also who noticed? POTTERWATCH! totally pottercasting the wizarding world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really loved that i think emersone and melissa's sites inspired that part and did you notice? River - Jordan Royal . Kingsley Romolus - remus (Romolus and Remus where the kids who ere raised by a wolf that built Rome) that was great but hey, what were Lily and james jobs? what did i miss????? and so, snape was in love with lily why's that so important in harry's eyes? if harry had had james' eyes it would not have made any difference, Snape would have protected him all the same so what was all the fuss about? and who was the creature who could perform magic in later life?
I thought it was very good, of course. And yes, the deaths were sad; who's ever heard of a 'happy death'? Okay, that wasn't phrased quite right, but oh well. And at least Remus and Tonks died together, right? Much better than having one of them live. Imagine how terrible that would be? *shudder* And it's not like Teddy won't have so many people around him to care for him. As for the rest of the book; it may have been because I read it in ten hours, or something like that, but i felt that it went kinda quick. And there were a few things that aren't quite rounded off and answered in the end. But, all-in-all, I liked it, and I liked how it ended. Not flawless, but excellenet, nevertheless. And, Mugglenet staff, are you sure you're not just doing this to see how many people are registered? *laugh* taylor77139: the book was only 759 pages long b/c that was how long JKR made it. violetmarie17: the deaths were sudden becuase we were seeing them through Harry's eyes and harry's thoughts. It was Harry's POV. He was busy doing other things for the three hours or so the battle was going on. And jkisgod: who cares about Lily and James' occupations? I know they talked about it on Mugglecast, but what's important about these was that they died! Voldy spared Lily not becuase she was important to his plans, but becuase Snape wanted him to spare her, becuase he loved her. Well... I think I've written enough. :-) One more thing: Did anyone catch the typo on page 428: '"Why not?"Harry asked.' X'D
I loved it! As other people have said, it was so different than the rest in the series but still maintained the same tone. I was a little disappointed with Dumbledore, I felt like we lost a hero, or maybe it's just because Harry was growing up, it was time to him to realize that no adults are perfect. Did anyone catch the dates on Lily and James' gravestones...if they died in 1981, Harry had to be born in 1980, which means that if he was 17, the book took place in 1997! Go figure...Harry'd be 27 today!
Reading the comments so far has been interesting. Personally I thought she did a great job tying in such a huge series. She hit all the key points and pulled it all together. For those of you making judgments about her "leaving things out" or her epilogue...so she said there would be things in it that weren't...why do you need to know what the Potter's jobs were??? Does it change the story for you somehow. And as for the epilogue...what did you want it to be about. They went on to lead normal lives...get married, have kids...I think that is great because they truly overcame the horrors and sadness in their lives and moved on! I applaud JK for a WONDERFUL series and hope that her writing will find a new story for us all to follow!
I need JKR to do like an extension on the epilogue, so many unanswered questions. Plus, what ever happend to the Veil and the Love Room and whatnot? Epilogue: corny, but ok. The names...made me shutter. BUT IT WAS THE BEST FREAKIN BOOK EVER! Just so much came together, and it just... fit.
this was definitely the best book. i loved it! it Was pretty depressing at some points but i'm glad that no one from the trio died and i'm really happy that Ginny and Harry and Hermione and Ron got together in the end..it was an amazing book in my opinion i just wish that there were more books coming ='( well to Jo: Great Job! Loved it. =)
I thought the book was really good in most areas, like the plot in the middle and i loved the whole concept of the Deathly Hallows, but the epilouge totally disappointed me...it was so cheesy. I had expected someone more important than like lupin or fred to die, that sort of also lowers my expectations. I think the book is my 2nd favorite in the series, next to the 6th book. It was really good but lacked a little something that JK usually puts into her books. overally, awesome
Three words- BEST BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! I was hoping to get a bit more in the epilouge, and certain mysteries weren't explained, like the veil. But it was still AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!
this is officially my favorite one... i cried while reading the book, im still crying though im done reading there were things i didn't like... i was soo sure that harry was gonna die and the fact that he lived made the story a bit too happy.. i don't like the epilogue at all....i never liked ginny that much soo harry ending up w/ ginny displeased me.. i was always an h/hr shipper and i always will be so maybe thats why i didn't like the ending. but besides that, the book was amazing...
By the way, what is the creature under the chair in the chapter "King Cross" that dumbledore says it cant be helped??!?!?
If you take out the epilouge and maybe the last two pages, it was awesome. SIG! Knew it. I
It was a mammoth of a book. It had many twists and turns that I could not have seen coming. Then again, a few things that I had predicted were spot on. Death had a big part, whether it was deserving or not. I am reminded of one of my favorite passages, '"Does it hurt?' The childish question had fallen from Harry's lips before he could stop it. 'Dying? Not at all,' said Sirius. 'Quicker and easier than falling asleep.'" These few lines made me content with all the deaths, even the ones that hurt like Dobby, Fred, Lupin, Tonks, and even Snape. Seeing "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore" was fantastic. I was very pleased and heart-broken about his past. As for Severus Snape and Lily Potter? Jo is a genius!! The final battle was incredible ("'Not my daughter, you b*tch!!'") However, the book did have a few holes. I wish that Jo would have cleared up a few more things for me. (i.e. the Department of Mysteries) Nevertheless, the book was still satisfying, and its epilogue made me smile. I will never refrain from reading the books over and over and will always thanks Jo for making 10 years of my life magical!
Rosie and Huge stand for "R & H". Just like Ron and Hermione, no?
i laughed, i cried. i loved it. not all was answered, not all that was promised was given. but the slight disappointment is nothing compared to the incredible joy the books have given me the past eight years. Overall, amazing, unexpected, and really, it was everything as it should have been.
also, it was necessary to cast that odd light upon Dumbledore to show how good Harry is for not wanting this power and burden, bur for accepting it. It's just saying how much of a better person/wizard that Harry is.
Brilliant! A little but too predictable in places but also some good twists to keep it exciting! I was very disappointed in the epilogue as it told us very little about any of the more minor characters and not all that much about the major ones. My favourite parts were Percy turning up and Ron and Hermione finally getting together :D I didn't like that Harry was the 7th horcrux because the 7th part surely had to be in Voldemort meaing his soul was kinda split into 8. I had convinced myself he couldn't be because of that and was very annoyed when it said he had to die but this was rectifies when he didn't actually die. Not sure they can do this book justice in a film! :D:D:D
they kissed! they kissed! they kissed! they kissed! Ron and Hermione kissed! the book was amazing and now i am so depressed. Jo, how could u do that? Ending the series? I mean, it's like ripping out my heart! :( But hats off too u Jo. Best series i've ever read- Fan Forever
@Brat_attack Ron just imitated the sound of parceltounge a few time and got lucky.
Great book... But the epilogue left me quite unsatisfied. I wish she'd done what she did in previous books... Devote a few last chapters to what happens after a big fight, etc. But she didn't do that. The war ends, and then it goes straight to the epilogue. We don't find out how the Weasleys or the rest of the wizarding world copes with all the deaths. I would've liked to have seen Snape get a proper funeral as well..... and the epilogue didn't even discuss a lot of the other characters we've come to know and love. If only she could've included more, I would've been more satisfied. *sigh*
And...what scene is the US cover??
loved the final chapters *wipes away tears* i was devestated wen harry died, but loved how he came back ...the epilogue was ok, but i REALLY wanted to see harry become hogwarts new headmaster...or an auror at least. I also wished the dursleys somehow came in at the end. i loved the fact that krum was re-introduced. but ya...y was the book only 759 pages?? and wasn't scar supposed to be the last word??
WOW! I am still in awe! (I could do without the Epilogue though)
it was totally awsum!! i mean there were things i was hoping 2 learn that we didnt and sum things that i didn't approve of(i thought only 2 ppl were gonna die)my fav. harry potter will always be poa but it was, as i said b4, awsum!!!!!
" NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU B****!!!" Mrs. Weasley rocks and was awesome in killing of Lestrange...she deserved it!!!
Wow. I'm a sappy person so I LOVED the epilogue (pleez dont kill me). I absolutely HATED 1 thing. WHY DID DOBBY HAVE TO DIE?!?!?! I luv him! His death was so pointless. I cried 4 hours. I luv how Dumbledore's background made him more human. I still really wanna know what Harry GInny Ron Hermione, Lily + James's jobs were, but all in all, DH is the best book yet. :-)
I loved it. It became my favorite book right away. I was just a bit disappointed with the epilogue. It was kind of out-of-place but still cute. I wish there was more the epilogue though like what are Harry, Ginny, Hermione, and Ron's jobs? I've got to say though, favorite chapter: "The Prince's Tale." Snape completely made me love him in that chapter and I was so sad and I just wished the he got together with Lily but then the book wouldn't be here. AND VOLDEMORT WAS RELATED TO HARRY?!! I was like WHOAH. Then the battle at Hogwarts was amazing and sad. FRED! WHYYY? I loved him. You can't have the Weasleys without the hilarious twins. And Lupin and Tonks. :[ I like how Hermione and Ron got together though, it was funny and I loved the little clues of them getting closer and closer... Poor Ron with the locket incident but he got the girl. And now I remember something I think from PoA or OotP when Petunia said something about "Lily hanging out with that freak boy" and all along I thought it was James.. Definite favorite of the series.
J.K. Rowling REALLY out did herself. This is her BEST book!!! Some parts really made me mad. One was when Fred died! I also still hate that Snape killed Dumbledore. Even if He asked him to. It was still wrong!
I thought this book was incredibly obscure. I miss the structure of the old ones (y'know; summer at Dursley's, Harry's escape/rescue, time with Ron and Hermione, Hogwarts, year-long mystery, climax, denoument, Harry leaving Hogwarts), but I s'pose a change is nice once in awhile. I really liked the beginning, but the part with the trio camping out in the woods for most of the middle was getting a tad tedious; I liked it, but I wanted to see more secondary characters. I really loved the battle at Hogwarts (except of course when Fred died, I was completely hysterical), and all I could think while reading this was "Warner Brothers is going to have a fun time turning this into a movie." The part where Hermione kissed Ron was so charming, I couldn't help but smile. It was very sweet of her to have him say something about Elf Rights and have her jump all over him. I could tell just from reading about it that those two have been waiting to do that since maybe their first year ;-) I was _________ (I don't want to use the word "disappointed") with the epilouge. I thought it was very trite and it left a lot to be desired. I felt it unneccessary for her to tell us who got married because I knew in my heart of hearts that as long as the four of them (as in Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermione, respectively) stayed alive, then it was inevitable that they would get married. What I really wanted to know was anything that happened in just a year or two after the battle of Hogwarts/the defeat of Voldemort happened. I wanted to know how the wizarding world was rebuilt, who the new head of Hogwarts was, and even the beginning of the official relationship between Ron and Hermione. I also wanted to know what became of the four of them (as in occupations, where they lived etc.) rather than just see it 19 years later. I'll be honest, but I felt the epilouge read like a very well-written fan fiction. Overall I liked the book so much. I really can't think of a better way for the series to en...
The Epilogue could have contained a bit more information, but overall, I'm very satisfied with the book. Despite that 4 of my favorite characters died. R.I.P Dobby Fr ed Reamus Tonks
anyone else upset that young Teddy Lupin was orhpaned so young? I think she might have spared one of his parents . . . and as godfather, I suppose Harry should have taken him in, right?
Oh I loved it! But I would have really liked to know what happened to Fortesque, I don't know how to spell it. The ice cream guy. But over all very good!
aaaaaawwwwwwwweeeeeeeeess sssssooooooommmmmmmeeeeee e.cant believe its over.book was amazing though, even if it did leave a few questions unanswered and the epilogue was a bit didappointed. but other than that it might be my favorite yet.
It is well over 24 hours after I finish the book and I just finally broke down for Snape. I knew he would die for the past two years so when I got to the part where he did only a tear came to my eyes, but as I was driving home from the store I thought of him and it was like a waterfall had been turned on im my eyes. I WILL FOREVER LOVE SNAPE! RIP to all who died.
It was good. But didn't clarify a lot of things. Anyway great book but still HBP remains my favourite. The Epilogue was very disappointing. We wanted to know what happened to everyone, not just the trio and their obvious spouses, draco malfoy and neville longbottom. Who's the new head of Hogwarts, probably McGonagall but still and what about the other members of the D.A. and did Draco really have a reprieve or is he the same Muggle-born hating Pureblood git?
Okay well I loved the book it was the best ever in the series well it probably is tied with one of the others IMO...I wasn't that crazy about the Epilogue...here are some things I want to know... -Why Grindelwald was still alive according to JK he was dead unless she meant he was nothing but a weak old man who probably couldn't do a simple card trick... - What did Teddy know about his parents did he know they died to make a better world for him... - I mean Albus Severus had meaning but why Albus Severus how about SEVERUS JAMES POTTER/ or vice versa... now IMO that sounds like a good name... - I wanted to know more about the Weasleys like what exactly Percy was doing at Kings Crossing; What George was up to without his counterpart like how his buisness was; Also they kind of didnt' go into detail about Fleur and Bill's daughter that would have been interesting... - Okay if I was writing this story I would have ended the story in two parts first the epilogue takes place at the Weasleys they all sit down for dinner and then maybe the next day they go to Kings Crossing that would have been a better way to give closure we saw most of the main characters at Dinner since there all tied together somehow then we find out its a going away dinner for the grandchildren... - Also what jobs did the Trio take up maybe Jo left us with so much unanswered to make ROOM FOR A POSSIBLE EIGHTH BOOK SHE SAID SHE WILL NOT CANCEL IT OUT JUST YET IF SO IT WOULD BE FOR CHARITY... Well that's my feelings...
i thought it was a great book, but i was disappointed by voldy's death, it seemed a little anti-climatic... also the last chapter felt like a start of a fanfic, didn't answer many questions. and who was the squib who managed magic later in life?i think the book could have stood to been a little longer, even if it ment waiting another year for it. but all in all i think i have to agree with this comic : http://www.homeonthestran ge.com/view.php?ID=236
The most amazing book by far. i told pretty much anyone that would listen how amazing it was, i may have gotten pretty boring at some point. i think the best part was when ron came back to Harry and Hermione and destroyed the locket horcrux. SEVERUS SNAPE IS MY NEW HERO!!
I thought the book was really really good. I felt that i was on the edge of my seat the whole time, wondering what was going to happen next. One thing i actually missed was being in hogwarts itself, it was greatly missed. I thought the epilogue was quaint, very cute, but left a lot of things unanswered. Losing Fred was a tough blow, but overall I dont think the book was as sad as then end of 6. I loved the Snape story, it made me feel really bad for him and really appreciate what a good character he really was. Very good book- 2 thumbs up!
I couldn't believe when you where on chapter 12 it was still summer. My dad read the first chapter and he was boring me with his boring old voice. That was weird that Dudley actually said "Thank you". I was surprised that Snape loved Lilly. At least I have a lot of spells for my "Standard Book of Spells Grade seven".
I really liked this book! not my favorite though! Dobby! Sooooooooo Sad! I too wish there was a little bit more to the epilogue, but it's still good! I loved Neville killing the snake, and Mrs. Weasley and Bellatrix! YOU girl! Hehehehe. although I don't like swear words, I loved how Mrs. Weasley yelled at Bellatrix! Too bad Neville didn't kill her though! I felt sure that Neville was going to get Bella! Sad that it's over! JKR rules!
KateyLou- It was that like one second moment in the Great Hall between when Voldemort Avada Kedavra-ed Harry and when he died. His wand had flown up in the air and I guess Harry's did too.
This was the most amazing book of the series. J.K. Rowling has really outdone herself. I bow down to her. Thank you so much for writing these books, I can't believe they are over. I cried my eyes out when Harry realized that he had to die and he was walking past all of the people that he knew and loved. I was bawling when Harry brought back his mom, dad, Lupin, and Sirius. The way Aberforth watched over Harry was incredible especially since he had never been fond of his brother, and when Dobby rescued them from the mansion and then died it was like parting from a dear friend. All of the questions in previous books were answered here and it is perfectly tied together. I loved the bits of humour in it too. Like George's ear jokes, Kreacher fighting for his master at the end, Percy making a joke, and Mrs. Weasley being ver protective of her daughter. It made a very dark book somewhat more cheery. I love Harry Potter and I am sad that the series has come to an end. But, the very well written epilogue consloed me a bit. Harry Potter has been such a big part of my life and I thank you J.K. Rowling for helping it get there. P.S. I got the book first at my book store! Out of 400 I was first! I still can't believe it! :)
Just occurred to me... why weren't the house elves blasting people? We know they have powerful magic! They should have been using magic and cleavers.
This book was amazing but it broke my heart i can't believe its over and I can't believe all those we lost='(
I'm probably going to be boo'ed for this, but I was a bit disappointed. The book was amazing, honestly, as they always are---but I wanted more information. I didn't catch who used magic late in life, and I guess the reason Harry's eyes are so like Lily's is the whole deal with Snape...(right?) The epilogue could have been better, yes--I wanted to find out about the leftover Weasley twin and about their jobs, Neville, Luna, etc. And didn't she promise we'd find out about the teacher's families? Did I miss it? Of course, I still love the story. It's Harry Potter, and it's hard not to. And yes, it was still amazing, but Goblet of Fire will always be my favorite. The questions, though--she does say on her website that it's staying open to answer questions, so I'm satisfied. I love Jo, I love Harry Potter, and I honestly can not wait to share the series with my children.
My best friend and I have agreed...Deathly Hallows is the best of the series... The ending between Voldy and Harry was so well done, and one of my favorite moments. Another of my favorite moments was when Ron pulled the sword of Gryffinndor from the lake and destroyed the locket. It was an awesome moment! I also thought the entire chapters "The Prince's Tale" and "The Forest Again" were so well-written, heartwrenching, but beautiful. Loved the trio in this one, they really came together. R.I.P to all the ones who didn't make it...Mad-Eye, Dobby, Lupin, Tonks, Hedwig... astroanna
I did post my comments on the brilliance!!!!! of this book yesterday and so know want to put in some theories just wildly off the top of my head - after re-reading the epilogue I think Harry is the Minister for Magic though the role itself would be quite different to that we have experianced. I decided this because of a. Harry wanting to avoid talking to Percy about broomsticks & b. Harry has always been the natural leader but not (as Dumbledore was) tempted by power, so he would have the best qualities for the job - plus evrybody would have wanted it. & c. Draco's curt nod. I do think though that this position wasn't taken up until perhaps just before the epilogue is set and that is why everybody stares at him even though they would have seen him before at James' depature. I think him and Ginny live at Grimmauld place and that Teddy lives with his Gran but she is old and so he spends a lot of time with the Potters. I think Hermy & Ron live a very 'muggleish' life so as to be near Hermy's parents - being separted from them was the hardest thing she had to do in the war so keeping them close would be a priority. I think Ginny & Harry probably got back together at Fred or Lupin's funeral. And Hermione and Ron were fully together ;) soon after the battle. I think Hermione would have probably insisted they all finish their NEWTS and that her and Ron wait to get married and have kids while they sorted out their careers (her job being in the new 'equal rights for all magical beings dept' of the new ministry) thats why James is older than their kids. - i.e. she got clucky when Ginny had a baby and decided they should try for one and had Rosie the same time Ginny had Albus Severus. I think George probably coped ok without Fred he probably found it hard to get as cose to anyone though apart from perhaps Percy and may have had a few failed marriages and kids along the way. Neville's probably married someone pretty and unlikely like Parvati and Luna ended up with Dea...
Excellent! Best book of the series. Jo outdid herself. As for all the complainers out there, nobody can ever please everybody!
Rosie and Hugo stand for "R & H". Just like Ron and Hermione, no?
my biggest surprise---mrs. weasley finishing off bellatrix. i totally thought some other order member would be involved and that neville would at least be the tiniest bit involved. great book, although the beginning was a little slow to me. well, maybe slow isn't the best word, but it took awhile for me to get into it. =]
