loved the book! amazing!
OMG-Hedwig, Mad Eye, Dobby, Fred, Collin, Snape, Tonks, Lupin, what a tear jerker! I was very disappointed in the Epilogue, left too many questions. Lots of morale lessons in all the books, especially judging a book by its cover-no pun intended! I did not understand the cover illustration, seemed to be lacking something. Maybe we will be lucky and she will start a new series based on the kids. All in all I did like the book but I thought OOTP, GOF, HBP were better. I had to go back to the movies and watch OOTP again because I did not like that the first time around either.
Book was fantastic, epilogue was a let down. I'm hoping that JK Rowling will give us a bit more detail about what happened to the surviving characters in interviews. Snape's story was sad and sweet. Folks, I hate to break it to you, but James and Lily are KIDS (obviously named after Harry's parents) they don't have jobs. What did the original James and Lily do? They worked for the Order of the Phoenix. James inherited money from his parents; he was taken care of. He didn't need to worry about money.
why was teddy on board the train at the end? If it was 19 years later he would have been done with Hogwarts. Great book though. I hope the epilogue isnt her way of copping out on writing one, two or seven more books
I still can't believe she killed fred! then she diddn't even tie up the loose ends on geroge's side. Aod When she killed Lupin, my heart dropped out. He was the one charter ( aside fron the weasly twins... *tear*) that at the start of the book I told my self wouldn't die (not because I knew but because I couldn't take it if he did). And I never even expected the loss of Tonks. wow, I can't believe its over... Over a decade and now... well, just an empty feeling. Still disapointed with the epiloge, read more like a fan fic than an epiloge.
The posts are coming in so fast, everybody is talking to themselves as their posts are buried in a sea of posts! I'm drowning, and no one will hear me!
Before this book my favorite has always been the third because of the difference from the rest of the series, but now book seven has surpassed that. The action never leaves and i spent the next fifteen hours after i purchased the book reading not breaking for anything. I am still wondering what happened to some of my favorite characters, such as Luna, Percy, Mcgongall, and many more; but from all the answers that JK did answer, i am satisfied, fully.
i loved kreacher and his stand at hogwarts with the rest of the house elves! I loved how the threstrals and buckbeak were attacking the giants at hogwarts. The battle at hogwarts chapter was awesome! it gave me chills of excitement!
i loved it as well. i knew i would cry, but i never thought it would be over DOBBY. but, when those boys gave him their clothes... yeah, i was like a human hosepipe. i thought the epilogue was a bit of a letdown as well, but the more i think about it, the more it leaves jo open to write more about our favorite witches and wizards. one of the only "friend" characters mentioned is neville, and no one else's occupations are mentioned at ALL. there could be a "harry the auror" series just waiting to be released... who knows? what a great weekend, though.
Finished yesterday and the story slowly sets. Looking forward to read it again and again and again and I know exactely I will cry again. Loved the Dobby death/grave digging part.
This is definitely my favorite book in the series, although it was also the most heartbreaking. Every time another character died, I felt that my heart became more and more weighed down by everything. I definitely cried more while reading this book than while reading any other in the series. As for people saying that the sheer number of deaths seemed unnecessary - yes, they were, but I think that's the point. I think JKR was trying to impress upon the reader just how horrific and tragic war is. I will miss everyone who died terribly. I wish we could have found out how George was doing after losing his twin. The entire ending of the book, from the point of Snape's death, was absolutely heartwrenching, yet hopeful as well. Harry is such a beacon of everything that is good and hopeful and pure, and he has such an amazing quality of character that it is amazing to watch such an extraordinary person go to the absolute edge of possibility to save everything that he holds dear. JKR wrote an amazing series that will undoubtedly be read for generations to come. Her characters, and their stories, are engrained in our hearts forever. Thank you JKR.
I thought the book was just perfect. I great way to end the series. its sooo sad that its over but i'm just glad that although about 14 people died, harry, ron, and hermione survived and lived a happy life. this book was defnitely my favorite. :) j.k. rowling is amazinggg!!
Great book from all points of view. Like many of the people who wrote here I was a bit perplexed when I have read the epilogue but GREAT and UNBEATABLE nevertheless!!! :)) Although some of the battle scenes made me remember that Van Helsing crap :))))
I gotta say that the book was absolutely fantastic. The middle was a bit slow lots of sitting around and staring at eachother. I personally was concerned for Ron's life for awhile there though. I wasn't worried about Death Eaters or He Who Must Not Be Named I thought for sure Hermione was gonna kill him when he showed back up in the tent with Harry. WOW she was pissed....NOT THAT I BLAME HER! Overall and excellent book.
Wow, the comments on this thing are growing exponentially :) Well, I LOVED the book. It is by far my favourite in the series. A spot that was previously taken by PoA. I have read a lot of really good books by really great authors, but no one draws me in like Jo. Jo you are AWESOME and thank you soooo much for writing this! I HATED: Dudley's little stint with Harry. COME ON! That sounded more fan-fiction to me than anything else! I'M OKAY WITH: The epilogue. No it's okay really, but I wanted to know more. Like what are Harry, Ron and Hermione doing for example? Aurors? If they are Aurors, who the hell are they catching? Too many questions. I liked the epilogue but Jo has written stuff way better than it. I LOVED: Everything else. Seriously! I loved all the tent stuff. It was EXCITING, not knowing when and who will turn up. I cried a lot, first with Hedwig, then Dobby... then Fred. I also was shocked when Harry's wand, well, died. Fitting though that the phoenix feather wand was born again. Loved King's Cross - though I was a little confused by it! Loved all the battles, I was actually afraid to start reading Malfoy Manor! I believed the Harry-is-a-horcrux theory and when it was proved right I actually started crying going "Not Harry! Please, not Harry†reminding myself a little of Lily! LOVED the Grindelwald twist! OMG that was unexpected. All in all the book was perfect. I hate to say goodbye to Harry but I guess you have to. Most of us have lived with Harry for a good part of our lives, and it just breaks my heart letting him go. I am still reeling from all the emotions. Even though we know he survives and is happy, it’s like letting go of someone you love! Bittersweet is the word I’m looking for here. MY FAVOURITE LINE: “Of course it's happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?†:-) So fitting... So Dumbledore... So true :-)
i loved the book but the ending was disapointing. i dont know why ted was on the hogwarts express hes 19 years old thats to old for school. i think victorie was duddlys kid and i think that makes him the person who does magic later.
i absolutely loved this book, but i cant believe snape died=[ he has alway been my FAVORITE character and i absolutely lovedddd him, but the way he died was so sad=[ and when harry named his kid albus severus?!?! i lost it. it was so incredibly touching. i cant imagine a better way to end the series. Even though i'm reallt REALLY hoping for another book=]
I simply loved this book. It might just be my favourite of the entire series! I liked the Epilogue, but not as much as the rest of the book, to be honest, I wish it were longer and explained more about the future occupations of the characters. Other than that, I was astonished at how I was on the edge of my seat nearly the entire time. Fred was the hardest death for me. Dobby was a very close second. I knew Snape was good, and when he died, I cried too. I enjoyed how the romance took a back seat and that even though it happened, it wasn't too utterly cliche or ridiculous. All of the backstory of Dumbledore really got to me, I thoroughly enjoyed learning about it, and wondered what if he had chosen a different path. What would the world be like? The battle was fantastic, and I liked how it was over many chapters, not just one or two. The plot was so complex and wonderful. Great job Jo!
Bloody Horcruxes that was a way good book! I love all of it! I just wish that Fred, Tonks and Lupin were alive. That makes me so sad! I LOVE THE EPILOGUE! THIS WAS AMAZING! GO POTTER! MJ_Padfoot
I found it hopeful considering the epilogue that Jo might be considering a "continuation" using the children of our favorite trio and the children of their villainous opponents as a basis. Technically then there would be no more in the harry potter series but then it does not close off the possibility of a albus severus potter series.. At least one may hope
OMG I LOVED IT. IN VOLDEMORT'S MEMORY OF KILLING THE POTTERS WHEN I READ THAT LILLY'S HAIR WAS RED(!!!!) I KNEW HE WAS GONNA MARRY GINNY! OMG! I LOVED IT! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HARRY JKROWLING! :D READ IN ONE NIGHT!
INCREDIBLE! Absolutely amazing, heart wrenching, tear jerking, "WHAT THE HECK!", I can't let them go, my childhood is ending way to end the greatest series in literature. Jo Rowling is probably the most brilliant person to ever grace us with her words and imagination. I think I cried the most when Dobby died and by the time we got to Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Colin, etc. I was 'cried out' and only managed to scream in shock and feel my heart breaking as the Weasleys sat around Fred. Okay, now I'm starting to cry again. I loved it with all of my heart and can only say to Jo, the Trio, the Order, and those at Hogwarts: Goodbye my friends, I will dearly miss you.
Snape changing was so much more than anyone could have expected. Seven whole books of disliken and hating Snape changed in 1 chapter, leaving me with more respect for him than any other character. Fave part! Great book.
LOVED IT! Definately my favorite of the entire series and I don't remember crying as much in any other book. I almost didn't read it right away because I was so nervous that once I started it was going to be all over. Of course, like almost everyone else, I read it in one thrilling sitting. I can't wait to read it again!
I loved it. I thought it was the best one. The end battle was awesome. I didn't think the final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort could have been any better. My only disappointments were the epilogue(of course), and the fact that the series is over:(
the epilogue was blah...but the book was AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MAAAAAAAAAAAAAZIIIIIIIIIN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGG!!! ho w many people cried when dobby died? :-( and FRED?!? ooo...i am so sad!!!
I liked the book but agree with those who feel that some questions were not answered. These are mine: what were their occupations, who was teaching DADA, I assume McGonnagall was Headmistress of Hogwarts, why wasn't Teddy living with Harry already, I assume Victoire was Bill's daughter, is Kreacher living with Harry, and where were they living (Godric's Hollow or near the Burrow)? I have the usual let down after a series finishes. The world of Harry Potter will be missed, especially when the final two movies premiere.
one word. PERFECT!!! ahh i loved it soo much!! Man, the battle was my favorite part it was soooo cool how everyone was putting there lives on the line just so that Harry would be able to search the castle. But still the deaths were a MAJOR blow to me. Also, voldemorts death was the perfect way for him to die, i think. Nothing extremely dramatic, and yet it was fitting. He died experiencing what his numerous victims had felt when he was the one killing them. Just the fact that he practically killed himself because of the backfiring of his wand was perfect!! Anyway, i believe the epilogue was sweet and happy and fitting for the story. By far, this book is my absolute favorite!!!! Too bad it's the last :[
The best book of the series. I literally couldn't put it down until I finished reading it. A few questions weren't answered. But if JKR had answered them all, it would have read like the answers to a quiz...boring! I kind of enjoy having a few things in the air to imagine my own answers to. Oh, and Teddy most likely lived with his grandmother (Tonks' mum) but spent "4 days a week" with the Potter clan.
with everybody complaining of the weak epilogue, i thought it would be prudent to put something in. J.K. Rowling is not an idiot. in fact, she is quite intelligent. could there possibly be a reason why she would have written the epilogue in such a weak style, where nothing was as clear as her previous writing? i for one think that the reason is in the symbolic nature of the epilogue. of course the world wouldn't be the same, J.K. Rowling saw this, and probably made the epilogue's style different than the rest. if this is the case, then the symbolic reasoning behind it could be that the world after Voldemort may not have seemed as real to Harry as the world before, like his brief relationship with Ginny.
I'm sorry but i was dissapointed with the ending. The book until the end was pretty interesting and intense but towards the end it seemed like something written for 8 year olds. The fight between Voldemort and Harry should have been better...and some major character should have died...Ron, Hermione, Ginny. Nothing baout their professions at the end, it was so cheesy and like a soap opera. The book was very predictable...no exciting surprises...i feel incomplete :( A question. Snape says that Dumbledore tells him of Harry's departure through his portrait...behind HIS (Snape, as headmaster's) desk...Snape was not head by then...is that a mistake?
Yay Snape was good after all! I know lots of people didnt like the epiologue but I thought it was good, a kind of soothing "everything really is alright" before you leave Harry's world forever. Ms Rowling, I doff my hat :)
the last chapter was like a bad fan fic.
how can you people cry when the prince died?!? Sure, he was a good guy, and working on DB's orders, but hes still a terrible person, and I, like Harry, willnever forgive him! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! !!! WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY DID DOBBY HAVE TO DIE??!!!!???? YOUURE TOO CRUEL JK!!!
INCREDIBLE BOOK!! my favorite in the series....although Jo did not include everything she said she would. constant action and even kinda scary at parts; loved it. But I thought the whole Snape ending up good thing was horrible....I wanted him to be evil. I cried when Harry was walking to his death. HATED THE EPILOGUE!!!!! soooooo corny!
Omg. the book was amazing! I was devistated when Fred died though. He was my favorite twin. I think some of the deaths were unnecissary though. All the deaths made me bawl like a baby. It was most definitly the best book in the series though. Action packed through the whole book. They better do this book justice in the movie, and the movie better be the longest. I was sorta surprised at how many of our therys we acctually got right though. As for the epilogue I think more could have been explained. And for everyone saying that Teddy would have been living with Harry well no not really. First off he had his grandmother and second in the epilogue he was 19 and would be living on his own by then. And Victorie yes she probably is Bill's and Fleur's child. But hopefully J.K. will publish an exiclipidi like book telling us a little more ans maybe answering some of our questions that have not been answered. p.s. cant waite for the movie to come out!
I LOVED IT!!! It was awesome!!! I only cried for Dobby and Fred, but I completely lost it, during Harry's Walk to death, it was around 4:30 in the morning yesterday, and i was suprised i didn't wake anyone up i was crying so loud for a good 15 to 20 minutes. The epilogue was dissapointing, in that we didn't find out a lot, I don't think anyone did magic late in life, parts were boring when they were camping out in different places, but all together it was great!!! I'm glad Neville got to destroy a horcrux, but I wish he could have done something to Bella. I'm also really glad that going into this book, like I have done with all the others I had no clue what the title of the book would mean, I thought it meant horcruxes, but i'm glad it didn't. Now, after I've read them all I honestly feel like a part of me is complete. I've wanted to know the ending for so long, and now I finally do. I also almost feel like an adult. I began reading these books in 1999 when I was 9, and I always hoped that I would one day receive a letter to hogwarts the summer after I turned 11 :D. Now I'm 17, and I'll be 18 in November, I'm starting college in the fall, and Harry Potter was a crucially important part of my childhood. When I was feeling sad, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were always there to make me forget whatever was going on at the time in my life, and feel better. I've reread each of the books at least once each summer, since I got the first one. I'll never forget what an extroadinary impact these books have had on my life, and I hope you all feel the same way. Reading Harry Potter made me love reading, and work hard in school like Hermione. Thanks JK Rowling for everything!!!
It was simply Perfect. Wonderful. Incomparable... And no, though I cried at some parts, I didn't cry at the end. Because what I felt was a mixture of awe and pure pride. Pride at that which I was reading, at what I always believed in, pride at the way everything happened in the end. No feasts, no cheering, no "happy end" , no glory or show... Only the remains of a great act of bravery and, above everything, Love. It's all Harry has or ever had. Nothing more. No amazing skills, no particular talents. He only had one great power. Despite everything that had happened to him, he could love. Just love. And love can outpower anything, and those who lack it, who neglect it, who prefer skills to it, will be forever doomed. Not because they die, but because they have lived without love... Thank you Jo...Thank you.
There were a few things left unanswered.. and i do wonder who teddy was living with.. and who did draco marry? But god.. so sad the lupid, tonks, dobby, fred!, and all the others who died. But Neville! whoa.. killing nagini.. and ron imitating parseltongue.. but the couples and kids at the end.. harry and ginny and ron and hermonie .. oh i was so happy! and how they named their children.. loved it.. this book was absolutely amazing
Way to go for finishing like that!!! Wish more questions couldve been answered though and the epilogue was kinda messed up...
ok FIRST...the book was amazing, with only a few dull points that could have been left out....... SECOND...th e epilogue...horrible...lef t so much open...told so little... THIRD...didn t JK say that someone would manage magic late in life...who was it? FOURTH...didnt she also say we would figure out why some become ghost and some dont...why is that? FIFTH...JK said she was done with Harry Potter books...but the epilogue seemed to leave it open for Albus Severus Potter...hmmm Great Job JK!
It was really2 amazing, and such a wonderfull ending. It's close to my theory, TRUST SNAPE! YEAH!!!! but still, I hv a question regarding this book.anyway,Jo did it again!!! it was so awesome!!! But it's kinda weird , you know, the last six book we spend it in hogwarts, and now it's like a long......summer. my questions: -we knew that Dumbledore own the Elder Wand. But why he can't kill Voldemort in the OOtP? -is teddy lupin a werewolf? -what harry, ron, hermione, ginny do for work? -what happen to luna, xenophillius, cho, fud ge,and kreacher? -will the death eater ever gonna do a mass breakout again? -who is the hogwarts headmaster now? -did harry gave james/albus/lily his invisibility cloak? -who's daughter is victoire? if she is bill and fluer's,is she a werewolf? hope JO will answer this question.
I think I cried the worst when Harry thought he was walking to his death. I almost could not read at that point. He was just commenting on all the good times at Hagrids, thinking how he just couldn't say goodbye to Ron and Hermione. Fred's death was also tragic, as it mirrored Sirius, who was also laughing at the time of his death. It just seems awful that George has to live without his other half. The Epilogue was a big confusing more than anything I thought, because of all the names, but I trust that JKR thought it was for the best. Speculation on part of the reader is sometimes fun too. Although, i would have liked it to be a bit more detailed.
****Spoilers**** i thought the middle was a little bit slow, when they were stuck in the tent for like ten chapters lol. but all and all i lovvveddd the last battle, loved how harry kept calling voldemort "tom" and LOVED how everyone was watching them circle eachother. i really wish i knew how j.k. rowling could come up with such a complex story line and make it work so well, with the hallows and horcruxes [and the whole thing with the wands]. however THE EPILOGUE was very dissapointing. First of all I really wanted to know what Harry went on to become [was he an auror??] as well as Ron and Hermione... and where he lived [back to godrics hollow?] I also wonder if he kept Kreacher as his house-elf after he got married, whether Draco had really reformed [i wasn't sure if he was on Harry and Ron's side in the end or if he was just like 'screw everybody i just want my family to live.'] I ALSo was curious about Harry's fame, how much more famous he was after killing Voldemort. So all in all the book was great, but the epilogue kind of fell short of my expectations.
Brilliant, wonderful, amazing, superb... can't think of anymore adjectives right now. But it's definately my favorite book. I'm sad quite a few people are dissapointed in the book. I absolutely loved it. I'm a bit "depressed" though now that it's over and was crying throughout the book and when I finished it. Man I hope she writes some other book with all that "leftover" information. Hogwarts A History would be AMAZING! WE LOVE YOU JO! Thank you for the opportunity to grow up with Harry.
i have few questions, could someone please answer: 1) If Voldermot would have ever tried to kill Harry before, would he have failed because of that protection? Meaning the only reason that Harry survived was because his mothers protection was in his blood and Voldermots, so as long as Voldermot is living Harry can't die, so he would of never been able to kill him, right? Then why did Harry have to choice to die or not? 2)Also why did the Crucio curse not work on him after he came back to life? 3) At the end, why did Voldermot curse not work on Harry in the final battle? Was it because Harry had his mothers protection and it wasnt possible to kill him or because the everlasting wand really belonged to Harry so it couldnt be used against him? In the case that the wand really belonged to Harry, why was that? He overpowered the regular wand from Draco not the everlasting wand, why would both belong to him then? If someone could please answer these questions, I'd really appreciate it, thanks!!
It was far from perfect, but a great way to end the series nevertheless. I loved how, even amidst all the turmoil and dark stuff happening, JKR still fits in humor points throughout the book. (ie. Ron and Hermione snogging passionately, Harry: "OI! We're fighting a war here!"). However, there's so much we don't know...What is the deal with the veil/locked room in the DoM? What job does Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny get? Who is Victoire (Bill/Fleur's daughter)? And much more...plus, Wormtail didn't need to choke himself. That was stupid and pointless. However, overall, great story! Thanks for the memories, JKR!
i'm personally more sad that it's over....i don't know if all the deaths were necessary, but i didn't really cry (except for hedwig and dobby!!!) i cried histarically when i thought harry might die, but in truth, i thought it would have to happen for voldy to die.....but i agree that the epilogue was dissappointing...it felt as if she had written what she thought all of us wanted to hear, which is very unlike her
SNAPE! ;_; I can't get over his death. I refuse to believe it!
i have NEVER cried so hard in my life...I mea, I was crying during the battle, but then realizing Harry's mission in the pensieve, i just lost it. But alls well that ends well ;) A truly amazing book. Well done, JKR.
