I thought it was brilliant! I loved the end as well, I was so happy they were all ok! it was my perfect ending, can't stop smiling about it! Christmas eve at Godric's hollow was beautiful and touching, but what on earth is going to happen to George now?? Can read them forever safe int he knowledge that all is well. It's an amazing achievement for jkr, we have so much to thank her for!
I absolutely loved this book! I think it's the best one out of all seven, but I was hoping some more questions could of been answered.
did anyone feel like the few chapters in which harry, ron, and hermionie were moving from location to location to look for horcruxes bickering and out of a plan to be sort of dull?
Am i the only one who felt that Voldemort was too considerate? like ok you have till midnight to give me harry potter then I'll start killing you all, then oh I'm giving you an hour to sort out your wounded and your dead then I'll start again. its not very war like, i've never heard of a war having a half time. As i have always felt the character of Voldermort was not this accommodating, he would just be on a rampage to find Harry and kill him and not like linger around. it just seemed a ploy to give harry time and it seemed rushed cause things conveniently fell into place. Also considerings with Percy's random appearance, if he was going to redeem him self he would of been much more useful earlier on in the book, not just popping out of a hole in a comical fashion, for one how on earth would he know to turn up there? just to state I'm not bashing the book i enjoyed it thoroughly but there where just a few too many convenient coincidences.
Absolutely Awesome!!! I will read it again so I can enjoy the whole thing once more. The chapter on Snape was incredible and the battle was better than those of Lord of the Rings! JK really DID it this time!! The best book ever! Although now im questioning myself about who is the character that made magic later in life?? again it was incredible!!
i cant believe its over!! :( i thought it was well worth the wait. it was totally brilliant! i must admit that i cried in some parts; jk did a great job tying up all the loose ends! just one question: who are victorie's parents???
YAY JO! The beginning battle was great, and the final battle was absolutely brilliant and epic! My heart was pounding and my hands were shaking like crazy. Who would've guessed that Mrs. Weasley was so.. badass.. she got all up in Bellatix's face and went SHAZAAMM!!! I wish she hadn't left poor little Teddy an orphan though. :(
I finished it Saturday afternoon cause I couldn't put it down! At one point I read for 10 hours straight. I thought the epilogue was satisfying despite what others say, JK wrote it the way she intended so it was great. Who used magic later in life? I must have missed it. I've never cried more in my life than I did when I read this book. WHY DID TONKS AND LUPIN HAVE TO DIE?!?!?! I know it's a war and all but WHY?!?! They just settled down, they had Teddy!!! I just sobbed when I read about their deaths. My little brother walked in my room just as I read about Dobby dying and he was perplexed to see me crying over a book. Way to many people died, didn't she say 2 were going to die? If she meant central characters I cannot decide which 2 she was referring too. I wonder who got the reprive? Poor George!! He lost his best friend and twin! I was ecsatic when Kreacher became happier and nicer to our beloved trio. One of my favorite parts was when Ron and Hermione kissed, that was great! Dumbledore's history was so awesome to read, we hadn't learned to much about Grindelwald in previous books so that was great to read about. I'm also glad they met Aberforth. I also loved Snape's story! Lily, YES!I had guessed that since OotP and my friends thought I was crazy. The Hallows story was sooo cool! Ooo I also loved it when everyone turned up in the Room of Requirement and rallied around Harry and Neville. That git Ron though, he thought Hermione prefered Harry?!?!?! Oh boy. That was my favorite one by far! The entire series is just so great, this one wrapped it up in a fantastic way. I'm truly depressed though about all the deaths.USA Today said a grief conselor was not needed, they were somewhat wrong. I'm gonna get another copy cause mine is tearstained from Hedwig's death to the end. Some of my friends don't understand the Harry Potter phenomena but I say that after being a loyal fan from the beginning, Harry becomes a part of daily life. And now we have sorta lost that. :(
WOW! The book was amazing! I can't beleive the series is over but it ended wonderfully. I was very surprised at how happy it had ended but it was a nice surprise. I couldn't think of a better way to end the series. :D
i felt pretty satisfied with the epilogue...just a couple of questions.... 1. we never found out about the veil through which Sirius fell 2. who was the person who did magic in later life? other than that i thought it was awesome! but some of the parts were kind of slow.....and i think they're going to have a really big problem with the movie because nearly every part in the book is really crucial so i don't think the movie is going to be that good....
the Ron & Hermione kiss. perfect. absolutely perfect. but.... as amazing as the book & especially the end (minus the epilogue) was... hardcore depressing for most of it, no?
Are there plans to chat with Jo about this last book?
Brilliant!!! Never a dull moment!! However, I agree that the epi was a bit weak. It was nice to have one and to know they were all happy and that Harry finally had a family but it was slightly cheesey and overall disappointing. I wish Rowling had added info bout the paths they had all taken career wise. After all, they didn't complete their last year at Hogwarts....
I honestly feel like I lost a truly dear friend. I am 22 years old and I have only been a fan of the "book" series since 2003 when OOTP came out, but I am overjoyed and filled with emotion now. I am so depressed and distraught at the action and death and spectacular new spells JK introduced, and I am still very excited at the ending of Harry Potter. Yes, we all have questions, but if we just use our imaginations, as JK has wanted us to do all these years, we'll do fine. If JK chose to write again, and release volume 8 of the book 9/1/17, I would definitely buy it, but if not, this is enough closure for me. As for Teddy, Teddy was 19, so he was already out of Hogwarts, which is why he was kissing Victoire to see her off. I can't wait until the forums open tomorrow so I can read and post the theories and responses I have!!
LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER! i dont think the epilouge was good... couldve been better, such an amazing book with mixed emotions! But we never got the answer to why some who die become ghosts and some dont!
i dont understand why people are calling the deaths in the book pointless. there was no point in anyone dying. but that is what happens in war. they were not supposed to be significant in any way. the were just there because if they wern't, it would be unrealistic. loved the book. did anyone else catch the tie in to the 5th book with snape and petunia? when knew what the dementors were she said she heard "that boy" telling lily about them! IT WAS SNAPE!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!SNAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! POOR MAN MY HEART GOES TO YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!! I CRIED THROUGHOUT THE CHAPTER "PRINCE'S TALE" ITS SO SAD SUCH A BRAVE MAN DUMBLEDORE'S MAN THRU AND THRU
don't forget- its daniel radcliffes birthday!! happy bday dan!!
i think I am with everybody that the epoiloge was not the best but the rest of the book was AMAZING! This book is SO different then the others. I mean 3rd chapter and someone is already dead. I loved the on-the-run sense and that it seemed that harry was so much more mature and different in this book. harry's whole speech to voldemort at the end was AMAZING. That and when he came out of Snape's memory's from when voldemort "killed" him, was my FAVORITE part in all of Harry Potter. He was so brave and faced it like such a man that it tore me APART. I mean when he whispered "I'm about to die" the whole thing BLEW me away. I can SO picture that in the movie to.... they should like cut the sound and have dramtic music and like shoot harry walking out torwards the forbidden forest with red and green lights shooting in every which way over him. SO many charicters shown there true colors in this book.... HARRY, neville, percey, fred, george, ginny, and so many more. I also liked the the random killings like fred, crabbe, and collin creevy. Not because theyy died, no, because it showed that they were in a war. It made it realistic. Like random people died because everyone was in danger. not those SUPER close to Harry like ron and hermione. i also DO NOT think this book should have been called harry potter and the deathlyy hallows. i think it was more horcrux and battleing based then the Deathly Hallows... I like the title Harry Potter and the elder wand witch is probaly extremely close to the one she almost chose. The taboo on voldy's name was pretty cool too and i wanted to SLAP ron in the face when he left. on a final note cause this post is REALLY long, they are going to have there hands tied behind there backs when it comes to movie making time because mostly EVERYTHING is so IMPORTANT to the plot line. I mean of course cutting a few camping trips and some news articles and possibly the wedding if they set up the the whole overthrowing the ministry thing a bit differeny...
anvilsized - Thanks.
Best surprise for me was Kreacher. I loved it. He made me laugh. One ray of light is this painful end. Yeah for Kreacher!
I thought this book was done really well. You could tell she put a lot of time and effort into it, but I was tore up about Snape's death and his whole story. He has always been my favorite character because I had a sneaking suspicion that there was more to him then met the eye. And when he used the doe Patronus with Dumbledore, I lost it. I cried when Dobby died and bawled when Snape bit it. Man....I'm still a little depressed. Anyone feel the same? This book will make a great movie. I defintely agree that the epilogue came off like a bad fanfiction though.
omg omg i lost notion of time i did not sleep nor eat it was ALL harry potter i LOVED the book it was the best so far, even though the epilogue didn't tell everything we wanted to know, but it was the best and will ever be. i hpe rowling keeps on writing about this HUGE and GREAT story like, the reader's guide she already expressed her thoughts about and if not, i would LOVE to read more stuff written by her she is AWESOME and BRILLIANT it all came off as smoothly and powerful and stormy and surprising as it should and as we all expected it from the begginning. THANKS for all JK and also mugglenet for being my best chosen website for being up to date on potter's happenings.
ok, so harry dies but lives and poor snape dies for no reason
did anyone understand why they had to save Snape blood in the flask it seemed like they would need it again but it wasn't mentioned have that.
I feel like I'm grieving. Its weird that HP is over.....I cant really believe it. I thought Colin's death was unnesserary and so was Fred's. RIP guys! I was a little disappointed that Mrs. Weasley killed Bellatrix (even tho she was hilarious) Overall, I enjoyed it but I wanted to see more in the epilogue. LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER.
Loved every minute of this book. I was whisked of into another world for the two days it took me to read it. I liked the ending and thought it was a good way to close of the Harry Potter series, If anything else bad had happened to him it would have turned into a soap opera. I was a little dissapointed not to hear more about the weasleys at the end. Im glad that the story didnt turn into a game of "Warcraft" and kept things straight forward. Thanks for such a great read JKR, hope you write something else about the world you have created as it now exists in millions of peoples imaginations.
I'm not going to go into full detail about my thoughts, because it would most likely take around ten posts. Instead, I'll summarize by saying how I agree with sms on many parts. I had to stop and look up numerous times throughout the book to think what I had just read through. This book had such an intense and thorough plot that if you missed one small part, you would be lost at some other part along the way. Overall, though, I thought the book was incredibly well done on JKR's part. She tied the knots closed to numerous things and in my opinion, did so in an extremely well-written manner. I absolutely adored the 'The Prince's Tale' chapter. I admit; I was completely wrong when it comes to my theory about Snape. I was convinced he was evil. Indeed, at the release "ball" I attended Friday night, when I saw Severus Snape walking by me with an unbelievably close appearance to that of the Snape in the movies, I muttered to my friend, "Die in this book, please." (A horrible thought, I know, but my favorite character was Dumbledore, whom he killed.) Anyway, after I read that chapter, my opinion changed really quickly. I thought I'd despise the idea if it actually happened, but now I find I really enjoy the plot twist. It's rather perfect. Otherwise, the battle at Hogwarts was well done; the deaths were shocking to a certain point (yes, I cried when it came to Fred and Dobby's deaths); I thought the deaths of Remus and Tonks were a little too much; I loved how Harry came back and feigned death until the perfect moment; I'm sort of iffy when it comes to the 'King's Cross' chapter, and I really agree with MuggleCast and what they said about it; and the epilogue wasn't what I expected. I was really looking forward to finding out what professions they go into, and what happens to some of the other characters. Even though I'm quite aware that she can't make everyone happy, I wish she would've added those bits into the final chapter. Overall, though, it was fantastic!
I WILL SAY IT AGAIN: HOW CAN YOU PEOPLE CRY FOR SNAPE????!???? HE WAS A GOOD CHARACTER BUT NOT A GOOD MAN!!!!!! SHED SOME TEARS FOR PEOPLE WHO DESERVE THEM!!!!!! RIP FRED DOBBY REMUS TONKS HEDWIG MOODY! I LOVE THE FACT THAT JKR BROUGHT BACK THREE BRIEFLY MENTIONED CHARACTERS TO PLAY LARGE PARTS: GRINDELWALD, GREGOROVITCH, AND GRIPHOOK. WHY AM I WRITING ALL IN CAPS??? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! YAY GRIPHOOK(I LOVE THAT NAME)
It was awesome..except..she didn't tell us about the mystery behind Lily's eyes or the deal with the Giant Squid being the largest Animagus turning into G.G. at the eleventh hour. Poor lil Teddy. Not long after he was born, his parents died. How tragic. *Starts crying..again* By the way, I almost cried when I saw Harry was "dead". I was heartbroken, though I flipped out about George's ear and Fred's..death. *Twitch* (G.G=Godric Gryffindor)
First, an answer. JKR taught French. Victoire is French for Victory. So she's gotta be Bill and Fleur's daughter named after the victory over Voldemort. Next, a question. Is Fred Weasley going to get a Chocolate Frog card? He had enough accomplishments in is young life. He was co-founder of Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes, co-creator of the instant swamp, a sample of which is presumably still roped off at Hogwarts, one of the few to openly defy the Ministry of Magic in the early days of Voldemort's return and a Member of the Order of the Phoenix gloriously fallen in battle. I'd also like to see Snape get a Chocolate Frog card. I know he'd probably hate it as much a Dumbledore loved his own card, but I just think the poor guy needs some recognition. He suffered in silence for so long while doing Dumbledore's bidding and needs to have his name cleared. He WAS really rotten to Harry, however. What a tortured soul! Also, I wonder if Lily Potter's brilliance in Potions was all due to her own talent, or did she have coaching from The Half Blood Prince just as Harry did? It really was just like Harry to name his son after his old nemesis, Severus Snape. The Death Eaters were told to recognize him by his mercy as it was so uniquely characteristic of him. I enjoyed the book very much and would have taken more time over it (I finished Monday morning), but the threat of spoilers made me read faster than I might have liked. Thank you, Ms. Rowling. I think there is potential for a Potter dictionary, annotated editions of each book and who knows what else? I'd love to see all the drawings and scribbles that helped bring the wizarding world to life.
yea i think everyone caught that imissdobby...it was kinda obvious after you read it?
Amazing!!! I was really satisfied about the way Voldemort died. I can't believe Fred died! He was my fav twin!!!! but why was the book only 759 pages???
the book was incredible. I loved the ending..the faceoff between Voldemort and Harry was perfect. I just wish Harry had shouted a few other things like "I know you killed Morfin" or "So how was Grindelwald" or "great place to keep a diadem, a room where current Hogwarts students are living" you know so Harry really provoked him while also revealing just how much he knew about Voldemort and could see into his mind so readily. Snape..poor Snape. I really pity him; absolutly forgive Dumbledore; thank Dobby and Kreacher and the centaurs; love Hermonie and the talented/resourceful witch she came to be; understand the Malfoys; despise Bellatrix; miss Fred, Lupin, Tonks, and Moody; idolize McGonnagal (she was great); praise the hero in Neville; and, most importantly, love JKR for giving us Harry Potter. TO CLARIFY FOR OTHERS: The book is 784 pages, 759 pages of text and the rest includes the blanks at the end, the table of contents, etc. Also the cover (I think) depicts the Great Hall as light floods in through the enchanted ceiling and Harry and Voldemort cast their spells. PS the epilogue was great-an insight that Harry and Ginny's children are living the life Harry always wished to have.
How come people aren't commenting on poor Hedwig?! POOR HEDWIG!!! That was the biggest shocker for me. So innocent and loyal! *SOB*
Harry and Ginny should totally have gotten an end-of-the-book kiss, you're right. But they get married don't they???? I guess we just have to think of that as a lifetime of kisses. :)
okay okay so WHERE did Neville get Godric Gryffindor's sword? did Griphook feel guilty and come back to fight Voldey? or, was what he got also a replica? and the real one was for some reason in Hogwarts? but Ron DID destroy the locket with it....soooooo I'm confused...help would be appreciated would also like to say....I LOVE SNAPE
frigging awesome!!! i really loved it. i think Jo wrote a little differently then all the other books but it was really really good!! I don't see how some people are saying it was weak. I don't think it was weak at all. I just wish Hedwig didn't die and Ginny was in more scenes. Also I wish we learned what James and Lily's job was and who produced magic later in life??
Everyone is asking the same question, who did magic later in life? Why did she say someone would if she's changed her mind? I hope she answers this because I've found that I can answer every other question I've got by re-reading the book and putting one and two together. All I can think to this question is perhaps Filtch or perhaps a more cryptic jump at things Dudley if she considers love to be magic. I don't know! XD
This book was bloody awesome!! I have read hundreds of books of all types and I will say this: I have never found a writer who could write action that good! NEVER!! I love this book, and I am not ashamed to admit: when I finished the entire book, I cried, not because it was great, but because it was the end of one of the best series I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I will be writing a formal review of this book on my page, so I'll let you know when it's posted! -Blue For Juze: Victoire, I believe, is Fleur and Bill's daughter.
i thought the book was brilliant untill the last cahpter, i wish we found out what their jobs were?? and i was hoping it would say that harry stayed in touch with dudley(i know it was a bit idealistic!) i was bawling my eyes out for most if the book. did anyone else find it REALLY sad when dudley told harry he didnt think he was a waste of space?? the death of mad-eye moody was so early it the book, it was such a shock=( the deathly hallows were not what i expected at all. i loved the way the trio lived in the tent and i loved hermione's bag! hermione used the word arse and molly used the word girl, how funny was that!!! i really couldnt beleive fred was killed, that was sooo sad. when percy came back was great. i was so glad snape turned out to be good, i knew he wolud. his memories were so sad, i creid and cried and cried! i loved the last few chapters untill the epilogue, it was way to brief, not what i expected. overall...AMAZING=)
wow i thought the book was great i loved dumbledore's historyu i though that was really intresting and yea whos victorie? also i really liked the ending i dont think it was corny at all!
this book was simply amazing! there is no other way to put it! even though i did find the names of harry's kids to be how should i put it? odd. but it was still overall really great. wish there were more to come but alas there isn't so i'll have to deal with it.
I thought the book was AMAZiNG! It was by far the best book that I have ever read.
I wish Ginny had played a bigger role, what is the significance of her being the seventh child and the first female Weasley in several generations? Book five hinted that she would become very powerful (remember her bat bogey hex) and I thought her resemblance to Lily Potter would mean something as well. I wish she had gotten her one great heroic moment, but it is interesting it went to her mother in the act of defending her.
I loved it! I am still spinning from the ups/downs and turnarounds of some of the twists. I still don't understand how the charm protecting Harry from his mother worked on Voldemort. Isn't he of age? And how did it get bypassed in the end then? Favorite moment: Ron returns!!! I cheered out loud! 2nd favorite moment: Kreacher hits Mundungus with the sauce pan. LOL!!!
I loved it!!! It was amazing, best book ever. I can't wait to read it again. There were some holes I would have liked filled in but you can't cover everything I guess. It was just amazing all around!!
I loved the book, the only thing that really disappointed me was that SHE DIDN'T EXPLAIN ABOUT THE VEIL! That whole thing was so mysterious, and it really annoyed me that we didn't figure out exactly what it was. One thing I was wondering though, after reading the final confrontation between Harry and Voldermort, is how they're going to do it in the movie? While I thought it was handled amazingly, it didn't really have any action like Dumbledore's and Voldermort's fight did. Do you guys think the directors will spice up the last fight in the movie, kind of how they did with the dragon scene in Goblet of Fire?
I really loved this book. I was so suprised how well everything worked together, and how the smallest details made the biggest difference. I was so sad that Hedwig, Dobby, Fred, Tonks, and Lupin died. I really thought the twins were in the clear when George lost an ear. The other deaths weren't that bad for me. I loved Potterwatch, and how they made Kingsley the temporary minister of magic. I also really liked Dudly and Kreatcher in this book, certainly a lot more than I used to. I also liked how Regulus turned out to be good. I always knew Snape was good, and it made me so happy. I loved how Neville destroyed a horcrux and how Ginny and Neville tried to steal the sword. I absolutely LOVED how Molly killed Bellatrix - that was totally awesome. I do have a few questions though. Who did Draco Malfoy marry? What happened to Luna, McGonnagal, the rest of the Weasleys, and the Dursleys? Also, who was the person that managed to do magic later in life? Overall, I was very pleased!
i thought the book was AMAZING!! in the beginning i was kinda wondering where she was going with all of the harry running away from death eaters kinda thing but the end was GREAT! loved it and im so glad about ron and hermione.. finally! =]
