Smaller Half-Blood Prince casting roles revealed
Smaller Half-Blood Prince casting roles revealed Casting Call Pro UK has several actors and actresses listed for roles in Half-Blood Prince, and one of them may suggest how the film opens up.

Teresa Mahoney, pictured left, has been cast as "Sofie" in "Boardroom - Opening Scene". This leads us to believe that Half-Blood Prince's opening may stay true to the book.

Other casting includes a Slytherin Student, a Death Eater, and a Slughorn Ball Graduate. Thanks to Ryan for the tip!

Good--the more scenes kept from the book, the better.

Posted by SmoothieKing33 May 8th 2008

At least SOMETHING will stay tied to the book. Yates and Heyman: you fail.

Posted by KristiofSlytherin May 8th 2008

I can only recall Spinners End as the opening of the book...can someone remind me what this "boardroom" scene is again?

Posted by sticky May 8th 2008

i don't understand....umm this may sound stupid and i swear i AM a die hard potter fan and have been since i was eight but....ummm sofie??? and....what Boardroom opening sequence??? am i misaing something here?????

Posted by Shaun05 May 8th 2008

I believe. they will open with the destruction of the bridge (Brockbale Bridge?) and perhaps this woman will be in a meeting in a building on the theames and then see the bridge destroyed. My ideas.

Posted by Campusanis May 8th 2008

The first chapter was "The other minister", one of my favourite chapters, and I'd love to see it. But I don't remember anyone except the ministers there.

Posted by omidkorat May 8th 2008

where is Boardroom?!

Posted by angelina_johnson92 May 8th 2008

Who freaking cares about the little roles in the film when they still need to cast the Gaunts. Like, I'm glad they casted exta people, but this isn't very important. I hate how Yates thinks it's important to have the death eaters at the Borrow when he hasn't said anyhting about the Gaunts! This is a key part in DH, because of Marvolo's ring, which is a hallow. Thats why its called Harry Potter and the Deathley HALLOWS! I'm sorry if i'm being dissrespectful, but I know a lot lof people agree with me. Omg, i'm starting to feel like angsty Harry. Hahaha.

Posted by sootyface May 8th 2008

I thought the 'boardroom' would be the name for the Prime Minister's office, because that's the only thing I think of, but then again Shaun05 could be right - we know they were filming on the bridge, and that they haven't cast Scrimgeour or the Prime Minister yet. Fair play; trying to describe events without too much speaking is a sensible thing to do when transitioning from page to screen. H.

Posted by MagicMaker222 May 8th 2008

I think they should start with the muggle prime minister...just like it does in the book! If they would hurry up and cast someone for Scrimgeour!

Posted by justin071602 May 8th 2008

The only thing I can think of for her is the picture in the "other ministers" office announcing the arrival of the magic prime minister. I think the picture was a female.

Posted by kiff May 8th 2008

The Boardroom is the nickname for The UK Prime Minister's office at 10 Downing Street London where the UK Prime MInister is based. It is the equivalent of The Oval Office in the White House, for the U.S. I guess the scene may be amended from the book to fir with cinema styles and thus I expect Sophie will turn out to be the Prime Minister's personal secretary. This is good as I feared they would not include Chapter One about the UK Prime Minister being visited by The Minister for Magic, and so this is good news if true, as it is an excellent and amusing scene...

Posted by justin071602 May 8th 2008

I also think they had posted kingsley as the english prime ministers secretary for protective purposes.

Posted by sootyface May 8th 2008

"...the froglike little man wearing a long silver wig who was depicted in a small and dirty oil-painting in the far corner of the room." Nope, a man. I don't think there's any hope for the muggle prime minister, but I hope they cast Scrimgeour! It's so great when Harry tells him where to go. lol...H.

Posted by adriennecray May 8th 2008

There was no Sofie!!! whyyyy

Posted by warlocksandmuggwumps May 8th 2008

um... excuse me? this is not the opening scene of the half-blood prince... where the heck did this come from? it opens with the new minister and spinners end and if they mean the place where Tom Riddle grew up... what the heck? and who the heck is Sofie? wth is going on here???

Posted by the_patronus_seeker May 8th 2008

I hope that the openining stays true to the book because IT IS THE BEGINNING! They cant possibly riun it as much as Order but I think they are trying to stay as close as possible to the books. Hey, if that means adding and deleting then so be it. [Im not trying to sound like I approve of deleting and adding but they DO take it into consideration and not just half-arsed (although Order did look like that)]

Posted by warlocksandmuggwumps May 8th 2008

oh... i just realized.. sorry.. my mistake... i'm glad they are keeping the scene in! whoo!!!

Posted by member_of_SPEW May 8th 2008

ok, this sounds good. I bet you're right, kiff. - but they haven't announced a prime minister yet, have they?

Posted by kiff May 8th 2008

Half Blood Prince opens with a scene in the Muggle Prime Minister's Office - where The Muggle Prime Minister in the UK meets The Minister for Magic for the UK - so that is correct if they are following the book. Spinner's End is the second chapter. The book opens in the Prime Minister's Office. Sophie is obviously an invented secretary like Nigel is an invented boy at Hogwarts. They often invent extra characters for the films. It is no big deal. It's the only boardroom in the book..

Posted by Dragon_queen4ever May 8th 2008

Roflmao@ all you peoplewho are complaining. Beggars cant be choosers. Shes probably like Nigel(the dude in GOF and OOTP) or something...

Posted by Kamion May 8th 2008

well, thank you, more NON-news from Warners, shall we play a game called: "Did I Spot.......?" RULES: remember when the casting of such and so actor was made public and in which scene for how many seconds that actor is recognisable.

Posted by kiff May 8th 2008

I enjoy these bits of news about casting. It is good fun working out what it means. It's not non news - it's real news! Do not forget that additional scenes and characters are agreed with JKR in advance. David Yates said he always consults her about changes and additions. Also, it said on the radio here that she had been involved in advising them on the new scene added to Film 6 where the Burrow is attacked by Death Eaters (not the Book 7 attack but the extra new one added to 6) - she said it was a good idea and wished she'd thought of it..

Posted by Dragon_queen4ever May 8th 2008

@kiff : thank you! people should really stop bashing with out analyzing. JKR is an AMAZING author, but shes not perfect. ever seen planet of the apes? (not the tim burton one). It had this great twist that wasn't in the book, but the author later stated he had wished he had thought of that.

Posted by Dragon_queen4ever May 8th 2008

Humm, I'm bored, someone say something controversial.

Posted by peroxwhy_gen May 8th 2008

I would assume she's a secretary for The Other Minister. Got to say though, this is the only thing that sounds remotely similar to the book that I've seen so far.

Posted by filipinosrock24 May 8th 2008

She looks awfully familiar. I just don't remember where i've seen her before...

Posted by djaccio May 8th 2008

remember in the hbp teasers on the ootp dvd? you could see a green topped desk at one point. i had faith that this amazing seen would make the cut after seeing that.

Posted by Rose37 May 8th 2008

Finally a movie starting out right. Let us just hope that the movie stays true to the book thought the whole thing. (Fingers and toes all crossed!!!)

Posted by justin071602 May 8th 2008

Posted by Harry1Potter1Loony May 8th 2008

Guys lets not judge now before the teaser trailer and before the movie comes out!! Who knows maybe the movie will turn out faithful to the book except for the Gaunts and stuff like that!! The thing is Yates will have to put on a good very good show so that he can gain the fans trust for movie 7 right? I mean he will have to do a very good job on HBP so that we fans could trust him on 7 or else its bye bye Harry from the 6th movie!!:D

Posted by Harry1Potter1Loony May 8th 2008

People is Harry Potter losing its magic?:S

Posted by Harry1Potter1Loony May 8th 2008

Plz God let this movie be as excellent as i hope it will be!! Everybody pray with me!!:D

Posted by hpninjaskills May 8th 2008

Thanks Kiff ! :) That really cleared up a lot . =) Hm, I`m glad that the movie's staying true to the books. I`m thinking HBP will be the best one yet. :)

Posted by sweetlilthing May 8th 2008

This makes me feel a lot better after reading about the christmas fight scene. Can't wait till tomorrow! (teaser trailer)

Posted by chidarkcy May 8th 2008

the slytherin student and slughorn ball graduate are very very cute.. and... about sofie.. well... maybe now that the DH are going to be in 2 parts they are putting more details in HBP...

Posted by sweetlilthing May 8th 2008

oh, and have crabbe, goyle and seamus been confirmed? :S

Posted by alexxx May 8th 2008

the slytherin student and the ball graduate are like really cute lmao

Posted by hpintwense06 May 8th 2008

Sweet. This is reallllly good news. I am so glad that they are starting off with "The Other Minister" (or at least it sounds like it...? ha, I hope so!) I'm glad they are putting in the bridge collapse, too. Oh, and Quidditch! As much of the book that they can get in the movie, the better.

Posted by GRYFFIN21 May 8th 2008

I think taht this time around that the people at Warner Bros are going to give us fans a lenghthy movie,I would say of aleast almost 3 hours here's hoping for more but I think that they are gonna want to satisfy us with a good long movie for these two reasons.Reason 1 OOTP was short,And 2 we have to wait exactly 2 years for DH Part1.So I think that we will e getting a movie in the length of COS or maybe a bit longer. So I just wanna say calm down fans please and lets give Warner Bros and Yates a shot and who knows we might be satified.Another thing please try not to believe in everything you read about the movie as to what got in and what got left out until it can be confirmed from WB themselves. As always,Harry Potter fans are the the best thing to be so lets keep it that way shall we.Thank You.

: )

Posted by Mrspadfoot_007 May 8th 2008

I seriously can't remember a scene with a sophie in it! They say that its true to the book, but adding in small parts that nobody knows what its about, and then leave out the gaunts and major plots and /or characters thats just not smart! I just can't wait to see the full trailer!

Posted by bongahead May 8th 2008

What about Bill? Fleur? Charlie? The Gaunts? Scrimgeour? It's nice to have all these little detail characters, but there are more important characters who are necessary to the story and ESPECIALLY TO BOOK 7, they should be added instead of these! And I am sure there was never a character in the Harry Potter books called "Sofie". They're making up their entire new story. I wonder if they will cast the Prime Minister himself, if they're doing a "Boardroom" scene? That would be more important. Well, anyway, it won't matter much, no matter what they do I'll always love the books way much better than the films. The OOTP film wasn't that good. COS was maybe the best of the films, and also the longest.

Posted by honeydukes0209 May 8th 2008

Um...I really don't remember a Sophy! Does anybody else?

Posted by phoenix_knight May 8th 2008

THANK YOU KIFF! YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! JK Rowling DID mention about she wishes she added the Burrow attack scene, i tried telling everyone here, but they just wouldn't listen, just the typical IGNORANT HP Hardcore Purist fans, which i sooo HATE with a Passion! lol, Anyway, i can't wait for the Trailer! God, this is like the longest time we had to wait for ANY HP trailer that comes on November... I was expecting it to come like last month in April...

Posted by Wand May 8th 2008

she looks a bit like meredith grey

Posted by trueligth May 8th 2008

Maybe I am mistaken, but the first chapter is the muggle minister and I do not remember any boardroom. I hope is my mistake. Please let'se more real to the books in the series if you please.

Posted by i_loverz_HP May 8th 2008

stay true to the book??? impossible!

Posted by Dragon_queen4ever May 8th 2008

STOP COMPLAINING!!! JUST BE HAPPY THEY'RE KEEPIN THE SCENE!

Posted by thatpotterboy May 8th 2008

Ouch, the bashing hurts. The staff are doing what they are supposed to be doing; giving updates and news regarding anything related to Harry Potter, or J.K. Rowling. So how about you all stop bashing and start figuring out what's related to the article. Personally, I don't remember a "Sophie," nor a boardroom scene at the beginning of HBP. Andrew, if you could shed a little more light, I think it would help clear things up. :)
