'Wyrd Sisters' to compensate WB
Last November we reported that Winnipeg musical group, Wyrd Sisters, sued Warner Bros. and attempted to have GOF banned from distribution across Canada because they believed a band with a similar name, The Weird Sisters, featured in the movie; the name of the band was never actually mentioned in the flick. They lost their case and have now been ordered to reimburse WB's $140k legal fees.

Thanks to HPANA for the tip!

Posted by LaurenB Jul 1st 2006

No surprises there.

Posted by Shadowswordth Jul 1st 2006

Yeah lol Lauren!

Posted by Phoenix_Valor Jul 1st 2006

Sheesh people. They might as well have sued JKR for comming up with the name. *eyeroll* It's not even spelled the same. It's sad when people come up with stuff so that they can sue and make money. It reminds me of that women who sued JK Rowling for 'stealing her ideas'. If you want money that badly, get a job, and sell stuff on ebay.

Posted by GetYourOwnBox Jul 1st 2006

Oh yeah I remember those people.

Posted by jerod Jul 1st 2006

that's the irony of life, they tried for months to get paid by WB now it's them that have to pay WB good,it will teach others not to go after money by doing anything

Posted by ILLestQuill Jul 1st 2006

Yah thats stupid that they tried to sue...I knew they would lose they probaly dont even have the money.

Posted by Weazley_is_MY_King Jul 1st 2006

Haha! I probably shouldn't laugh, cuz my dad's frum winnipeg, but that's okay! Lol, they lost! That's awesome. Hehe, it's canada day! Yay 4 Canada!

Posted by Magic_and_Castles Jul 1st 2006

lol, the fools :P

Posted by VGwritesalot Jul 1st 2006

LMAO! Looks like someone was just trying to get money out of WB. Suckers. They get what they deserve, methinks.

Posted by The_Maltese_Fan Jul 1st 2006

The Wyrd Sisters should never had tried to sue WB. After all, it Jo that came up with the name. So, take that Wyrd Sisters, you desevre it!

Posted by Vail329 Jul 1st 2006

sewing is no good.

Posted by boo Jul 1st 2006

hmm.. well that's queerish.. i mean, yeah, the name wasnt even mentioned.. is it even pronounced the same? silly manitobans.. hehh my cousins live there. i live in ontario! yay!! happy canada day.. and have fun paying off those fees, unknown canadian band. billy talent pwns you.

Posted by dracodragon Jul 1st 2006

sounds to me that the Wyrd Sisters were just trying to make some money off of the Harry Potter phenomenon. Shame on them.

Posted by welkinhawk Jul 1st 2006

haha, i've seen the wyrd sisters before cos i'm from the peg ... all this sueing and counter sueing is quite stupid ... the wyrd and wierd sisters are completely dissimilar despite theirs names and the WB certainly doesn't need to fiscally destroy and independant folk act ... oh and happy canada day.

Posted by leila Jul 1st 2006

ahahaha, suckers. well they got their publicity now, didn't they? not that i'll go listen to them or anything.

Posted by deirdrexgrint Jul 1st 2006

aw that sucks for them i mean i know they shouldn't have sued WB but id also hate to lose $140,000

Posted by uknowho Jul 1st 2006

how stupid. i thought it was obvious that jkr got the name "weird sisters" from the three witches in macbeth. anyways, im glad they lost.

Posted by loveslupin Jul 1st 2006

HAHA!! Serves them right!

Posted by boo Jul 1st 2006

oh, and simple plan, too. and social code.. and city and colour. and the totally unknown bands that are still better than you, lucid twist and US.. they all pwn you, wyrd sisters. canada is totally cool. happy canada day and harry potter is awesomeish.

Posted by Kadaj Jul 1st 2006

What a bunch of idiots. They sould have done some research before going off to sue a huge company like WB. Lame!

Posted by marsisbrighttonight Jul 1st 2006

they deserved it! those people who always need something to complain about...they might as well sue shakespeare...

Posted by Deadsy Jul 1st 2006

LOL

Posted by kimz Jul 1st 2006

Yeah those people are dumbos. But stupid WB doesn't need any more money and now those suckers are going to be brrroke.

Posted by jazzmaze24 Jul 1st 2006

Ha ha, where the crap is a small-time band gonna get that kind of money?!

Posted by DeVotchKa Jul 1st 2006

hahaha pwnd.

Posted by fire_whiskey Jul 1st 2006

hahaha! unfortunately, thats a stupid canadian music group! but simple polan is amazing! but seriously, dose WB even need the money? oh well i guess they have publicity now!

Posted by _Hermione_ Jul 1st 2006

Some people would do anything even take something that is a virtually pointless and minute case to court to lay hands on a pile of money. All for the best! xox Hermione**

Posted by charmed_heart25 Jul 1st 2006

Arrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Im soo mad at those ppl!! The names arent even spelled the same! See, thats JKR's 'flair'. She takes names from other sources and tweaks them up a bit (Sellotape/Spellotape, remmember?). I don't think its illegal. HAHAHAHHAH! Now THEY have to pay. They DESERVE it. 'Already bereft of funds and appealing to fans for donations to pay for its lawsuit' Lol. It kinda makes me sad that they have no money to pay for it, but suing for $40 million?? They D-E-S-E-R-V-E it!

Posted by Samantha_Weasley Jul 1st 2006

ha ha ha haha.

Posted by Samantha_Weasley Jul 1st 2006

ha ha ha haha.

Posted by Mrs_Finnegan Jul 1st 2006

Thats pretty funny I'm glad they lost...and now they have to play WB legal fees.

Posted by cowscantquack Jul 1st 2006

that sucks!!!

Posted by CedricLover125 Jul 1st 2006

I remember those people. That sucks. I bet that they came up woth their band a long time after the BOOK came out. The book came out many years ago. How come they didn't complain then?

Posted by elphaba_defying_gravity Jul 1st 2006

serves them right. trying to take advantage of harry potter like that. i agree with CedricLover125. they probably just created the band after HP came out and changed the spelling a little and then decided to sue. well HA. that backfired.

Posted by TaylorM Jul 1st 2006

The band should just cool down for a canadian celebration today on Canada day.

Posted by nishita Jul 1st 2006

serves them rite i guess

Posted by nishita Jul 1st 2006

serves them rite i guess

Posted by gryffindor_lion Jul 1st 2006

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!

Posted by caitlyn62442 Jul 1st 2006

And of course they just coudn't settle for the $50,000 dollars WB offered them to share the name! If they weren't dead broke before, they definitely are now.

Posted by veelagirl Jul 1st 2006

If they had watched the movie more closely, maybe they could have figured out that they MIGHT not win the case. Then they would be 50,000 dollars richer instead of 140,000 dollar poorer. Gee, what a difference paying attention makes.

Posted by Lynn Jul 1st 2006

I just have one thing to say: HAHAHA! loooosers.

Posted by Nameless Jul 1st 2006

The book probably came out before they even THOUGHT ABOUT starting a band! They need to stop flattering themselves. Like JKR would take the time to look for a not-so-sucessful Canadian band and name the band in her books after it? I don't think so.

Posted by bohemian_angel Jul 1st 2006

Well now, how about that. Honestly, the way some people treat the Harry Potter phenominon...

Posted by scurvy_cur Jul 1st 2006

well what a surprise! how on earth can you claim HP ripped you off on something JKR wrote more than 6 yrs ago and that you both took from Shakespeare!?!

Posted by awnuhbananuh Jul 1st 2006

i laughed really hard at this. :)

Posted by kaorca Jul 1st 2006

well, if they would have been smart, like come on, did they really think the court would be in favor of a unknown music group over a multi-million company like WB ?? Gees, did someone forget to take their nappies??

Posted by zachattack Jul 1st 2006

um...werid whats that all about?..........

Posted by lizzybennet Jul 1st 2006

YAY GO WB!!!!!! Serves them right for suing you!

Remember Cedric. Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.
