i thought the book was absolutely positively wonderful. i was glad neville played a big part, even though he wasn't the one to defeat bellatrix. i'm ecstatic that snape really was good and that harry lived. kreacher was AWESOME! (: the book was perfect...i couldn't have asked for anything more. i was deeply saddened by all the deaths that happened - tonks, lupin, madeye, colin, dobby, fred...some of them seemed pointless, but it was important to see how the war affected everyone, from house-elves to aurors to underage wizards. did anyone else notice that andromeda, draco, sirius and scorpius are all named after constellations? coincidence or is there a deeper meaning? i've read the book about 3 times already (wow. in the space of two days!) and it's by far my favorite. i'll really miss the adventures that the trio had, but the Boy Who Lived will continue to live in my heart.
What do ya guys think about a George without a Fred? I for some reason cant picture that...btw did any1 else cry when Fred died?
omg i thought it was absolutely brilliant, the epilogue was a little bit disappointing but the rest of the book definately made up for that. it's my favourite out of the series by far, i loved it. i was really shocked about dudley that made me laugh, but obviously other parts of the book made me cry. it was brilliant, anyway lol
I cannot believe its over, but what a way to go!
I have mixed feelings about the book and the more I think about it, the more its status becomes degraded in my eyes. I believe that the battle at Hogwarts was epic, but nonetheless, the middle of the book was dragged. Simply, it wasnt catching, it wasnt exciting as it shoudve been near the middle where by page 300, not a single Horcrux was destroyed. The life and love of Hermione and Ron was simply boring and too sudden. The death eaters were simply stupid, which made Harry's triumph over them meaningless. Voldemort was acting idiotic and his power wasnt shown. Sirius was barely mentioned. The deaths were not as horific as I wouldve expected, reserved for the not so important characters. But the end was great yet too predictable. Jk Rowling, I am sorry to say, but this book was somewhat of a let down. I mean, the epilogue was HORRIBLE, candy coated, fabricated and so flowery in a book that was supposed to hold the meanings of death and sufferings...Not my favourite of the series.
absolutely amazing...had to reread everything from the battle at hogwarts on just to take it all in.... buy who was it who did magic later in life? i must have missed that. was it molly weasley at the end?

loved the book...hated the epilogue. I wiss Jo wud decied to release a 2nd edition excludin the epilogue...i mean i understand she wanted to ensure it was finished but i think she should have left Harry's and everyone else's future to her readers imagination, since this is the last book at lease we would have something to still hold our interest. The only part i really liked in the epi was that Snape bein the bravest person. oh well, i guess its really over then?? SO anyone have any suggestions as to any other good books??????
Where were those last 30 pages? Oh well... I don't think Jo could have written a better finale! It's still really hard to come to the realization that I can't wonder "What's going to happen in the next one?" I've grown up with Harry since I was 7 years old reading about him in 1998. It's amazing to go back to The Sorceror's Stone after reading Deathly Hallows, a definite far cry from where it all started. It was an amazing ending, although I'm really hoping that we'll see Albus Potter later!
Maybe I missed it, but I've caught a few people saying that Lupin was with Harry's group of ghosts as he went into the FF to sacrifice himself to Voldemort. Was Lupin even dead at that point? I thought it was just James, Lily and Sirius. I may be wrong about that, maybe he had already died. Oh yeah.....wonder if James' middle name turned out to be Sirius? Everyone else got a Potter child named after them.... :)
i absolutely LOVED it!!! the epilouge was.... well let's just say i've read a lot of fanfiction stories that were similar. but overall it was a pretty darn good book! i laughed, got angry, happy, sad, cried, frustrated. but it was awesome all the same. i really can't believe it's over, when i was done i was like "now what?" i didn't know wat to do so i just ended up reading fanfiction.....it's not the same. i would like J.K.R. to write more or even publish the stuff that she didn't get to put in the books. sssooo now my sis is planning to read it now....oh yeah who was Teddy living with??? well he could have lived with Harry, since now he would be 19 so he could hav moved out. aannd wat else was there... oh the deaths were devestating and unexpected :(...... i don't i hav a favorite book anymore, cuz i just like them all now. before it was GoF then OoTP
If over 50 people died in the final battle alone, who does that leave? I mean, about than half of the Hogwarts 7th years stayed (20-25 stayed?), and the Order isn't huge. 50 people must've been almost half of the "good guys." I also wish she'd kept her promises - who performed magic late in life? I didn't think the epilogue was too bad.
Wow!!! What a ride! And she left us plenty to talk about! Thanks, Jo OMT
Okay so that was by far the best and worst experience I have had in a long time. Best because Jk Rowling is a literary genius and worst because I knew it was the end of an era. My heart stopped when Harry called Voldemort, "TOM!!" It was at that moment when I realized I would be rereading that book for several years to come. But tha deaths of Dobby and Hedwig really hit me HARD!!! Okay so the epilogue was kind of skimpy but she was probably exhausted from the tremendous effort put in the previous chapters of that masterpiece!!!!! And i kind a like that she didnt answer everything....it allows my imagination to wonder!!! Answering everything would make the end seem too final!! At least I can dream...Oh and I am formally apologizing to Snape!
The book was exciting and hilarious when Mrs. Weasley started fighting with Bellatrix....But it was rather dissapointing that JKR said that Ginny would have a bigger role in the book...and I read nothing but Ginny was talking to someone or doing something else....WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN HARRY AND GINNY??? It seemed as if she didn't mind that they had broken up...that and that the book was so short was rather dissapointing!!!!
It was the best book in the series- by far! I really enjoyed the ending, how Harry proved, in front of everyone that he was wiser than Voldemort, and that it is the wisdom that prevails, over magical powers and over knowledge of dark but powerful objects.
Wow!!!! I am so satisfied! I thought the ending where Harry sacrifices himself and is brought back to finish Voldemort was perfect. The scary adventures that they took to procure the Horcruxes were so excting, especially the stop at Godric's Hollow with the whole snake out of the neck thing!!! Yes, there was a lot of death but it was definitely necessary. I'm not embarassed to say that I cried the absolute hardest for Dobby. :( !!!! And i KNEW Snape was good! YES!!!!! YESS!!! (tho i was doubting it up to the end!!) I think that JKR answered everything, though maybe not as directly as many readers wish. Go back and reread it and you may find your answers. Overall it was amazing!
I really liked the book. It is my favorite by far. The only thing that I didn't like was the eplioge. She left a lot out. Like what jobs did Harry, Hermione and Ron have? What happened to Weasley Wizard Weezes? What about George? What about Teddy? What job does he have now? Did he become an auror like his mother or does he have werewolf in him and everyone is scared of him? What about Percy? What about the rest of them? Could Harry, Hermione, Ron still persue their dream jobs even though they didn't take their N.E.W.T.'s? The Dursleys? What happened to everyone. She could of told us a lot more than she did. But here we are with questions still left unanswered. Their are actually tons that come to my mind. That I want to know. It makes me wish JK would write an 8th book explaining what happened to everyone. Here is one that bothers me (and wondering if anyone else caught it) is Luna and Dean married now. Dean did seem to actually like Luna.... at least thats what I got. Hmmm... I wonder if we will ever know what happened. It seems that everyone didn't like the epilogue. We should all write JK. lol. Oh well... I hope that we do get them answered one day. Like in another book... it doesn't even have to be that big it oculd be as bigs as the first book and I'd be happy. at least we know what happened to everyone. And maybe she throw in some Maruader stories. lol. I miss them. It's sad that they all died. But I knew that they were all going to go as soon as Sirius died. Oh.. I also knew that Snape was a friend (why?) because it is JK sometimes her writing can be predictable. Like the fact that one of the Weasley twins would die. I figured it'd be one of them not any of the other Weasleys just one of them. Yeah.. okay enough of my blabbering.
ok, first of all EXTREMELY upset with the death of Lupin, of course. I thought Jo could have held off on some of the deaths, there were sooo many! Also, i wish there would have been more Ron/Hermione stuff, i mean it is the final book! There wasn't anything about the Department of Mysterious either, like what was with the veil. Lastly, i thought the Epilogue was waaaaaaay too short and we didn't get to find out about some of the characters. All in all i thought it was an amazing book, definitely my favorite, but now that i've read it i'm all depressed...WHY did it have to be the last one??!!!!???!!!!
wow. It wasn't what i expected but, still very good. Oh, the Epilogue was a big let down, it would have been better if there just wasn't one :[ RIP LUPIN TONKS AND FRED :[[
too short, epilouge needed work but other then that, fantastic!
OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!! i absoulutley loved it. the book was awesome. i loved how the whole final battle took place. it was awesome i loved how Mrs. Weasly finished off Bellatrix, "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU B****!" I was laughing so hard. And I loved how Harry went to die to save everyone and then came back, then he went and teased Voldermort like that before finishing him off. It was simply brilliant, I loved it all. i was really saddened by the deaths though, I can't believe she killed Fred! I thought the epilouge was great. it ended the series perfectly for me. and for all those people who wanted more, keep in mind that it's only an epilouge, if she was to tell the fates of everyone then that would be a whole nother chapter or book. we got to find out the main characters got married and had kids. I thought it was perfect. Way to go JK, amazing job with the series. thank you for writing it for us to read. And Congratulations on finishing it. I can't wait to see how there going to do the movie. One question though how are they going to do the epilouge scene in the movie, are they going to have to hire all new older characters? and who used magic later in life? I loved this book it was totally awesome. Way to go JK.
Stunning book! Absolutely devasting, but wonderful all the same. Epilogue could definitely have been longer and more satisfying. Woefully incomplete! Hopefully upcoming interviews will inform JK as such, and she will do something about it. Another Comic Relief book would be nice! Just something to explain the weddings, and the happenings of each character after the war. George and Luna especially. George must have been totally lost without his Twin. Fred, Dobby and Hedwig's deaths were the absolute worst for me. I was inconsolable! Kreacher was a lovely lovely surprise!!!
NOT BY DAUGHTER YOU BIITCH
I thought this book was awesome to say the least. I cried so hard when Harry was walking to his death and the resurrection stone brought back his mom, dad, Sirius and Lupin. The whole last part of the book was the best. Harryâs so slick with pretending heâs dead and everyone just âyou B**ch!â and tackled all Voldemortâs men. I agree with the epilogue, but I thought it was cute anyway, all the kids and such, but it is Joâs book so she can do what the wants âsnap, snap.â Iâm so sure sheâll have, like, a question session so we can find out all our unanswered questions. Great book, a ten out of ten. Canât wait to see what Jo writes in the future. :>)
I am so happy with the book that I find myself in an irritable mood now that I know its all over. I started reading when the books first came out, when I was 11, and now I'm 20 and I think, like everyone else, I just grew really attached to the characters. That was Jo's greatest talent. So of course we all want to know every little thing about them, but guys, its just not possible! We also have to accept that things Jo said were going to happen might've ended up NOT happening when she actually sat down to write. This is the story as she wanted it told. And as for the epilogue, even IF it seems a little like fanfiction, thats a good thing, because after all, fanfics represent things we WISH we could see. This just proves that Jo knew what we wanted, and I'd say she more than delivered.
I didn't like the last line though. "All is well." It seemed really tacked-on.
I thought that the epilogue was a disappointment at first, but after I sat down and thought about the book, I changed my mind. Placing Harry and his children at Kings Cross is symbolic in a number of ways. First of all, it completes the story by showing that life goes on - Platform 9 3/4 is a gateway to the future. This is further emphasized by the fact that Harry's gateway from life to afterlife - the place his mind's eye created when Voldemort destroyed his soul fragment and both of them were unconscious - was King's Cross. Though I would have been very happy to see an epilogue that tells what happened to all the survivors, I believe that J.K. Rowling will do this, periodically, through her website, or even release a charity book (like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch through the Ages).
Please spare us lies like 'I read the book in 5 hours'. That works like a page every 30 seconds = impossible!
I liked the book in some parts and in some pars I hated it. I got so mad a Dumbledore at the end. He should have told Harry everything. And it was scary how power hungry he was whem be was younger. The epilouige I thought was quite bad. Jo said that all our questions would be answered in it. But I still want to know so many questions answer. I wanted to fin out what happened to everyone. All the Weasleys, Luna, Neville, the rest of the Death Eaters, Teddy Lupin. I agree silverbutterfly, it was kind of like a fanfic. I think, even though everyone kept saying was so hard, that it should have been harder. They seemed to have all the answers. It's not like I wanted it to be hard for Harry, I just think it would have been a bit more realistic, even by magical standards. The book seemed like a bit of a letdown. I was hoping for a better end to something that has been so huge and important for the past 10 years.
snape had suffered enough why kill him off? He had redeemed himself already, his death didn't need to happen, especially in the way that it did. He was the antihero of the whole series and his love for lily kept him strong. harry should thank him...
I was quite pleased with the novel. Except, why kill off Fred and NOT write George's reaction, but Percy's? Also, why did both Lupin AND Tonks have to die? Finally, why oh why did Harry and Hermione not end up together? Besides, that and wondering what really happened to the trio (other than marriage and kids) I enjoyed the final novel and I'll really miss reading new adventures about Harry.
I thought the book was AMAZING!!!!!! I was my favorite by far! Although there were some things that weren't answered, I still think that the book was awesome. I KNEW Snape was good! Muah! I thought there were some deaths that were kind of pointless...Fred...*tear* . The epilogue was weird...it didn't say enough and it was soft of confusing. When Harry 'Died', the King's Cross thing was bizarre!!! and really random, but cool. What was up w/ the thing one the floor dumbledore said they couldn't touch?? Oh well...AMAZING overall and the perfect was to finish off the books.
I honestly felt like it read at times like a fanfiction and that the ending wasn't all that great. All we learn 19 years later is that Harry and Ginny are really bad at naming kids, I mean we don't even know what they do for a living! I honestly felt like JK led me on, I loved these books for the longest time and the way she ends it is just dissapointing.

Wow. Just wow. I was in awe the entire time. I basically didn't put it down once. I even loved the epilouge. I'm pretty excited about future fan fiction, too. So there's a bright side to a limited epilouge. Fred and Dobby's deaths really got to me. By the time we got to Lupin and Tonks, I was pretty numb. It really didn't hit me till Harry was walking to his death with his parents, Sirius, and Lupin that they were actually dead. That was when I really fell apart. There was some fantastic humour throughout. The Fred and George bits, and Mrs. Weasley's lovely little comment to Bellatrix. I loved all the pairings. The Ron/Hermione bits made me love this book completely. I must've read the kiss scene on page 625 thirty times already. I also loved the locket's destruction scene. It was really intense how it played out Ron's insecurities. Deathly Hallows made me love a few characters that I used to loath completely, namely Kreacher, Snape, and Narcissa. Basically, I'm in love with this book. I can't wait till I can reread it and pick up even more.
I thought it was ruddy brilliant. All of the cute tension between Ron and Hermione made the book for me. And I liked how she focused more on the trio's development into fully grown wizards because we have known them for such a long time that it closed well. Dumbledore was upsetting though. I mean we all thought him to be a great guy all the time, then just a great guy at the end of his life, but still when looking at Snape's memories he was so harsh and brash. Just very unexpected, not the serene old man I imagined. But J.K. Rowling was absolutely amazing in all of her plot twists. It was a whirlwind of emotions, crying and then laughing five minutes later. I'm so upset another book isn't coming out but I don't think the full realization has hit me yet. When it does I might need some help haha
kinda cheesey epilouge. what happened 2 everyone else?!what about Luna??!!!
The book in a whole was absoulutely frigging brilliant. I do agree, there were a few loose ends, and the epilogue did leave a lot to be disired. But on the other hand, prehaps Ms. Rowling does have a few more tales up her sleves.......... If not, then we are just left to know that the two special couples that we are left with are aparrently VERRY MUCH in love.
It was easily my favorite out of the whole series :) I loved how Ron&&Hermione ended up together...over house elfs I laughed when that came around. Then there was Malfoy's parents turning good...I loved that! And Mrs. Weasley calling Bellatrix a girl stole the whole story. J.K. Rowling did an amazing job on this novel! Poor Lupin&&Tonks :( I was happy with the ending...although I'd like to know what Harry&&Ginny&&Ron&&Hermio ne were all doing... I knew it would be Neville that taught at Hogwarts... I cried probably the hardest at Hedwig's death....Moody was very unexpected...I thought for sure it was Hagrid. In one word: Amazing.
Someone start a room on AIM so we can discuss live!
LOVED IT!!!! Everything that i wanted and hoped it would be...well done Joe
I enjoyed the book very much, it was slow in some parts, like after Ron left, but all in all, it was pretty good. I wasn't to happy with the epilogue as i wasn't sure who Victoire was. I thought I would find out what happened to Luna, Dean and the rest of the familiar Hogwarts students we all grown to love or even the one we didn't. I thought Teddy would end up living with Harry but I guess since his Grandmother was still alive, that ruled that out. Maybe we'll find out the fates of everyone else one day. Good job JK. Now I need something else to do with the rest of my life.
could the person who did magic late in life be crabbe, i mean he might have done tiny bits but it's now that he can actually talk. Somone thought it might be filch but I couldn't find it in the bookI can't imagine the two twins not together
I have to say this book was without a doubt amazing. It was so different from the others and that's what I really liked about it. There was only a few things I was dissapointed about. First I always thought Harry should die. I thought this would have made the ending more emotional and that would have been amazing since none of the deaths were all THAT emotional. They were sad but it was hard to get depressed because more and more people kept dying. However once harry discovered he was the 7th horcrux I found myself not wanting him to die anymore. I didn't want him to die knowing he HAD to i wanted him to die taking Voldemort with him in their final battle. The other thing I didn't like as much as I wanted to was the Epilogue. I really wanted to find out what happend to EVERYONE not just the main characters. Overall though it was an amazing book. I'm still not sure if it's my favorite though I have to re read it I missed a few things. It's a very complex book and that's what I like about it. Even though it's shorter than Order of the Phoenix it felt like it took longer to read because of how far all the characters go.
I liked it! Left too much unanswered, but still totally AMAZING! the epilouge was lame though. Was crying throughout the book, because it's the very last one, and because it was sooo sad. all the deaths... should show more aftermath. Still, 10/10!
[Continued thoughts] I knew Harry wasn't dead, but Hagrid didn't. It was so moving! As for the epilogue, it was slightly disappointing. I really thought we were getting a laundry list of major characters and what they are doing now. It felt weird thinking that they were all like my age with children, but it didn't feel the same. Maybe that was what JKR was going for - that's how you know that it's ended finally - they're all grown up, doing the mundane things, there's no more story to tell. I don't know. I'm not that concerned about it. The rest of the book was more than satisfying, even though some individual things were not - I thought we should have more Snape. But maybe she knew that trying to have alive!Snape explain everything to Harry would be more difficult given the length of the book. And I'm sure Harry told everyone afterwards that Snape was a good guy (especially if he named his son after him), so the memory of Snape is good and clean. But now we get to ask her these questions and she'll likely answer them. But it's depressing now having nothing to look forward to except for the movies to see how they play it out. I've only been doing this for 2 1/2 years. The rest of you must be going through MAJOR withdrawals! I'll miss Harry; I hope my children will read them and then I can join in their excitement (which still won't be the same, since they won't have the joy of anticipation and theorizing). It's all we have now. What a perfectly bittersweet ending!
ended very similiarly to what i thought it would, bit bummed about not being able find out more about all the characters lives after voldemorts death, but all in all it was great!!!
We need Micah to tell Jo to answer the questions that she said she would but didn't.
Amazin, we didnt learn as much as i had hoped we would but all the same good. there were a lot of unecessary deaths, fred weasley, hedwig, collin creevey, tonks. remus....as soon as pettigrew died, u knew remus was gonna go to. loved neville in this book for cuttin off the head of nagini. i thought the final fight between harry and voldemort couldve been more dramatic. if i remeber correctly the ak curse hit voldemort??? how??? anyway, dobby was sad, remus was sad, and so was fred. the twins are my fav. characters and seeing one go is just as bad as both of them. i thought it was beautifully written and explained and mcgonacall kicked some butt!!! she just took charge. i was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOO(!!!!) dissapointed with the epilogue! wat happened to the weasleys., hogwarts, hagrid, ted lupin, luna lovegood, neville(teacher, i know), godrics hollow, kreacher, the malfoys! o and wat was lily's job! how did Regulus know of the horcruxes!!!man... E.W.7 .
