JKR announces character reprieve and encyclopedia
JKR announces character reprieve and encyclopedia In an interview with the Today Show, JK Rowling revealed who the character is that received a reprieve in Deathly Hallows. Highlight between the arrows to read who it is! --> Arthur Weasley <--

Additionally, Jo announced that she "probably will" create a Harry Potter encyclopedia! From NBC's website:

The encyclopedia would include back stories of characters she has already written but had to cut for the sake of narrative arc (“I've said before that Dean Thomas had a much more interesting history than ever appeared in the books”), as well as details about the characters who survive “Deathly Hallows,” characters who continue to live on in Rowling’s mind in a clearly defined magical world.

I want to know why she killed off Tonks, Remus, and Fred.

Awww... Bless her. xxx

What's everyone asking on the Live Chat thing? There was a news post, but it got taken down pretty much straight away. Does anyone know why? Anyway, if you missed it, here's a link: http://livechat.bloomsbur y.com/index.php

Because snape said "Look at me" when he died. Because Harrys eyes were exactly like lilys... it was like looking at lily when he died and saying sorry i guess... coz he gave him the memories... *sigh* that was my fav character line of the series... to know that snape was good the whole time but just hated seeing harry because his eyes reminded him of his mother and how he went to the dark side instead of being with her....

Posted by potter_princess07 Jul 25th 2007

i think she killed of tonks, remus and fred to show the seriousness of the war. of course, i would not have wanted any of them to die. how sad, teddy had to live his life with no mom or dad, just like harry. but teddy had harry as a godparent just like harry had sirius. fred was a complete and total shock. considering he was one of my favorite characters it was difficult to accept. a book all about what happens to the characters is a brillant idea. i would love to read about what happens. especially george, i wonder how he would have coped with the lost of his dear brother. and who malfoy married.

Posted by lotte26 Jul 25th 2007

Yeah, I agree, she killed them because its a war and people die, innocent people die. just like everyday. they were fighting for freedom. they died heroes!!!!!!!!!!! SCORPIUS!! haha i had to laugh at that name it was so funi!!! god who did he marry! Luna? lol... shes the only blondy i can think of that wud let her husband call there kid scorpius :P

Posted by mugglemedic Jul 25th 2007

I am sure that the encyclopedia would round out my set of book nicely....

Posted by AlbusSeverus11 Jul 25th 2007

yes! now we can find out about what happens to everyone, including Luna! ahhh im soo excited

Posted by gas2010 Jul 25th 2007

I think she should have killed Mr W. in book 5 since Mrs. W was worried about it I thought the boggart was a forshadowing in that book but oh well I didnt care much about fred dying after all we still have george who is a carbon copy of him

Posted by fell4snape Jul 25th 2007

Lotte26, I pretty much agree with everything you said! XD

Posted by hpfanforlife Jul 25th 2007

Great interview! To be completely honest, I have to say I'd rather Arthur died than Lupin... CANNOT WAIT for the encyclopedia! It's a nice feeling to be able to look forward once more to a new HP book. :D

Posted by potter_princess07 Jul 25th 2007

gas2010: so its okay if one of the twins dies.. psht.. whatever we have another one... ?? seriously?? wow. fred and george were a team, yes, but they were still two separate people!! having one die and the other live is just horrible. :'[ i was very upset by the loss of fred but its war. and thats what happens. but to just blow it off and say we still got george just seems like an insult.

Posted by alm034 Jul 25th 2007

Hey Mugglenet, now that I know that I'll never be able to stop coming here for HP-related news, can you offer an adult-version of the site similar to the books Bloomsbury does? Maybe make the header look like CNN.com or something so I don't have to click off so fast when someone walks up behind me.

Posted by HPbrownLove1 Jul 25th 2007

thats really cool! im so excited for more harry potter, even though it isnt another book! that doesnt mean im still not crying cuz its finally over =( but she said it might take some time, so im hoping not more than a year. over a year would be pretty harsh =(

Posted by Natata Jul 25th 2007

Oh I can't wait! I'm reading "Deathly Hallows" again! Having more HP stuff to read sounds awesome!

Posted by cool_varzz Jul 25th 2007

She could not bear to kill Arthur Weasley ???? AND SHE COULD BEAR TO KILL FRED ????????????????????????? ..........WTF !!!!!!!......phew I'm devastated......

Posted by 1990jordan Jul 25th 2007

potterinn, the explanation of harry's eyes was in there... Snape has always been protecting harry because of his love for lily, his eyes were snape's incentive, it's also why Snape asked Harry to look at him before he died, so he could see lily's eyes one last time.

Posted by starlightsuprise Jul 25th 2007

i really hope itd be soon and she tell us the fate of all teh character after the war and more details regarding what harry did

Posted by faula_tara Jul 25th 2007

while loosing one of the twins sucked big time(a moment i had tears in my eyes) mrs weasly really showed her back bone she was always so maternal and loving being a mother myself i felt her rage and her line not my daughter girl just made me whoop it up after all the death . i was hoping they would find away to get sirus out of the mirror but the scene where harry is walking with his lost loved ones seemd to clear it up he was really dead. the realization that this was it the last hit me when i picked up my copy of the deathly hallows. accept now i have the encyclopedia to look forward to it will probably take a couple of years before its released but that is ok j.k. has given me and my family something wonderful to share for years to come. as for the whole snape thing i am still not convinced he is so great but it was nice to see he could love for wasnt that what dumbledore said harrys greatest power was? all and all it was a good book would have liked to see a little more of what happened to other carachters in the end o well there is always fan fiction and ty to the authors of that that dont have fred and george doing things with each other that is illeagal in m,ost states sorry about the typos i have a 2 year old on my lap helping me in short thank s j.k. and muggle net for keeping as i feel a child i watch grow like my oldest into a wonderful human being

Posted by Julie666 Jul 25th 2007

Woo hoo! More Harry Potter! Still can't believe she killed my beloved Remus like that, as if it was an afterthought - it was harsh and not good writing in my opinion. At least Mr Weasleys safe, I love him too.

Posted by ninety Jul 25th 2007

I read the interview and it seems like it won't come out for a long time! But I bet when it comes out that there will be a line at midnight of super crazed harry potter fans and I'll Probably be one of them!

Posted by branflakes56 Jul 25th 2007

i bet it was lupin and tonks that died when he got the reprieve....or fred and another character. *tear*

Posted by Arbitrary08 Jul 25th 2007

oh i cant wait! so was it lupin and tonks who died instead of mr weasley? i, not sure about tonks.......but yeah! i am so happy we are going to get an encyclopedia

Posted by Perky_Harry Jul 25th 2007

Yay! A Harry Potter encyclopedia! Now, I've got something to look forward to! ^_^

Posted by neonpink Jul 25th 2007

is the interview going to air again so special people like me can catch it?

Posted by HPBrian Jul 25th 2007

Just as Harry experienced disappointment in feeling that Dumbledore had not told him everything as promised, a number of us have reacted the same. Yet as Dumbledore, I know that Jo will not disappoint in the long-run.

Posted by shevliaskovic Jul 25th 2007

cant wait!!!!

Posted by LethiaMalfoy Jul 25th 2007

can anyone else say MIDNIGHT RELEASE!?!?!?!?!

Posted by jimmy2121 Jul 25th 2007

if you guys listened to JK and read the interview slowly you would have seen that JK said that Arthur W was to die in book 5 not Deathly Hallows. Just wanted to make that point. Thanks

Posted by writergurl013 Jul 25th 2007

That's freaking AWESOME! After reading the epilogue, I was disappointed we didn't get to find out what happened to all the Weasleys, and hagrid, and McGonagall, and if Kingsley remained Minister. So it's not really over, we have something to look forward to again! SPLEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by fvnesscafe Jul 25th 2007

Ooh! An encyclopedia would be fantastic. I would love to find out little tidbits about the other characters and what happened to them after the fall of Voldie. I wonder how long of a break she'll take before she thinks about doing it for real. I wonder if JK is as addicted to her own creation as some of us fans are...

Posted by zussman Jul 25th 2007

I hope she's like Michael Jordan and she just keeps coming back to it. Maybe she'll even do Hanes commercials...

Posted by YouKnowWhoIam Jul 25th 2007

I'm so glad she's planning to write an encyclopedia but she has to do it in a cool form, like fantastic beasts and where to find them and quddich through the ages...maybe a revised version of hogwarts a history or a History of Magic text book?

Posted by severin Jul 25th 2007

to potterin: the significance of Harry having his mother's eyes - that was Snape's motivation in protecting Harry all this time, because of his love for Lily. When he was dying, he wanted to see Lily in Harry's eyes, therefore "look at me"!

Posted by polkadots56 Jul 25th 2007

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!! and thank god she kept arthur... i wouldn't have been able to bear to see Molly's reaction if that happened.

Posted by Matthias Jul 25th 2007

oh my gosh she did well in sparing arthur weasley.... how could she think of it??? you might think fred's death is enough to cope with

Posted by flibbertigibbit Jul 25th 2007

so... we're in for another midnight release and speculation (about little details) and everything? ...omg! i feel like i'm cheating my way out of a loss. it's like... how is this supposed to make us stronger if theyre just like "nevermind, its actullay not the end of harry potter, we were only joking! post potter depression is no more!!" haha, and all of the research that was put into this and guides to help people deal with the end. i'm so ecstatic!

Posted by lemondrop89 Jul 25th 2007

yeah! i'm excited. I really wanted to know the fate of the other characters.

Posted by moony08 Jul 25th 2007

So, were Remus and Tonks the unexpected deaths? Sounds like they were... either way, Mr. Weasley or Lupin, both deaths are heartbreaking seeing as they're both fathers now.

Posted by Kaleygurl Jul 25th 2007

Eek! I can't wait! And Mr. Weasley!! I thought for sure it was Hagrid!

Posted by seventyard Jul 25th 2007

thank god for this story. because, and this may SOUND sarcastic but i swear it isn't, i wasn't exactly sure i'd be able to go on without knowing what eventually becomes of, say, seamus. or flitwick. or harry, for that matter, aside from getting hitched having children...

Posted by Agnes Jul 25th 2007

xD I was hoping she would write an encyclopedia! I'm really happy about this! I want to know what happened to everyone, the questions that Jo didn't answer, fun details, backgrounds.. Everything! *does happy dance* 'Course it's going to take a while before it comes out, but untill then we have 7 books to re-read, 5 films (and then maybe even 6!) to re-watch and Mugglenet to keep us (dedicated Harry Potter fans) busy! xD

Posted by JKrowlingismyIDLE Jul 25th 2007

I certainly hope that she writes an encyclopedia. Since i've finished DH I have felt so depressed and empty. It's sad. And I don't want to reread it because I want to save it up for something. Wow if she writes one I would be so excited. I know she won't be planning on doing it soon, but it's a good thought knowing that Harry Potter isn't exactly over. And I am glad Arthur stayed alive, it would have been a hard loss

Posted by wildnose94 Jul 25th 2007

i thought george was going to die.... just as well, another book on harry potter! i can't wait!

Posted by im_a_weasley Jul 25th 2007

YYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY YYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope she does!! that would be so freakin AMAZING!!! Ok so i am like freaking out now! WOW WOW WOW I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by SnapeLove Jul 25th 2007

YESSSS That's so awesome! All the little tidbits that had to get cut? I can't wait for the day she does that! I need all the details!

Posted by i_had_fever_fudge_42 Jul 25th 2007

yay! i submitted this news!!! i feel special!

Posted by crappidoo Jul 25th 2007

can't wait for the encyclopedia!!! (: another book to add to my collection. i think the father that died in book 7 instead of mr weasley would probably be remus lupin. i'm still sad that both tonks and lupin died in DH. sigh ): R.I.P both of you.

Posted by im_a_weasley Jul 25th 2007

thank you for submitting it!!! this just made my day!!

Posted by sectumsempra99 Jul 25th 2007
