The was amazing, I loved everything right from the beggining. I loved the first chapter and how Ron came back. Very glad that the whole issue with Sanpe was resolved, and that Harry realized he was indeed good. The last 3 chapters were REALLY good and unexpected. How everything happened after he came back was breath-taking in every moment. And how Neville killed Nagini was perfect!
SHE KILLED MY TWO FAVORITE CHARACTERS! I swear, if Tonks and Lupin were the two she didn't intend on killing...and we didn't even get to find exactly what happened to them. Dobby had a more dramatic death! Still, they did get married and have a baby (not that we really got see much from either event) but...urgh. And Emerson, I think you must be a horcrux of J.K Rowling. I didn't any spoilers for this book but I feel as though I had because your theories were too accurate!!
I must say that I loved the book!! I do have a question though. On page 745 it says that Neville had "the sword of Gryffindor". How did he get the sword? Griphook took the sword at the vault and Neville wasn't there.
the epilogue was awesome! i don't know why you guys say it was bad, i thought it the perfect way to end the series. i cryedwhen hedwig died. it was the best book so far!
I really enjoyed reading the seventh book. I laughed and I cried, sometimes within the same page. This book certainly had a different feel to it whether it was the story or I couldn't get over the surrealism that I was reading it. The only thing that I disliked was in the epilogue, I don't feel like it told enough about people afterwards. What happened to the rest of the Weasley's, especially George? And stuff like that. But it was a great read and I loved every word of it.
first part: *SUFFERING* OOOOOOMMMMMMMMGGGGGGG!!!! ! THIS IS A BLOODBATH!!!! middle: *Jumping up and down* Getting good! Getting great! Getting AWesome!!!!!! end: *FREAKING OUT* THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I IMAGINED IT WOULD BE AND BETTER! JO'S A GENIUS! MY FAVORITE! BEST BOOK EVER! I'M #1 FAN OF TEDDY REMUS LUPIN AND ALBUS SEVERUS POTTER AND BELLATRIX IS A B+TCH!!!!! 'EAR! 'EAR! In short, this is the best book and i absolutly love it from the bottom of my heart!!!!
Wow, simply amazing, I am so happy that Harry finally got the life he deserved, but I am so sad that there will be no more Harry Potter.
AWESOME! Best Quote Ever: "She tasted disgusting, worse that Gurdyroots! Okay, Ron, come here so I can do you..." Page 523 Plot holes I wish were filled: Rita Skeeter being revealed as an unregistered Animagus. What happened to Umbridge (I hope they shipped her sadistic arse to Azkaban). What happened to Luna? (anyone else notice the smidgeons of a Luna/Dean relationship) Who raised Teddy? (I assume that he was raised by his grandmother Andromeda) Who the hell is Victoire and is she named after Viktor Krum? (I assume that she is probably Bill and Fleur's daughter) What do Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny do for a living? (Hermione doesn't stike me as the stay-at-home-and-raise-th e-kids type) Does Viktor's fame as an international Quidditch star ever get him a steady girlfriend? Do the Potters move into 12 Grimmauld Place? What happened to the Dragon? (Does Charlie track it down, and take it to Romania?) As a whole, I think that this was a terrific book, and an excellent end to the series. I for one like how the Harry Potter series ended, and am perfectly content leaving the story as it is. If JKR does anymore books set in this world, (But not necissarily following the trio) that would Awesome! Here's hoping that there may be a pre-quel sometime in the not to distant future.
Lairyfights06-I have the US edition and Mrs. Weasly DOES run at Bella screaming "not my daughter, you B****!" I loved that! I laughed out loud for the first time in many many many chapters. Rock on Mrs. Weasley! Did it seem to me that JK used a lot more swearing than normal (besides Ron's old "bloody hell's") ? I mean, Hermione said darn twice, Harry said it a few times too I think, so did Ron maybe. I loved Hermione and Ron, together at last, but their first kiss was too rushed-JK should have added another at the end.
NEVER explained: Why do some people remain as ghosts? or was it? Did I read to fast? Also, did anyone else feel that as romantic as Snape's love for lily was, he shouldn't have based his entire life's decisions on love for a woman that never went to him more than a friend, I mean? Although I know the moral of the story is about love and sacrifice, he utterly hated Harry and showed no sign of compassion for him unless he looked into one of his memories and saw Lily and James in the mirror or something. It seems extreme that he based his entire life's decisions since he was 9 on his infatuation with Lily. Also, really cute: Lily's patronus was a doe, and James was a stag! How perfect!
I just also want to say that JK put the epilogue 19 years later because the story ended 1998 and 19 years later is 2007 thats means he had kids at 25 and teddy lupin is 19 years old .bye :)
the book was by far THE BEST!!!!!!! i loved how they were traveling throughout the enire book....and the HUGE battle at hogwarts.....and everything else was completley amzing!!! the epilogue was cool.......but i do see where people come from when they say it was dissapointing only cause it was very un-specific about what was going on in thier lives 19 years later...i hope JK rowling keeps writing books even if it isn't about harry potter.......
I think that Jo gave us all a most satisfying conclusion to a long complex tale. I need to read the book again, but I miss the humor that so so nicely balanced the dark passages of the earlier volumes.
The book was amazing. The whole thing with Dumbledore was humbling. He seemed to be too perfect and to see that he had these flaws made him… human. It made him vulnerable and showed us that there were reasons why he did what he did. The deaths were heart breaking and even before I knew the whole story about Snape, his death was hard to read. The epilogue showed life moving on. Of course it was cheesy, but I would not want it any other way.
The book possessed all the elements to become an instant classic. I laughed. I cried. I was terrified throughout the whole thing, but my trepidation shows just how wonderfully JKR can write. I absolutely loved it; it was amazing: my favorite definitely. It was weird, though. I cried the hardest when Dobby died. Harder than I did for Dumbledore or Snape. I didn't realize how much Dobby meant to me.
To me, the best part was when Snape told Harry to look at him when he was dying. This way the last thing he saw were Lily's eyes, the only person he ever loved. I think that explains so well the importance of Harry's eyes! It was a very beautiful and intense scene! I can't believe it's over! No more stories, no more adventures, no more books...
Merope did magic late in life.
Reading comments so far: I LOVED the book. I felt very satisfied. Some of the things that people didn’t like (the epilogue, boring in the middle) were things I loved. I loved the sense of generations, and that the epilogue people were being born into an ongoing story, as was Harry when he was born. It feels like real life. Same with the camping in the middle, and not knowing HOW to find the horcruxes. It made the action sections feel more real when they happened. I cried, I laughed. I love that JKR is able to make humor happen even in difficult places. It makes it easier to stay present when things are painful. The deaths were very sad, but the story kept it's meaning the whole way through. I love it!
HAHA CharlieLaz I LOVE YOU! That's one of my favorite Simpson's episodes!!!
This book was everything I imagined it would be and more. I thought I'd be really sad or depressed after reading it because it's the last book but instead I felt a strange sense of peace. I actually liked the epilogue (though I agree I wanted to know the occupations of the various survivors). I felt that the final words were a beautiful way of offering closure. I was extremely saddened by NT & RL dying, that really hit me hard because they were my favorites (and an adorable odd couple) but I understand that unnecessary deaths are frequent during wartimes. Altogether, she wrapped up most of the loose threads rather nicely, esp. the Snape debate.
Oh, and I ditto loopylunatic's comment about all the minor details. I, too expected that some things would not be covered, and that it would just seem like a boring laundry list if everything was crammed in--there would have been no flow to the text that way.
AMAZING. This book was by far my favorite. I must admit, I was really disappointed with the ending. I mean, Harry kills Voldemort and then the book ends two pages afterward?? The epilogue was not at all to my taste either. There are so many questions left unanswered. I'm dying to know what happened to the dursleys, the weasleys, kreacher, etc. They didn't even state what Harry's career was! The beginning of the book and the ending were so well put together. I couldn't stop turning the pages! But, the middle was kind of like "run away, fight, run away, fight" with harry, ron, and hermione.
Amazing. absolutly amazing. my question is who's victorie? since james said cousin. and harry doesnt have siblings. and its not Ron and hermione's my only guess would be Fleur and Bill had a child. agree?
I stayed up all night and read the book in ten hours and I'm starting my second read, but I was very much disappointed with the epilogue. I expected it to give more of an idea of where the various characters went from that point on (their careers, etc.). And I thought 19 years was a long gap. I was disappointed that Neville really never got revenge for his parents on Bellatrix Lestrange though I did enjoy Molly at that conflict. Can't picture the Molly of the movies responding like that though. I also wondered if perhaps Neville's parents might not heal if she were dead. Also, I LOVED Dumbledore and then all of a sudden he became so flawed and then I did not like him as much - more I think because he really cared more about "The Greater Good" - i.e. Harry dying to save the world - than about Harry! Even if he did realize Harry might be spared in the end because of Voldemort taking his blood. I really like Minerva alot and so I was glad she lived. And then, what about Teddy? If Harry was his godfather, who raised him instead? Did Tonk's mother survive? Anyway, yeah, I was disappointed, but I enjoyed reading it a lot too.
Intense from beginning to end. I absolutely loved every page. As sad as I am that it is over, I was excited to turn each page. I have started to re-read and am already picking up on things I missed the first time. I love that she left open a door in the epilogue. She left a door open, people!! We can always hope she may answer more questions later... As for now, I am blissfully happy with the journey I have been on. Thanks, Jo. We never get to pick our obsessions, they just happen. I am grateful for Harry Potter. He was a great obsession...
The epilogue sucked so bad.I hated it,but the book was great.
AAAHH! I've been reading them for 8yrs and Im soo sad that they are all over! (at least we have the movies to look forward to). The book was great but it did leave some empty promises though. And yay i knew Snape was good all along!!! The whole Lily and him thing was sad. And where when he died he said to harry "look at me" b/c of his green eyes! GAH I cried!! He did turn out to be the tragic hero at the end! He is definatly my favorite character ;) But what i didnt like was the last chapter. I think its... nice... that the kids were named that but it seemed a little fanfic to me. RIP Lupin, Tonks, Hedwig, Dobby, Moody, Fred, aaand SNAPE!! (did i forget anybody?)
Loved the book overall...hated that Fred had to die...why couldn't Percy have died saving Fred? I would have really liked to have seen the funerals for Fred, Tonks, and Lupin as I would have liked the chance to say goodbye to some really beloved characters. Not enough info in the Epilogue...that was a bit disappointing.
It felt more like a fanfiction than it did an actual book, with all the ever changing back story and huge new portions of the magical world we hadn't yet seen. The epilouge seemed hollow to me, but I'm sure it meant something to JK and that's what counts. I really just wanted to know if Teddy was raised by Harry, who could have had a chance to give him the life he never was able to live out with Sirius. Overall, I'm glad I read it. I'm just not glad its over.
ok, sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but i kinda rushed through the book and apparently missed some things (like confirmation that Mrs. Weasley DID kill bellatrix =/) so if anyone could help me out here, that would be great: did hagrid live or die?
Not my favorite of the series. Still left with unanswered questions and I am baffled as to why she would end this book with so much death and no closure. Not one funeral. Nothing. I feel cheated. I also would have loved to know how Lupin, Tonks, and Fred died. The epilogue was a complete letdown. To me it was just something thrown down to make us happy. Well I'm not. She could have done better by leaving the epilogue off and giving us closure on those who were lost. All in all I would still like to say, " Thank you J.K. Rowling for making the whole world read".
ANORION: Evidently, the Sword of Gryffyndor doesn't have to be in your possession, or sitting in the headmaster's office, for someone really brave to be able to pull it out of the Sorting Hat in a moment of great need. Even though Griphook made off with it (having correctly anticipated that Harry was going to "delay" giving it to him in exchange for his help at Gringott's), it still came to a true Gryffyndor -- Neville! -- when he had need of it. Makes you wonder, though, why Snape's Patronus (don't you just love that his Patronus was the same as Lily's?) didn't just bring the Sorting Hat to Harry in the forest....
The book was totally awesome, but the last chapter was a little disappointing. This chapter only told what happened to the main three characters. It didn't mention any of the other characters in the book.
I liked when the theories I supported turned out to be true - Harry being a Horcrux, for one. I knew Snape had a crush Lily, but I never imagined he love her to that extent! I'm actually feeling sorry for him, and he's moved up to be one of my favorite characters because throughout ALL SEVEN books, up to and including his death, I HATED SNAPE! I was on the "SNAPE IS A VERY BAD MAN" team allllll along, and I didn't think he and Dumbledore arranged anything! The piece I was missing was that Dumbledore was going to die anyways, and he wanted it to be quick and painless. But Snape! OMG! He was actually the bravest, most incredible character! (Well, not more than Harry...) That doesn't excuse is being a slimy, greasy-haired git, and why did he keep trying to get Harry expelled?, and he hated Harry for looking like James, but Harry had Lily's eyes, and therefore Snape risked everything to protect him. That WAS amazing. Really amazing. I found the Snape/Lily romance so sad, falling in love with the girl on the other side of the tracks. I don't wish them to have been together though, because... well, he's a slimy greasy-haired git with an abnormal interest in Dark Magic who actually was for a time a Death Eater. But... yeah. Here's to your life, Severus. To think how much Harry hated him. How much everyone hated him for killing Dumbledore. McGonagall, the Order, the students and staff of Hogwarts... that's quite the sacrifice.
I loved that Snape was the tragic hero. I wish he could have told Harry in person though...and hug!! Now that would have been a tear jerker *sniff sniff*
Thought it was great. I don't need to know what they're doing as jobs or anything, if left a lot open to think what you want. I don't need to have everything handed to me on a silver platter. Ex. I'm glad she didn't write "it's important harry had his mothers eyes b/c...." she made us figure it out ourselves. Awesome book.
We already knew about Merope doing magic later in life, that was in book six. any other ideas?
OMG that was the best book ever!!!!!!!!!! sad ending though cried RIP Fred Remus Snape luv lauren
All I can say is "WOW"...JKR outdid herself in wrapping up the tale of Harry Potter!! I was thoroughly pleased with every part of it...although I cried when each character passed...I felt as though I had lost a friend as well!! As for the epilogue, I must disagree with those who thought it lame. I thought it a beautiful ending and I feel much closure now, knowing that Harry grew up to be happy and to have a family, and to be surrounded by friends who loved him. After all his sufferings, it was beautiful to see that his loss and sacrifice was rewarded with happiness!! I absolutely loved the way she ended the series!
I loved it!!!!!!! BUt I agree with almost everyone on the epilogue, there were so many stories left out... so many conlusions. The final part of the book was amazing!! all the war and all the stories fitting toghether, the puzzle being solved. I just couldnt stop reading!!!!!
awesome *crys of happiness* best yet jk
I thought this book was absolutely amazing. Yes, there were things I would have liked to know in the epilogue, but to answer them all would have taken another book! The things that she missed out (such as the muggle who did magic later in life) may have been things that she was planning on putting in the book, but ended up not working. If you look on her site, there are details of several ideas that she has worked on and then abandoned. The epilogue does not detract from the book, as it isn't really a part of it.
I liked the book in general, very good. But, the epilouge was horrible and I could tell she had written it around the time she wrote PS/SS because it wasn't great writing. There were a few unanswered questions but that's okay. I completely am in love with Snape now. I had a feeling that he was in love with Lily but I never would have guessed that he would become my favortie character after reading all of it in his point of view. I feel so terrible for him, because his whole life was really terrible and everyone hated him.
I finished the book last night and was sad and so very happy for the characters. As i read the book i was sure harry was going to die! I was afraid to go on to the next chapter scared that soon i would have to see harry die. Everyone around me was telling me he died and trying to spoil it for me, i tried not to listen but i felt sadness creeping through me for harry. As harry marched through the great hall and than the forest i was beyond tears. Im so happy, long live HP. I think she left there jobs open for us to discuss. I think Harry became a auror.
petunia was the one to do magic later in life. somehow she corresponded with dumbledore and got him to let her into hogwarts, though in the end she decided not to go because of the whole freak thing. I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!! so much.
I thought the book was good. It was different in the feel of it and I think a lot of that was because the trio did not return to Hogwarts for school. For some reason, it reminded me a lot of some of the fan fiction I read. I have to agree with some people when they say that the epilogue was too short and left too many holes. Hopefully that's just so she has the possibility to write more books. :) I know it's a crack-pot idea, but I have to be optimistic :)
it was fantastic!!! i just finished and it was great!!!
okay as all of the other books, the book was also amazing. JK Rowling wrote another fantastic book. i was sad when dobby, fred, tonks, lupin and mad-eye died but, i understand the whole book couldnt have been a happy ending fairytale. many people wrote in their comments that they did not like the epilouge, i however thought it was great, it gave you an idea of what happened 19 years later but also let you hanging, wanting more.I love the fact that Harry and Ginny got married and that they named their children James, Lily, and Albus-Severus. I also loved that Ron and Hermione got married. i do wish there were going to be more books ( i am still in denial that the series has come to end. ) The Harry Potter books will always be my favorites, and i will never forget them. These books are unforgetable for the are so amazing and magical. Harry Potter is the greatest wizard alive.
It was absolutely brilliant, it made me laugh and cry. And I especially cried when Fred and Dobby died. I never realized that i could cry this much in one book, sure I cried in OOTP and HBP, but there were more deaths in here. I must've looked quite insane while crying. The epilouge was good, but I would've liked more of my questions answered, but I have a feeling Jo will answer them anyway. Does anyone have a theory on who was the one to perform magic late in life? Oh and thank you Emerson for starting this, so the people who haven't fiinished or haven't started yet won't see spolers in every which way, though they probably won't read the comments anyways. I thought I would go crazy not being able to talk fully about the book.
i thought it was a amazing book really. sad, tragic but good. the epilouge yes was pretty crappy but i donno i guess u cant ask for all questions answered but i too would like to kno more about who performed magic late in life luna, neville all the weasleys hows george doing with no twin :( umm whos hogwarts headmaster and such and whats up with that veil? but i think the main point of the epilouge may have been to show harry now had what he had always wanted just kinda like a normal-er life. but i donno i do also wish they covered a bit more crap like what i said above. don't get me wrong still say it was an amazing book one of the best definitely in its series now its tied with my 3 favourites that i like most, - POA OOTP and now DH
