I loved the book, although now my liscence plate needs to have RIP over the "F" for fred............ Was Umbridge so evil because she was wearing the Slytherin locket/horcrux????
MetRupertGrint ---- you guys werent the only ripped off ones. Here in Australia it was ment to be abou 700 pages but it ended up being 659, i got soooooo pissed off!!!! But someone said before, thatt they sobbed during dobby's death, I CRIED LIKE NO TOMORROW. An also at one point i thought Ron or Hermione would die anytime soon, especially when Bellatrix was doing the cruciatous curse on Hermione. OMG I HAVE NVER CRIED SOOOOOOOO MUCH IN MY LIFE!!!
I really love this book. It is my favorite. The batle seen was simply amazing. No other word for it. When Harry was walking to his death it about killed me, I was crying like a baby. I am soo glad I never read any spoilers, because then I could never have had such emotion from it.
****SPOILERS*********** Okay what happened to us finding out about what Dudley saw when the Dementors attacked him in OOTP? What happened to the non-magical folk using magic? So many questions! And Fred! WHY FRED? and Lupin and Tonks- Teddy is just like Harry! Orphaned. All the maurders finally dead! So sad!! I was overall happy with the book, Ron and Hermione FINALLY getting togther (before the epilouge obviously ;)Harry and Ginny getting to be together. Harry NOT dying was such a relief! I almost couldn't read the dern thing because I couldn't STAND to think that Harry/Ron/Hermione might not make it! And the Epilouge was sooo cute and sad becase it was their kids and that just made it all final that this was the last book. THREE CHEERS TO JO! Everyone around the world be as passionate about something in life like we are with our Harry Potter!! LONG LIVE HP!
complete diappointment. poorly written, poorly plotted, wasn't at all emotionally moving, so many plotholes, so many easy copouts ("accio books on horcruxes", anyone??), inconsistancies, implausibilities, and characters acting or saying things out of character. it read like a bad fanfiction. and wtf is up with the epilogue? she'd been hiding THAT for 15+ years? lamest. ever. i love the harry potter world so much and it pains me that she ended harry's story on such a lame note. well, the joke's on us, JK. i hope you're happy, laughing at us, while sitting on your arse in your castle with the billions you've cheated out of people around the world. i guess i can always look forward to the AS/S fanfics...
OMG I predicted the whole Snape/Dumbledore thing and got it right!!! And don't be disappointed with the epilogue... it was brilliant!!!
Can anyone answer about who does magic later in life?? i think most of us are wondering about that.
I personally loved the book, every character throughout the series seemed to be wrapped up. My favorite part of the book was when Harry returned to Hogwarts, i got goosebumps when i read that. The only real complaint i have was that the book was dated, i like to think that when im reading the stories that they are happening as i read. I dont like thinking that these events took place already. I just didnt see it as necessary and the 1981 didnt need to be included on the Potter's grave stones.
i am i must admit a little disappointed. it was an excellent book and maybe my favorite of the serious...but there was alot of unanswered stuff....also i was very intrigued by ginny and harrys relationship and i thought that rowling said ginny would play a big role in the fall of voldemort and she would display great power...well you dont really see anything from her...and the end kind of excludes her as well. mad-eye isnt with harry after the resurection stone and tonks either...it almost seemed a little rushed. i think she could have extended the end a little longer to go into more detail....half the book goes without 1 horcrux being destroyed...why cant we have a little more detail on the biggest climax of the whole series. the final battle..all in all it was entertaining and greatly satisfying..except for that end...epilogue was fun to read. but could have been better...a little confusing at first too. what about luna and all the other people you like....it felt like she left me hanging. but loved it
I think that this was the best book by far. I loved the pace of it. I admit I had expected that Harry and friends would delve right into the horcrux hunt with a purpose.. but the way JK handled it was so much more realistic. Of course 17 year olds would not really know where to look or how to begin. The way she clued them in was brilliant. I also liked the epilogue. I've seen many reviews claiming it was cheesy. I thought it was touching and I wonder this: was this the last chapter that she had written long ago? If that's the case, it would make sense that it had a bit of a different tone that the last few books. It was like going back in JK's mind a decade ago :) The emotion, the secrets revealed, the battle...everything was just amazing! Truly an awesome conclusion to the series.
SPOILER FREE the book was fabulous, it was truely a spectacular end to the series. with so many plot twists, secrets revealed, multiple deaths, and jaw dropping moments, this book is by far the best of the series, at least in my opinion. now as a caution i wouldnt let anyone under 12 read it, for there is violence, there is some hot moments between the charecters, i mean not really bad but enough for some uncomfortable questions ;) and the deaths are a little brutal, and a lil torture and go along way with a child who has yet to understand the principle. but on a scare from 1-10 i rate it a 20. so i implore you enjoy this wonderful masterpiece, and i would like to personally thank J.K.Rowling for this gift that she has given the world.
SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER ME THIS: Who developed magic late in life? What scene is taking place in the US cover? Because I can't tell.
I thought that it would have been much more fitting had Teddy Lupin lost his entire family to Voldemort as well. Then Harry could have mirrored his relationship with Sirius as Godfather/Godchild, and it would have brought the tragedy in full circle, but also almost corrected the cycle. Ginny and Harry's marriage was foreseen, but it would have been deeper i think had they taken Teddy in as a surrogate child. The whole "Albus Severus" thing was really lame.... in my mind i was just hearing "wah wahhhh" Also, it was cheesy how all the new children were named after already made characters and that made it confusing. For example, they said that Albus Severus had "Lily's Eyes" speaking of Harry's mother of course, but he also had another daughter who's name was Lily also.... I thought it was lame.
I absolutely bawled while reading! Hedwig, Mad-Eye, Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Colin, and about fifty others! Blood bath! And what happened to those 25 pages??? Even in the little paper we got in the books at Barnes and Noble it said "You've read 3000 some pages, only 784 more!" It was only 759...
Not sure if anyone replied to polkadotted, but I'm assuming Teddy lived with his grandmother, Tonks' Mom...
When Harry thought Dumbledore had not cared for him and just planned his death- THAT WAS SO HEARTBREAKING! And even Snape couldnt believe it! That's why he killed Dumbledore with this hatred etched on his face... I realised how LONELY this man has been, not able to tell he was still good, NO ONE TO TRUST!!!! No opportunity to laugh. I respect him now. JO, PLEASE WRITE SEVERUS'S MEMOIRS NAD PUBLISH THEM IN AN APPENDIX TO THE SERIES!
Okay, Mugglenet replaced "B-I-TCH" with girl. Not fair, JK Rowling says it :( Also, Tonks and Lupin's deaths were not unnecessary...they made a parallel since Harry was named the godfather, to Harry's parents' deaths with Sirius as the godfather. But the deaths were very sudden and Harry didn't seem all too emotional about them...
I absolutely LOVED it. I think its the best in the series...but there are so many unanswered questions. Its frusating! And why did Fred have to die? RIP Fred, Lupin, Tonks, and Dobby! JKR really could have answered a lot of questions in the epilogue...but she didnt. now we will probably never know. :( I loved it all the same...but its awful to to know that this is the final book. I would have liked to know more about Teddy. And what happens in the year atfer Harry defeats Voldy. I didnt catch who supposedly got magic late in life......Overall, it was a fantastic book, yet somewhat maddening.
Overall, I liked it, but there were some things I wished had been different. While I was reading, I kept having the feeling that I was reading a first draft; there were a lot of imbalances and a few things she left out. Personally, I think she should have taken the extra year to write it, but that's just me. And the best line? "He spat at you."
It is my third favorite book in the series after PoA and GoF. I thought it was an amazing book. The concept of the Deathly Hallows, the importance of the wand choosing the wizard, the snitch (I open at the close), the horrible effect of the locket Horcrux on Ron, the Elder wand, everything was incredible. The only big thing I was disappointed with was the epilogue. I thought it was just too happily ever after and I thought Jo could have done better, but I can deal with it. Of course I'm so glad they all lived to have children and were very happy, but to me I wanted the book to kinda end on a more serious note. But, whatever. I cried my heart out when Hedwig and Dobby died. and when Fred died, I shut the book andcried for five minutes before continuing to read. FRED I LOVE YOU! Amazing, fantastic book. Thank you Jo.
I really liked it, I may have even liked it mroe that POA! I really sound dumb when I say this.. but where is Harry at on the cover? I don't remember an arena like place on the cover... My favorite part probobly is the beginning of the book, when everyone becomes Harry and they fly ... I've can't wait to see that part in the movie.
best book of the series by far the plot was awesome and the way she tied in the deathly hallows and the horcruxes was spectacular epilogue was kinda cheesy but overall probably the best book ive ever read
Excellent book! I loved it! I thoguht it was unnecessary to kill off Fred at the end of the book. How come? Grrr. He's my favorite character and I think he should get more mentions in MuggleCast or something!
"Holey" cow, I loved the book. I agree with what people have been saying about the epilouge... it doesn't really tell much. It is pretty vague in my opinion, to book still left me asking questions.
DH was the best book in the series by far :D I loved every word of it ... heck .... HARRY HUMILIATED VOLDEMORT !!!!!
It was amazing, so many things happening at once plus the speed I read it at just made everything a whirlwind of action and emotion. The ending and the epilogue was perfect, though maybe more info about what happened to everyone was needed. But all in all, once I finished reading this final book my heart sank, I realized this was the last one ever released. But I am happy everything worked out like it should have, and of course there is plenty of room for some fanfiction! :D
im lucky i was 16 in line and only got 1 death spoiled it was awesome i even got onstage for an event the great snape debate my side won i even dressed up took a few breaks but finished first day love mugglecast see yah
best book of the series! a few unanswered questions. epilouge kinda disapointing :[ but the battle at hogwarts made up for everything! :]]
good book :] loved how everything just fell together in the end! and ron and hermiones kiss was cute :], but the ending really disappointed me! i wanted to know everyones feelings after the war, and how like mrs weasley dealt with freds death and what happened to luna! and just a bunch of every stuff. i think the epiloge could have been way longer. &i still wanted to know about the veil! that wasnt really cleared up for me :/
I can't believe Fred died :( He was the one person I didn't want to die.
HELLO????? Whatever happened with the veil or the Department of Mysteries???? Jo put such a focus on them in OOTP!!!!! Plus, Jo promised us loads of things that she never even explained, like what Dudley saw when he was with the Dementors or what James and Lily did to "thrice defy Voldemort." Overall it was an excellent book, but the epilogue could've been a lot better and there were MANY loose ends.
it was wicked awesome. i loved every minute of it. there were a lot of unanswered questions that i thought would be answered like about the veil? and i thought there would be more about the significance of lily's eyes and petunia.
Cried and cried and cried when Dumbledore said Harry was a Horcrux. As soon as I read that line, my insides went cold with shock. Read it again and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Burst into tears and did not stop crying until Harry was with Dumbledore at King's Cross. I had to put down the book several times to calm myself down so I could actually read. I was always one of those people who scoffed at the "Harry is a horcrux" theory and could not believe it was true. I was overwhelmed with happiness, though, when he came back to life. Had trouble believing it at first since I didn't want to be crushed again if he DID end up dying, but it was all ok. Epilouge was great, a little more closure would've been nice, but Jo provided enough for me to be satisfied. RIP Lupin/Tonks/Dobby/Hedwig/ Mad-Eye/Fred(WTF)/even Snape
Wow. I feel like a part of my life is missing now that it's over. However, I like how everybody was right. Harry died, but he lived. Snape was bad, but he was good. I just sat and cried at the end because of how much i was going to miss it. But man, did Harry go out with a bang!!!
Wow, the comment box is filling up fast! Anyway, I loved it! Though I was really disapointed with the epiloge. What happened to George! I was a big enough blow to the heart when she killed Fred, but when she diddn't even elaborate on george, well i was throurally (sp?) disapionted! but all in all i thought the book started out great and was an overall excellent book! I also love the fact the she made the whole "will harry live" debate so that every one was right. ( harry lived but he still had to die to kill voldemort) BRILLANT J.K. !!! (a little farfeatched but) BRILLANT!!!!!!
Amazing, incredible, emotional and downright fantastic!! I only with the adjectives came as easily to me as they do to JKR. I think I used at least a half a box of kleenex while reading. Dobby dying was soooo sad! I did not expect that at all.
No one has commented on Kreacher! How great was that! I love how he came out with the House Elves at the end, crying 'For Regulus!' So great.
omg! am i the only one who went through a withdrawl and was extremely speechless? seriously at the end from fred on i couldn't stop crying... i can't believe it, ending the series is like losing a friend... ~Tricia
I just want to say phah to all those people in the comments before the book came out just putting 'harry is going to die' I mean JK would never of done it. I mean properly cause Harry did kinda die but not. Any way I loved the book I never wanted it to end. I know JK will probally not do aother Harry book but shall we all just beg anyway what do you think? PLEASE JO WE BEG YOU!
I though that overall, this was the best book of the series. I read it almost three times all the way through just on Saturday! I especially loved the battle at Hogwarts and Snape's and Dumbledore's stories, but I thought that the epilogue left much to be desired. I also didn't like how J.K. Rowling didn't answer several of the questions that she said she would. For instance, we never found the Potter's occupations or the character that did magic late in life.
P.S. it's funny, MuggleNet, that you changed Bitc you know what to girl! sorry I wrote that, it's just such a Cool part in the book! You rule, MuggleNet.Thanks
the book was fantastic, but the epilogue sounded like a fanfic, i thought. but all in all it was definitely one of the better books :]
Okay i LOVED the book totally loved it.. and it hit me hard when I got to the Epilogue there I realized it was the end of Harry Potter Books! and started crying!! :( Anyways the epilogue i think could have been more detailed about Harry + Ginny she could have told a little bit more of what happened (altough deep down inside we knoe) and also the Ron + Hermione but LOVED the book was amazing altough I have a Question... If it was 19 yrs latter.. HOW come does Teddy end's up in The Hogwarts Express??? He's 19 yrs old... (weird) there were other incoincistencies but i guess it's nothing that we cannot guess.. (i guess)
DEATHLY HALLOWS WAS INCREDIBLE!!! I laughed, I cried... I lost a significant amount of sleep... and now I'm horribly sad, because there won't be another one! I think the worst part was when Dobby died. I was heartbroken! All in all, I'm elated to finally know what happened.
Although I believe it is an excellent novel over all. I thought parts of it were slow and that it contained too much information.
I'm really sad now. Harry Potter has been with me since I was 6. My mom read it to me before it was very popular. I thought the book was amazing. I cried when Fred died. Him and George were my favorite characters. My favorite part was when Snapes name was redeemed and how Harry said that his son was named after two headmasters and one of them was the bravest person he knew and he was talking about Snape. AMAZING!!!!!!!!
I loved it! Poor Hedwig though! And I liked that the sword revealed itself to Neville, shows the link with the prophecy and how easily Neville could have had Harry's fate. It is enchanted to reveal itself to a true Gryffindor, so the fact that Griphook had it is irrelevant. I could write for ages about this book! Well done J.K. Rowling for giving the series a fitting end! xx
first off i thought it was the best book in the series and secondly if teddy tonks was born during the war and the epilogue took place nineteen years later, then wouldn't he be nineteen years old and be done with Hogwarts. Why was he on the Hogwarts Express? Wasn't the book supposed to be 784 pages??
Very disappointing. The book answered very few of the questions that the author promised to tie up in this book. The plot was inconsistent and had some huge holes. The epilogue was also amazingly disappointing. Did anyone notice Lupin and Tonk's son would have been 19 at the end, and therefore too old to still be at Hogwarts? Not my favorite book by any means, it was obviously rushed and her editors must have been sleeping..
Absolutely amazing! I bought the book at midnight at Borders, and read the whole thing! I couldn't put it down. I loved the twists and turns. And that's what the Deathly Hallows were!? Who new? I cried my eyes out! My favorite book without a doubt. Loved it. Anyone else feel an odd sense of loss? I do. =(.
