JKR awarded at South Bank Show awards
Jo Rowling has been awarded with an outstanding achievement prize at the UK's The South Bank Show awards which recognize British achievement in music, theatre, television and the arts. The author mentioned that finishing Harry Potter "has been the worst break-up of my life - far worse than splitting up with any man. But it has also been wonderful to stop and draw breath and think, 'My God, look what's happened with an idea I had 17 years ago on a train'."
The awards will be broadcast on 3 February on ITV1 at 2240 GMT.
Check out some pics of Jo, looking wonderful, at the award ceremony at Getty.
UPDATE: Sky News video interview with Jo here and her acceptance speech here.

well done jo!!
We're all proud of you! *cheers*
Yippie for Jo! Woohoo top 5!
oooo! cool
awww...that quote totally warms my heart! go jo!
Jo is so awesome! It is unbelievable that an entire universe has been brought about by that idea on the train. Hmm, if she still so sad about HP ending, she should just get working on that encyclopedia...
Congratulitions! She deserves it all. And she looks as good as always
Yay! Go Jo!
That is amazing news! Congrads to Mrs. JK Rowling for her award! She's definitely one inspiring woman who deserves recognition for her achievements! Bravo!
Yay! She deserves this award. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! !!
Its great that Jo won this award! But my only complaint is that it is being shown in ITV, which means that us Americans won't be able to see it, just like the documentary...
HA! she's SO going to win that award. she's the most awesome author in the world!
Good job J.K!!! Ur soooo gonna win it! Theres nobody thats better than you! **--- Luna ---**
I was thinking about how Americans can't see all of these amazing programs, and I had the best- the b-e-s-t- idea: a MuggleNet TV station!
omg i love that idea of a mugglenet tv station.....good job jo
yay!
HOORAY FOR JO!!!!! Congratulations!! You truly deserve it!!
Congratulations Jo!!!
That is great!! Congrats J.K. I can't believe it has been that long since Harry Potter was thought up.
That's awesome... I love that Jo's getting all of these awards.
Cool.
YAY! Jo totally deserves it! :)
yeah, she does deserve it, she's put a lot of years into these books and harry, congratulations J.K.R.!
Awesome!! She still sad about finishing the books. She just needs to write something, like that encyclopedia.
Congrats Jo! Her outfit is very cute; she looks great. You can still see it in her eyes that she is still sad, but you can you blame her? I'm still mourning over the ending of Harry Potter and I'm not sure I'll ever truly stop. I'm a bit scared that the encyclopedia will be published in ten years. I'll be, probably, married and with children by then!
Awwwww. I love jkr..... no really? :P
hooray! congratulations! *muggleTV*!!! =D
yea jo! awesome quote, i think we are all a little heartbroken. BRILLIANT IDEA NAGINI ABOUT A MUGGLENET TV STATION!!!! :)
I do not think Jo is the only one who is sad, that only think I hope the encyclopedia is made soon and have more information about the characther in the book.
Word cannot express how much i love JKR. I love her so much ohmygod she is amazing
Congratulations Jo! But, I'm not too sure whether I like your outfit ;l
saying good bye to harry potter wasn't only hard for Jo I think it was hard for all of us .for me it was more then saying good bye to a book, it was saying good bye to what I lived with and what I loved (and will always love)for five years and even though I know it's over I will never be able to say a true good bye to it and I would like to thank the person that made it all happen and tell her that she has made a huge difference in my life with her amazing books and congratulate her for the awards that she has gotten because she deserves it all
I like the grammar for the title. "Award" is a transitive verb...JK awarded WHAT? It's understood, but grammatically it is not the best.
Lots of vids-GOOD
Go Jo!!! We all
go Jo! aw she got choked up... WE LOVE YOU JO! I can't see the interview video though... don't have the right programme. =( too bad.
Good go Jo!!!!!! : )
Cool stuff..................
Jo's my idol. I hope to be as good as author as she is. though i probably wont.
Grats Jo.
And after 17 years, she is still so modest. You have got to love Jo. :)
