SPOILERS!! This book was my favorite. Although...the amount of people dying was saddening! I cried for Fred and Hedwig most.
did harry actually die and then come back, or was he in a type of limbo (becasue Voldemort couldn't kill him since he had hArry's blood)
Epilogue was definitely not as good as i expected it after reading it i realised it would've been better if people themselves could've imagined how they wanted it to end instead of having a definite post-ending end. Other then that, book was great :) not too much hogwarts though :(
I loved it! I cried a lot though. And I think the epilogue could have been more in depth. But overall I loved it!
*sigh*.....I wish I wouldn't have read the Epilouge, but other than that it was AMAZING!!!! Also, i would like to know who the muggle/squib who used magic was.....oh well.....GREAT JOB JK
The book was okay. I hated the epilogue. And what did the deathly hallows have to do with anything since no reference was in any prior book. I was hoping for more on Harry/Ginny especially since love was what Dumbledore said Harry had that Voldy did not. Why kill off Lupin & Tonks and what happened to their son?
amazing. i absolutely loved the battle at hogwarts, how neville became the 'leader' for all the kids at school, and all of snape's memories. the princes tale i think is my favorite chapter in the whole series.
I loved it. I liked the sixth book more though. What I hated most was how ron could open the chamber. First of all he is not a parsletongue, and he is not the heir of slytherin either. I also hated how JKR said we would see all these things and still so many questions remained unanswered. For example how lily and james got togethere? The veil, whats behind it? Harry was also supposed to get a new pet...he did get buckbeak but for an animal to count as a pet i though you should own it for more than 5 seconds. Where did Fawkes go? What were Lily and James jobs? What were the trios jobs?So many more unanswered questions, thats what I'm most...peeved about. I loved when Harry tortued the Carrows for spitting in McGonagals face. I love Fred and Georges funny moments and quotes, rons sarcasm throughout the book ("oh dont let it bother you, it's me im extremly famous"). I loved Kreacher ("FIGHT FOR MY MASTER AND IN THE NAME OF THE BRAVE REGULUS"). overall it was good, but the epilogue...ugh i was expecing so much more from that
Absolutley loved the book!!! The epilogue was only put in to leave the story open for a couple of years down the line when JK gets bored! I give her 3 years at the max before Hogwarts the next generation hits the shelves!!!
all i can say is that i'm flabbergasted. it was soooo intense and there was so much information. as great as i thought it was (and it was pretty amazing) i think there should've been a lot more information included...but she did a good job with what she DID put in. the epilogue, as cute as it was, seemed very incomplete and i wish she'd have included the fates of more characters and more details of what happened to them simply because we care about more characters than just the trio...even though they are a big part. overall though, it was a VERY exciting book and extremely well done. i thought that i wouldn't reread harry potter for a long time after i finished book 7, but its only been a day since i've finished and i already want to reread the entire series! =)
i absolutely loved the book!!! it was amazing how harry ron and hermione worked together to find the horcruxes and everything. i cried so much at the deaths and the last few chapters..i thought harry had really died and i didn't understand it..but the next chapter was a relief. it was an amazinggggg book. definately the best out of all of them.. but we never found out who did magic late in life, what harry's eyes looking like lily's had to do with the story, and why do ghosts become ghosts when they die? overall it was spectacular. i have never felt this way about anything in my entire life..i do feel sort of depressed though....no more harry potter. but i do hope that jk rowling writes more books on history before hogwarts and all that good stuff. i still feel sad about it all, but happy at the same time because voldemort was finally defeated and it ended happy. so i guess i should be happy, we the fans got what we wanted..it ended like it should have. these books have changed my life, i swear. it's amazing, the series. all i can say is..THANK YOU JK ROWLING
I really do love it. No book has ever made me cry so much, most of all Dobby. I was wailing. The deaths were terrible, but understandable. Even Colin, it showed how random and unpredictable death can be. I liked the period of frustration the trio went through. It made the story more real. And the epilogue, while I really wish it had been much, much, much longer and explained much more (Teddy, Luna, the occupations of the trio, Kreacher even, Headmaster of Hogwarts, etc...), was thoroughly enjoyable and said what needed to be said. I have absolutely no disappointments with this fantastic story. Thank you Jo. I'm off to read it again, and again, and again. My favorite of the series (7,6,5,3,4,1,2)
Just one thing: Snape is not 'good' He was a hero for what he did. But he did it (mainly) because of his love and obsession for one women. He was cruel in nature and hurt many people. One of the main messages in the books is that the concept of good and bad people is too simple and does not work in real life.
Well, I botched my last post, I should have quoted Ripley as saying, "Get away from her, you girl." Otherwise the comparison to Mrs. Weasley didn't make much sense. The person doing magic late in life (who I kept hoping would be Petunia, despite JKR's denials) appears to have been Merope Gaunt Riddle, who was a Squib until she managed to make a love potion that made Tom Riddle marry her. I'm still puzzled about where I got the idea that JKR had said that Harry was not a Horcrux. I was so positive he wasn't, despite the obvious psychic connection between Harry and Voldemort, that I was literally stunned when Dumbledore told Harry in King's Cross that he was. Loved the explanation of Dumbledore's "gleam of triumph."
it just occured to me that TONS of stuff will be cut. like all the excess that the movie makes deem "non-important" that gives us chills. i just made my "in loving memory of colin creevey, page 694" shirt. i plan on wearing it at as often as possible.
For those of you saying how the deaths were pointless - I think that's the point, no? Deaths resulting from a war is pointless. Which really says that one man's greed led to the deaths of many. The responsibility that Harry also feels about the deaths are also what makes Harry, Harry - the difference between him and Riddle. And, I think those of you feeling that you who now dislike Dumbledore are only remembering his conversation between him and Snape, and forgetting the one he has with Harry in the end chapters. And I think I saw a comment about how Teddy shouldn't have been on the train - I think James was the one that said that Teddy was "saying" goodbye to Victoire. I don't know if I personally care what jobs that the characters have, but I also would have liked to have found out about some of the old questions that were discussed here. I wonder if anyone's actually going to read this post! haha.

Good book............a few things i would like to know....what happen to the dursleys.......and krecher-he sort of helped harry a lot and became good....woulld have wanted to know what happens in the end about them...........my favourite chapters in the book were: krechers tale and princes tale (dunno if thats thye name of the chapters but i am sure you know what chapters it is*********************** *************SOMEONE ANSWER: 1) Who did magic late in life?.....2) Where was rons car? 3) would have wanted to know more behind the veil in tghe department of mysterires. other than that it was good....book 6 might have beaten it though.....not sure :)
wow....definately my favorite Harry Potter book-the battle at Hogwarts was amazing...the deaths made me sad...i really wish Remus Lupin had stayed alive though...now Teddy's an orphan =[ the epilogue bothered me though. i like hearing what happens the the trio, but it had kind of a fanfiction-like taste to it...and it didnt tell you what happened to most of the characters. Where's Teddy Lupin living? What happened to the rest of the Weasleys? What about the rest of the Order? Yeah, could have done without the epilogue...but other than that, amazing...i had tears in my eyes =]
I agree with lycaonpictus77. the epiloge was just like a fan fiction. I was excited for Harry and Ginny though! i've been rooting for them ever since PoA!
NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU girl!!!! CLASSIC! and the epilogue was great-- the Albus Severus speech was great; my favorite part of the book.
I thought that it was cheap that Harry got to choose whether or not he died .... i mean... i understand that because of the Elder wand and the piece of Voldemort's soul in him that he really deserved a second chance, but honestly... JKR always said "whoever is dead is dead and there's no coming back" excpet of course for Harry. Not that I'm complaining because I wanted him to survive obviously, but that was just too easy... you know what I mean???
the book was absoloutly perfect. i wish i could find a better word to describe it because perfect doesnt exactly cut it for me. the way everything fell into place was completely mind-boggling. the part about the deathly hallows was 100% the best thing ive ever read in my life. I also loved harry and dumbledores talk at kings crossing. the reoccuring theme of love really hits home for me. the fact that it is over though is hard to fathom. its bittersweet.
Amazing, best in the series. I only didn't like the epilouge.
mixed some daths shouldntve happend but i am SO comfunded bout whose kids are whose--(who are potters, who are weasly is it james, 12; albus, 11; Lily, 9; POTTER and Rose, 11; Hugo, 9 WEASLEY and victoire or w/e is bill's daughter--also rose was named after hermione's mom right?
I absolutely LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not happy with Voldemort's ending. I could cry just thinking about how something that should have been so great...felt rushed, and so mediocre. I'm disappointed beyond words right now. :[
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the best ever!!! Way to end the series!... Even though I thought the parts concerning Snape were really really sad, and how George lost and ear, and Tonks, Lupin, Fred, Colin Creevy, Dobby, and all those other people died... And the epilogue wasn't the best but it'll do. JK Rowling really did her best and she probably couldn't fit in any more info anyway... But I wonder if Harry did end up as an auror and Hermione probably ended up as head of the Magical Creatures or whatever department... And Kreacher should have been in the epilogue too.
I loved the entire book up until the last 50ish pages. Harry's death was cool - his convo with dumbledore and his return to reality all done well. It starts to break down for me when they get to the great hall and its harry vs. voldemort. The edler wand plot device here just doesn't fit well. So if anyone for the rest of harry's life disarms him - that person will master the wand? It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense and is a bit contrived. Voldemort being taken out by a single rebounding avada kedavra is also dissapointing. Then after all that - we don't even get to celebrate? To say goodbye to our most beloved characters? The finale after voldemorts death is weak, and feels even weaker because it is followed by the semicheesy epilogue, that feels like it should have been worked on more. Just a few complaints, not trying to be a nitpicker - a lot of loose ends are able to be tied up if you really think about them. Its just the final 2 chapters that were weak to me. A few hours extra work and maybe 20 pages would have made it perfect.
and i loved the bit in the epilogue where Harry tells Albus that Severus was one of the bravest men he ever knew! Teddy wouldnt have lived with Harry cuz his Grandmother (Tonks' mum) would still be alive. Only Ted Tonks died. And i reckon that ther person earlier who said Ted Tonks is the person who did magic late in life...fixing Harry's leg...is right.
Long live Harry Potter!! My deepest sympthy to Fred, Tonks, Lupin, Mad eye and all the others who died to save Harrys world!! I luv Jk Rowling!!
I know people will probaly never read this, sicne their are so many comments, but it really was a great book, and if you look at all of the other books (you see, I read all of the books this week, and then the 7th, in 2 days to take it all in) you can see that the epilouge didn't need to be big. Just like the final battle with Voldemort, it didn't need to be big, b/c if you think about it, this fight has been going on for seven books. And so has the journey to the epilouge. I'm sure we can all agree that up to that point everyone was still alive, no one died of old age (except Ron's grandma, but who cares) and that they are still good friends. But with jobs, i'm sure Luna would follow in her dad's footsteps, Neville was obviously a teacher, Harry an Aurua, Hermione probaly did something that required you to be smart, Ron ,i'm sure, did something with the Ministry since he was always saying how stuff should be organized (though I don't beleive he would be Minister, for it can be assumed that Kingsley later got full Minister status). So all in all, this book may be the last part in the series, but when you look at it their really has only been one Harry Potter book and what i mean is that if JK really did come up with them all it once she knew it would be too long, and she needed to break it up. So in otherwords this book series is really like an Ameican Harry Potter goes to Hogwarts book thing that is 4,100 pages (combination of all book pages). So that is how I took the book.
i loved the book!! i was totally sad over the deaths...dobby, fred, lupin, tonks, mad eye....but i loved kreacher, he was awesome. all was good, however, i do agree with most of you, there were many parts unanswered. what were lily and james jobs? what was so important about fawkes? who performed the magic later in life? why was it so important that ginny was the only female weasley in many generations? why do some people become ghost while others don't? in the end, what were the trio's jobs? what happened to the dursleys? weasleys? malfoys? luna? i think we would have all liked to know.
All RIGHT! I Thought it was brilliant. Although she was wrong about me not having questions! There have been so many buzzing through my brain since saturday night. For one, what in the world was up with the veil?! She never answered that! Where does the veil lead to? The other side? Were the eyes just important because that weaas the only thing that made snape think of lily? They gave him no special powers correct? What in the world did they become? What were their professions? I hope she either posts it on her web site or writes something about it I personally thought the epilogue was... well rushed and honestly not exciting. I wish she had spent more time on it. What are they? Is Harry an auror? Or is it like he said? "too much excitement for a life time" or whatever. But other than that I really did love it. The deaths were probable, they were in a war. Fred hit me pretty hard though. I knew the moment she said she killed off two people she had first not intended to kill off it had to be tonks and lupin... so i braced myself for that one. It was well written and the plot was amazing, I did get bored when they weren't really doing anything but it was probable. they had to have time to think. I'm very happy with the book. I just didn't like the epilogue. haha. Nice job JK. Loved it alot.
Snape's death slayed me. It was so, so, so sosososososo sad. The epilogue left some things unanswered, though I did like Albus Severus, hee. Otherwise, the book was awesome, I loved it.
this book blew me away. i enjoyed every second i was reading it. fantastic imagery and connections to each of the novels. the quest was nothing but epic and the deaths were nothing but heart-wrenching. i cannot believe how precise each word of this entire series has come to be in the end. yes, the epilogue did leave a little undone, but i am most definately not disappointed at all. beautifly put together! long live harry!!
Twas a great book! but i thought that sirius was supposed to come back in some way or form...but he didn't and i agree that the epilogue could have been better, but altogether it was really good!
My feeling on this...it was one of the best in the series (and has encouraged me to re-read the entire series consecutively to find the clues that led up to this one). I'm going to have to ask my husband to get my copy of "Half-Blood Prince" out of storage so I can re-read it when the time comes. As far as unanswered questions -- to me, it's an indication that she's going to revisit this world again at some point, although not necessarily with Harry as the lead character. She might do a prequel leading up to the introduction of Harry Potter ala "The Hobbit", or go somewhere completely different (there will always be dark wizards, after all). But I'll look forward to it if she does revisit it again. The epilogue didn't bother me so much -- to me, it's a matter of she wanted to show their relationships over what they're doing now. You do find out a lot in that chapter. Harry and Ginny are married, Ron and Hermione are married, Neville is a Herbology professor and is at their place for dinner once a week, Ted Tonks is at Harry and Ginny's place all the time. These relationships were never severed, and have only grown stronger as they got older. And that, I am satisfied with.
I MISS FRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! *sob* i was definitely very disapointed that jk didnt give ANYTHING of georges reaction to his twins death...i mean come on, they were always together in the first 6 books and never ever seen apart until now. youd think she would at least put him crying or something but no, just kneeling at freds head. i had to resort to reading fanfics of georges reaction and they had me crying my eyes out. other than that i really loved the book. i cried quite a few times. i was SO happy that she had ron/hermione and harry/ginny married at the end. i thought that was good. now no one will wonder what happened. but im still curious about several things. for example, who was the squib that used magic late in life? unless i missed that, which i'll admit is possible at the speed in which i was reading, it was not in the book. snape, FRED, mad-eye, tonks, lupin and all others who died... R.I.P. *cries some more*
I recently got my brother hooked to the Harry Potter series. Yesterday, he finished HBP and called me. I told him my opinion that Deathly Hallows was by far the best of the 7. He was incredulous, stating that nothing could top the last 100 pages of HBP. I thought to myself, "wait till he reads about the REAL
i thought this was positively the best book ever! i wasn't disappointed by the epilogue. everyone knew hermione and ron would get together in eventually. i'm glad harry and ginny got back together. i don't think it was long enough. it could have had more information. i was extremely sad when mad eye, dobby, and lupin died. :(
People! People! Has it occurred to anyone that maybe - just maybe - the epilogue was simplistic and undetailed so as to leave an opening for a future tale? A tale whose details haen't been worked out yet? A girl can hope.
well....im not sure. i mean...it WAS good. but i felt like i knew everything that would happen before it did. it was all soooo obvious. and their were plot holes and i felt like the horcrux hunt was a little too easy??? andd i didnt like the epiloge....i mean whatever happend to luna?? percy? the rest of the weasleys?? she said she finished it in a way that no one else could write anymore hp books...but i feel like she wrote it the perfect way so people could. honestly, the epiloge was like a crappy fanfiction =[. but i loved the contrast between hallows and horcruxes. it was like the differences between harry and voldemort. there are so many but still they are soooo alike. too many empty promises though...where was the ford angelina?? the one who had powers late in life?? i cried when dobby died. i want a shirt that says that now. i would have like to find out what james and lilys jobs had been. and harry, hermione, ron and ginnys too. =[
I love the book and hate the book.I hated that Fred,Remus,Tonks and Snape died. Was it said anywhere why Harry's eyes were so important???But anyway,I liked the book but I felt the end was the end. There could have been more in the epilogue but oh well.I'm glad the trio survived and Harry and Ginny got back together and had kids and so did Hermione and Ron.I will reread this book over and over again like I did the others.I cried a lot.More than I did last 2 books.I can't believe it's over now.I've grown up with it and now it's done, finished.I wished more was in the epilogue about the rest of the characters just so we'd know what happened to them.
It was sooooooo good!! The only death I actually cried for was Dobby's. Seriously, it was so sad!! I'm really glad that Snape turned out to be good, cause the whole book except for the end it was like, how could anyone actually get a good snape theory out of this and then WHOA! It's really scary how accurate some people's theories were, especially about the R.A.B. and Kreacher thing. I actually liked the ending, especially since Neville's the Herbology teacher. Yay!!
A few questions if you can help - 1) who was the unexpected witch or wizard?? 2) what did dudley see from the dementors?? 3) what is on the u.s. cover?? I'm pretty sure a lot of people wanted these answered, so if you can figure any out, that would be so helpfull!! A few comments: go neville!!!!! and molly weasley!!!!! and kreacher (poor kreacher, the story about regulus/the inferi were so sad!) !!! and dobby?????!!??? i am still crying about him.... and poor snape.... that's all for now! if you can answer.....
i have an idea..... Lets all grill Jo on her online chat in a week. lets beg for what we were promised. like the magic later in life, everyone's jobs....
DOES ANYONE ELSE FIND IT ODD THAT ON MUGGLENET'S LOGO-BANNER (FROM OOTP MOVIE POSTER) THE PEOPLE WHO DIE ARE GROUPED TOGETHER, AND ON THE RIGHT?
What a great final installment....how did they get the sword of Gryfindor back from Griphook? Neville killed Nagini with it, but wasn't it taken after the events at Gringotts...? I loved how Narcissa betrayed Voldemort at the end...very cool.
it was my favorite out of the entire series. and i thought the epilogue was great.
