The Epilogue was a bit of a cliche, but otherwise it is exactly what I wanted it to be. Well, I was hoping Remus and Tonks would live, because they'd just had a baby (I literally felt like I'd been punched when I read they were dead)! It was terrible! I started sobbing, and I had to hold the book away from my face so I wouldn't get the pages wet! Then when I read HArry's thoughts on how he was about to die...my heart was hammering against my chest so hard I couldn't breathe properly. It had moved from sad sobs to uncontrolable quite quickly. Oh, and I think I may have read too much fanfiction...every few pages, I was like "Have I seen this before??" But then logic kicks in and slaps me. BEST BOOK EVER!! I read it in 14 hours (excluding sleep) and 22 minutes, and cried my eyes out. It was amazing. JKR at her very best. And, looking back on all of the other books, you can really see how her writing skills have evolved in the past decade. AMAZING!! BEST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!

i thought the book was good....so many questions still unanswered though. i kinda felt the horcruxes in this book were too easy to get at compared to the locket and the ring. epilogue was a big disappointment, thought there would be more to do with the relationships growing, wished harry and voldemort had a bigger one on one fight. only death that i really got upset about was fred weasley and hedwing, although the others were disappointing too. some of it seemed to rushed and too easy to me, but still a good book. not the best in the series but definetely not the worst. thought it could have been darker but still a great book. not disappointed at all with the ending.

Posted by EvilTim Jul 23rd 2007

I thought it was amazing. my only problem w/ the epilouge was we didn't really get to know what happened to Ron/Hermione/Harry/Ginny, and like their jobs and stuff. we only find out who married who, Nevilles Herbology teaching job, and their kids. For everyone wondering who Victoire is, My guess is that it would be Bill and Fleur's daughter, b/c James said, "Our Teddy Lupin! Snogging our Victoire! OUR COUSIN". Meaning, it has to be a Weasley child, and unless Hermione and Ron had a child right after the book ended, which is terribly young for a baby, it has to be them. They are the only married Weasly couple.

Posted by theatregeek Jul 23rd 2007

The epilogue was a disappointment, and I bawled my eyes out when Dobby died, and again when Fred died. Otherwise, it was an amazing end to an amazing series!

Posted by Narcissa_rocks Jul 23rd 2007

Definitely the best book in the series, even though Fred died (but that's just because Fred and George are my favorites), which made NO sense. I personaly think Percy should have. The epilogue was disapointing, but I think Ron and Hermione's kids were named after Hermione's parents, because she wiped their memories and sent them to Australia (plus, we don't know what their first names are). But definitely awesome.

Things I loved: *The beginning of the book (right up until the trio apparates out of the wedding) *The end of the book (from the Hog's Head on). * The fact that 7 different people destroyed the 7 different horcruxes. Things I hated: * Most of the trio out camping. * Something really bothered me about Harry giving the Cruciatus Curse to Carrow and McGonagal casting the Imperius. It seemed wrong for those characters to casually cast unforgivable curses. * Most of the Hallows nonsense. The Hallows would have made a good book. The Horcruxes would have made a good book. Merging the two made it sloppy. * The pacing. One of the reasons I love the Potter world is for its rich characters and locations. For half the book, we only get the trio in a tent. I would have preferred to have that section broken up from time to time with chapters about Hogwarts and the DA uprising. * The unanswered questions/revelations- Who was the first DADA teacher to make it past 1 year? What was the deal with the veil? What did Dudley see? * The needless deaths. Colin had no reason to die. Dobby deserved a more glorious end. Tonks and (especially) Remus desereved to at least die on the page as opposed to an afterthought. *The Epilogue- No Fred among the kids? Doesn't Ginny have any relatives that could use some namesakes? Rubeus? All of these options make more sense than naming your kid Albus Severus. Plus, we never got ANYTHING about what they went on to DO. We had huge sections of books where the trio all obsessed about their futures. We get nothing. Parts of this book were absolutely stunning in the beauty of the writing. Unfortunately, it was very clearly rushed.

I LOVED this book, but it was sad. I also wish we saw George more after Fred died. I really want to know how he's taking it. I also didn't really like the epilogue. And there are still a lot of questions I have. But other then that, this is my favorite book out of the series.

Posted by rose_weasley Jul 23rd 2007

i LOVED it!!! i still can't say whether or not it's my fav of the series, though, b/c i love them all so much. :D maybe jk will tell in her tv interview who performed magic late in life...she has to answer our questions, because there are no more books to say!! RIP Mad-Eye, Dobby, Fred, Tonks, Lupin, Colin, etc.!!!! was Crookshanks the cat that the Potters owned when Harry was a baby, since it knew that Sirius wasn't a dog later and didn't trust Wormtail? I wish we'd found out what happened to Luna though! The epilogue was too short! I think Victoire is Bill and Fleur's daughter; it would work, right? It's a French name, she is probably around the same age as Teddy (since they are snogging), and it would be fitting--"Victoire" for the amazing new victory over Voldemort!! yay! :)

Posted by Scy Jul 23rd 2007

I think that the book is supposed to leave a lot of unnanswered, though relatively unimportant questions. For like fanfics or whatever. I really did like the book, and it answered the most important questions in typical Potter style. I agree with you, Muggleman38: Some of these things could have been better wrapped up, especially the Fluffy part. Even a simple "Had ter give 'em away" would have sufficed. I think that everything said could be nodded at with the movie, although... I've been thinking about it since I finished the book: For the movie to do this book justice, it would have to be at least seven hours long. Because EVERYTHING in the book is relevant and should be kept. Of course, I think I should direct it because I see my version of the movie everytime I read a book, and this one was no different. However, whereas lots of stuff could be written out of HBP, this movie...I don't know...I still think it would have to be long liek giant squid. Oh, and I think it would be funny if Malfoy got with Chang at the end, and Luna became Minis...tress? Kreacher probably would have died by then, but I could see a 120-year-young McGonnagal as Headmistress of Hogwarts. Okay, I'm done.

Posted by halfbloodprince6 Jul 23rd 2007

u know. never mind my questions, Harry finally got a happy peaceful life he always wanted with no more deaths and that was what the epilogue was for and thats more than enough for me. =)

Posted by sugarzero Jul 23rd 2007

i thought the epilogue was complete crap as well and i thought we were supposed to find something out about crookshanks? did i miss that?? and what about her promise to reveal more about the afterlife....i don't think the scene with dumbledore was sufficient enough. all in all i was disappointed and am considering trying to convince myself that the last book ended up with half blood prince. complete disappointment

Posted by thegreatmejujube Jul 23rd 2007

who did magic later in life? what were all their jobs? What about Luna and Hagrid? What happened to the Weasly's Wizarding Wheazes? Wasn't Teddy already living with Harry? I hate that she killed off so many characters it was a war but still...

Posted by Pranka Jul 23rd 2007

Hermione Weasley? Ginervra Potter? Rose Weasley? HUGO Weasley? Victoire Weasley? FLEUR weasley? Scorpio MALFOY?

Posted by ill_miss_you_x3 Jul 23rd 2007

wow...that was absolutely amazing. these comments seem kind of repetitive but there's no better way to put it. I was a little dissapointed in the epilogue..i wish it mentioned more characters...but it was still very veryyy well written. GOOD JOB JO! i have to admit though...i never thought harry would ACTUALLY be a horcrux... =]

Posted by jennamsmile Jul 23rd 2007

AMAZING!!!!!!! J.K.R has produced the best ending for the whole series making it happy and what everyone wants but not cheesy!!!!!! Incredible!!!! I love Harry, he's so brave.......and neville!!!!! Dobby death was sooooooo sad!!!!! But rona dn hermione finally hooked up YAY :D:D:D:D And.......All was well.

Posted by SnowDream Jul 23rd 2007

OMG! I loved it definatly my favourite of the series (it's the only book ever to make me so emotional to cause tears ='[). Extremely sad that it's finaly over =[. But what a wonderful series! I agree that the epilogue wasn't the best but still the rest was awesome! Extremely saddening with all of the deaths of alot of my favourite charactors. Tonks, Lupin, Fred, Hedwig, Geroge's ear, Moody I will miss you! Wonderful that Snape actually turned out to be good! And a yaysers that Harry didn't die. Bravo J.K. for your amazing job of creating this wonderful world for so many!

Posted by Spirit Jul 23rd 2007

My thoughts on DH? I loved it, I loved it, I loved it, I loved it!!

Posted by MagicIsMight Jul 23rd 2007

The book was absolutely awesome! definitely up there with my favorite!! there were some very funny moments, like when Mrs. Weasley cursed in Bellatrixin her face!!!! LOL...as well as some extremely sad parts, like when Dobby died, and I cried so hard when harry discovered that he had to die in order to save the whole wizarding community and was walking to the forest with the ghosts of his parents, lupin, and sirious....and Snape..=[...what a heroic life he had...and the way he died...was just....sad...I never knew a book would bring out soooo much emotions in me. Although the epilogue disappointed me a little, only talking about Harry, Hermione, Ron and their confusingly named children, it was still really sad to see this amazing series end....I still cant really believe it, theres no more HP to look forward to...

Posted by gldmdiv Jul 23rd 2007

What a wonderfully satisfying conclusion to the series! Of course, I feel pain over the characters who died. And I would always want more, but I respect Jo Rowling's desire to finish this series. (And how wonderful that she did finish it! Can you imagine how frustrated people would be if she had not?) So I choose to stay with the full sense of satisfaction I felt at the end of the story. I saw one question about who Victoire is. Because Victoire is a French name, I'm guessing she is the daughter of Bill and Fleur Weasley. And her name is to celebrate the victory over Voldemort. gldmdiv

Posted by Lunabri15 Jul 23rd 2007

Wow, AMAZING book! I cried soooo much when Fred died! I mean c'mon, how could u separate the Weasley twins?? How awful! I also cried when poor Dobby died! i loved him soo much! =[ Lupin & Tonks too! There were a lot of unanswered things tho...& i mean like...with DRACO c'mon! It made no sense! We barely saw ANY of him, & he was supposed to be dead! Or at least punished for not killing Dumbledore! But i am glad he got to live. Although i wasnt too fond of the epilogue. Even thought i loved how Harry named his son after Albus & Severus, i really liked that! ^^ But it just seemed too happy-go-lucky..i mean the very last words.."All was well" -_-' Not to mention that this book seemed a bit weirder than the rest, but all in all, it's one of my favorites!

Posted by sweetiepiejo Jul 23rd 2007

IS ANYONE ELSE WORRIED ABOUT THE BOOK TO MOVIE TRANSLATION?? Many pivotal emotional scenes happened when Harry, Ron, and Hermione had taken Polyjuice potion and looked like characters we've never met before...getting the locket from the ministry, the Godric's Hollow part, Harry visiting his parents' grave...I would much rather see Emma, Dan, and Rupert doing these scenes than random actors we've never met, even if it's not exactly like the book. ANyone else agree?

Posted by KniVEs4 Jul 23rd 2007

There were parts in this book I was unsure about. There were 100+ pages when all Ron, Harry, and Hermoine were doing was moving their tent around thinking. That was a bit boring. I think she shoved a lot into the end. There were what, 3 horcruxes destroyed after one another? I think it could have been spread out a little bit, but maybe it had to work that way. I was kind of hoping that Harry would die along with Voldemort. That would be more unexpected. I had the end battle figured out before even opening the book. I would have enjoyed the book much more if the epilogue wasn't there. I thought it was a horribly bland way to end such an amazing series.

Posted by wastingmy Jul 23rd 2007

Did anyone other than me catch the homages to fan web sites?

Posted by human_bludger6 Jul 23rd 2007

I loved it. It was totally amazing. I know a lot of people are disappointed with the epilogue but I thought it was okay. It confirmed what I needed to know...that Harry and Ginny were together and that Ron and Hermione are as well. Also that Neville is okay because he was my favourite character. But did we ever find out how Neville's parents thrice defied Voldemort? That was the only thing I missed.

Posted by missnorris Jul 23rd 2007

i absolutely loved this book... it was the perfect ending really... not all questions were answered but i don't think they needed to be... like, the department of mysteries... people are upset that we didn't find out more about that but honestly i don't think harry found out any more than we did... i can't see him getting friendly with the ministry, even after voldemort's destruction... but this book was fabulous... most of all im going to miss harry, ron, and hermione *tear* thank God they had a happy ending together. and when considering the epilouge, that is all that matters really... that they were finally happy

Posted by randomchat Jul 23rd 2007

No, we've seen Mrs. Weasley do magic.

Posted by deviate Jul 23rd 2007

absolutely amazing. i cried so many times =/ i was a bit disappointed by the epilogue, but all in all it was amazing.

Posted by ScarHead Jul 23rd 2007

It never explains why some people become ghosts and others do not? Why is this?

Posted by polyethylene Jul 23rd 2007

Being a Harry Potter book, it was of course a page turner and had its moments. I am however a bit disappointed. No I am very disappointed. I came into this with low expectations, trying not to expect much; and yet still finishing it was hard. It was hard for two reasons; I was absolutely mourning the end of a journey. I grew up with these novels. Discovering them at the age of 10, I've spent nine years laughing, crying, gasping with the trio and all their exciting adventures. I, along with other fans was emotionally invested all these years. Secondly, it was in my mind missing that Harry Potter spark. It could have been absolutely amazing, but it was just okay, just a bit satisfying to me. So many questions were left unanswered, new plots and storylines were introduced that, though interesting, were very choppy and at times seemed disconnected. To me the book read ALMOST like a screenplay, more than a book. I feel as though her last two books were missing that essence of Harry Potter. Jo’s famous humor, irony, and even emotin was lacking. I would have loved a glimpse into life at the reformed hell camp that became Hogwarts. There were no unpredictable twists and turns. I completely understand that there had to be deaths... I was expecting that. I was looking forward to that. Yes I know I sound like a bit of a sadist, but I was looking forward to a bittersweet ending. I understand this is a war we're dealing with in the Harry Potter universe. I was more disturbed by the random deaths more so than other gruesome scenes. I'm not bitter that certain characters died, I just feel she did off with them so very, very callously, and coldly; in the sense that they were just glazed over. I feel that I was a bit mislead to be quite frank. In interviews many have questioned certain things such as the importance of the veil, the department of mysteries, etc. There's so much more I wish to address; perhaps when the forums are up. This is getting a bit wordy sorry!

Posted by jess1z1 Jul 23rd 2007

It's definately the BEST of the series. I loved it, my favourite. It left me wanting more, of course, and I cried a lot, starting with Hedwig's death. Yeah. I'm sad the series are over and there's a lot of things I want to know about like The Trio's professions, The Marauders' professions, about The Veil, about the state of the world after the war. I loved the final battle and I loved the fact that Harry's kids are Lily, Albus Severus and James (I'm thinking middle name Sirius maybe?). I'm grieving for the end of the series, for Lupin (although I sort of knew that she'd have all The Marauders killed), Tonks (she was so cool), Dobby and, worst of all, Fred (NOOOO!). Still, I love Jo Rowling, she's the queen of the world. I coulnd't help to notice a few things such as Hermione's middle name (Jean or Jane?) and the fact that she told Ron and Harry about how she modified her parents' memories to keep them safe and then she says she doesn't know how to perform a memory charm when they run into the couple of Death Eaters right after the escaping the wedding. It also shocked me to see Dumbledore so... human. He'd been showing his flaws more and more since OotP but to actually have him bawl and suffer about his dark past shocked me. To me, Dumbledore was always god-like and in this book he was human. Cute. The only bit I didn't entirely love was the epilogue, the way it was written, it's content. Meh. Just one bit. Deathly Hallows is Rowling's masterpiece.

Posted by Miliii Jul 23rd 2007

I loved loved loved it. Oh, well, I already commented quite a lot on previous posts. ____ Um, I realy liked it, obviously certain parts were not satisfying, but I think Jo managed to make most of us happy. I wouldn't have been able to cope with deaths in the trio / Hagrid. It was so sad to see Fred go. ___Who else thinks George losing an ear was a methaphore of Fred dying? There were two, and even if one's gone, you have to get used to it cause you can still live. ___ And, as a last thought, I think the HP series is amazingly fun, interesting and worth reading. This last installment was Jo showing us that she knew where this story was heading to all along. LOVED IT.

mrsronaldweasly.....i believe that was the part of voldermorts soul that had been cast out of harry harry was a horocrux that voldertmort didnt know about so voldermort unknowing destroyed a piece of his own soul

Posted by huffleclaw666 Jul 23rd 2007

The book was so great...up until the epilogue. I expected it to be filled with information but it wasn't. I guess fan fiction will have to fill in the gaps, or at least JK will have to rewrite it.

Posted by potterluvr63 Jul 23rd 2007

I laughed, I cried, and then I cried some more. Action-packed. I would have liked to find out more about all of the other main and secondary characters in the epilogue, though.

Posted by Brat_attack Jul 23rd 2007

i loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! of course, i had hoped snape was bad, but i guess he's okey now that he's proven himself. andwho was the person who used magic later in life? i couldnt figure that one out. BUT all in all, it was the best book i've EVER read, EVER. i loved kreacher, he's a good elf, he had just been mistreated.

Posted by ASnidget Jul 23rd 2007

It was my favourite book by far and I was sure that nothing could ever beat POA as my favourite! Wonderful! Oh and I'm glad Teddy stayed living with his grandmother - she is after all family whereas Harry isn't quite family. I'm very glad he had a close relationship with Harry though.

Posted by flobagz Jul 23rd 2007

OH MY GOODNESS! IVE BEEN NON STOP READING FOR 3 DAYS! THE ENDING WAS AMAZING!!!! THAT FINAL TWIST! I WAS SMILING FROM EAR TO EAR AS HARRY WAS SAYING TOM RIDDLE AND IVE NEVER LAUGHED SO MUCH WHEN MRS WEASLY SHOUTED YOU girl TO BELLATRIX! IM GLAD THAT HARMONI OR RON DIDNT DIE AS THEY WERE SUCH VITAL CHARACTERS! IM NOT SURE WHAT I THINK OF DUMBALDOORE ITS STRANGE TO THINK OF HIM AS CHILD LIKE. CAN SOME ONE TELL ME WHAT THAT NAKED CHILD THING WAS ABOUT AT THE END WHEN HARRY MET DUMALDOORE AGAIN?! ITS A SHAME YOU DIDNT GET TO HEAR WHAT GOARGE THOUGHT ABOUT FRED DIEING THOUGH. THE LAST CHAPTER I THOUGHT WAS GREAT AND IM GLAD HARRY MARRIED GINNY AND NOT CHO! I WISH MORE WAS SAID ABOUT THE OTHERS THOUGH E.G LUNA AND NEVEL MAYBE THEY ,ARRIED EACH OTHER?? IT MADE ME CRY WHEN HARRY SAW THAT LUNA HAD PAINTED ALL THEIR FACES ON HER CEILING AND WROTE FRIENDS FRIENDS FRINEDS AROUND IT THOUGH ! AMAZING BOOK I KNOW I WILL BE LONGING FOR MORE FOR THE REST OF HOLIDAYS. GOODBYE HARRY POTTER, THANKYOU FOR MAKING MY MANY LONLEY WEEKS FILLED WITH HAPPINESS. R.I.P FRED, LUPIN AND TONKS ;( FLOBAGZ

Posted by hogwartsgoddess Jul 23rd 2007

I absolutely adored it! Even though there were a lot of things that I thought JK left out. I don't recall reading anything about the significance of Harry's eyes, learning about the veil, or who did magic later in life. I also HATED the epilogue! I wanted the know more about eveyone's lives, not jsut about their kids. It was a big disappointment. I cried like a baby when Harry brought back his mom, dad, Sirius, and Lupin and was talking about dying, and when he let Voldemort kill him and also when he was talking to Dumbledore. It was a good 15 minutes of crying. But, this is my favorite of all the books.

Posted by yks091193 Jul 23rd 2007

kreacher, snape, and percy rule!!! bad people changed for the better, though snape didn't really change, he was good from the beginning. sad that percy had to take in fred's death, right when he came back for his family, and how the trio had to abandon kreacher after leaving the ministry. anyway, nice for jkr to give a decent part to umbridge, rita, and krum...and ron/hermy were great!!

Posted by Jeh_C Jul 23rd 2007

The book was brilliant. It had me completely mesmerized. I couldn't put it down even through all the tears. I felt that a lot of the deaths in the book were unnecessary. Fred's death really came as a shock to me. I loved how there were so many twists in the plot. I truly did not like the epilogue though, it still left me with some unanswered questions.

Posted by flowerpower20 Jul 23rd 2007

the movie should be great. wowzers!

Posted by HPHGRWfan Jul 23rd 2007

The person to do magic was ron, sure he could already do magic, but he went in the chamber of secrets and he has to speak parseltongue. so that is the magic.

Posted by Hermione713 Jul 23rd 2007

Wow. To say DH is fantastic is a severe understatement. I'm not one to laugh or cry much during movies, but this book seriously had me laughing and sobbing the whole way through. Hedwig, Dobby, Fred...those really hit me. And when Snape died--oh my gosh. I. Bawled. It's been how many days since I found out, and I'm still touchy about it. :) Anyway...yes, the epilogue was a bit of a disappointment, but still rather cute. Albus Severus...beside the point of scarring that kid for life with that name, I think Harry really turned around--that line about Harry naming his kid after two headmasters and the Slytherin one being the bravest man he ever knew was such a difference from what Harry was calling Snape at the end of HBP. It gave me chills. Okay, now that I'm all depressed about all the deaths and the series being over...time to read it again, I suppose. Or write LOTS of fanfic. :)

Posted by ronforever Jul 23rd 2007

it was wonderful, but very rushed. and of course, the epilogue left many questions.

Posted by JadedMystic Jul 23rd 2007

Enjoyed every part except for the epilogue...

Posted by jlee2048 Jul 23rd 2007

I think the book as a whole was the best in the series by a longshot but the epilogue wow it left so much out. i was also dissapointed we never found out what was behind the veil or dudleys worst memory. I felt so bad for snape which i didn't think would ever be possible yet it was. The book was amazing I'm so sad its all over though I hop she writes something else soon.

Posted by shanshan Jul 23rd 2007

ok ok, was it just me, or did anyone else catch that if teddy was born right before the war, and then 19 years later, he shouldn't have still been a student? he was born in the spring and then turned 19, 19 years later before september 1st. so, unless he's failed 2 years, he shouldn't have been a student.

Posted by mily1021 Jul 23rd 2007

I loved it! And for all who couldn't figure out about Teddy. Harry did take him in. He say in the Epilogue "We don't just invite him to live with us and have done with it?" Obviously meaning since he was godfather he did take Teddy in but Teddy should be 19 at this point so he's not living with them anymore. And it would've been nice to know what careers everyone had later, but I didn't think of that until after someone else mentioned it.
