Before the chapter, "King's Cross" when Harry dies I threw the book down and I was like NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. It was 7:30 in the morning and then finally I picked the book back up and realized that Harry came back to life. Anyway. I found it annoying that Dumbledore was hiding from Harry ALL THE TIME! I mean like there were millions of opportunities in which Dumbledore could've spoken to him and..he didn't. Poop.

I broke down towards the end!!!!!! Ahh amazing.

I really loved it! I read it all on the 21st so I'm still suffering from hardcore sleep deprivation. The only thing that I really was disappointed that we didnt find out about, was how/why Pettigrew got into Gryffindor. It just doesnt make any sense to me. The other thing that I don't quite understand was why Pettigrew's hand attacked him and how Dumbledore knew it would. Maybe I just need to read that part again because I seem to be the only one who doesn't understand it. But someone earlier(I don't remember who) asked who Victoire was in the epilogue. My guess, due to the obvious Frenchiness of her name, is that she's Fleur and Bill's daughter. But all in all I LOVED this book!! Am I the only one though who feels sort of, not to sound TOO melodramatic, but...empty since there will never be anymore Harry Potter. Ever. It's so sad. I feel like my childhood just ended as I finished the last pages of Deathly Hallows. :-(

Posted by Henry514 Jul 23rd 2007

Teddy's 19 at this point, since he was born 19 years ago. Presumably, Victoire is around a year younger, since Fleur wasn't pregnant during the book. 19's too old to be on the Hogwarts Express, so what was Teddy doing there? GREAT book, Harry is awesome.

Loved Deathly Hallows!! I miss the harry potter books already! i wish there was more to the stories. I cried like a baby when i finished readingg. I miss Fred. he was one of my favourites. i wish Jo answered some mysterious questions that we all have. but maybe thats the whole point is to keep us thinking? Im going to miss the trio! Harry, Ron, and Hermione

Posted by elennor Jul 23rd 2007

I have to admit that it was a good book, but still I can stop feeling a little dissapointed by the ending... It's too confusing, and I didn't like the way Voldemort dies... And Fred died!! he was my favorite twin... I didn't like the epilogue as well, and I believe there were many things unanswered... And I don't like dumbledore anymore...

Posted by Klaj Jul 23rd 2007

I was disappointed with the "after 19 years" chapter. But the book was good, excepts some " Lord of the rings like" parts. The locket , Dumbledore etc.. (im LOTR fan too) Happy for Ginny didnt die. And very sad about Fred (I loved the twins) :( Snape turned out how I thought he will, so no suprise here. For me, the biggest surprise was Percy :) this one 8/10 in my opinion:) (The GOF is still best book for me :) )

Posted by Sjrowing Jul 23rd 2007

i personally was not moved by the deaths. all of the deaths seem to take the personal aspect out of it. the best part of the book was harry accepting his death and realizing how to open the snitch.how did dumbledore come back to life and explain everything?

Posted by Fawnie Jul 23rd 2007

I adore the last and seventh book, but the ending ... I don't know. I would have liked to read a lot more about Fred's death and what happened to all the characters. I didn't know there'd be an epilogue at all, so that was a nice surprise. Dobby's death was so sad, I sobbed a bit. And Hedwig ... oh golly, poor owl. Harry's death march was too much, I cried. There was a lot more action in this book, even from the beginning. Didn't expect that for some reason. I was scared that Ron or Hermione would die any moment, and there were times I thought one of them really would fall over dead. But as it turns out, they survived and got two kids. I'm so happy about that. This book was so complicated, more questions arose even though the previous ones hadn't yet been answered, but J.K. Rowling managed to wrap it up nicely. She's the best.

Posted by SamDansby Jul 23rd 2007

I enjoyed it. Good closure, I didn't find myself wanting something more once I was done. It'll be very interesting to see how they do this movie... so many minuscule details from all seven books become immensely important... I mean, who would have guessed that the fact that Harry caught that snitch in his mouth in HP 1 would be important in HP 7? The epilogue could have been better written... it seemed forced, as if she was trying too hard to get the information in with dialogue. Also, what are Harry's, Ron's, Hermione's, and Ginny's jobs?

Posted by miss_muggle Jul 23rd 2007

"NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU girl!" ...greatest. line. ever.

Posted by Astraste Jul 23rd 2007

I think this book was the best out of the seven. I was a hugely disappointed with the epilogue though, especially with the last sentence, "All was well" It looked rushed and didn't do anything for me. I thought Remus and Tonk's deaths were pretty random, we didn't see what happened to them and poor Teddy is going to have to grow up with no parents, just like Harry. Otherwise I loved everything else and when Harry went to his death I was crying my eyes out! I could not stop myself. Please JK! Please write a different epilogue!

Posted by Elviek Jul 23rd 2007

Deathly Hallows was the best book in the series! I felt like I was on a roller coaster until the end. The movie is going to be like an action adventure flick when it gets done. I can't wait to see what they do with it. I will have to be someone who is used to that type of pace in a film. The book will become a classic. JK Rowling is an amazing writer. I hope she writes a short book later on to answer some of the questions that were left unanswered....like......w hat happened to Luna and Dean ;) What careers did everyone have and was how come the kids didn't realize that their Dad and Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione were VERY famous :) This was an amazing experience!!! I have one child my daughter age 8 who is just starting to read book 1 for herself....I read it to her at age 5 and now she wants to read for herself and my son age 7 who is waiting for his sister to finish so he can start......I read it to him also but he wants to read it for himself..........I am also a classroom teacher who uses the books in the classroom. Students love it! At the end of the book we play muggle quidditch.......THANK YOU JK Rowling......:)

I was simply floored. I am with those questioning who it is who finds their magical powers later in life. I am rereading it to make sure I didn't miss anything. Fred's loss was a huge blow, but I predicted immediately that one of the twins was going to be amongst the lost. I was really hoping for more of an update on Harry's relationship with Teddy, particularly after the comment about what kind of a Godfather Harry would be. I have to say, the best part was Molly taking on Bellatrix. As soon as I read what I consider the best line in the book, I was terrified that another member of the Weasley clan would be going away. Can I just say Weasley is my Queen!!!! I am most impressed that she was able to make it so that noone on either side of the Harry or Voldy debate was really wrong. Overall, I am ecstatic with the conclusion. I kind of like the fact that Jo left herself a nice 19 year window, should she decide that there are more stories from Harry's world to tell us. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by littleredheadedgirl Jul 23rd 2007

I agree with so many others here! It was a fitting ending to a magnanimous thrill ride, but still left me lacking. Some questions still remain unanswered, and the epilogue - while it certainly made me happy seeing how people paired up, was an unfortunate departure from her writing style and did smack of fanfic (and I've written some). All in all, though, job very well done - for DH and the series as a whole. The best part about it - she left room for many more adventures ahead. Just because Voldemort is dead does not mean all evil is gone from the world.

Posted by the_last_hallow Jul 23rd 2007

The book was great, although flawed in some ways. I've already sayed a lot in the past new story, so I'll keep this short for now, but I just have to say although it is just starting wear off, after I finished the book I felt weird, like it was withdrawal or the fact that it was over. All better now though, lol.

Posted by Clayton Jul 23rd 2007

Pretty good book, but what about the "Viel" or the door in the department of mystery's, i want more information... what happened in those 19 years? What happened to Professor Sprout, if Neville has her job? Who is the new Head Master/Mistress, Magonigal? Why did Ron and Hermione name there son Hugo, that's such an ugly name? Who is Draco's wife? Why didn't anyone get Harry's firebolt they could have done accio charm from the Barrow? Were all those deaths really necessary...especially Dobby and Fred? AND WHO THE HELL LEARNED MAGIC LATER?!?!?!?!? That's all i can think of now...

Posted by knightowl Jul 23rd 2007

[Take from mugglenet's "confirmed information"] "JKR has said "There is a character who does manage, in desperate circumstances, to do magic quite late in life, but that is very rare..." " Who was that?

Posted by awsuchman Jul 23rd 2007

I thought the plot twists were great and overall it was brilliant. However, I hope she does tie up all the lose ends in some form or fashion.

Posted by nomars_girl Jul 23rd 2007

Loved the book! There were some inconsistencies, but it was well done. As for the epilogue, "Albus Severus Potter"? That kid is going to get beat up with a name like that. ;)

Posted by Bmel42 Jul 23rd 2007

The book was absolutely the best! The epilogue SUCKED. I might have to rip it out of my book. All the names were a bit overboard and you really didnt find out anything. I can see the thought behind it (simple and all that), but it didnt work. I LOVE how a lot of characters have their little comeback (i.e. oliver wood and so forth) and all the little details that were brought together. Neville kicked some butt in this, which was awesome. My major problem with it was Remus and Tonks: where was their death scene?! C'mon. They're my favorite characters (remus has been abused throught the whole series) and I can deal with him dying because he finally found happiness, but WHERE WAS HIS DEATH SCENE?! Other than that...brilliant!!

Posted by Rose4Harry Jul 23rd 2007

Whoa, sorry about that! Didn't know It bothered MuggleNet poeple posted their feelings on DH! This was the best book ever! The battle of Hogwaarts was my favorite, especially when Molly Weasley calls Bellatrix a girl and kills her! That was SO COOL. The only thing I thought could have had a little better storyline was the epilogue but the ennding w/ him saying his scar had not hurt in 19 years and that all was well was really fitting to end this book! thanks JK Rowling, again:-)

Posted by drj774 Jul 23rd 2007

the book was amazing. it was so perfect. i actually felt sorry for snape. all his life he was neglected at his house and even at school. He only helped harry because of his green eyes ii dont think the epilogue was needed but still it was awesome

I LOVED ALL THE RON/HERMIONE MOMENTS ESPECIALLY IN THE MALFOY MANOR CHAPTER IT WAS SO HEARTWRENCHING!!! ^__^ THE KISS WAS SO CUTE TOO!!! P. 625

Posted by hollyberries Jul 23rd 2007

i haven't decided if i liked it yet, i have to read it agian. i hope no one hates me for this, but i kind of thought the characters were out of character at some times... like the kiss between ron and hermimone... it kind of dissapointed me, they aren't like that. the epologe was hugely dissapointing to me, i want to know more than about their kids! there are so many other characters i wanted to know about! and the deaths didn't make me cry, like in previous books, i thought they weren't dramatic enough, like lupin and tonks were just kinda dead... we didn't see them die or anything... and no one really grieved for fred that much, like ron just kind of moved on within 5 minutes... but i did like it. now this will sound really really bad, but i almost wanted ron or hermione to die. don't shoot me!! i love them sooo much, but i wanted to see more emotion. and i just htought that would have triggered it more. oh but i loved when harry died and then wasnt dead, i cried for that, and then it made me so happy that was sooo so good. good book over all, i'll reread it and be happy i'm sure. :D GO JK ROWLING!!

I'm in a state of nothing haha. It's amazing finely seeing closuer, but it hurts at the same time. I got to say of any series I have ever read these books have drawn more emotion out of me, more than alot of things actually.

Posted by mystery_spell Jul 23rd 2007

In short, it was absolutely amazing. It is now my favorite book of the series, and I'm very happy with it. I'd love to thank Jo for another wonderful, brilliant, fantastic, and magical novel. I don't know what I'd do without HP in my life. It was fantastic.

Posted by dobby101 Jul 23rd 2007

Lupin, tonks, fred, dobby,he dwig, moody, colin RIP! It was great BUT... WHO did magic later in life? HOW did the sword get back in the hat? WHICH sword was the real one? WHY was the epilouge so bad? WHY did Dobby(RIP) have to die??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... ....

Posted by ajc2789 Jul 23rd 2007

Definitely the best in the series. Although slow in parts (particularly when Ron went off), from when the deathly hallows were explained until the end the book was amazing. The Snape chapter was probably the best chapter in the whole series, and I kinda liked the epilogue. I'm just a bit sad that its all over now, but a fitting conclusion.

Posted by soexcited7 Jul 23rd 2007

MY FAVORITE!!!!!! i was absolutely a sobbing mess when i thought we had lost harry. i actually really liked the epilogue. i just made me happy. it was a wonderful end for the series.

Posted by Potter_Pauly Jul 23rd 2007

This was by far the best book... The Epilogue was not what I had expected.. I am now excited about the movie on this one, I just hope WB assigns a good Director... Emerson and Ben, Thanks for a great discussion at the countdown at Oak Park, Il.. Thanks!!!

Posted by Freds_Muse Jul 23rd 2007

Someone mentioned on another page that Merope might have been the one who performed magic later in life, however, I do not know when JKR said that we would see that...was it before or after book 6? I loved the book but felt like a lot of things went unanswered...dare I say - it felt rushed to me. Overall though, I enjoyed it immensely.

Posted by Aafje Jul 23rd 2007

My feelings are still mixed up. I still don't know whether to hate Jo or love her. The epilogue was so sappy, and although the deaths of Fred, Dobby, Tonks and Lupin hit me hard, they didn't feel like 'major deaths'. I kind of counted on one of the trio to die. Or Ginny...

Posted by ali26 Jul 23rd 2007

I have a question.. Sorry if someone as already explained this. I dont want to look trhough three pages of comments. On page 125 in the American version, they call her Hermione JEAN Granger. I thought her middle name was Jane? Is this just a typo?

Posted by unforgivablycursed Jul 23rd 2007

amazing...i cried at points, none of the other books have ever made me cry. I think this my favorite book now but i'm not sure i'll have to reread. tear for snape. favorite lines.. GET AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER YOU girl! that's the second time we saved your life you two-face bastard of course it's in your head, but that doesn't mean it's not real.

Posted by fawkes6jgm Jul 23rd 2007

it was simply incredible. well worth the long, long wait. i cried when dobby and fred died, not so much lupin/tonks because it kind of just glanced over it, not as dramatic. i was trembling when we found out that harry was actually a horcrux because i thought from that point on that he was going to die (like he himself thought). before reading the book, when thinking about the ending, i thought i would cry like a little girl, but i found that when i finished the book, i could do nothing but smile and laugh and be happy for harry's now peaceful life. it was a great feeling and i only cired a little when i went to bed that night haha. but i disagree with some of the comments, i thought that the epilogue was great, of course it did have some questions unanswered (although they were minor and unimportant). it was nice to see harry and ginny and ron and hermione sending their kids off to Hogwarts, and seeing draco their. it was nice to see that even nineteen years later, they had not changed since their years wandering the hogwarts corridors. definitely my favorite of the entire series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER

Posted by Dan_fan Jul 23rd 2007

I loved it!!!! I cried at every death!! I was not expecting Fred to die! I still cry whenever I think about the book. Just knowing that it is the last makes me cry! I cant stand it.

Posted by PottersPrincess4eva Jul 23rd 2007

IT WAS SOOO COOL!!!!! though i have to agree with many people that the epilogue was rather dissapointing. I wonder if she might concider doing a sequal based on the lives of harry's children, Albus, lilly, and James. Or perhaps a prequal about James Sirius Remus, and Peter. I still cant believe the series is over, it cant end, even with such a great, beautifully written book. I LOVED the deathly hallows.

Posted by sariebell147 Jul 23rd 2007

I loved the book. There were some really funny parts and parts where I was shocked. The last 5 chapters I was cring my eyes out... i liked the epilogue and lot but it was very confuzing when the were first saying the names, I just wished the J.K Rowling wrote a little more bout very one else like the whole rest of the Weasley family and what all of their jobs were. I wish she told us more about Harry's parents and family too. I was crying so hard at the part when Harry brought back his parents and Sirius and then the whole time Harry was talking to Dumbledore and then when he defeated Voldemort. I really wished that Snape didnt did because he could have told Harry so uch more about his past. And I really want to know who the 2 people that werent goin to die, but did. It was an Awsome book, J.K. Rowling really out did herself! I wish she would Write another book. But I guess we will just have to say goodbye to Harry, Ron, and Hermionie! So many of us have grown up with a trio and the stories of Witches and Wizards. So I must say goodbye, we will all miss you!

Posted by mkminerva Jul 23rd 2007

3 answers (maybe?) to 3 questions: 1) why only 759 pages? b/c 784 included dedications, title pages, etc. All pages in the book (not just the story) add up to 784. 2) Who is Victoire? Definitely a Weasley cousin to Harry and Ginny's kids. Either Bill and Fleur's daughter (name sounds French) or Ron and Hermione's daughter (named after Krum? I think the first option is WAY more likely) 3) How did the sword get back into the Sorting Hat? I think the same way it got there in the first place - a true Griffindor needs help, so the Hat provides. Obviously the Hat was somewhere else the first time Harry pulled it out (otherwise generations of Hogwarts students would've been smashed in the head with it), so the Hat must have some sort of charm or enchantment that makes the sword appear when needed. That's the best I can come up with anyway. As for magic later in life, I've heard some theories (Ariana, Trewlaney, Ted Tonks, Hagrid, Stan Shunpike, Dudley,) but none of these seem like a satisfactory answer.

Posted by allaway18 Jul 23rd 2007

sooo brilliant. best ever!!! Epilogue left a little to be desired but wow!! the rest was so emotional, so well written and completly fantastic! I want a book 8!!!!

Posted by ko2007 Jul 23rd 2007

she should have written an epilogue that was longer to include the jobs the trio had and ginny too and who was minister of magic and who was head of hogwarts and like what happened to the rest of the DA and such. Other than that the bookw as the best in the series, followed by order of the phoenix and prisoner of azkaban, then half blood prince then goblet of fire then sorcerers stone and then chamber of secrets ~Kris

Posted by Shewbydo Jul 23rd 2007

what a whirlwind of emotions. so fast paced that it was hard to even process the deaths. didn't like the epilogue - other than that I feel sure this will be my fav book.

Posted by padfoot_prongs Jul 23rd 2007

its a relive that this final book is here. i'm so excited that i just cant put it down. JKR really surprised use all....i mean a happy ending! who would have thought!!!!

Posted by mischiefmanaged41 Jul 23rd 2007

I loved the book the beginning was intense and hedwig and mad eyes death was a blow but the middle seemed to drag for me though we learned alot of pertinent information i craved the answers to my long awaited questions. For me personally Fred's death was unexpected and not needed, i cried so hard as I am a huge fan of Fred and George, it was just too much for me. Some loose ends still are hanging out there but I have to say I loved it and have been rereading it ever since i finished!

Posted by Kimionee Jul 23rd 2007

SO GOOD! Best in the series, IMHO. I cried my eyes out over F.W., had to put the book down while I sobbed. Perhaps the person who did magic later in life was Ron, speaking Parseltongue? Just a thought. Otherwise I can't imagine who it was. Very disappointed in the US cover art - it makes no sense without a wand in Harry's hand. Really enjoyed the mental image of the UK cover art when I got to the part about Bellatrix's vault! Thank you, Jo, for a phenomenal end to a magnificent reading experience!

Posted by wiccanteen Jul 23rd 2007

the book was brilliant! jo knows how to go out with a bang is all i can say. that book was actually physically and emotionally exhausting to read. whoever says harry potter is a kids book just needs to read one chaptwer of that and theyll change their opinion pretty fast! but did anyone else catch the reference to book 5 in snapes story??? i thought it was pretty interesting that snape is explaining to lily what dementors are and petunia is spying on them, then in book 5 petunia says she heard that "awful" boy telling lily about them, though never says it was james...... you rule jk, thank you for giving my life a point for these past 10 years!

Posted by Matrinka Jul 23rd 2007

I actually went through 3 boxes of Kleenex over this book. I adored every bit of it. I personally LIKED the epilogue. (Even Albus Severus Potter.) It felt like JKR was handing the book over to her fans at that part - we know Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny have their "happily ever after" - but they have the future *we* endow upon them. We can speculate all we want with it. Personally, I missed seeing Luna... but ahh well. I'll keep my fingers crossed for JKR to update us in the future, if she wishes.

Posted by lovewicked Jul 23rd 2007

Amazing.....Mindblowing.. ..Left me speechless. I was sad to see who went & I started to freak out a bit when Harry realized he must die, that was the one thing I had wanted, Harry not to die, and he survived! Thing you've got to remember about the epilogue is that JK had said she wrote the ending a long, long time ago. Although I could have done with few less kids, I enjoyed it. And I like that you didn't know their professions at the end, mystery is a huge part of the series and I'm glad that some things were not answered.
