JKR announces character reprieve and encyclopedia
JKR announces character reprieve and encyclopedia In an interview with the Today Show, JK Rowling revealed who the character is that received a reprieve in Deathly Hallows. Highlight between the arrows to read who it is! --> Arthur Weasley <--

Additionally, Jo announced that she "probably will" create a Harry Potter encyclopedia! From NBC's website:

The encyclopedia would include back stories of characters she has already written but had to cut for the sake of narrative arc (“I've said before that Dean Thomas had a much more interesting history than ever appeared in the books”), as well as details about the characters who survive “Deathly Hallows,” characters who continue to live on in Rowling’s mind in a clearly defined magical world.

Huh, I thought Draco was the reprieve! But I also thought Mr. Weasley would die in DH as well.

Posted by Mrs_Finnegan Jul 24th 2007

Yay! A Harry Potter encyclopedia thats just what we need, I hope she actually does make one, cause that would be amazing!

Posted by harrypworshiper Jul 24th 2007

Thank God! because Fred dying was already bad enough with one of the Weasley parents dying. And an encyclopedia with short stories will be fantastic =)

Posted by abryan12 Jul 24th 2007

OH MY GOSH YAY! Now I have something to live for since the series was supposedly over... I really hope she sticks with it and writes that encyclopedia! We can't live without some Harry Potter in our lives!

Posted by janegallagher Jul 24th 2007

i really thought it was hagrid. it seemed like he was going to die in the forest but she wussed out. i also place bets that lupin and tonks were the last minute kills, although from the second peter died, i figured she was going to finish off the marauders. i'm so pleased she's writing an encyclopedia, how perfect. i wish she'd do a prequel though- either about tom riddle and the gaunts or about the marauders. preferably the latter, because then we could do snape/lily and i could get all fangirly.

Posted by Leo Jul 24th 2007

It's a really great article! Lots more to get excited about!

Posted by Potter_Fan Jul 24th 2007

Posted by mimeboy16 Jul 24th 2007

im SOO happy she decided that cause fred and bill being scared was enough for that family! I wanted to see the weasley's as the symbol of happiness in the post voldemort era...

Posted by fgm Jul 24th 2007

Posted by Luna_sees_thestrals Jul 24th 2007

Posted by Im4everawesome Jul 24th 2007

Awesome! I'm glad to know that we have at least one more of J. K. Rowling's brilliant wittings to look forward to! Thank you Jo!

Posted by sneadaj Jul 24th 2007

this is more than any of us could honestly wish for since she said before she wasn't gonna write any more hp! i am so excited . . . something to look forward to again, yay!!!

Posted by crago2000 Jul 24th 2007

Hmm I was right about Mr Weasly. I suspose it was Fred instead of him.

Posted by potterbookworm Jul 24th 2007

Wow! I never would have guessed Arthur was the one who got the reprieve! I'm glad he did, though! If that encyclopedia is created, it would be amazing! All the information many are dying to get would most likely be touched upon- Thanks Jo!

Posted by ginnypotter719 Jul 24th 2007

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! yay!

Posted by carolime Jul 24th 2007

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

Posted by Lee_Jordan2010 Jul 24th 2007

That'd be nice =)

Posted by badumboom Jul 24th 2007

I Think Tonks and Lupin were the unexpected deaths, and Lupin naming harry godfather was setting up a struggle over teddy the blue haired wherewolf. Did Greyback ever die?

Posted by icenineiv Jul 24th 2007

Oh thank god, I need a bit more closure.

Posted by Ayoub Jul 24th 2007

She should write about the Hogwarts adventures of Albus Severus Potter...

Posted by polkadotted Jul 24th 2007

oh man. i can't wait! i agree icenineiv, i need more closure as well.

Posted by Sincerely_S Jul 24th 2007

Yeah I heard about this! It's so exciting! I'm thrilled to look forward to it! I love all the history about the characters.

Posted by Nameless Jul 24th 2007

I bet Remus and Tonks are the two that she killed without planning on it originally. Or maybe Dobby and someone else. No idea. But the encyclopedia will be great when Jo comes around to writing it.

Posted by flipxchick017 Jul 24th 2007

i think knowing there's gonna be a Harry Potter encyclopedia just filled in that emptiness i had after i got finished with DH. Sooo excited for that even if it might take a couple years to publish. (:

Posted by deathcabforcutie Jul 24th 2007

oh good i liked him. but im excited about this encyclopedia/short stories.

Posted by amegee Jul 24th 2007

Yeah, in the article she says it was Lupin. I can't beleive Arthur was supposed to die in book 5- I'd assumed when she mentioned reprieves that they were both in book 7. I'm so glad he didn't!

Posted by mollychris93 Jul 24th 2007

thats awesome! can't wait for that to come out!

Posted by Luna_sees_thestrals Jul 24th 2007

i wanna know what happened to Luna.

Posted by butterbeermkd Jul 24th 2007

Knowing that she won't end it there without further back up on everyone's lives makes me feel so much better. Now I'll be able to stop sulking because of what little info we got at the end of the epilouge!!!!!!

Posted by livetodance09 Jul 24th 2007

now that i know she will be writing an encyclopedia i am extatic. and knowing that she'll be putting the characters fate in there is so exciting. i want to see where all the weasley's end up, and what hagrid ends up doing. i really want to see who the new teachers at hogwarts are. this is a great idea. but i know that she isn't planning on doing it anytime soon. but at least i know its coming. :]

Posted by potterinn Jul 24th 2007

What a great article. I wish Jo would give us just a little more info, such as the eyes, why have they been such a focus in all the books, but not a clear mention in DH.
