him and its sad too see that he was til the very end asking for forgivness from the woman he loved! gosh, why didnt he ask teh sorting hat to put him in gryffindor!!! i kinda wished it woulda worked out better for snape :/
From the start the book pulled me in, I felt sad for Hedwig, and mad-eye but I didn't really breakdown until the graveyard in Godric's Hollow when Harry is "....close to wishing that he was sleeping under the snow with [his parents]." Also when Harry learns he is a horcrux and takes a death walk, his thoughts ..... the saddest elements were among what made it such a good book. Hands down the best in the series, and fabulous apart from it as well.
it's amazing. the book was the best in the series. the epilogue was kind of dissapointing but it worked out. i thought it was amazing about snape being in love with lily potter. so many things were left out though don't you think? btw who does snape marry?
i was sobbing pretty much the whole last 100 pages of the book. So many deaths. Especially when Harry turned the Resurrection Stone and his parents and Sirius came out. Wow. Although I wanted to know the whole thing with the veil and the whispers... That never got tied up. Also I'm just going to rant for a moment. I was really frustrated when in the middle of the book, the only thing the trio did was sit in a tent, argue, get mad at each other, eat mushrooms, and complain about not being able to find the horcruxes. Get up off your butts, and go out and look for them! you won't find them if you sit there and talk about it. Okay i'm done. I loved the final battle. i just wish that harry had killed you-know-who rather than his own spell reflecting and killing him. i wanted harry to do it. RIP Hedwig Moody D obby Fred Lupin Tonks Colin Snape who am i missing?
BEST BOOK I EVER READ IN MY LIFE. I LOVE IT. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE IT, AND I WILL TEACH MY CHILDREN TO LOVE IT! LOL. THE EPILOGUE WAS SATISFYING. YOU CAN'T EXPECT HER TO WRAP IT ALL UP. IT'S A PRETTY BIG WORLD TO WRAP... THE BOOK COULD HAVE STOOD WITHOUT THE EPILOGUE BUT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO SENSE OF CLOSURE. WE NEED CLOSURE, THOSE OF US THAT GREW UP WITH HARRY. FROM 13 TO 18 I'VE BEEN WITH HARRY, IT'S BEEN A HELL OF A JOURNEY, AND I'LL NEVER EVER FORGET IT. THANKS JO. P.S. THANKS FOR NOT KILLING RON. I MIGHT HAVE COMMITED SUICIDE IF THAT HAPPENED! LOL
The book was great.... however, the Epilogue was a complete, utter dissapointment.
well i thought it was great! i wanted to know more about what harry, hermione, ginny, and ron did for a living 19 years later. I also was disappointed not to find out what james and lily (harry's parents) did for an occupation prior to their downfall. I also didn't like how the story prior to the epilogue abrutly ended. I wanted to more know about how life went on after voldermort's downfall. But the book was great!
eh, i thought the book was ok, I would have been kinda ok with it if they hadn't killed Lupin and Tonks, especially in the crappy off scene way they did, that make me HATE the book, thought it was awful, and i will never pick it up again :( what about poor Teddy!?!?!? RIP RJL +NTL
Amazing! Absolutely amazing. I came in reading with my ideas of what was going to happen, and she blew me out of the water. There were so many things I never saw coming. First of all Fred, Lupin, and Tonks, I never thought that she would seperate the twins so tragiaclly, and leave yet another baby boy to grow up with out parents. But I should have known better with Rowling, expect the unexpected. As for Snape, MY HERO from now and forever. Well I always loved Snape as my name suggests. When reading "The Prince's Tale" I just wanted to give the little slytherin a great big hug. And don't get me started on Harry's semi-death. All I can say is Rowling has a gift, she protrayed the emotions of the characters perfectly, I felt as though I was standing right there in the middle of the battle field. And I'm not afraid to admit that I even cried a few times.
ok well here is the rest of my post. didnt want to make it too long. this book is definetly a masterpiece, there was the sense of doom and danger and disaster right from the very first paragraph. i seriously thought the way Hermione was thinking SO FAR AHEAD and summoned the books on Horcruxes was really really really lame. like JKR didnt know how to introduce it. idk. i was just expecting them to have to figure it out themselves. it was really cool to know that Dumbledore and Harry had lived in the same neighborhood...at first i thought it was the same house and i almost slapped myself but then i realized it wasnt. the letter from Lily to seiruis was incredibly wonderful. like it showed she really was a person and it was mery sad. KREACHERS TALE was absoultely amazing. i had bo problem believeing that at all. now here is a question. because harry turned out to be a horcrux does this mean there were actually 8????? i listed them all as i read and i got 8 at the end [couting voldy himself] .gfgsfadjs. i was very very mad at JKR [in a good way] FOR MAKING THE ENDING A PYSCH OUT!!!!!!!!!! "voldemort kills harry" "harry your not dead" .fdsfdasfs. big slap in the face i almost threw the book out the window. and HOW HOW HOW HOW HOW HOWWW could she kill FRED!?!?!?!??!?! anyone but him!!!!!! i also wasnt expecting hedwig to die eitther. that was sad. did anyone else see the parallel between Teddy and Harry? both parents dead...yeah yeah yeah. pretty cool. i also thought that it was wierd for the Deathly Hallows to not even play a huge role until the last chapters. oh well. and wow hte epilouge=GAG ME. i mean ALBUS SERVERUS POTTER?? enough said.
AMAZING, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! i thought that this was the best book of the series!! i was dissapointed by the epilouge though, i want to know how george handled freds death....
I thought it was absolutley amazing. I cried so much. I love the loyalty every one shows to Harry throughout the whole thing. It was so touching and well written.
I loved it. Sure Jo didn't mention what James and Lily did for a living nor what the trio ended up doing either, but that didn't really effect the story or the plot just would have been interesting facts. When I read the chapter "Godric Hollows" I was sure I read it somewhere before and finally this morning I realised I did read it, here on MuggleNet. It was one of the contributions to the "Write opening to book 7" contest. Thanks Jo for the sneak peak, even though we had to wait until after we read the book to realise it.
LONG LIVE SNAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!
Of course I loved it! I'm too devoted to the series as a whole to feel any other way. However, I admit I was pretty disappointed with the lack of climacticness. For instance, Snape's death, Petunia's lack of information (what were Dumbledore's other letters to her about??), Pettigrew's death, RAB, and of course, Voldemort's death. I think I've just read too many more interesting theories. I also didn't really like the tie-in of the Deathly Hallows. And yeah, I thought there would be some great revelation every other sentence, so I too was disappointed with the lack of tying up loose ends. However, unlike a lot of other people, it seems, I liked the epilogue. I got all teary-eyed again when it was revealed Harry named his son after Snape. And, of course, I sobbed when Harry was walking to his death. I can't believe Harry is over!!! I'm so glad Jo left a lot of questions unanswered, though. After all, the entire Harry Potter fandom is based on speculating and theorizing! Thank you so much, Jo, for giving us such a great masterpiece! :)
Epic. Just absolutely incredible. Favourite book in the series, by far.
I think Deathly Hallows is my favorite book out of all of them. I couldn't believe so many had died, including Snape. I was really happy to see Snape's story, though. I thought it was a little harsh that they killed Lupin and Tonks right after they had their first child. The ending was great, and I loved the epilogue, but I wish Jo could of told us some of their careers and what else was going down. I'm glad Neville is the professor of Herbology, though. Great book. Oh, and I now respect Dumbledore way more.
Snape was the one character that deserved to live, and he didn't. That ruined the book for me.
A great book and a great ending to it as well. Only problem I had with it was the still lack of information at the end like, what happen to Luna and what did everybody do for a living. The only person we know about is Professor Longbottom but that you could see from a mile away. Still it is by far my favorite of them all, made me laughed at times and it made me cry on more than one ocassion. Thank you Jo.
In the words of Ron bloody briliant. How can one book make you feel so many emotions. I am sad that there won't be any more adventures form Harry, but it had to end at some time. I feel like iv lost a good friend. Although a lot of things were covered in the book I am disapointed that I am still left with questions.
Someone said 21 deaths. There were 50 bodies just in the battle for Hogwarts, let alone the whole book
I really enjoyed the book but the epilogue was awful. It didn't fit in with the rest of the book. I'd have left it at the end of " The Flaw in the Plan". As to the person who started to do magic in their later life, I think the answer is really obvious. It is Professor Trelawney - see Page 519 UK ed. (The Elder Wand chapter). Quote "And with a movement like a tennis serve, she heaved another enormous crystal sphere from her bag, waved her wand through the air, and caused the ball to speed across the hall and smash through a window". In the earlier books she's described as a fraud and had only had one real profesy. I'm pretty sure this is the first time she's done real magic.
What do you mean by who did magic later in life?? I think I must have some how missed this bit but it seems dead important to a lot of you lol. Loved the book so much JK is magical. I cried when i finnished and realised there'd never be the excitment of getting a new Harry Potter book... no idea what would be inside it and reading it for the first time. x
OKAY PEOPLE! VICTOIRIE is a FRENCH name. Who do we know that is FRENCH? And would be Harry and Ginny's kids' COUSIN?? VICTORIE IS BILL AND FLEUR'S DAUGHTER. And also, Teddy came to see her off, he doesn't still go to Hogwarts. **************stardust88: I agree with you on the whole why didn't Dumbledore tell Snape, therefore Harry, about the coming back to life bit. One that Harry had to fully believe that he was sacrificing himself. Two I know Dumbledore trusted Snape, but not that much. He didn't want to tell Snape absolutely everything (like he didn't mention the Horcruxes at all) because he was sending Snape to Voldemort who could very well have broken into his mind. Some may hold all these secrets and lies against Dumbledore, but well, I'm a little for the "greater good" personally. It worked out in the end, didn't it? Although, Dumbledore did admit that he was merely guessing, and although he's brilliant and his guesses are almost always right, he still WAS betting Harry's LIFE on his "guess". But well, see it as you like, I still love Dumbledore :-). Oh and I think Albus Severus is a great name: Notice Albus Severus and NOT Severus Albus. Also, Ron and Hermione's kids are Rose (R for ron) and Hugo (H for Hermione). A lot of people do that, though :-) Bit cheesy, yeah! :-)
I loved it. It was fascinating. I wasn't able to put it down once i started reading it. J.K. Rowling did such a good job. I'm nervous, however, to see what they do with it as a movie goes.
I thought it was incredible. I loved everything.
The first 5 chapters were amazing! Jo really seemed to get into the spirit of the thing, but as the book wore on, I can't help but to be sorely dissappointed. For example why would Dumbledore put so much emphasis on Snape's loyalty when his trust was underdeveloped? Why put so much time writing about N.E.W.T.s when we never learn of the non-marital futures of Harry, Ron and Herminone? What about graduation? Did Hogwarts ever reopen after such destruction? How was it after falling in love with so many characters, we never really spent much time with them in book 7? Why make a one lined reference to Crosshanks (at the Whomping Willow) if the cat didn't make any appearance in the book otherwise and why didn't we ever find out why the feline was so adept at recognising Sirius as "good"? I love the HP series, but Deathly Hallows was slack in it's telling. Sorry Jo. Harry Potter remains my favorite story character but I just don't feel book seven did him justice. Bestest!
i thought the book was the best book i ever read. its the only one that actually had me nervous while reading cause it was so suspenseful. the parts were harry and voldemort battle in the great hall gave me the shivers. also when Mrs.Wheasley called Bellatrix a girl that was soo funny. all in all i was pretty happy with the book except they should have told what happened like a month or so to harry, ron, and everyone else. and the epiloge wasnt all that great. wayy too short and i had way too many unanswered questions. like does teddy tonks stay with now? his grandmother?
epilouge was disappointing after all the hype, but the rest was spectacular. JKR left is wanting more even though we know this is the end :(
who else thinks the deaths of fred and dobby were an unnessecary attack on our poor tear ducts? overall not my favourite. The discovery of the remaining horcruxes felt like somewhat of a cop-out what with harry just tapping voldy's mind. I wanted to see a quest and a dangerous end to the diadem not just oh um ... thanks ... crabbe.
I thought parts of the book were so touching... when Harry goes to his parent's graves, burries Dobby.... but what about the veil? what about so many other things?? why wasn't the epiloge longer?
I thought it was the best by far.... the scene w/ Harry and the Resurrection Stone and his dead loved ones.... I'll admit, I cried. Never once in any of the other books, but I did. Best one yet. (I'll also admit, I'dve like to know what the others ended up doing, but way to go Neville on becoming a Hogwarts prof!)
While there were definitely some things missing, it was a great ending to the series! It was so poignant and emotional. I just wish Jo told us what Harry, Ginny, Ron, Hermione, Luna and the Weasleys did. As well as more backstory to Lily and James.
"who was the person who developed magic powers late in life?" why is everyone asking this question?? i don't get it. was there someone special who was supposed to?? overall i absolutely LOVED the book! it was so good!! there was so much action (besides all the harry/hermione/ron camping) and answers...finally! i thought hedwig and colin's deaths were pointless. i cried so much when fred died! i didn't want the "ninteen years later", that kinda ruined my hopes for there actually being a book 8 in the future. because if there was a book 8 it would have to be 20 years later or something like that. BOO. i much prefer boy harry than grown up harry. i simply can't wait till movie 7, it's gonna be soooo good!! ahh! 2009!
I thought it was really exciting and good. They did a lot of advanced magic and stuff we've never seen in any of the other books. I did miss Hogwarts a little, but not so much since it wasn't even the same anymore. I thought the whole final fight scence at Hogwarts was just sooo freaking amazing! I was crying tears of joy one minute, and tears of sadness the next. I think it left a lot of loose ends still though. Who's head master next? Do Ron, Hermione, and Harry go back to school and get their NEWTS? How do they make a living? Where do they live? Who does Teddy live with if he doesn't live with Harry and Ginny? Does this mean there could be more HP but about them as older? or even about his kids? Speaking of their kids, I thought he could have come up with more original names than they did. Maybe middle names or something. Also, severus as a middle name? WHAT!? He redeemed himself and everything, but that still did not make up for him treating Harry horrible all 6 years just because he was jealous of his father, I dont think he deserved that. That's all!
i dont care what anybody thinks! i absolutely lOVED it and i think it is the best one yet. however sucks to be the ppl who spoiled it for themselves by reading it on the net first hey! lol i loved it best out of all 7 books! and i dont c any plot holes? if nybody can can you please email me at lotr_girl89@hotmail.com and besides i never heard the rumor that somebody non magical would show any powers! also JK never puts anything inter her stories that are not relevant and if she does, they need no explanation! cheers, as hleigh 'ear, 'ear JK ROWLING Voldy's gone mouldy!!!
My mom said that I might feel disappointed at the end, but she was wrong. I think JKR ended it the best way she possibly could! She is that best author on earth! Hurray for JKR!
I loved the whole story!!! it was absolutely amazing! i mean of course there are some things that i wish we could've found out, but man.... it's definately not what i expected!!!! and that's okay!!!! the only time i really cried was when Harry saw Snape's memory where Dumbledore says that Harry HAS to die, and man... I just cracked. I didn't want Harry to die!!! but then I was okay when he was having that conversation with Dumbledore in his head and i was like... wow Harry was a Horcrux. But omgsh.... the part that ABSOLUTELY made me just break out crying was something happy, when Harry and Ginny were seeing off Albus and James.... omg..... when Harry said "Albus Severus" I just broke into tears. that was so happy!!!!!! I was like, "Awwwww!" it was just a great moment for me. "He was probably the bravest man I ever knew." it just made me cry, but a happy cry. =]
im still reading the book, im a really slow reader. yeah i know, i should b done already.......
I personally loved it! I thought the whole book was exciting and gripping, and I absolutely love the way it ended (the Epilogue) I really liked it. I am aware that many thought the Epilogue sucked, but I am not one of them. This is easily my favourite book.
It was a good book, I mean it could have been better, but I'm just upset that Fred died, I thought that it would be George, or Percy instead, like he comes back to the good and fights to the death. I actually welled up a number of times, tears fell for Dobby, the only part where I didn't stop them. The epilogue was not good. We just had a discussion group thing at college, and we were wondering where was Snapes portrait? We figure out that the sword must go back to the hat, because Griphook did in fact die. I love Mrs. Weasley and Neville they were amazing! I wish we found out more about what happened to everyone. Did Luna and Dean get together? Who did magic later in life? What happened to the Dursleys. And in the group we figured out that the Kings Cross station represented Harrys crossroads, a decision that he must make, the crossroads are presented many times throughout mythology. I hope that JKR answeres some of our questions, because they need to be otherwise I won't think that the series is over until all of my questions are put to rest.
i loved the book and thought it was probably the best one, but i really didn't like the epilogue, and think the book would have been better without it. i hoped she could have just shown a couple hours later, harry kisses ginny, we find out who the new head of hogwarts is, etc....
I finished the book less then ten minutes ago at 3:55 PM. It's 4:08 PM right now and I am just shocked. My GOD, WHAT A BOOK! The battle at Hogwarts was just...just amazing! I thought, what if she's not good at battles like some authors are, what if she doesn't really right about it and instead just mentions it in passing once or twice before the trio gets whisked away for whatever reason so she can avoid it but, NO, SHE WAS GREAT! Oh man, I LOVED THE BATTLE AT HOGWARTS! And I loved when Harry was 'dead'. It was so well written. Everyone's reaction was so emotional to me. I'm just stunned. I'm not even sure what I'm writing, it's just...IT'S SUCH A GREAT BOOK! However, I am dying to know what happened to Luna, George and is Mr. and Mrs. Weasley are still alive. Speaking of witch (heh, 'witch','which' *rimshot*) ROCK ON, MRS. WEASLEY! Whooo, she said the 'B' word at Bellatrix, and killed her. And NEVILLE! I LOVE NEVILLE! ;___; I wept hard over Dobby...and I'm more than a little shocked that he don't know how George dealt with losing Fred. I confess myself shocked over that...I don't know how Rowling could think we wouldn't wonder about it. OVERALL, My FAVORITE BOOK. Rowling has outdone herself in the writing department. Anyone who EVER again says this book is only for children is, pardon my language, a darn fool. ^^;
i thought the book was brilliant!! although, i quite agree that i would have liked to know more information. for example: harry, ron, hermione, and ginny's professions. what george has done with his life whether he's married. who malfoy is married to. luna and what she's up to. but these facts are just my curiosity and have nothing what-so-ever to do with the book and how wonderful it was. honestly, i think the ending was perfect!!! i'm so sad that i won't be able to feel that mounting excitement for another new harry potter book, but for the next few years, we still have the movies! i'm sad that fred had to die, and i would love to ask jkr why she picked him. now, i have to read books 1 through 7!
I feel bad to comment again, but when Trelawney starts taking Death Eaters with crystal **** I nearly spit up the water I was drinking. I truly hope they keep that in the movie. David Heyman if you are reading, please keep that scene!
all in all though, it was one of the best. the epilogue wasn't even required, she put it in to make the fans happy. i made it a point to finish the story sitting on the same couch as i was when i started the sorcerer's stone. thanks for the memories
I. LOVED. IT. Amazing, except for the epilogue. The battle was fantastical. I will miss those who died, specially Fred. And poor Snape, he didn't have to die. Voldie was just too stupid to see who the Elder Wand belonged to. Course, if he did, he would've realized that it was with the person he has been trying to kill for what? Sixteen years? Heehee. I thought it was awesome.
Best. Book. Ever. Its sooo OMFGG!!!!!!!!!!1111111111 11 =] I can't believe Fred died... and Dobby... and Remus and Tonks! And right after Ted was born!!!!! -weeps- Anddddd the epilogue was like a very [veryxINFINITY!!!] well-written fan fiction. And James is ADORABLE! "You can't give your professor love..."
