I really enjoyed Deathly Hallows, but I feel like we definitely missed out on some key things. I really thought that there would be more to discover inside the Ministry of Magic especially in regards to The Veil and The Room. Also, I felt as if the ending was rushed; perhaps there was just so much going on, but I felt that certain things should have went into a little more detail. Nevertheless, the book was absolutely amazing and congratulations to Ron and Hermione!
Amazing amazing amazing...yes, the epilogue was a bit like fanfiction, buit for something like that, you can't really write it any other way. The book made me like characters I usually couldn't stand (Hagrid, Ron)~ And...I ran out of words.
Thought it was amazing, although I would have preferred more closure with the epilogue. One thign I notice tho and Its quite possible that I am extremely wrong. In the mugglecast they talked like Harry never had all three Hallows when Im entirely convinced he did. Walking in the woods to voldemort didnt he have A) the Cloak, B) the Ressurection Stone, and C) the Elder Wand(in the form of Draco Malfoys wand.. since he became the owner of it upon Dumbledores death).... I mean he had the stone.. Lilly James Sirius and Lupin were walking with him.. He obviously had the wand.. and he had the cloak because it was still on his body.. or else he wouldnt have been able to use it later int he battle... So unless he needed the Acutal powerless Elder wand.. he did indeed have possession of all 3 hallows at one point.
not my daughter girl! wow classic molly
I loved the book, I thought is was missing some of the aspects that caused me to become so emotional over character deaths because they were so abrupt and it didn't give you much time to grieve yourself. I was very happy with the ending and like most people was dissapointed by the epilogue. I hope jk rowling answers some out the questions soon.
Although i still have some questions, that was a very amazing book!! i definately thought Harry was going to die and then i was sure that he really did!! Even though i cried from the point that hedwig was killed until the last page and th rest of the day.... i think the book was soooo good. i feel really bad for snape and thought it was sweet that he wanted Harry to look at him before he died so that he got to see "lily's" eyes one last time =[ GREAT JOB J.K, ANOTHER FABULOUS BOOK
Sorry for the length, see the rest of my comment (by now a few pages prior), and here is the conclusion to it: (and whether it was a big pile of poo), but we'll have new stories to speculate about. New blanks to fill. What DID happen to Luna? Dean? Did George keep the shop open? Did Teddy grow up with his grandmother? And what do they do for a living? Tell me. Did any of you really want Harry to be a famous Auror? An international Quidditch player? Minister of Magic? If you've really known Harry for the last seven years of his life, all you've wanted for him is a nice, normal life. Just a little peace, after everything that happened to him. Details are insignificant. It's that he got there that matters. A little picture of that, of Harry having the most normal life he could, without getting bogged down in any details other than the small and the mundane, is the happiest thing we could possibly imagine for The Boy Who Lived. JKR was not kidding. All was well. And it's up to us to accept it, and take it from there. So many people now have the gall to villainize Jo Rowling? Shame on them. She made this world for us. And now she's left it, with so much of the story told, a knowing little nod that everything turned out normal, and so much for us to do with it what we will. Bless her.
Just to start off, I think the book was wonderful, incredibly gripping. I was expecting a lot of deaths and I have heard people say it would have been better with more, but I thought it was a blood bath. Good thing I was prepared with my tissues. Remus and Tonks, that was so comforting and amazing and then the end, I can't believe they died. That crushed me along with Fred. Remus' little speech when Harry saw him in the Ressurection Stone was so sweet. About how he just wanted to make the world better for his son. The ending was awesome, such trickery. The Epiloge, I agree I'm sure she could have made it more, but Jo has created an utterly fanstastic world either way. Either way...The Epigraphs at the beginning of the book were really clever also.
i must agree that it was dissappointing...and so many unanswered questions. the gleam of triumph in dumbldores eye? where was the reason for it? i was very looking forward to that and ginny becoming very powerful and having a big part with voldemort...sad so sad...i wish she would write it over again. or an extremely long epilogue..that has the facts right.
Victoire is the daughter of Bill and Fleur. It means 'victory' in French. Isn't that cool? :P
Weasleysourking, your not the only one who feels the loss! I cried whenever someone died, except for Mad Eye. I guess i just couldnt accept it. I've still cried today even though I'm done with the book! What about when harry had to let Voldy kill him!! I actually thought he had died (obviously before i continued) and had to put the book down for almost two inutes as I could not see through all the tears. Fred was the hardest loss (besides Harry (you know what i mean)). The epilouge was alittle confusing at them time but it is great!! The book was brilliant!!
The epilogue sucked: It may be written by a crazy fangirl. But the begining was amazing, and the development was incredible. Perhaps the deaths of Lupin and Tonks seem less developed than their importance deserve, because they're noble and important characters and deserve a more careful and tender treatment than the one given in the book. The moments of loneliness and thoughtfulness are wonderful, the feeling of looseness and despair were crawling through my spine every time I read them! And the death of Fred was breathtaking... Some of the topics are poorly developed, and some of the theories seem cheap. But my general feeling is of astonishment and delight, I sincerely congratulate JK Rowling for giving us these moments of intense feelings! Sorry my english, it's not my mother tongue :( Kisses to all mugglenet readers and, specially, to all mugglenet makers. You're amazing, lads!
KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OF AMAZING! The twists were incredible! All the back story on Dumbledore, his parrallel to Percy, in that he put power above family. All the character growth and shifts. Ron growing in leaps and bounds and destroying the darkness in his own heart as he stabbed the locket. The battle at Hogwarts, the weird off the cuff humor dramaticly shifting to incredible action and suspense. Kingsley, Molly and Minerva kicking all kinds of butt! Every mission, falling apart, it all felt very realistic. When the plan falls apart, what do you do? Improvise. The Hallows and their true meaning throw me straight for a loop. Now i've noticed that most people dislike the epilogue because we didn't find out a lot, but at the heart, she's showing us what really matters, that they are all a family and that they love each other all the more because of what they went through. It's not their jobs that define them, but their family and the love that they share. It was an incredible read and I can't wait to read it all again.
best of them all! could have done without the epilogue, it was vauge and only talked abt harry ron hermione and ginny i wanted rowling to out linw what happend to each character af "19 years" dissappinted, overall the book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, but i have a feeling rowling will write more and not tell anyone and just publish it and see what happens,
to me it seemed as if DH was really separate from the other books. All the new characters introduced and her writing style was definteley more darker. I liked it except I wish the final dual between Harry & Voldemort was longer, doesn't seem like Harry won by chance? I mean its just CHANCE that he overpowered Draco at the manor. The thing that is bothering me the most however is that I read a fanfiction (After the Die is Cast by Mudblood428) in which the final battle is well...A LOT better than canon. It kind of ruined it for me but it's TRUE! read it for yourself & you will see.
Weasleysourking: i feel a huge loss in my life right now =[ i cried my etes out to! haha. It ended on such a good note! none of the trio died. which excited me alot! Im not surprised about snape being good. And i wish Fred didnt leave us! but it was so random and quick with the deaths of tonks and lupin..and fred. they just kinda appeared dead. It saddened me but i didnt cry until after i finished reading. =[ Thankyou Jo for writing us the Harry Potter books! they're the best. =]
JK Rowling is AMAZING!! What a fabulous book!! I felt it answered everything I need to know. I loved the Snape story and the Dumbledore backstory. I believed that Snape did not kill Dumbledore because he wanted to-i just mistakenly thought it had something to do with the Unbreakable Vow that he made with Narcissa. Sad to lose Fred, Remus and Tonks. As for Juze 19's question about Victoire. I believe that is the daughter of Fleur and Bill. JK Rowling is gifted! I can't wait to see what kind of characters she comes up with next!!!
I sobbed hysterically from when Fred died to when Dumbledore started talking to Harry. It was a great book! There are some things that weren't answered, but I think J.K. Rowling did that for a reason. There also were what seemed to be some unnessasary deaths, but the deaths of innocent people are always unnessasary. It was a mark of how truly horrible Voldemort is, and how thankful we should be that he didn't conquer over Harry.
This book was AMAZING! The most heart-wrenching part has to be when Snape looks at Harry before he dies and says "Look...at...me..." so that he can see Lily's eyes one more time. I didn't realize what it meant at the time, but when I did finally realize it I was bawling. It's just tragic and perfect.
I KNEW Snape was good! I also knew he loved Lily Evans, so I was close to shrieking like a Banshee because of excitement when I figured out that when Snape said "Look...at...me" to Harry, he meant he wanted to see Lily's eyes as the last things he saw before he died. I think Snape has become my favorite character in Harry Potter now. I do wish the last chapter didn't leave such a gaping 19-year hole, but at least fans can have lots of room for fanfiction writing.
ahhh i loved it!! all of it..well the epilogue could have been better but otherwise its my favorite!! ahh but i was dissapointed that she didn't mention the character that was supposed to "in desperate cirumstances" perform magic when throughout the series had not performed it.
Sarahc4101, regarding Lupin and Tonk's son, if I am not mistaken, he was seeing someone off.. not actually going to Hogwart's himself.
Oh man... it was amazing, simple as that. I can't say exactly how I'm feeling about it because it's so fresh in my mind. A mixture of absolute love and absolute grief that it's over. The action was SO intense, the adventure, mesmerizing, the escapes, thrilling, and the end, everything I wanted it to be! I was a little disappointed in some of the details...Neville never getting his revenge by killing Bellatrix and (I agree) the Epilogue let me down. But all in all, it was spectacular! I'll have to re-read it to be able to say it was the best one yet! Thank you, J.K. Rowling for the best ride EVER!
Overall, definitely worth the read and wait. It was interesting to see the characters interact outside the realm of Hogwarts. My only complaint is that it seemed to end quite abruptly.
yeah, i definitely agree that it was the best in the series but that the epilogue left a ton to be desired. i have no idea what james and lily's occupations were, or what the concrete details of the veil in the department of mysteries were (however i'm guessing that since the deathly hallows turned out to actually exist that might've been the veil mentioned in the story and sirius falling behind it meant that he was now stuck in the realm of some sort of after-life). umm also what happened with the school- who's teaching besides neville? i'm assuming mcgonagall is headmistress but still... also yeah- who managed to do magic late in life? i don't remember petunia doing anything and there wasn't much mention of filch. did it have something to do with dumbledore's sister? i LOVED everyone's character developments. cheers to j.k. for making me feel intense pity and sorrow for the most hated characters in the series...i really feel that snape's death was the most significant for all it explained and how much depth it brought to the story. as for wormtail's hand...i've been hearing, and i agree, that since voldemort made the hand, there was something of his ways in it and so it killed wormtail for showing a moment's mercy. and dumbledore had said that harry would one day be glad he had someone on the inside who owed him a life debt. BUT WHAT DID THE TRIO DO WITH THEIR LIVES BESIDES POP OUT A BUNCH OF BABIES??
I loved this book! So amazing I sobbed so much! Soo many people died! But over all i loved it. The battle will forever be the greatest battle of all time!!
wow...this book is definatly my fav...there are still so many unanswered questions....one I really wanted to know was what did harry's parents do for a living...maybe it said it and I didn't notice...I HATED tonks and lupin dying, and fred!?!?!?!? for me those came out of no where...my fav parts were when kreacher hit dung over the head with the pot and molly called out bellatrix (haha you *Beep*!!)......epilogue kinda confused me just a bit....I cried about every five chapters in the book...not really but I was screaming "oh crap!" in my room alot....I ended up having to take a break and explain to my mom why I was yelling....anywho this was my fav... Joe please write more!!!!!!!
Why the heck did Jo even introduce the Deathly Hallows? They completely overshadowed the horcruxes, and weren't even useful, with the possible exception of the wand, which was just a cop out way for Harry to defeat Voldemort. They were the most useless plot element of all 7 books. Also, since Harry was able to "win" control over the elder wand by disarming Draco, even when Draco didn't have the elder wand, now, can't anybody take control over the elder wand simply by disarming Harry at some point over the course of the rest of his life? Harry's assumption that the elder wand will die when he dies is pretty presumptuous.
Wow... I just loved it. I didn't like though how all the deaths were so causual, with an air of "so what?' But still, it was great. I read it all in one day.
i like the trio surviving- was definietlyy too high a body count- who does she consider main characters- and more than 3 of my main characters bit the dust-a magnificently crafted novel, but OVERBOARD ON DEATHS-- Iwas happy with my predictions also(personal note) but was way off in "who dies " im saying victorie was eldest potter child" another child called her our victorie
JK Rowling has inspired me for years, and all I can say is that every time I read her books whether for the first time or the hundreth time, I learn something new from her each and every time. And this book was no exception. By far one of the best books I have ever read. When I waited in line at Barnes and Noble to get the book at midnight on the 21st, I was talking to several other fans, and it is so incredible how she has captured the fascination of so many people spanning the globe and generations. I was laughing, crying, jumping up and down, holding my breath, and feeling hope and dispair. When I read this book, I almost forgot I was reading it because it was all so vivid in my mind's eye it was like I could see it all happening around me. I think the book ended very well. It left me with a smile on my face and hope in my heart. It was and is as JK Rowling said herself, "All was well."
I really liked the book. I was very upset about the dealth of Fred. I hate to think of George without him. They are two of my favorite characters. I am sad about both Lupin and Tonks...poor Teddy! The epiloge was cute...it leaves a lot out there. It's probably a pipe dream...but I would love to see little short stories from her on Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and the kids...and everybody else! She left it wide open for more to be written! I feel really good about the way the series ended. Thanks Jo!!!!
I loved it...wonderful story.
Loved the book! Am SO SO happy that Snape is vindicated as a courageous hero, and that Harry honoured him in the naming of his child. It mitigates the super sadness (still weepy) at Snape's tragic life & death, which was full of meaning and purpose. Would have liked to have more closure on the Snape & Harry connection, like a scene with his Headmaster potrait or something, but otherwise I like the epilogue for focusing on the peaceful and positive future. Thank you so much to JKR for her wonderful books, especially DH. Thanks mugglenet for this site to help work out my post HP mini-depressive state. ;)
Fred... ;_;
With a series as long and complex as the Harry Potter series, there was much more to be desired in the epilouge. Who would become the next minister of magic and what happens to all the other characters and what is everyones career once they are older?
absolutely smashing!!!!!!! bloody brilliant!!!!! simply fantastic!! all of those who have said something along my lines, 'ear 'ear!!!! *giggles at the joke* gotta love those ear jokes. i loved every part of it, i cried so much, especially at the part where harry was walking towards the forest knowing he had to die, and his parents, sirius and lupin were with him. so emotional....thankyou so much jo for such an amazing book. you have fulfuilled my child and teenage years....i have followed it from day one,a nd will always follow it..the books may have ended, but the magic still rises and continues in my heart
I really loved it. It made me cry, laugh, smile, and not to mention, really surprised! There were many twists and turns I don't think anybody coudld've predicted. It did seem like some of the magic was gone, though, since they didn't return to Hogwarts. I was shocked, seriously shocked, at all the deaths. I expected a lot of main characters to die, but WOW were there a TON! I can't even name them all off the top of my head right now. I was extremely disappointed in the epilogue. Jo left out important things like who was the Minister of Magic and Hogwarts Headmaster/mistress, what Harry's job was, etc., and the lack of information bugged me. Also, many things that Jo promised would be explained in the book were left out. Hopefully she'll explain more of what she promised in coming interviews. I did love when Harry said "That wand's more trouble than it's worth, and quite honestly, I've had enough trouble for a lifetime". Awesome last line. All in all, a beautiful ending to a phenomenal series. Great work Jo!
AWSOME BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sad it's all over ( it's been a HUDGE part of my lise for six years) I'm gald i could be part of this wholw harry potter mania. soooooo about the book I cried when Tonks and Hedwig died : ( j.k sadi 2 people would die HA! more like 20. BEST BOOK EVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i luv ya j.k really happy ending just proves good always triumps over evil : )
It was amazing. It was better than i thought it would be. I loved it so much. But i am soooo sad it is over. I cant believe it.
I haven't really made up my mind about how much I liked it yet. I was so upset that our view of Dumbledore was tarnished, but there was so much action and all of that was so good. I could have done with a little more Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny. I didn't cry at all reading the book, but there were 3 times that I was close. First was for Hedwig. Second was for Dobby. And the last time, and closest to tears, was when Harry asked Lily to stay next to him. But the absolutely most exciting part of the book, when everything seems to have reached the climax already, was after the wedding when they got the Patronus saying that the Ministry had fallen. But wow. JKR really had no mercy for the movie-makers did she? HOW they're going to get all the important points into one movie without totally destroying it is beyond me. But there are still so many questions...
I loved this one so much but I can't imagine why she had to stop the series once Voldemort was defeated, let alone skip ahead that many years and leave that much time partly unaccounted for. So much could have happened. And where does the two couples even live? Maybe five or ten years could have been better. Even though I'm glad that mostly everyone survived I don't want it to end here. The Deathly Hallows is probably my overall favorite though.
some of the deaths were so pointless! like poor hedwig! who do you think got a reprieve? And i assume lupin and tonks were the 2 who died who weren't going to before.....
I CRIED SO HARD WHEN DOBBY DIED! I LOVE KREACHER!
Loved the book. Sad about the deaths of certain people. My theory about Professor Snape was right, his whole story was amazing and his final words to harry were tear-jerking. I did not like the epilogue (sp) as I would have liked to have known more about the others that had survivied like the professors at Hogwarts, the rest of the Weasleys, and others. There were some things that Jo said/promised to cover that I did not get answers to it, but I will have to re-read it just in case I missed the clues. I was sad about Dobby's death, it was painful. Snape's death was sad and brought me to tears. Mad-eye's death was quick and did not really bother me. Harry's faking his death in the arms of Hagrid and everyone seeing his limp body and their reactions...that was sad. When Harry faced his death bravely and Lupin, Lily, James and Sirius were with him....oh man, I was balling! I have to read it again to allow it to commit to memory but overall it was a good book with a vague epilogue.
Amazing!!!! Completely different from all the others in the series, but just amazing!!! So satisfied maybe a few disappointments and tear jerker’s, but loved it!!!!!!
I think the one to develope magic late in life was Dudley, but not wizard magic, but the power to love Harry? I don't know. That's just the closest I can think to get to that question. I like the epilogue in that it gave me a warm, happy feeling. I just really, really wish that some other characters were covered, such as George, Percy, Charlie, Teddy, Luna, and the occupations of these characters (except for Percy, because, well, we all know that he probably went back to the ministry). I mean, did George possibly continue the joke shop, or did he retire it out of respect for Fred? SO many questions! PS--I heard from someone that JKR said on the news today that this was NOT the end. Anyone know anything about that?
WOW OMG best book EVER!!!!!!!! very nicley done JKR u deserve everything she gets she earned it all! the book was everythin it was supposed to be for me and it was dudley who performed magic, coz it was magic that he thanked harry. anyways GREAT book JO!!!!!!!
Oh wow, the book was awesome, but I hated the last chapter. It could have answered so much more and the reuse of names was just kinda unnecessary, lame sentiment. On the deaths: many were unnecessary in themselves (Lupin and Tonks), but needed to show the atmosphere of the war. The loss of Dobby made me cry the most. I can't wait to participate a few days from now when JKR will start giving interviews, and be able to tell us all the unexplained stuff (behind the viel) and reinforce all the little assumptions (Victoire=Bill+Fleur) that crazy Potterheads will try to pick apart. I'm also looking forward to new wave in fanfics.
wyld_stallyns, I read the first part of your comment, somehow managed to track down the second and agree with you. :)
