I LOVED the book, second favorite to HBP. I love that there was finally a kiss between Hermione and Ron. I just wish there would have been more of them together. I understant the book isn't really about their love story but who didn't fall in love with their love story......... I also thought (aside from Dobby's death) that Snape's was one of the sadest parts of the book. When Snape asked Harry to look at him as he was dying, it was so he could die looking in to Lily's eyes, the woman he did all this for, the woman he loved. Since Harry had her eyes that is the closest thing he had to her.

it was sure the best one.but i am awful.this is the end. so many years so many hours of reading , surfing , searching , listening and watching have came to this..... its the bitter end, like a hole in my life.i hope it worth what i have iven to it , i hope it was not to end. Congratulations Jo Rowling i owe you so much !

i thought this book was absolutely fantabulous! my favorite by far! i could not put it down and finished it so quickly i immediately started to re-read it...i was hysterical when fred and dobby died...i didnt see dobby coming and i thought the worst case scenario was killing a twin but i knew deep down it was going to happen. i loved dumbledore's past and was read the chapter of snape's memories with my mouth half open. the epic battle was awe-inspiring and i was again, hysterical when harry was walking with his parents, sirius, and lupin to his "death". I also didn't think he was going to be a horcrux but i was very wrong lol. i was SO proud of neville and i laughed out loud when mrs. weasley screamed at bellatrix...i did not expect that at alllll. the epiloge was fine but i agree with the many who wanted to know their professions and those of the supporting characters. overall, it was amazing and i am now re-reading the whole series over again b/c i cannot, and will not, ever get enough of harry potter!

AMAZING!!!!! Epilogue was iffy, but I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by wandless Jul 23rd 2007

Fantastic book!! I liked the epilogue, it was satisfying to read and provided closure. However, Albus Severus? Scorpius? *blanches*. I'm happy with the deaths, but I would've liked to know more about what happened to other characters, like Neville, Draco and his family, Luna and all the Weasleys. We never found out stuff like Harry's parent's jobs or stuff about the Department of Mysteries. The Ford Anglia never made an appearance either. Overall I'm very happy with the book though. Unfortunately, there weren't many surprises as almost all the plots had been theorised by MuggleNet/MuggleCast.

Posted by Unfortunatelymuggle Jul 23rd 2007

oh and in case it was overshadowed by the excitement of Deathly Hallows and people forgot, Daniel Radcliffe turned 18 today!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAN!!!!

Posted by Ellisosee Jul 23rd 2007

Omg!!! The only problem; did Hary die or not? I mean obviously he was alive, but did he die? My friends and I placed bets, and none of us can collect here!!! i loved how the final battle was at hogwarts, and I loved how Neville killed Nagini, though I hoped he would be the one to kill Bellitrix.

Ok. Wow. Seriously. It was so action-packed, and I never really realized before they went on the run just how clever Harry and Ron were... And Hermionie even exceded expectations. The Prince's Tale was so... wow. I cried so hard at Fred, Tonks, and Remus's death. And when Harry just... walked to his death. Especially the scene with the ressurection stone coming out of the stone... My mom came in and thought I had hurt myself xD The epilouge, though, was bitterly dissapointing. I mean, it left so much unanswered! If Jo doesn't answer more questions on her site, I'll be really mad.

This book was amazing. will be lost in the world of magic for days! victoire is definatey bill n fleurs daughter. and what dumbledore would have seen in the mirror was what he really wanted to but he never look coz he feared what we would see (who's cursing spell actually killed his sister out of him, his brother and grindlewald). and prologue was weak indeed. too many deaths too, why did so many main ones have to die?? and why was in not mentioned in the book that harry and voldemort were related as they were both decendents of the peverells brother- voldemort of the one who had the stone hollow and harry from the one who had the cloak. did anyone else realise this?? dont want it to end :'(

Posted by msangiorge Jul 23rd 2007

I have never cried so much to any book. For every death, I cried. But I was also so touched by so many other moments such as when Harry walked through the forest with those he loved, knowing fully what he was facing but still going forward, motivated by love. Everyone had always made note about how much he reminded them of his father, but he was indeed his mother's son. (The eyes are the windows to the soul.) As a thirtysomething mother of two, the epilogue touched me to my very core. As Albus Severus was embarking on his first year at Hogwarts, I couldn't help but reflect on Harry's first year. Whereas Harry only dreamed of a loving family seeing him off, hearing words of wisdom from his father; it was his children's reality. We always want better for our children than we had ourselves. After all the horrors Harry had faced in his youth, it was not necessary to burden his children with that knowledge; they had to ask why everyone was staring. And he could have been anyone with his fame: powerful, influencial. But his greatest peace was having what he had been denied so cruelly, a family. POA had been my favorite up to now...I have a new favorite.

i thought the book was brilliant untill the last cahpter, i wish we found out what their jobs were?? and i was hoping it would say that harry stayed in touch with dudley(i know it was a bit idealistic!) i was bawling my eyes out for most if the book. did anyone else find it REALLY sad when dudley told harry he didnt think he was a waste of space?? the death of mad-eye moody was so early it the book, it was such a shock=( the deathly hallows were not what i expected at all. i loved the way the trio lived in the tent and i loved hermione's bag! hermione used the word arse and molly used the word girl, how funny was that!!! i really couldnt beleive fred was killed, that was sooo sad. when percy came back was great. i was so glad snape turned out to be good, i knew he wolud. his memories were so sad, i creid and cried and cried! i loved the last few chapters untill the epilogue, it was way to brief, not what i expected. overall...AMAZING=)

Posted by shelli628 Jul 23rd 2007

I really liked the book - thought it was AMAZING! I actually liked the epilogue. I think Victorie was most likely Bill & Fleur's child. As far as Teddy goes, he would have been 19 years old - He probably wasn't living with Harry at that age - Plus, Harry was only 17 when Lupin/Tonks died, so he probably was living with Tonks' parents (which is who had him the night of the fight). I'm really glad that Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione got married! :) I think this was probably one of my favorite books, except I'm sad that Dobby, Fred, Lupin, Tonks and Mad-Eye died! :(

Posted by joenathan Jul 23rd 2007

What a great book! Love the ending but was somewhat dissappointed with the epilogue. . . oh well. Snape is the man!!

Posted by deathlyviper Jul 23rd 2007

GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT BOOK!!!!!!! I can't decide if I like this one more than the 4th one or not. Although I do love the ending of the Deathly Hallows and how Harry finally figured out all the clues and LIVED!!!!!!!! I think now after reminiscing over the final battle scenes and Mrs. Weasley "Not my daughter, you b*$#h" that i actually like the Deathly Hallows the best in the series!!!!

Posted by hpotter77 Jul 23rd 2007

hmmm... okay for the most part it was AMAZINGGG! a few q's weren't answered but thats okay. the epilogue wasnt what i hoped for but all the same, AMAZING JOB JKR!

Posted by TheHarryPotterGirl Jul 23rd 2007

I really loved it. maybe it's only me, but I missed the "late bloomer"

Posted by NastyNati Jul 23rd 2007

i am confused about "the person to do magic later in life" - was this something off j.k.'s website?

Posted by Lanky_Schmit Jul 23rd 2007

Loved it, but i'm not sure i can read it again for a while, becasue a) it was so freakin TENSE i thought i was going to explode, and b) i'm actually kinda depressed that the whole thing is over. can i just say thank you to the fandom, you have all increased my love of this series onehundred-fold, and all your speculation and theories have made me consider possibilities i never would've got to on my own. thank you to everyone involved with mugglenet and mugglecast, i visit this site every day and i'm always hanging out to read and listen to the latest things you have to say, and we all appreciate the enormous amount of work you put into this site. and finally thank you to jo, you have enriched my life so much, thank you for inventing this wonderful story and the wonderful characters, i'm sure we all feel that they are a part of us now, and though we will miss their new adventures, they will always be there for us to read again and again, and that is a comfort i don't think i could live without. ps: i grinned ear to ear when hermione and ron finally kissed, i just thought of emma watsons face wen she reads that she is going have to kiss rupert AND dan in the movie (if they keep that bit from the locket destruction in the movie). oh man i can't wait for the movie!

Posted by yuleball12 Jul 23rd 2007

absolutely brillant, i loved it. i cried and laughed. fantastic!!!!

Posted by LissieGirl Jul 23rd 2007

I loved it! I cried from beginning to end, especially when they went to Godric's Hollow.

Posted by bananaboat8816 Jul 23rd 2007

Anyone else think the book was sort of ...oaky? Like, it was a good read, but it didn't blow me away in the sense that I thought it would. Am I the only one?

Posted by Harryfan20 Jul 23rd 2007

LOVED DEATHLY HALLOWS. I LOVE HARRY POTTER! But I am so sad it's over. First of all, I loved how so many characters came back, that they all fought for Hogwarts. I cried quite a few times in it. For me, it solved all the mysteries. And my new favorite character is SNAPE. I love him! Crabbe dies! Just kidding. RIP Hedwig, Moody, Dobby, Fred, Creevy, Snape, Remus, and Tonks. At first I sort of cringed throught the epilogue, but I think I liked it, especially when Harry said Albus Severus.....OHHH! Oh, and fog6555, Harry destryoed all the Horcruxes, and then killed Voldemort. But I loved this book. Harry's wand breaking was unexpected, so many things were unexpected. It was a very intense book. Godric's Hollow was cute, and the way Harry and Hermionie are like brother and sister. And Ron and Herminoie get together! Kreacher turned out sweet as well. I am so glad none of the trio nor Hagrid died! And I also think that Victorie is Fleur and Bill's child. I can't believe it's over! I'm so sad and happy! Harry lives! And definetely one of my favorite parts was Snape and his memory. I LOVE HARRY POTTER!

Posted by Dissident Jul 23rd 2007

I thought it was absolutely amazing, best in the series by far. Would have liked to have found out more about the Dept of mysteries, but the book was brilliant, incredibly emotive, exciting and yeah...just fantastic. So sad it's the last one :(

Posted by sqweezethecheeze Jul 23rd 2007

HE LOOKS LIKE AN OMELETTE xD

Posted by shai_dorsai Jul 23rd 2007

I can already picture the end of the 7th movie, starting from when Hagrid brings Harry out of the woods, through the screaming reaction of his friends, to the now famous "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU B*^#H" to Voldemort turning around to get Mrs. Weasley and Harry casting the protection spell. When that happens, I expect the theater to react much like the crowd in the book. It should be awesome. JKR did an amazing job with this book - to me it's the best one ever. I only wish that I knew more about what happened to them in the future (what did the end up doing with their lives, how did George handle Fred's death, who raised Teddy, etc). But that's a minor annoyance to what was an amazing book.

Posted by Hallows_over_Horcruxes Jul 23rd 2007

epilogue was very bad. everything else great! I had a faint idea snape was a good guy. How was Harry able to get answers from dumbledore even though he was dead? I think we were the ones to have magic later on in life weird but who else could she have ment?

Posted by skittle_little Jul 23rd 2007

o.m.g. crazy! that muggle-born register thing was inda creepy... did neone else think "holocaust" when they read that? cuz i totally got that kind of a mental image... and i totally bawled my eyes out when hedwig died!!! it was so sad!!! i didnt even cry that much for moody, but fred i did, i liked him. its too bad she didnt explain more about george afterwards and stuff and how lupin and tonk's kid was raised. did harry and ginny raise him, or did someone else? and who is cousin victoria? lol, anyway, to sum up: AMAZING!!

Posted by LuckyLittlePixie Jul 23rd 2007

I was very impressed with how far along JKR's writing has come. Definitely more mature than what we encountered in earlier books, especially thinking back to "Sorcerer's Stone". The whole thing was dark and in my opinion most of it was well done and perfectly suited. The long stretches where the frustration the trio feels at their lack of increases were drawn out perfectly to suite the mood. I was anxious with them as I felt their friendship begin to strain. I wasn't sure with this book what would be thrown at us and I was positively fuming when Ron left Harry and Hermione. One of the best moments though was when Ron comes back and says he was given the Deluminator because Dumbledore knew he would leave and Harry says that "He knew you'd want to cone back". Personally, I thought that those parts of the book where they were camping and searching were vivid and moving and some of the most moving in the book when compared to the rushed pace the battle scenes needed. I could savor these sections and the characters and I enjoyed that. One other little moment I enjoyed was the brief interaction between Narcissa and Harry when she tells Voldemort that Harry is dead when he's alive. It ws selfish of her since she only did it so that she could back into Hogwarts to find Draco, but the Malfoy's have gotten so little honest human treatment that the moment of a mother frantic to find her son was touching. Another moment like that when when she and Lucius run through the battle to find Draco and don't even fight. I was disappointed with Snape's death. Or maybe I was disappointed with the back story, which caused me to feel disappointed wit hthe death scene. For such an important character and for how crucial his role ended up being, I didn't think was given enough time to develop. I thought Harry pulling the sword out of the lake was a nice nod to Arthurian legand. I was very surprised but pleased with how Dumbledore's character rounded out.

Posted by padfootsmine Jul 23rd 2007

it was amazing! and totally epic! the deaths were sudden but that's just how it is sometimes. the deaths of Lupin and Tonks broke my heart. even still, it was absolute perfection! i could not have asked for more, and i happened to really like the epilogue!

Posted by SingerCat Jul 23rd 2007

All I have to say is..... I KNEW Snape was on our side!!! Ive known it since OoTP!!! Dont be too hard on JKR about the Epilogue - I heard its been written since a few years before the FIRST book came out and she never changed a thing, so it probably had to do with that.

Posted by clemsntigers13 Jul 23rd 2007

definitely the most awesome book yet and Happy 18th, Daniel!!!!!! love ya!!!

Posted by Gryffinclaw Jul 23rd 2007

RIP The two greatest characters that we took for granted, Dobby and Hedwig, You were truly great!!

Posted by PopIsDead Jul 23rd 2007

DRACO DIDN'T DIE, YESSSSSSS. That was a happy part in the book for me. But everything else...sigh. Happy ending. As always. Besides all the deaths...Poor Fred...Poor, poor Fred...No, more like, Poor George! What's he gonna do without his twin? It'll be like...having water without the wetness...having a lightbulb without electricity...It won't be the 'Weasley TWINS' anymore.....poo. T_T

Posted by Snapeaintsobad Jul 23rd 2007

WOW WOW WOW!!! I was in tears for the last few chapters, I actually couldn't stop crying. Fred dying with a smile on his face, Lupin and Tonks never knowing Teddy, Snape actually being a good guy after all, Harry seeing his p-units again, Dumbledore actually has flaws, all their little kiddies at the end....and of course Dobby and Hedwig was sad too, and Mad-Eye. I love the name Albus Severus, that is just so sweet! I want to name my own kid that...haha, mayybee not! Great ending, but....I wanted to know who the Headmaster was at Hogwarts, what happened to the Dursleys (good ol' Dudley, he wasn't that bad!), where Teddy grew up, what happened to Luna, what Ron Hermione Ginny & Harry were doing for work, who Victore was? I loved it though....now I'm going back and rereading all 7!

Posted by witchmom71 Jul 23rd 2007

WOW!!!!! It was absolutly wonderful. I fully enjoyed it. I read very quickly, I need to read again. As I have children, it isn't as easy to sit for 9 hours.

Posted by loki46818 Jul 23rd 2007

Teddy would indeed be 19 but he was going to see Vic off to school so he was no longer in school himself. I too wish that the end would have had more detail about life after "You-know-who" but maybe that is why Rowlings said Harry's story is over. Filling in the blanks may be a book about the next generation. Despite the blanks I am glad Harry had a happy ending.

Posted by hpfaninmd Jul 23rd 2007

I loved the book. Lots of it I had quessed would happen but still lots of twists. I feel pleased and satisfied with the conclusion AND the epilouge. Their future were just what I would want for them. Loved that Harry's kids did not know about his past (but of course will learn it all soon). He has the family he always wanted, he did not want anymore excitment. I think that the person doing magic later in life was Neville since he had not shown any ability as a very young child. Thanks Jo.

Posted by seekerKV Jul 23rd 2007

and also Hedwig dying was incredibly sad but it was the first casualty and was there to prepare us readers that there would be more significant deaths to come and that losing Hedwig is nothing like losing Fred..but I cried for both anyway. *tear*

Posted by accio_username Jul 23rd 2007

Awww I loved the look at Snape's memories. And the way that as he died, he wanted to be looking into Harry's (Lily's) eyes, that was the best part of the whole book. I knew he had to be good ! I think he was the best character, because he was realistic, like we could see how his life had been shaped by his experiences.... But Lupin, Tonks and Fred.. I think it should have been Percy, he could have like proved his worth at the end by taking an Avada Kedavra for his mum or something. I thought that the book would be full of twists and turns, but it was more simple and that was better, and infinitely more epic.

Posted by lebeaugirl46 Jul 23rd 2007

Did anyone ever consider that the person who learnt magic late in life might be Neville? He was crap at first then really amazing, good enough even to be a teacher? I've thought it was him since book 5...just a possibility. The comment was made in 2000, so it fits somewhat.

Posted by RachelIsAFan Jul 23rd 2007

AMAZING!!! although, my hopes for another book were stopped when i read the last sentence..."All was well." It was definitely an ending...but Harry survived...and Snape was good....again, AMAZING!!!

Posted by Unoulovemalfoy Jul 23rd 2007

The book was GREAT! It was well written and gave many of the answers we were looking for. I cried so badly during the part that Harry used the ressurection stone to bring back his parents and co. BUT THE EPILOGUE WAS TERRIBLE!!!! I got really confused by it and it was not satisfying at all!!!!!!! Also, did I just happen to miss the page or did JK forget to tell us what dudley saw when he got attacked by the dementors. Ghaaaa! I'm so sad it's over now!

Posted by Poluga_najdorf Jul 23rd 2007

I have spent the last 3 days reading, enjoying the deadly hallows. I think I never read a book that slowly, enjoying every moment since I was quite young. The book is amazing, the last 100 pages touched me immensly in a lot of situations I felt the tears coming. The chapter King's Road will certainly come back to me very often. I reread it twice before going on, maybe because I felt like HP, I didn't want to go on ;-) I for one thougt the epilogue was just perfect, 19 years later, life goes on, you can discover a lot by reading through the lines... And I don't want a papparazzi (ritaskeezzi??) look into our heroes life, these few pages were just perfect... Thanks a lot for hundreds of hours spent reading or thinking about the Harry Potter universe, one of my greates reading pleasures ever!!

Posted by longlostphoenix07 Jul 23rd 2007

one thing i wish could've happened was when harry used the resurrection stone i think it would've been great if he'd summoned snape as well and asked lily to forgive him. it's the only thing snape probably ever wanted after calling lily a mudblood and since he'd helped harry, however grudgingly, throughout the series, it would've been fantastic for him to get that final wish. but evidently, some wounds run too deep...

Posted by Vertigo Jul 23rd 2007

First off, thanks to J.K. Rowling for a fantastic series. The last book completed the series in an extraordinary way. A few points ive noticed in the comments though. firstly off, to some of you, how long do you really expect an epilogue to be? for questions unanswered look closer through the book. veil of death, isnt it obvious? at least i think it is, but then again, that might not be correct, as the author knows alone. its a gateway between life and death, and as we've read through the series, to die is a very normal thing to do, everyone dies, and people can take life. but the series clearly states that noone through magical means or other means, can return completely to life, not even by the means of death it self. that explains why people can go through it, and never go back, because it is impossible to do so. i.o.w a one way ticket... true in life, true with the veil. i suppose they researched a way to grasp beyond the boundries of life and as all before them, failed. or a refound artifact from older days whos creators tried the same, and failed, creating yet another one way ticket, i just wonder if anyone had the guts to peer through *lol* as for what everyone did afterwards, well its kind of a long story aint it? to fit behind all the rest? so many characters. i thought dumbledore had left a bottle of thoughts for harry, concerning snape, and what lay in store at the end of the road. but it wasn't to far from the truth was it =) if people want to ruin for themselves what is a astonishingly great piece of work over minor details of what happened to the people after, who person did magic late in life, whats veil, she promised, what about the snitch etc etc be my guest, i for one is more than satisfied beyond any meassure i could have imagined all those years back when i first read harry potter and the philosophers stone.

Posted by illuminatuzz Jul 23rd 2007

i was cursing the book evertime i started a chapter and said sorry to JK when i finished the chapter and so on.....the names of the chapters disapointed me when i first looked at them....and as for the last chapter, we all wanted to know what was gonna happen and we all wanted to read as well and im sure keeping in mind that its JK we'r dealing with...theres a lot more to it in the last chapter...19 years later....you wait!!!

Posted by irishbabex3 Jul 23rd 2007

I know that a lot of people hated the epilogue and I can definitely see why but I feel that it was as good as any ending because, if you think about it, what else could J.K do? She needed to please the Hermione/Ron shippers and the Harry/Ginny shippers and I believe she worked it pretty well. She already had the big finale with Voldemort earlier and even though it wasn't very lengthy it was basically what was needed in the classic good vs. evil story. Also, wouldn't it make sense that the person who was supposed to do magic later in life was Petunia? I mean it all fits. She became so against it though that she just wouldn't accept it even if it did come to her. Victoire was obviously Bill and Fleur's daughter because the name is French. I read it all in like 19 hours so I probably missed a lot so I will be reading it again. I really am quite disturbed about the creature at King's Cross though...I mean what the heck?! I might get nightmare's just thinking about it! I need to know what that thing was... Any way! Molly! tut tut! foul language? that was hilarious, i was seriously laughing for 10 minutes. Poor Snape...his life REALLY sucked. I mean he couldn't get the girl his family sucked. He was totally picked on at school and then his best friend didn't want to be friends with him any more. then he had to act as a double agent for the rest of his flippin' life! I would HATE to be him. ugh. WHY?! WHY?! WHY FRED WHY?!?! no....i'm going into quickly escalating depression now...wahh!
