Do you think one of the reasons that Harry survived when Voldemort 'killed' him in the forest was because he was already the master of death. Think about it. I mean to unite the items didnt mean to get them in a phyical closeness to each other, but to be the owner of them. He was the owner of the cloak and the stone, and the wand had his alligence, making him its "owner". Plus Dumbley said something about "to be the real master of death, you had to not be afriad of dying" or something to that affect. And Harry wasnt as we can clearly see.
