DH was the best book i've ever read, hands down!!! epilogue was disappointing, and i never wanted fred 2 die, but this will 4ever b my fave book, unless jk writes another
WOW! It was amazing and intense and a perfect ending to the series. I'm kinda bummed that J.K. didn't say what they all did after, only that they had kids, it could have had more info. Ron&Hermione!! YAY! It made me cry over and over and over.
Those who are asking about Victoire, read the comments. It's been answered at least twice.
I cried, I laughed, I went without sleep. I would have liked a bit more in the epilogue too. There also wasn't enough snogging. We've waited years for Ron and Hermione and all we got was the short make out in the middle of the battle. Oh well, still I think it was one of her best books. She did answer a ton of questions and kept us hanging about Harry dieing.
Oh my god, I cried through the whole book! It was GREAT, though I did miss something about Sirius and my picture of Dumbledore was smashed. And I wished for a more magical ending, somehow it was annoying how everything went as expected. I wonder if Victoire named after the victory Harry and friends got from Voldemort. Oh, and I loved the battle of Hogwarts! :)
Deathly Hallows = Awesome! Contrary to most posts that I read, I thought the epilogue was great! Maybe younger posters do'nt understand the kid thing, but I loved meeting Harry's kids (The whole albus severus thing nearly sent me for the kleenex box for the umpteenth time in the course of reading the book). I was a little sad that it left stuff out, but I think that JKR left that up to us to decide!
Just want to point out, Dumbledore DID wear the glasses in OOTP on the part where hes making the speech at the beginning of the year..and the book was amazing, alot of questions unanswered, but the book was such a nice read you didn't care..much..although I wish she would have gave us their profession information..a list..something!
i thought the seventh was absoltely amazing!! the best book in the whole series. you can really tell that j.k. rowling really put her heart and soul into the last book. the epilogue was very disapointly to me just cause they should of gone more in to detail about what they were all up to besides just sending their kids off to school and also that whose kids are whose?? i found that really confussing but, that might just be me. besides the epilogue i love this book. the fourth one use to be my favorite until i read this one. maybe she left their kids lives open for another part of a story or just to keep us guessing what happened after the epilogue finished up.
dobby dying was definately the biggest shock. it was so sad when he died cuz he was sooo sweet & innocent. it was really sad for me when tonks & fred died cuz they have always been my favorite characters. the epilogue didnt really tell us much. i think the first half of the story was extremely boring because they barely did anything. i loved the final battle, it was my favorite part. i loved how everyone, like wood & percy, came back. it was a pretty good book, not sure if its my favorite tho...
It was good stuff. I felt all giddy and happy and "aw"ish when Lupin asked Harry to be Ted's godfather. I wasn't expecting so much backstory, or so much of the action to involve Dumbledore. I thought there would be more in the story book he gave Hermione. And I didn't get how Neville got the sword, it came out of the hat again? That's pretty snazzy. I really liked King's Cross for some reason, it was all happy and gave a rest to the action. And then we were back in the thick of it again. The epilogue was...interesting, I was hoping for a bit more, I found it a tad confusing sorting out all the children. Albus Severus...! Yeah, and how to picture a middle aged Harry. Does anyone know why she chose to make it 19 years later? Why not a round 20? All in all a fantastical book, it is both exciting and sad to know the end.
i thought the book was amazing, it was great to finally find out the back stories about Dumbledore and Snape. Although i was extremely saddened by the deaths that occured. Especially, freds. the idea of a twin dying completly freaks me out. in my heart im happy harry and his friends survived but realistically, it was a bit far fetched. the epologe was really random. i wished it talked more about who harry Hermione and ron ended up being and such. all in all im very satisfied and am about to read it again.
Okay guys just so EVERYONE KNOWS...it wasn't Petunia to magic later in life. JK discredited that before the book even came out.
J.K. Rowling you are the greatest. It was the perfect ending to a perfect story. I loved every bit of it beginning to end. Even though she didn't answer all the questions I had, I still have no complaints. I really hope she writes an encyclopedia of some sort.
OMG!!! It was Amazing!!! I Cried. Like ALOT (about the deaths but more because of finishing the last and final book). But I still loved it. its probably my favourite. It was really action packed. But, the one thing i was disappointed is some of the things we were wondering (the loose ends) we never found out the answer to. I loved the Epilogueit (it made me happy to see everyone together just like they did in their 1st year. But Who is Victoire? ~8)
i LOVED the book, the final battle, EVERYTHING. but the epilogue was a definite disappointment. i mean, i was happy learning about harry/ginny's and ron/hermione's kids but still. I wanted more info on other characters. plus, WTF ABOUT FRED!!!! wahhhh i'm still really sad about that :-(
um I loved it!! I was so upset when Fred died, annnd especially when Hedwig got killed (very sad) The epiloge was fairly disapointing though ... all the kids and names kind of confused me. I loved LOVED Molly's line ... NOT MT DAUGHTER YOU girl! *bam* dead Bellatrix (hahaha!!) Oh and I love LOVE Neville :) Very very very good book. I can not decide if GoF or DH is my favorite now. Top 1,000? LOL
Sadly, My mum and I both agree it's one of the worst in the series. Not because of the adventures and action of the book, But because of the way JK rushed through it. Jk said "For people to Love this book, others will have to loathe it" I'm one of the loathe-ers. I read it, adn I was wondering if the Ministry of Kuwait was trying to fool me and has switched it with a fan-fiction.. but Sadly, It wasn't >_< I was extremely disappointed after 7 years of waiting *yes 7 years* and of loyalty to this series and... She comes up with this. I liked the way she was with Ron and Hermione though. It was smooth, not too fast, although, not a lot really happened between them. You can see flashes of them where obviously there's some chemistry *laughs at Ron's idea of a birthday gift* but I mean.. I'm not JK. She must have had her reasonings behind Deathly Hallows. But, yes I was very disappointed and, as many dedicated fans who feel the same way are, I'm making my own ending. Her ideas were wonderful.. Just not put into play very well. I'm hoping, In years to come, JK will read over her book again and re-write it or, writing another one into it's place. There were a lot of un-answered questions. ... Order o f the Phoenix Is still my Favourite. Although, the movie was horrible and too fast *sigh* I'm too critical >
Totally wonderful ending. The epilogue was interesting. I think Teddy Tonks was raised by his grandma though. Harry was only 17 when he became godfather and obviously hadn't planned any kind of future at all. Teddy is obviously over 17 now too. The Colin Creevey thing bothered me. Why on earth he was there in the first place... wasn't his dad a milkman? Shouldn't he and his brother have been in hiding since they were both muggleborns?
No, my american edition says that Molly screams "you B**CH" at bellatrix, which by the way i though it was awesome, she soooooooo desereved it!
I absolutely DISPISE the deaths of Remus, Tonks, and Fred!!! How could JK kill them off!?!?!?! :( :( :( :( How could she!?!?! Poooooooor George!!! Oh my god!!! But Percy was brilliant when Fred died... But Remus & Tonks? It was awful, I felt sick, like I'd swallowed poison or something. I seriously had trouble sleeping. I just so desperatly wish it wasn't so. And the part where Remus is talking about leaving Tonks---ugh! It was just really really disturbing to me. They were my favorite couple, so perfect for each other!!! I thought Dobby's death was the worst it would get, but...alas. Much too much heart wrenching in this book. But otherwise just as brilliant as everyone expected. Aside from the spirit of the book being so dark and gloomy, there were some wonderfully funny parts. McGonagall gave me quite a few laughs, and also I loved the Lily&Sev bit in the pensive. But what I really get a kick out of is at the end of the battle, how they just kind of chucked Voldemort's body into a side corridor and partied in the Great Hall. But really, there are some great highlights throughout the book and a great story. What a fabulous ending to the epic Harry Potter.
Great book! Though there were a lot of plot holes and unfufilled promises, and, I think, a little bit of misleading on JK's part. Epilogue left so much unanswered and the names were all over the place, what happened to simple names like 'Harry'?. But overall, amazing. The battle at Hogwarts was fantabulous, Mcgonagall was brilliant, so was Neville....amazing book!!!
I absolutely loved this book. I had already pinned it about Harry being the 7th Horcrux, but I knew JK wouldn't kill him off. I mean, how could she do that to all of us? There were some questions I wanted answered, but it's ok. I'm sure she will answer somethings on her site over time. The deaths of Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Dobby, and Mad-Eye were quite terrible, but it was afterall war. The worst death to me was probably Snape. I was hoping that Dumbledore had been behind his own death. I love Snape, and I knew there had to be a part of him that cared for Harry. Him and Lily was totally unexpected though. It was amazing, and probably the best book I've ever read. Many thanks to JK for giving us such a wonderful series to keep reading over the years.
this book was absolutely amazing. whats sad is that it means the end, and no more. my favorite parts would probably be where all the mysteries are solved and questions answered. it justs sums up everything, although there is still much left to be answered.when i think about the ending now, it just seems so sweet. i mean, it ends at kings cross station because that place must mean a lot to Harry, like the place where it all began. He even chose kings cross when he talked to Dumbledore. Snape led a tragic life, but he was extremely courageous. everything was so amazing!!
Oh god, I never thought I would say this but...I HATED this book.
Neville should have avenged his parents properly!!
this book was naturally one of the best in this awesome series. i must say that even though many questions were left unanswered and that the epilogue could have had some more information on what happens to the remaining characters, the book altogether was not a dissapointment. many deaths...and a guess that victoire was fleur and bill's daughter. sad how teddy became an orphan at such a young age...like harry. anyway, really sad that the series has ended...it was my favorite and will always be...i will treasure these books forever!!
i loved the book, but i think it was because of the last 200 pages. i don't like the death of Fred, Snape, Lupin and Tonks... but it was great! the epilogue was weird. and it could of been a longer one
um it was a really good bok but i hated the epilogue...i wanted to know what happened to some other people.
I just finished the book, and I feel so horrible empty!! And the epilogue was way too short... We'll desperately need JK to write a book of what happened to everyone else! However, I laughed heartily at Fred and George ('ear, 'ear), and I absolutely loved the way she finished Voldemort. I was so sad when Harry "went to die", without saying goodbye to anyone, and so glad when he explained everything to Voldemort (well almost everything) and Voldie just stood there gaping :D Sometimes I didn't understand it all, I just couldn't believe all that Dumbledore's past and Snape not being evil after all, but I'll read it again to catch up all details;) Thank you so much, JK Rowling, both for making my English language many levels higher, and creating a wonderful universe I have wandered in these past 7 years! (Seven really IS a magical number...)
Absolutely perfect....loved every second of it. Thanks JK
Im reading sorcerers stone again and on page 8, it describes dumbledore with a crooked nose that looked like it had... i thought this was interesting since aberforth broke his nose.....
I am still "mopping my eyes" after having finished the book yesterday. It was amazing and I can't stop thinking about it. Some things I didn't want to happen certainly did, but things I wanted to happen certainly did, too. My heart couldn't stop racing the whole time -- I didn't know what she was going to put us through next! On a side note, I really loved seeing the Yahoo! slideshow of people all over the world upon the arrival of their "Magic Moment." People from Islamabad to Russia, Taipei to Utah -- delightfully silly looking in their Magic folk costumes (I can't help but be reminded of Mr. Weasley trying to pull together a Muggle outfit), all sharing the same sense of thrill and delight, all not spoiling it for others by skipping ahead and screaming out the ending, and all enjoying it for themselves. Who can have a negative thing to say about something that brings so many different people the exact same joy? I dare say that it was the closest thing to World Peace I've ever seen. J.K. Rowling is positively brilliant!!!
It was so incredible!! My favorite book i think. My favorite part was in "King's Cross." Dumbledore is so incredible and I just loved Snape!!! I'm so glad he turned out to be good!!!! So sad about how he loved Lily though. But it was just such a wonderful book! The only thing is I felt like I was reading fanfiction while reading the epilogue. But overall, a fabulous way to end the series. I LOVE JO!!!!! and it was only 759 pages?!
Amazing! The epilogue was not enough though.
I think this book was superb, especially the way she ended it. An added bonus was Scorpio, Draco's son; thats got to be the best name ever. R.I.P Fred Weasley.
'ear 'ear! It was amazing! I absolutely loved it. I cried about a million times. The epilogue was a bit confusing, though... One thing that I was highly disappointed in, though, was that Remus and Tonks died! But that's probably because I'm writing a fanfic on them...so anyway. It was really good. Very satisfying. I loved that Hermione kissed Ron! Ahhh! That was great! "[I feel] saintlike." That cracked me up! Well, great job, J.K.!
That was an awsome end to the series! But I am sad that it is over, I cant remember a time when I didn't have Harry.
I cried a bunch of times!!! Cried when Harry was leavind Dudey and Dudley said he wasn't a waste os space, when Dobby died, Hedwig died, and I cried really hard at the end of the whole thing. (the end were SOBS of joy) Best book ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
I can understand everyone's emotions about the epilogue. When I first read it I thought it was a let down. But after awhile I remembered that despite the fact I loved all the characters in the book, Harry was the main character. I thought the epilogue was brilliant. I does not matter that we don't know what Harry, Hermione and Ron do for a living. What matters is that they are happy. Remember what Harry saw in the first book in the Mirror of Erised. His deepest desire was the be surrounded by family. In the epilogue he is surrounded by his family, his deepest desire had come true. I think a lot of the frustration with the epilogue is that we just don't want the world of Harry Potter to end. Also I know that some are upset that the veil that Siruis fell throw and died was not explained but I think it was. The second brother (story of the hallows) had the stone and brought back his love but she was behind a veil. I wonder if this is not the same veil that was in the ministry of magic. I just loved the book, really excellent, best I have read in years. Thanks JK Rowling!!!!
poor ickle dobby. my heart broke. for hedwig and mad-eye and fred and tonks and lupin too. loved the book though, my favorite of the seven. there was some information that i thought would be answered and wasn’t. but ultimately, all the information that was given was extremely satisfying. the closing of the series was brilliant. jk rowling rocks. albus dumbledore too.
Everyone keeps mentioning a person to do magic later on in life, but I completely missed that whole thing? Was there a reference to it in the book or was it something JK had hinted at? Please let me know.
I absolutely loved the book, epilogue included. I understand that people want to find out all of the details about their favorite characters, but to go through all of the students, the faculty, the Order, the various townspeople, all the family members, etc. would take another 300 pages and would become boring. We've been reading through all of these books how Harry had spent all of his 17 years being harassed, tortured, fought, ignored, and generally treated very badly. To know that he had passed through a further 19 of them happy - marrying, having children, and being with his friends - was wonderful. Capping it off was the knowledge that, according to him, "all's well." I don't need to know what they do for a living, or what happened to everyone else, it was enough to know that HE was at peace, that HE knew things had worked out all right in the end. Bravo!
I don't understand the hate over the epilogue, in it JK rowling best shows us how the sacrifices people have made for Harry's life lived on with the new generation. We see the kids are making bonds, dating and playing pranks, all the childish antics that we grew up with for the first four books but finally seeing through the eyes of adults. Love conquered and evil is (for all we know) kept at bay.
I did like the epilogue, but at first it was confusing. I LOVED the book, it is my favourite by far in the series. One thing I wanted to see was the Dursleys at the end, and what was Dudley's memory? What happened to the veil? I knew that Mundungus was the one that told about Harry's moving.
I thoguht that this was a very satisfting book. I was SOO happy about the Remus/Tonks, Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione hookups, but I wished that there was more 'action' between them, do you know what I mean?? My favourite part was when Mrs Weasley said, "GET OFF MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITC*!!" I was laughing through that, and I thought 'wouldnt harry do something about it?!?!' I finished the book in 6 hours and am reading it for the second time. Hope you guys love it, I did!! -harry_victoria :)
best book ever for sure..but i miss some of the 5694 dead characters..=/was is really necessary?i was in tears when fred died..dobby..lupin..tonks ..and there're still some things that are not quite clear for me,such as what happened to ariana, what are their jobs after finishing school and many more.. i was delighted with snape role in the book and his neverending love for lily.. but ,anyway,it was the best book and a great goodbye for the amasing seven years hat jk gave us,potter fans.Cheers \o/
Harry has been with me for a decade, i started when i was about 6 and a half years old! when i finished, i don't think i have ever felt so physically ill and happy at the same time. A lot of people are upset with Dumbledore's flaws, but that's what's perfect, his mistakes lead him to be so wise, just like with every one else. Somehow, i always knew about Severus and Lily, the eyes are significant because they are "the windows to your soul" and Severus clearly thought of Lily in his last moments. People had to die, it was a war - still sobbed my heart out though! Teddy Lupin probably lived with Andromeda. Does anyone not think that maybe Jo was under pressure from fans to write an epilogue, and now people are disappointed - don't be! When a book finishes you aren't meant to know more. Thanks to Jo for my childhood world!
Yes, Victoire most definitely is Bill's daughter. I don't know what happened, but after books 1 to 5, JK seemed to start writing with less mistery, more like a fanfiction. Is it because i read to many of those, or because the quality of her work became poorer? Throughout the book, I felt that Harry became, all of a sudden, very enlightened of everything that happened, and that purse of Hermione's? WEIRD that suddenly Hermione had thought of everything they would need. Gringotts was fun, the escape from Malfoy's home far fetched, the Deathly Hallows, very much like DaVinci Code, but nice for the plot, Severus IS with the Order... or was, at least, Neville suddenly became all gutsy! How? Why? Did she have to kill Tonks AND Remus? It's James and Lily all over again! The Epilogue, i would rather she had not writen it... It was very fanfiction like, with the happily ever after, although the last two paragraphs made me think. Why is Harry so worried about Albus? Because he's a very sensitive boy? Anyway, i finished the book within 23 hours of getting it (and I'm not even english!), and there was a smile on my face at the end. By the way, loved George's reaction to being HOLEY! AH, crazy twins... Love, Silverbutterfly
OMG BEST BOOK EVER!!! well worth the wait. it was so sad but yet im still happy with it. GINNY AND HARRY GOT MARRIED!!!!!that was so touching. i cried during some parts. harry survived and had a happy ending. voldemort died and good triumphed over evil!! the best book so far it is #1!!!!! griphook sucks and needs 2 die. any death eater needs 2 die!!! loved the epilogue!!dobby rest in peace. along with mad eye lupin fred colin creevy and last but not least snape. all others that died in the ultimate battle of evil rest in peace. may harry ron hermione luna neville ginny groge mr. and mrs weasly and any good guys i hope you have a long happy life!!! good book!! joe 1 MORE BOOK PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! but until then fans have the movies 2 look forward 2.
I loved the book, don't get me wrong, though the epilogue was VERY dissapointing- but don't you think that this book was NOT a childrens book? even in todays society, 'effing' and 'bastard' are not what you want kids to read. If you're reading to them, you can screen it, but it they're doing it on their own..... The other thing is that I know the movie is going to blow when it's come time. There's no way they can make this into the decent movie. I was quit on the movies after the second one, but i took my lil brother to the third one anyway, i shouldn't have. it just breaks my heart that people who have no interest in reading will (and have) miss all those little details that just won't fit into two hours.
