I was a bit dissapointed, but overall i loved it! It was horrible while i was reading it because it was so scary and so many people died!! I didn't mind the epilogue too much. just wish we learned more about the other characters! And she left so much unanswered! What were lily and james's occupations? Overall an excellent potter book!
Merope did magic later in life. It was book 6, not book 7, and she was certainly in "desperate" circumstances. Now, I will WHOLEHEARTEDLY defend the epilogue. My opinion is that there are a lot of people who are misguided about what it di and didn't do, and here's why: The epilogue was all the detail we could possibly need. Spending pages and pages and pages explaining everything that happened to every character and to the wizarding world- THAT is what would have taken us into the realm of fan-fiction. The story did end in the Headmaster's office- Harry had had enough trouble for alifetime. And that's what the epilogue was about. It makes the simple observation that life has gone on, that the wizarding world has carried on, and that the same little conflicts and worries pop up for an entirely new set of people embarking on an unfamiliar journey. What was Harry thinking about the first time he went to Hogwarts? Certainly not You-Know-Who, or the fate of wizardkind. He was fretting about whether he'd fit in, and about what House he'd get Sorted into. How to avoid Malfoy. Just like his son, and Ron's daughter. And, as Harry was in the end (as evidenced by the short scene on the platform, which was really as normal a send-off as one could possibly imagine), he knew little Albus would be all right, whatever came his way. Had Harry died, I'd like to think that the scene at Platform 9 3/4 would have been the same, just without him- life going on, and another term starting at Hogwarts. And to me the epilogue leaving the door open for so much speculation and discussion is JKR's way of giving us, the fans, the same chance to carry on that she gave Harry. What have we been doing for the last 10 years? Arguing and speculating about what happens next. Trying to fill the blanks. That's what has connected us as fans, and now the connection will continue. Not only will we argue until we're blue in the face about the maddeningly speculative ending she left us (and whether i...
THE BEST BOOK IN THE SERIES!!!!! It was awesome!!! Although their were a few things that were left untold, I still thought it was great! The worst part for me was the epilogue; I didn't like it because it was far too short. I also didn't like the fact that the American edition only had 759 pages and it was really supposed to have 784 and that could only mean they edited more after the official page count was determined. I was really disappointed when I reached the end and I really thought there would be more. I guess I should have paid more attention to the table of contents where it says illustrations page 761...lol....but all in all the book was absolutely fabulous!!
I loved the book. Its my favorite in the series. But I really thought the epilogue should have been longer. Who performed magic later on in life?? I didn't catch that. Maybe I didn't read it right. I'm gonan read the book again in a week so I can see if I missed anything but yeah amazing book.
Victorie was Ron and Hermione's daughter - after Viktor Krum? Just my best guess. I think this was a great book although I would have liked to know what happend with Luna and George and all the others...
I loved it, the tone, the writing, everything... but i do still have a lot of questions.... and the epilogue should have been longer.... poor Fred....
I liked the whole book! It's my favorite by far. I liked the epilogue, it was cute, i wish it contained more info but what can you do. I Loved this book!!!
I really liked how she tied everything like the put-outer... and doesnt everyone realize harry was the master of death...anyway yeah very action-y but nevertheless great
HONESTLY IN MY OPINION THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN! SURE THE EPILOGUE COULD'VE HAVE BEEN A LITTLE BETTER AND LONGER, BUT OTHERWISE I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK! I AM GOING TO MISS SNAPE, LUPIN, TONKS, AND FRED...BUT MOSTLY SNAPE! I AM IN MOURNING BUT JK ROWLING HAS MADE THIS BOOK A MUST-READ! I AM READING IT AGAIN TODAY. ONCE AGAIN, IN THE HISTORY OF BOOKS, THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN! ***** 5 STARS OUT OF 4!
It was good, but the epilogue (SP????) was horrible in my eyes and some questions went unanswered. I hope that she writes some books about James', Al's, and Lily's time at hogwarts. It would be a bad idea to end it there. WHY DID FRED HAVE TO DIEEE????? And both of Teddy's parents dead???? Lupin was my fave person. I was like crying when I found out that Lupijn and Tonks died. I don't want it to end like this!!!! And nameing Al Albus Serveus Potter was an awsome idea.
Well the book was Wonderful!! JK did her self justice. I loved the fact that Deaths in the book came as a real shock when they Happened, Like they do in real life! I was most sad over the Death of Dobby! He was a free elf that chose to serve Harry with his last breath! I loved this book as I love them all! I do agree with most of you and the Epilogue was really weak in detail. I was sooo Happy to learn that my Fav Wizzard at Hogwarts was good All along! RIP Severus Snape! THanks JK for the world in witch kids and Adults alike can forget there troubles and lose them selfs in! I hope you all loved the book as well!
In a word. Amazing. It kept me up for 26 hours. 21 of which were spent reading. Harry Potter will never die..
WOW Loved it! Oh gosh, definitely the BEST in the whole series! I loved the development, and hated the epilogued (still can't get the whole Albus Severus...caused trauma) LOL and besides, I wanted to see more about the department in mysteries and the veil cuz the series ended and I'm still in-Sirius-Denial! and Fred!! WHY?!?! Was that really necessary?! The whole darkness of the book is just amazing, cuz I couldnt help but think of the WWII they forced the Jews to register...parallel to the muggleborns registratios, and all those people hiding because the Minisitry followed them, the political themes were pretty strong, the whole Potterwatch thing was hillarious. So JK Rowling did it...ended with the BEST book in the series! I almost broke down when I was reading the scene about Harry walking to the forest...when he let Ginny behind! It was like NO! And the whole "NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU ***!" LOL!! I couldnt help but laugh...Molly Weasley became my hero!! But then GO GO Neville! chopping the Nagini!! hahaha Loved Neville too! :o The kisses where...for a corny girl like me...GREAT! Ron and Hermione FINALLY!! and Harry and Ginny just the way I expected... I didnt think I would say this...but I feel so SORRY for Snape, living your whole life loving a woman who only loved you as a friend, and then fell for the guy you hated, gosh...that's too much...and then you find out she's dead because of you! No no...that truly is awful! Imagine seeing the eyes of the woman you loved in a boy who is the spitting image of the man that you hated. But guess he got his prize with the whole Albus Severus - THINGY (I still hate the epilogue) Well...despite the epliogue...I woudl certainly make a bow for JK my favourite writer EVER and I think I'm gonna re read it...LOL!! Thank god Harry is alive! and has his happy family :P
I don't think there is a single word that I can use to describe it. But I know if I don't try to convey my reaction in one word, then I'd have to do it in well over a thousand words and I'm sure no one would appreciate that. So my one word would be... unreal.
It was very different from the previous books, but I loved it. It was still Harry Potter. I'd say the deathly hallows is the best of them all. I LOVED the ending. Thank you JK Rowling!
"Posted by violetmarie17 10 minutes ago TED TONKS was the one to do magic late in life. he was a muggle remember? then he told harry he had healed his leg, foot, arm--whatever." OH! I get it. I don't know how I missed that and I have read it twice! LOL Anyway, I loved the camping and such, it really showed the trio's relationships and what life is like with Voldemort in control. Well done, JKR!
* EPILOGUE: I agree. BIG disappointment. HUGE! * GINNY: JKR almost hid her under a basket. Harry's fleeting thoughts of her were not enough for such an important character. Another big disappointment. * DEATHS: Sad, but necessary. * What happened to LUNA??? What a horrible hole in the story. * R/H: At least they kissed a couple of times, right? Not much in action. You'd think that such a monumental and long-awaited event would actually be more EXCITING. Here, too, JKR disappointed me. Everything else was okay-ish...
The part about Dudley freaked me out more than anything else in the book. Anyone else have that reaction?
I thought it was a great book, other than a few things she left out, could have explained, and the epilogue was dissappointing. I for one, expected to know what happened to everyone, not just the main characters. The kid's names were cheezy, James I expected, but Lily and Albus Severus? And Hugo?! That was pathetic, in every meaning of the word. Fred's death was completely unnecessary, I cried for an hour. :( :(
I'm s-l-o-w-l-y coming to terms with the epilogue. A major theme of the books, after all, was that the people we love and lose are never truly gone--always just "beyond the veil"--so I suppose it was a nice thing to see some of those characters, whom we thought we'd lost forever, making a final appearance... But perhaps I'm just trying to convince myself that JKR couldn't possibly have allowed the series to end on a lame note. Only thing is, I DESPERATELY wanted to hear that Harry becomes Defense Against the Dark Arts prof at Hogwarts! And all that we really glean from the epilogue about his, Ron's, and Hermione's futures is that they definitely don't end up at Hogwarts. It would have made SO much sense. Voldemort jinxed the job, remember, but with him gone, Harry could have held it as long as he liked! And Harry and Voldemort are so similar already, it would have emphasized that even more; also, Harry and the Ministry have a terrible history, I cannot imagine him ever wanting to work for it. The highlight of Harry's Hogwarts experience was the D.A., and the events in the seventh book prove just how important it was that he organized that. When Harry mentions, on his way into the Forest to die, that Hogwarts is the only place he's ever felt at home, I thought, "Oh, excellent, I'm going to be right, he has to come back and teach there!" It was my signature prediction, the one I stood by for ages, but I know for SURE I wasn't right because of the epilogue. Bummer. One thing I really loved about this book was the camping. When reading that section, around 6 in the morning after a full night of reading, I nearly drifted off--but looking back on it, it's pretty amazing. She took camping, this fun adventurous thing that you could imagine young people doing together and having a grand old time, and turned it on its head into a terrifying situation, with Harry, Ron, and Hermione in effect doomed to be camping for months. One thing that puzzled me: I don't see how t...
It was such an emotional rollercoaster...I will truly mis all the characters, dead and alive....FRED! AUGH! *sigh*...
Amazing! Spectacular!! So different... yet so satisfying. I cried like a baby when I thought Harry was going to die. I guess he kind of did in way?? There were times when I was laughing and crying at the same time.
I am still trying to process the book. I found that it was especially hard to read due to the anxiety of what was to happen and because this would be the last time I would venture into the unknown with Harry and friends. There were moments that made me just sit back and ask a big "WHY? What was the point of that?" Going back and re-reading it has given me a little more perspective, but it is still hard to feel justified in my opinions because it is, after all, still speculation. J.K. Rowling did leave me with more questions and more wants, which in itself can be speculated upon; (i.e. writing a summary book for her favorite chairities.) I want to explain further with details but I do not wish to ruin the story for others this early in it's release, however, I will say this: J.K Rowling has again impressed me with her innate ability to make me sit back with awe...just pay close attention to chapter 8 because it explains a monumental moment in chapter 36 which had me somewhat perplexed at first.
I agree that it was Ted Tonks who did magic... makes sense to me. The first time i heard them call her "dora" i was like who's that??? I knew she would become pregnant.... no brainer there... ummm , i loved that Harry is a godfather!!!! I really really did love that!!! And what about that scene in the room of requirement where they're all being really serious and hten Percy comes in and he's like " I WAS A FOOL!!!!!" I was cracking up for like 2 minutes and everyone was staring at me!!!! lol. I think the most disappointing thing about the book is that Sirius's death wasn't explained well enough... the only reason i can think for it is because she wanted all of the Mauraders to die.... you know? Cause they all did. that's how i knew Lupin would die l ike after Wormtail died it was realy obvious! I'm really content with the book over all though because it made me feel satisfied in the end. " All was well " That just sums it up. I don't really think it will be possible for more stories about Harry to be written but there could be other stories about that world... and i think that would be cool. I'm really going to miss Harry though. That's the hardest part. Saying good bye to those characters we've known FOREVER it feels like. We've grown up on them and now their stories are over... but that's why i'm glad the epilogue didn't explain everything, it leaves you to wonder what happened which is one of the best things that couldn't happen- so don't complain about it really!!!! She knew we would want more and so she's left it to us to make it up!!!! anways....
i WANTED MRE> True, also wasnt Snape under the invisibility cloak the night Harry's parents die. Is it just me or was that not seen in the pensieve??? cos i thougth we'd see it. I was wondering the same thing.. like "What did Dudley see as the dementors?". Ohhh but it was sooo good, i cant say nothing bad abou tit!! Well guys im off. I have to go to school, have fun discussing it!! bye bye
it was AMAZING. fantastic. terrific. fabulous. Jo did great, but the epilogue was quite dissapointing... it seemed like she answered all of our previous questions, but with the deaths of those certain characters opened up quote a few more, like is Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes gonna open again? Where did Teddy go to live? Why not with Harry? And who became minister of magic (permanently)? There are so many more than that, so I was really sad that Jo didn't do better with the epilogue, but the book was excellent =]
i loved it! it was so sad though. I cried so many times. When Hedwig died, when Dobby died, when Fred died, when Lupin died, when Harry brought his parents and Sirius and Lupin back, and after I had finished it. the only thing I didnt really like was that it was kind of predictable. I had guessed about who had the Elder wand, where Ravenclaw's diadem was, and of course, that RAB was Regulus Black. I also didnt like the epilogue. I mean, Albus Severus Potter? and I wish she would have included more of the characters in the epilogue other than that, I really loved it :)
Great! But yeah JK left some stuff out that i was wanting to Know! Epilouge was horrible!
hahaha my friends and I always joked how there would be like "harry in heaven" since he died from voldemort... it's weird how it almost half came true.
I thought it was amazing and wonderful and I'm so glad I got interested in the HP books and lived through this experience. I wish there was a way to tell JKR thank you because that is what I feel the most right now. Someday, if I have kids, I can't wait to share the HP world with them. THANK YOU JKR!!
I like how she left things unanswered so we have something as fans to look forword to. Whether it comes in the shape of mugglenet/TLC interviews, a lexicon type book, or a q&a on her webiste. I thought it was a great book. It weighes very heavy on my heart still and really is a gut renching/tear jerking story. "Of Course it is happenings inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real" -Dumbledore
just a few things... 1. i was disappointed she didnt put Luna into the epilogue. i wanted to know what happened to her. 2. what was dudley's worst memory?!?! 3. who was it that displayed magic at a later time in life?? was it ron with the parseltongue? 4. it was a great book. i really want to know what the other options for the title were. and i want to know who else she killed off and who got a reprieve. all was well.
I thought it was absolutely amazing! One really big thing I didnt like was the epilogue. It was too short with not enough details. And the names were horrible! Hugo? Scorpuis? Albus Severus? I have no clue... I also thought that some parts were too slow. When the trio were hiding out and such. Overall, I loved the book despite the twenty something deaths and all the crying I did. Harry got the finally got the happy, normal life he deserved with a lovely family.
Overall I enjoyed the book. However, the midle was quite boring; nothing really happened. I thought it was strange that so much of the fanfiction that has been written was right on track, like someone else said, JK just has smart readers. When he was walking to his death, I was sobbing, it was so sad. "Does dieing hurt?" That made me bawl. I jumped for joy when Ron and Hermione kissed. It was so cute, especially when Harry was like "Oi! Can't you hold it in?" OOTP is still my favorite, and then POA...maybe DH is after that....
i thought it was amazing. JKR could have explained more and added more to the final chapter and the epilogue, but overall it was amaznig. the harry/ginny was amazing. the RON/HERMIONE WAS AMAZING! the deaths were unnessesary, but it's war and people die. i cannot WAIT to see this turned into a movie; it'll be so interesting.
I thought the book was well done. The epilogue needed more detail. What about other characters and what about their professions? How did they really end up? The happy/love ending was cute but still, I felt there were still questions that needed to be answered. The battle parts were really great. I love how Harry talked Voldemort down, calling him Tom and insulting his intelligence. I loved the fact Molly kills Bella. She (Molly) has the best line in the book, "NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU B****!" That was just lovely. Overall I feel JO did a great job. I cannot wait to see this on the big screen.
My favorite part was how Harry grew during it. He had doubts about Dumbledore leading to doubts about the quest for horcruxes. His falling out with Ron. Becoming obsessed witht the hallows. Then he losing hope. But then the real the part that really set Harry in the right direction was Dobby's death. This part was done very well. It kind of slapped Harry out of it and led him to the very important choice of continuing to chase the horcrux rather than the hallows. It was almost as if he became like Albus towards the end, only stronger for reasons Dumbledore says. Snape's story was also great. I never thought I'd feel so terrible for him.
well, there was one thing I was really curious about finding out and it never got answered: What did Dudley remember that was so horrible when he was with the dementors in the 5th book? Apart from that, the epilogue wasn't super great cause the hole time they were talking about Harry, Ginny, Hermione and Ron older and all, I still could only imagine them as teens so it was a bit weird...As for their kids, all named after dead people was a bit much I found...maybe one kid with a name to remember but all three of them I found to be strange a bit...kept imagining Harry's father in small, Albus in small and Lily as well so it was just weird...at least Ron and Hermione were a bit more original with Rosa (or Rose, can't quite remember). The entire story itself was really amazing but it almost didn't feel like I was actually reading a Harry Potter book at some times because all six previous books were always mostly Hogwarts with a few moments out while this one was the complete contrary... Still a great book and the only good thing about the epilogue was the fact that by doing this, J.K. really 'closed' the series, it's not as though she left us at he's 17 years old and what happens for the rest of his life, at least we know a bit what happened so that part was cool in a way.
Hello folks - New to list. Want to thank you all for being here -- I'm unexpectedly grief-struck by the fact it's the last book, no more to come. Not saddened (much) by the deaths; but while the series continued, all the characters seemd to live as my friends, and now they've all said goodbye and left the room, I'll know no more about them. But here, clearly, they're still in the room. :) Well -- seems like this last book actually got written before some of the more recent ones, and was so complex that the back-writing and re-writing didn't work as well -- not enough space or time to expand the scenes (like, what was going on at Hogwarts during the camp-out). Didn't see enough of my favorite characters (aside from the 3). All in all, minor things. Fine job Jo!
The book was great. I think many can agree that the epilogue could've been a lot better. The Hogwarts Battle was amazing. She did have a twist that many people could probably not have thought of. I know I didn't. Rest In Peace Mad Eye, Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Collin. We'll miss you all...*Cries to self. I liked it. Maybe if we're lucky she'll explain more, but she probably did that so we could come up with our own ideas of what happened. (Kinda like the Giver, though she did go on and make sequels when she said she wouldn't.)
this book was amazing..well words cant even describe how good it was!!! i will definatley have to reread to tie some ends together haha, can someone please tell me wat epilouge is?? is that wat the last chapter is? i relaly liked that..just gave a taste of how their lives are now..to bad she wont be written an "after life" book!! ah well... i hope JK can still answer some questions that many people are puzzling about though :) but overall the book is definatley my favortie book i have ever read! good job JK
I would like to comment regarding the so called "unecessary deaths." I must say, I was completely happy to see the JKR adapted to the very necessary mood of this novel. Perhaps I am the only one in this connection, but it seemed like the Death Eaters regime is somewhat similar to Nazi Germany, and all the pure blood mania. Perhaps I'm late on coming to this conclusion? Anyways, to get back on point, it was extremely necessary to kill irrelevant, and somewhat kind and loveable characters to attone for the mood of war. Good people, just like bad people, have to die. Dobby gets the chance to die for Harry, the person who indeed saved him. He is happy with it, for sure. Hedwig's death seemed a little overdone, but because it was so early, it set the book up quite perfectly. For the most part, I could not be happier with how things transpired... Great work JKR!!
I felt the book was very entertaining and flowed nicely. The final battle scene was excellent, but that is where disappointment hit. To me I had always wondered what would happen after they won the battle, who was alive and what did they go on to do, that sort of thing. However, not recieving anything around those lines I did become disappointed in what I read. My personal hopes was that Harry was going to address everyone by taking the podium in which the headmaster usually spoke to the students of Hogwarts in the great hall. Instead he grabbed his cloak and slipped away. The scene talking to Dumbledore's portrait was ok, but I was really wanting more in the great hall. One personal thing I had always thought would have been a great scene and that I wanted to read was when Harry and Ginny revealed their relationship to Molly. I had always wanted to witness her reaction. There was also the case of the Malfoys and many others. Then came the epilogue. Instead of a chapter discussing certain characters (And I think most of us would like to know about many of characters) we got a scene of Harry & Ginny and Ron & Hermione sending their kids off to Hogwarts. All well and good, but nothing was explained. Just a cute scene of them telling them about Hogwarts and how their children were acting. We all knew if they survived that they would end up together, so to me it felt like a wasted portion of writing. I really think a chapter or two explaining the day after the battle would have been nice. I would assume as it was becoming dawn that many of the people inside would have stayed in Hogwarts together. Cleaning the grounds, mourning their losses, and embracing each other. And another chapter explaining what has since happened. I suppose a small part of me is hoping for another installment from J.K. to go into details about the following day or days, the marriages of Harry & Ginny (including Molly's reaction to finding out) and Ron & Hermione, and their post-Hogwar...
I liked: - Lupin and Tonks already being married. - Dudley not thinking Harry was a waste of space. - Dumbledore's will. - Hermione and Ron "sort of" together at the wedding. - Kingsley's patronus at the wedding. - Lupin making Harry Godfather of Teddy. - The letter Lily wrote to Sirius. - Bathilda being Nagini at Godric's Hallow. - Snape's patronus leading Harry to the sword. - Ron coming back and saving Harry and killing the locket. - Pettigrew dying. - The entire Malfoy Manor thing. (SECOND FAVORITE!) - Harry digging Dobby's grave by hand. - Harry being the descendant of one of the Peverell brothers. - Hermione being Bella at Gringotts. - The memories of Snape. (FAVORITE!) - The battle of Hogwarts. - Neville being super courageous. - Harry dying. - Harry meeting with Dumbledore... in his mind? - Harry coming back. - Mrs. Weasley killing Bella, although we all thought Neville would do it. - Harry killing Voldy. - Harry and Ginny getting married and having children. - Same with Hermione and Ron. - Teddy kissing Victoire... Bill and Fluer's daughter, if you didn't catch that. I'm not sure about: - Hermione and Fleur having a guy's body... Harry's body. - George's ear. - Mad-eye dying. - Dobby dying. - Snape dying. - Lupin and Tonks dying. - Collin Creevey dying. - Ron speaking Parseltongue. - The epilogue... a bit short. - The naming of Albus Severus. - One of the last things Harry said to Lupin was kinda mean. Of course, I know all the deaths had to happen, but I can't like someone dying... And there are no dislikes because I can't think of one thing that I absolutely hated in the book... Alright I'm done.
The deaths were all terribly sad--ooh Fred! :( --but Dobby's death affected me the most. He always seemed such an innocent and gave Harry such unconditional love. I had big, hot tears on my t-shirt. A Question--How did Neville get the sword? Did I read too fast?
Nothing disappointed me, really. Heh. It was a wonderful read. But-but-but...SNNAAPPPPE.
it was great!!! i knew harry would live/snape would be good/ ron & hermoine wouldnt die. the epilogue was a bit of a dissapointment i must say... what happened to luna? or the rest of the weasleys?? she make it too short. and there were a lot of un-answered questions. whats the veil? who can do magic in later life? whats the connection with harry & lily's eyes? i guess we'll never know... but im glad with the outcome and what became of harry. he is amazing!!! im so sad the series is over, but it will forever be in my heart! yayayaya I LOVE HP!!!! JK is a genius. great finish! :)
I was very nervous when I started to read. I cried A LOT with Dobby, Harry's going to the forest to meet Volds, Molly Weasley fight!, Percy and Harry trully forgiving Snape. I loved the book, really loved. Although I liked the epilogue a LOT, I think it could be more detailled (for instance what happened to Luna? did I miss something?) but I really enjoyed it. I agree that she changes/not fullfilled some promisses and the number of deaths was bigger than she said, but again, that is the surprise of the book. It's hard for me to say if my preffered is this or prisioner of azkaban. when I finished the book I was felling fullfilled and I am not "harry sick" as I thought I would be after the end. Great job JK! now, let's wait for book 8!
WHAT AN AMAZING book i luv that ron and hermione got together and also that Ginny and Harry got married and had children, best book ever!!!!!!! I loved the final battle between harry and voldemort because harry was talking down to Tom Riddle.
This is by far my favorite book in the series, though I wasn't fond of the epilogue. It felt sort of rushed and out of place to me, and I want to know what became of Luna and George. I felt she left a lot out of it. Otherwise I enjoyed the book immensely. I laughed, I cried, and now I'm depressed that there will be no more adventures to look forward to. Thank God for fanfiction.
